    Allergen List Part 2

This place is amazing! they have a full allergen list right on the counter for display, as well as separate grills for vegetarian/vegan food! The cashiers and food preparers are extremely friendly, and there are a lot of options to eat here.

No CAESAR dressing in my Chicken CAESAR pita.
    Krista L.

I've wanted to try out Pita Pit for a long period of time and chose today to be the lucky day. I've got to say, I'm quite surprised...at the lack of common sense the Kennedy & Progress in Toronto location lacks... majorly. I decided to try a classic; Chicken CAESAR pita. Once I was asked what toppings I would prefer, I asked "What does a Chicken CAESAR usually come with?". "Oh you know, lettuce, bacon, chicken, parmesan cheese, and caesar dressing." After much deliberation, the choice was made and I opted for what it usually included. Or so I thought. When I walked back to the office anticipating my Chicken CAESAR pita, I noticed within the first two bites that CAESAR dressing was nowhere to be tasted... After finishing half of the pita, still no sign of CAESAR dressing in my Chicken CAESAR pita. Unsatisfied, I threw out what was left. I sit here in regret, with my tummy still rumbling and $9 poorer.

On Saturday, after taking in a matinee at Cineplex Odeon Eglinton Town Centre, I was more than…read moreready to have a late lunch. It was nearly 3:30 pm. I remembered this California Sandwiches across the street. I had never been to this location before. It was time to visit it. There was lots of parking. It's where a bunch of box stores are, including Lowe's Home Improvement and Michael's. This California Sandwiches is a part of a row of three businesses. When you are looking north on Warden Avenue, it's California sandwiches on the left, Freedom Mobile in the middle, and Big Guys that is closest to Warden Avenue. All three businesses are just south of the Merchant's Flea Market. I parked close to the eatery and walked over. There is a ramp if you require a wheelchair or rolling walker to get there. I walked in. There were two folks in front of me in the lineup to place an order. The woman, in particular, was taking her sweet time ordering her sausage sandwich. Luckily, I had had some popcorn during the movie. I wasn't hangry. I was hungry, though. When she was finally done ordering, I got up to the front counter. There is plexiglass that separates you and the staffer. She was nice, but she couldn't hear my order because the woman next to me kept talking to another staffer for some reason. The staffer and I both looked at this woman. When she had finished talking, I repeated myself. The staffer finally heard me. I ordered a veal sandwich with mushrooms. Toppings seemed to have increased since I last ordered this sandwich. It was $2.50 for mushrooms. I love mushrooms that it's a non-negotiable for me. When the woman in front of me was ordering, I was admiring her purple sneakers. Sure enough, we struck up a conversation. She noticed my purple t-shirt that I had on. We got to talking about her sneakers. She got them from Amazon and said that they were comfy, but ran large. She said that they were fine with her arch support and socks on. It was nice chatting with her. She was on the high maintenance side, though. Staff were extremely patient with her. She had ordered a canned drink, but wanted it in a glass. A staffer grabbed one from the shelf. The woman asked that the glass be rinsed out. The lineup behind me became long. It's what happens when you need to wash a glass out, I suppose. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I waited patiently off to the side for my food. I will say that service is slower here than most California Sandwiches that I have been to. I think the woman receiving the food from the kitchen, and then placing it into bags or on trays was spaced out. It was interesting to observe. When she rattled off my order, I acknowledged her, which seemed to snap her out of whatever temporary trance that she was in. She handed me my paper bag with my sandwich. I thanked her and left the eatery. There were tables and seats to dine in. However, I felt like eating in my car. It's private. I can listen to good music. It's good. I'm used to it. Out of all California Sandwiches that I have frequented, this place takes the cake, um, sandwich. I got the largest veal sandwich ever. This place was generous with the layers of veal that were between the bun, with an equally generous amount of marinara sauce smothered on top of the veal. I unwrapped my sandwich and the right half of it automatically fell to the right. It was that weighty. You do get a bunch of those thin, flimsy napkins. I had to use them all. Another reason to eat it in your car is that it's a messy activity. I had marinara sauce on my face and around my mouth with each bite like a kid. It was a sign of a decent sandwich. Oddly, I never wore my sandwich. I normally do with a large, messy one. If the sauce or mushrooms had to fall out of my sandwich, they did onto the wrapper. Yay to no clothing stains and not doing laundry that night! This sandwich was gigantic and yummy. The veal was tender and perfectly breaded. The marinara sauce was flavourful. It was the perfect amount. I got a lot of mushrooms, which made this mushroom fan happy. The bun was soft and allowed me to grip everything as well as I could. Looking back, I should have stopped after devouring half my sandwich. It was so hot and delicious that I ate the other half. I then suffered from being full and had to take a walk. Otherwise, I would have passed out in my car for an hour or more. I dig this eatery a lot. My sandwich was excellent. Staff were helpful and pleasant. We'll see what folks are there when I return next time. (170)

I had flagged this eatery for a while. It was nice to drop by at long last and do a return visit, too. Mamajoun is roughly one block west of Warden Avenue, on the south side of Ellesmere Road. I had no problem finding a parking spot in the plaza. I backed into a spot practically in front of the main entrance and walked in. I was warmly greeted by Mihran, who owns the eatery with his wife. He was so welcoming and took the time to chat with me. I have had a papajoun wrap in the past, which is a flatbread with ground beef, onions, garlic, and red pepper paste. He let me know that his dough recipe came from his grandfather, which makes the dough so light and malleable. I had traditional Armenian toppings in my wrap, such as tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, and pickled turnips. If you are getting your wraps to go, he carefully packages them such that they still remain hot and toasty for thirty minutes. I ended up driving back to Markham and enjoying my wrap in downtown Markham. It was warm and yummy. When I first walked into the eatery, I was looking at bags of mante. I smelled the bag and it automatically made me hungry. He enjoys serving several beef mante in chicken broth, with tomato sauce and yogurt. He let me know that the chicken stock in bottles at the nearby Costco was what he used and they were of high quality. Good to know! I ended up getting some tomato dill soup from Farm Boy and put my mante in them. It was amazing! His instructions to bake them in the oven at 400°F for five to eight minutes and place them in soup is amazing. I asked if folks simply popped mante in their mouths like popcorn. He said that it was a perfectly acceptable way to enjoy them. The pack of zaatar that I picked up was excellent. Mihran said that I could freeze them. When I wanted one, just take one out of the freezer and let it thaw for fifteen minutes. Each zaatar tastes so fresh and yummy. I paid for my items both times with a credit card. This place does not accept American Express. I feel that most businesses don't these days. I thanked him for all his help and taking the time to speak with me. He said that the feeling was mutual, which was nice. Everything that I have eaten at this place has been flavourful and delicious. I'm a fan. Great food. Great owner. No complaints. (201)

No changes to the burger. Fries. The Good Shake was really good - thick and delicious. Nice straw too. (The "bubble tea" kind.) I liked the Gladiator "sauce". Good amount of onions - fair sized tomato. The Bad Burger was not tasty. Middling at best. Lacked any "Mmmm ... now this is a tasty burger." The fries were underwhelming (I threw out the last one ...). Could be how it was cooked - not a tasty. It has that "skin on" look - whether they cut their own or get them that way don't know. But just were average. (The ketchup did have a factor) The Ugly If you want to be a player with the big dogs, you need to spend money. Whether it is this location or all Gladiator's I don't know. By providing "mediocre" ketchup, negatively impacted my experience. "Ventura Foods" ketchup is garbage. And what I found really funny - you supply "HEINZ MAYO". And I am not married to Heinz - but Ventura is low end. I am not spending $22 for a meal and using low end ketchup.
