I love this place! I live out of state but love coming here. It is such a cool concept. This time I brought my 9 yo grandson and he could not get enough of the place. I was ready to leave after a half hour or so and he wanted to continue to look around. With his own money, he bought $9.50 worth of origami paper, beach glass, idk what else, and rounded up at the cash register! I love looking through the fabric scraps for upcycling. Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse is a great resource. It's wonderful for picking up small quantities of items like zip ties (I needed a couple for attaching a basket to a child's bike, I didn't need a package of 12 from a hardware store). There are loads of craft, sewing, and stationary supplies. My one downer has been the sewing thread, which looked ok but was too old and weak to use in my machine. Best to check fiber products before buying. read more

I had the wonderful opportunity to tour this place tonight. I had never been before and it was incredibly interesting. Everything in the center is donated. No matter how many times you walk through you will always find different things. There is a section that is fabric, yarn, knitting needles, and other goodies related to sewing. There is a section of paper and cards. There is a section of vintage items that includes old cameras, old photographs, and other odds and ends. There is a bulk section that has folders, straws, wrapping paper, plastic containers of all shapes, and a lot of other items to check out. My favorite space was the enormous vintage card catalog that held lots of tiny things in each drawer. There was a drawer of bells, a drawer of bubbles, a drawer of temp tattoos, a drawer of game pieces, the list goes on and on. I had so much fun looking through all of the drawers. I love how everything is organized and the range of items they have. The staff is fantastic! I love how the center not only offers classes there but also goes out into the community to do classes. I didn't walk out empty handed. I bought a few things to paint with 4 little girls that I get to hang out with on occasion and then I bought their family a gift certificate. That's right! A gift certificate. Now that family can go in and find some treasures. It's a great place for teachers of any kind to shop or homeschoolers. Or if you have donations this is a great place to donate to. Just go and check it out. You will be glad you did. read more

Being connected to Construction Junction, it's a great place to stop and check out after searching for some great home needs. They have everything here from buttons, to old photos, to baskets, to old notebooks, to fabric, and pieces of trophies. Honestly anything you can imagine is here. My last creative art project required a stop at Construction Junction for tiles and here for maps. Made some pretty sweet DIY coasters for my home using maps from places I love in the states or places that I have visited. Really unique project and the cost was INCREDIBLY low because of their love for recycling unwanted supplies. Have a lot of extra art supplies laying around that you don't know what to do with? The Pittsburgh Center for Reuse is sooooo awesome! Seriously, you can find anything here. You could probably find all the pieces you'd need to make anything, maybe even a submarine! I just love the wide range, variety and uniqueness to the items. It's such a great time just walking through the shop and seeing what you can find to walk away with...I may have taken home a cardboard cut out of The 10th Doctor, David Tennet...so, literally you can find anything. If you have a project you're working on and you're like, "This is missing something..." Walk through here and you will inevitably find it. The staff is amazing and does so much to support their community. They take in and process massive amounts of donations and they never give up on something's potential. The crafters dream! I went in with no expectations and came out with some items I've been looking for forever! I was able to find a full roll (20 yards!) of vintage belt backing for $7. I also got two covetable belt buckle kits still in their packaging for $1.50 total and hooks and eyes for 50 cents. Not everything was super cheap - but the variety was pretty crazy. Definitely a place to go without expectations and just be happy at the weird stuff you find! read more

I love this place! It's a crafter's paradise because it's a treasure trove of all the junky things you wished you would've held onto when you're feeling creative. There's a little bit of everything, from old photo slides, trophies, typewriters, picture frames, fabric and endless odds and ends. I could spend hours digging around in drawers given the opportunity. I came back here to get a few trophies recently because I volunteered to make a few awards for my amateur sports league. I mixed and matched a bunch and created my own creations. For $1 each, I didn't really have anything to lose. Staff are really friendly and helpful too. My advice? Do a walk through of the place and put it in the back of your mind. Come back when you think of ways to reuse all the cool stuff they have! read more

Creative Reuse is a great addition to the Pittsburgh area. I love seeing places like this pop up. It used to be in Construction Junction but has recently branched out on it's own. (It is still right around the corner in the same building.) I believe it is totally run on volunteer hours. I love going here for random art supplies and making art work with recycled things. PCCR has been a great collaborator with our project. I attended a workshop on how to repurpose tote bags into new items. I was thrilled at how professional the staff were - the artist who led the workshop put a lot of time & energy into creating sample items AND developing a handout that we can use in the future. The attendees enjoyed the workshop, spent a lot of time exploring the store (and buying things) and we ended up with a great creative experience. PCCR is a tremendous asset. Some of our out of state donors are planning to come to Pgh just to visit the store and others send donations via mail. The staff are professional, flexible and very supportive of our collaboration. I enjoy walking into the store and it really does inspire me to try my hand at something new. I'm so pleased Pittsburgh has this resource. read more

