I am writing to share a concern regarding my recent visit in the past two weeks with youth smiles…read moreon 09.19.25 - for my 8 year old son. While I appreciate the easy of scheduling and initial check-in progress. encountered a situation that I believe warrants reflection and training, if applicable. Upon being called for his appointment, I was informed by staff when time for my child to go back for visit at location - that parents are not permitted to accompany children back due to HIPAA. As a healthcare professional with training in ethics and administration, nursing - I respectfully questions this policy to understand and asked for further elaboration. which I was only told that staff member was there for 5 months and it has been this way - asking for other office staff to validate and not providing a reason that I could understand. HIPAA protects patient privacy but does not prohibit parental presence for minors - I just want to make sure my rights and my Childs rights were not violated. Or any parents rights that are advised this without further reasoning to support During the visit my child ran away from staff member, three times before I went back there to assist with getting him - to step in and to de-escalate. As a veteran - I have also worked in psych and feel that with information and even some kids are comfortable with parents- this situation could have been prevented I appreciate other staff stepping in that were understanding and supportive during the process. I shared this with other offices as my child has abscess unsure if this also contributed to behavior and while speaking to other locations - when asking if I could go back with my child -not during treatment but for cleaning and consultation - they were concerned and I shared Youth smiles advised due to HIPAA I could not -when my child only had X-rays, no cleaning as staff wanted him to follow-up with treatment and they helped me complete school forms, I am concerned has changed for HIPAA. My concern is not just about the incident but the broader implications for inclusion, accessibility, emotional safety. If there is formal policy, should be clearly communicated to families, ideally in writing or on your website -that is not mentioned. If exceptions are made for children with disabilities , staff should be trained to ask about accommodations with compassion not judgement. I hope this feedback can be used as a training opportunity to ensure that all children-regardless of diagnosis or background- are treated with dignity and that parents are supported in advocating for their care.

Well then Atleast have the courtesy to check if it's hurting me or stop in between and allow me to rinse. The dentist shared his plan to obtain the xrays that weren't possible with a fussy toddler. He updated us with all the work completed under sedation. A follow up appointment was already scheduled. The anesthesiogist went above and beyond to describe his plan for an amnesia event. No pain and no memory of being poked and prodded. Two of the three adults accompanying the toddler provide direct patient care. After the procedure, he described possible bruising from cardiac monitor pads, nasal cannula, and IV site. By proactively identifying and explaining comforted the third adult. What to expect for a toddler waking up from anesthesia in the next 12 hours helped set us up for success. The gaming room with vintage games (Pacman) were a hit with the adults. What caught my attention was a large number of plugs in the waiting room. Each of the plugs had covers protecting little ones from injury. After arriving home with our "dizzy" toddler, the office called to check in to make sure everything was going as expected. Highly recommend this location for pediatric sedation dentistry.

I've been wronged by dentists before so I've developed some anxiety around dental procedures. However, Dr. Leahy was very calm in addressing all of my worries. It also helps that he has two extremely gentle dogs in the practice. Whenever I started to panic, I would look down and see one of the dogs sleeping by my chair. That surprisingly put me at ease. He also fixed issues that three dentists I've had in the past were unable to fix. And he did it in one appointment! Extremely competent dentist! Again, just an incredibly nice person and, despite his calm demeanor, he keeps on schedule very well. I've never had to wait long for my appointment.

This is personal preference, but I expect my dental care team to care about their dental health and it was surprising to hear about a chronic smoking habit. I had another hygienist today who I suspect isn't a regular based on her unfamiliarity with the office, and who gave me the longest cleaning I've ever experienced. On the topic of x-rays, the first set didn't save on my first visit and I had to do them twice, and most recently they weren't able to be taken. I did get a pretty clear description of their teeth whitening service which I'm excited to try, and for the dog lovers out there, there's usually a friendly giant roaming the office!
