If I could rate a zero star review, I would. As others have said, the owner working behind is an over the top rude, condescending and arrogant man that has no business dealing with the public. My wife, daughter and I walked in to look at the selections offered. As I was walking around the store, I used the bathroom in the rear of the store. There is a sign identifying the bathroom and nothing that states it is not for customer use. i continued to walk around the store and on the way out the door, the owner, a short man behind the counter, loudly yelled in my direction, "you used the bathroom, the least you could do is to say thank you". I was in total shock that anyone would be so rude to a customer. One and done for me. Unethical behavior by owner. "54 years in business..." After multiple occasions in the early 2000's of visiting this establishment and being disappointed with the service I personally have avoided returning. Today my son was exposed to this. We were just at this record store. I grew up in Concord and have always patronized this store since I was young. I was with my sister who started sneezing a few times. The store manager/owner shouted (yes, shouted) across the store and asked, "Whoever is sneezing would you please come over here?" She went over to him (and I thought he was going to give her a tissue). He very rudely and loudly said, "For the protection of me and my customers, please step out". I understand in these times the sentiment and reasoning why he asked this. It's not that, it's the WAY he rudely, loudly and unnecessarily demeaning approach he took to the situation. There are professional ways to handle a situation, and he was far from it. He could have very easily, quietly requested that she step out of the store. Instead, he made her feel embarrassed and shamed. We are two sisters visiting in our middle aged to the stores we patronized as kids. We met here in our hometown, each driving hours to meet. We were having a great day in the downtown of Concord. I will never visit Pitchfork Records again. It's a sad day to see it run by such a rude manager/owner. Be better. There are so many well-run businesses in Concord, NH. This is not one of them. read more

What a great place for used music! This downtown music store has plenty of records, tapes and compact discs and stereo equipment. Pitchfork Records was voted the Best of NH 2003 for Best Record Store! The main floor is crammed with rows of CDs, cassettes, VHS tapes, DVDs, vinyl records, turntables, stereo receivers, boomboxes, speakers, media, cleaning supplies, and other misc items. They even carry the hard to find replacement cartridges and needles for turntables. The new CD prices on the main floor are really marked up (around $16-$18) compared to the big box store prices. Can't find a CD? Order it by 3PM and they'll have the CD by 1PM the next business day. What really brings me in here is the bargain basement, which has plenty of deeply discounted used CDs ($3.99-$8.99), LP records (88 cents), 45 rpm records ($1.00), cassettes ($1.99-$3.99), and 8 track tapes ($1.99). This is a bargain hunter's dream for scavenging some lost treasures from the past. I found an old Genesis record and some assorted used 90s rap and grunge rock CDs on the cheap. Gnarly!!! I can spend a good hour plus here just searching for titles that slipped my mind for many years. NOTE: Currently, the exterior of the building is getting a much needed makeover. read more

Hey, this place is a diamond in the rough! What great customer service! We went in to look for a record player and the owner or manager was super helpful! Even backed up his sale on a discounted player. We really wanted a specific one and they were sold out, but had a couple that had an issue with the CD player, that wasn't a concern for us because we don't listen to CD's. We had inherited a bunch of records from a family member that passed away... we were very excited to find this player for a very reasonable price. And as an added feature the owner/manager said to call him if we had any problems! Now that is service!!! read more

Possibly my favorite place to get records and vinyl. There is a selection of brand new which i would probably never get but once in a while I like to get something that isn't classic rock which predominately is what you will find in places that sell vinyl. The CD selection, likewise is very good. The DVD selection is some what of an after thought and about as popular as the casettes. Good selection here on electronics and the owner is very knowledgeable for all types of media, systems and such things, he is almost so knowledgable he will leave you speechless if you don't know what you are asking. This is the quintisential record store, the one you might find in High Fidelity if it really existed. They get a lot of new stuff in so they are worth checking into a couple of times a month. Also, it takes a while to go through everything if you are looking for vinyl so i would go after you have eaten and have an empty bladder. read more

