The downstairs is two tiny high tops for two and one that might fit three plus a few tables out front. I mention that so when you go, not to expect a sit down experience. The food was nothing that other places don't make, but was so good. I had a simple shawarma wrap and a side of baba ghanoush. Both were excellent. The shwarma was beef and lamb, which I ordered with the Toum and hot sauce, as well as the standard onions, pickled veggies, and tomatoes, and it was small. But every bite was perfect! I don't know why or how, but the little wrap could have been the best thing I ate the entire trip, and believe me when I say that I ate a lot. I have eaten shwarma and/ or kebabs from dozens of places in dozens of cities and I can't say that I have had better. I ate great shwarma at Taza on Queensway and throughout London in the 90s, but bite for bite, this was as good or better. I hope my glowing review doesn't set the bar impossibly high, because it's the simplicity that makes this little sandwich so good. It's also in a fun and vibrant neighborhood near the Pompidou Center, so I would highly recommend this for lunch or even a hearty snack for someone who may be walking all day.

The restaurant, set inside a stunning mosque across the street from Jardin des Plantes, is hard to miss. I had made a reservation for an early dinner, and we were seated inside the mosque. Upon arriving, we actually had to find a new table since the restaurant's resident cat was sprawled across the couch, taking an afternoon nap. When we were settled in, we ordered the tagine with beef meatballs; couscous with chicken; and eggplant and carrot salad. Everything paired so well together. The tagine was incredibly flavorful - it tasted as if it had been simmering for hours. The couscous, stew, and chicken all arrived on separate platters - it was a little awkward to serve, but the sum of parts was delicious. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the vegetable stew was the optimal accompaniment. The tangy carrot and eggplant salad provided a source of brightness to the meal. Dining in the beautiful setting of the mosque-restaurant added to the overall charm of the experience.

The mint tea is probably their most famous drink and I see why it is. Perfectly sweetened, served in a glass but it is warm; don't try to chug it. There is a wide selection of sweets. Once you pick your table, a server will come with beverages. Then you can walk back to the entrance of the cafe and pick your sweets. The garden itself is very private and relaxing, away from the street noise. It was a nice little corner of heaven.

We found one it suggested and made our way there. We arrived and decided to go into the restaurant next door because it looked a billion times more cosy and was also considerably cheaper. As with almost all Parisian eateries we were sat at a tiny table, wedged next to another couple at a similarly weeny table, who were in turn squeezed between us and another couple at a size-challenged table. The result is an incredibly intimate atmosphere, but also quite a jovial and welcoming one. The set menu we went for was essentially four courses for 14Euros. You can't get much better value than that. First up was soup or a tapas, followed by pasta, then a dessert finished off with mint tea or turkish coffee. It was simple but well made and tasty. Only one man was serving the entire (full) restaurant. Despite this he managed to be efficient and friendly as he zipped between the teeny tables and the kitchen. This restaurant also features a gallery where artists exhibit downstairs. In addition to this being a prime spot overlooking the Seine, it blows the mind how cheap it is - it's worth much more.