Creative Reuse is a mecca for those who love sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, or any other method of creating something beautiful out of a shapeless pile of materials. I've decorated my house and made clothing using their 99-cent fabric swatches, and there are pieces of art from their $5 section on my walls. I even fashioned my boyfriend a gladiator costume for Halloween entirely out of leather scarps and buckles from their bulk bins and 99-cent linen from their fabric section. It cost about $15 max, which is incredible since we budgeted about $50 for the same materials from Jo-Ann Fabrics! I admire the commitment to reusing and recycling evidenced by this establishment, and I look forward to supporting them for years to come. P.S. Very impressed with "Constructive junction". They have a ton of interesting art supply materials that feel like they have been carefully selected even in their randomness. (I.e. Old trophies, glass blocks of varying size, sketch books, photo albums, old but good pens, the list goes on. It's in a huge space with friendly, helpful art supply experts. If you are looking for a unique gift or something for a craft project this is the place to go. Located right next store to Construction Junction with plenty of street parking in a huge warehouse. They take donations of your old craft supplies including frames, old candles, trophies, gift wrapping, vases and more. These items are then sold for very reasonable prices. I bought a few greeting cards for 25 cents and a small stuffed bunny for an Easter gift that was 75 cents. The staff that work there including some volunteers are so helpful and nice. I highly recommend a visit when you have some time to spend browsing everything this place offers. read more

I want to be in love with this place, but I'm not. I live by DIY and always have a project going on. PCCR always has great stuff and you could spend a lot of time browsing and come out with supplies for projects you never knew you wanted to do. But sadly the staff and workshops can be hit or miss. I'm by no means expecting customers to be treated like queens when they're there.. Just as a decent human beings. I've seen the staff be pretty rude to people (and myself), mainly during the disorganized workshops I've been to. The staff and workshops have steered me away from going more often and volunteering at PCCR, but I do go and check out the goods every once in a while and hope a friendly person is working. read more

I really like Creative Reuse- I always give them too much of my money when I go there. They've got tons of supplies for crafting and making, and it's lovely to be able to find odd fabric, yarn, tatting shuttles, and crafting stuff in the same place as odd old blueprints, excess medical accessories, cut up bike inner tubes, laminate samples, toy goats, and tons more oddball items. I wish it was easier to find things, that the layout didn't change frequently, and that the workshops were for higher-level skills, but as it is I'm still a huge fan. read more

This place has a lot of odd things in it - doll parts, miscellaneous glass and wood, lots of paper ephemera and some fabric/ribbons. I am involved with a holiday program that gives gifts at the end of the year and I picked up a paper grocery sack full of partially used gift wrapping ribbon spools for $9. It takes a while to sort through the items you don't want to get to the items you do but, it was worth it for me. They have a small section of finished goods for sale that were made by artists who used things from this place. I wish that section was bigger - I would like to support local artists. read more

This place is the best! I love wandering through the store when I have a few hours to spare. I rarely get anything, but I love to see what they have. You can find anything--empty pens, piano hammers, projectors, typewriters, sine wave generators. The volunteers are extremely friendly, and the ideology of the store is great. I'm so lucky to have been introduced to it my first week in Pittsburgh; there are people who've lived in the area for years and can't believe they've never seen it. This is one of those places that is great in theory for me. I love the idea of having a place that allows you to reuse scraps or old craft supplies. I've donated bagfuls of fat quarters and tubes of sequins and so forth here. However, I've never purchased anything. I'm really not the kind of person that hoards craft supplies, just waiting for a rainy day (hence, all of my donations) and you can't really shop here with a list like you would a traditional craft supply store. THIS PLACE IS SO COOL! Thrift store meets vintage. I lovingly call it the "junk store". It has everything you could every own or need. I went there for "colorful stuff" to fill an inflatable sculpture with and this place had just what i needed. I also got 6 pairs of earrings because they're fun and quirky and only $2 ! They have a really nice fabric selection. When you buy in bulk you can fill a bag with whatever you want from that section so i got a ton of pens-- including microns! read more

Was at Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse just yesterday, and they had a working sewing machine that sells for $130 at Target for just $65. Great deal! I received excellent customer service and was (as usual) astounded and overwhelmed by all the cool stuff they have to CREATE with.