Do not deal with the owner, Mike. Am in Concord once or twice a year and live 2 hour round trip away. Stopped in looking for specific album, which he did not have in stock, but he said could order for me. Said no thanks, due to long return round trip trip that would have been needed to pick up order. Owner then became irate and told me I was wasting his time and irrational without knowing anything about the distance I would have had to drive back for a $14 album. Bottom line: Mike, you're a rude assumption filled owner who has no business working with the public. Your cd prices, especially the used cd's, are high. Can get used and new music much cheaper and easier at Amazon without being mistreated. Also, as the fortunate owner of a fine dedicated audio room in my house, your audio equipment is low end and overpriced. Go elsewhere, the sooner this store is out of business the better! For confirmation, look at at other one star reviews which repeatedly show Mike's belligerent behavior towards customers. My biggest regret when I left this store is that I even wasted time explaining to the owner why I did not want to order. Purchased record player and two records for Christmas gift. Gift was opened and found that the power cord was missing. Called and said bring it down and they will give us power cord. We got cord and tried to exchange a record only to find that we were charged 30 plus dollars and the owner told us to come back some other time. Police were called and owner kicked us out. Made a trip from Manchester to Concord NH to check out this record and stereo shop, and MAN, am I glad that I did! Thousands of vinyl records, both new and used! A clean environment and friendly, helpful as well as knowledgeable sales staff make this place a MUST visit for vinyl enthusiasts AND their collection of CD's is also quite impressive! When he found out that he didn't have the 1/4 to 3/4 adapter I needed for my headphones he took my address down and informed me that he would mail it to me free of charge when they come in! Still the best place for records and used music in New Hampshire. I have stopped in here many times over the years to browse, shop from them at their annual yard sale, and buy records. When I got a new record player for Christmas, I dragged my dad here with me to get some standards for my collection. Pitchfork had them all. The only downside: many of them cost much more than I was interested in paying. I know that that's my own fault for waiting so long to start a collection, but it was still a little disappointing. I recommend that you start in the discount bins first, especially if you're not looking for something in particular. I found a few good albums for 89 cents each, though I had to shell out a couple of dollars for the others. They also have new vinyl, and a full CD collection. The people here are interesting to chat with and very wise about their merchandise. Just come with a few extra bucks because once you get that Bruce Springsteen album in your hands, you're not going to want to let go of it again. read more

I don't collect records, and I don't own a record player to even play them, but Pitchfork turned me on to the hype that surrounds vinyl. This place is like a gold mine for those appreciate the lost art of real, good music. Pitchfork is a massive store with wall-to-wall bins stocked with records. Their selection is vast and their prices are reasonable. You can find almost any album here, from the oldies but goodies to music from the 90's. As you nearly hopelessly sift through the collections they have, the employees are more than happy to assist customers who are simply lost or can't find what they're looking for. The staff is not only knowledgeable but incredibly pleasant and easy-going (especially with first timers like me). I grew up in a generation whose vintage music was cassette tapes, but Pitchfork still made me feel nostalgic, regardless of my lack of relationship with the era of records. Pitchfork made me think of my parents in their 20's, purchasing records in a store very similar to this, and that was a beautiful moment that I couldn't help but appreciate. So, if you're looking to relive your glory days of youth or you want to tap into some of that magic your parents experienced, Pitchfork is the place to do it. read more

The man that owns this store was screaming at two young girls working for him on the weekend. He was demeaning them loudly in front of the whole store. I left with all my friends because I felt so uncomfortable. We then saw the two young girls (one of which was crying hysterically) outside in -11 winter temps because he had kicked them out. Since the whole thing happened in the store, I was able to tell that they hadn't done anything wrong besides be young and not know how to work. i am updating a previous review where i gave only one star which wasn't fair. i was upset because the owner didn't want to look at some headphones i had bought there and was having trouble with. i had known them to do repairs so i was upset. that being said, i've been going to this store since i was a kid and the selection is pretty darn good and the prices are on point. tons of deals on new and used cds. the employees that work there are great and very helpful and theres tons of deals on used items - if you're trying to get your piece of equipment repaired, try someone else or youtube it, its not something they do. the bottom line is this is a solid record store. if you're a music lover, you will be able to find something to take home here. thats saying something these days. read more

I just moved to town a few weeks ago and I was SO excited to see a REAL music store in town! I was not disappointed! The selection is huge and is such a treasure trove. They guys who own Pitchfork are in the biz for the right reasons. They don't care if you're looking for the latest new album or a lost gem, they just want to see you happy. They are very knowegable on all aspects of music (from ABBA to Zappa or Aerosmith to ZZ top). In an era where it seems chain stores an mass media a zapping diveristy from the world, this little hidden gem still stands. Granted, they may not be the cheapest out there, but what you get in return is people who treat you the same if buy or are just in to poke around. They got even better after they moved across the street, gaining a bit more space. There is also plenty of parking on the street and in the nearby municiple garage. read more

I always stop into Pitchfork to check out their movies selection. They're almost always 1/2 off used DVDs, and you never know what you'll find. The music selection is pretty wide too, with plenty of both new and used CDs, tapes, and vinyl. I asked if they could adjust my turntable and install a new belt. Yes. So I brought it in and picked it up (paid my $63) and brought home and it was not repaired! Still off speed even though I was assured it had been adjusted with a strobe. Worse, I checked the belt and it was the same tired old belt. Good grief. I didn't bother going back. read more
