From the moment I arrived there was no receptionist -- I had to check in via camera -- and the staff repeatedly asked me the same simple requests I had clearly stated when booking. Despite asking for roots, gray coverage, and blonde highlights around my face, the stylists seemed confused and unprofessional; one even told me they weren't the right salon for me when I became frustrated. TLDR: Dawn is AMAZING, and my best friend says, "I don't know if you've ever had a haircut that's more 'you!'" If you love details and want to be amused by my "holiday hair nightmare" (pre-Pistachio), read on, lol I've been looking for "that stylist" since moving to the area nearly 6 years ago... The one that would listen to what I want, and competently deliver. I kept receiving cuts I didn't like and color which aged me, because there's a certain "type" some stylists like to stick to (my experience in DC as well as CA, despite showing pics of myself with previous cut/color I'd like to have again). Just 3 days before Christmas, another salon (out of the area) had turned every hair on my head various shades of white and grey, then tried to convince me it was "beautiful blonde." After that, I was determined to find a place that cared about what their customers wanted... After a thorough search, I came to trust Pistachio's 5-star reviews, and got so much more than expected (and therefore, the least I can do is write a review of my own). When I booked the appt, I was assured Dawn had years of experience, and that I'd receive a "double-consultation," just to make sure "everyone's on the same page." That calmed my nerves... And thanks to the receptionist, I felt heard (despite speaking through a screen); when she asked about my previous hair appt, I explained I'd been turned into Mrs. Clause just before Christmas, that it had taken 9.5 hrs to undo, and sensing my confidence was shaken, she helped me gain trust that I'd be in good hands. I really appreciated the professional communication leading up to my appointment; the electronic confirmations, and even the paperwork they sent me to sign beforehand... So professional. It increased my trust and respect for Pistachio; I admire their efficiency. Dawn (as well as everyone else in the salon) was genuinely friendly, kind, and absolutely attentive... I certainly wasn't treated like "just another number." Dawn could have easily taken advantage of the situation by saying I needed a lot more color correction done... I was expecting it, but instead, after a considerable double-consult (as promised!), she saved me a lot of money, time and chemical-treatment by wisely putting less color to more use (especially when a lot of my hair was about to be cut off, anyhow, as she pointed out). The results were even better than what I'd asked for, because she listened to what I wanted and really "got me" - YES! Beautiful color that makes me look younger, rather than older (it's all about skin tone)... I found a true Hair Artist. Once the color was done, I was surprised to receive another thorough double-consult, as Dawn got clarity on the hairstyle I wanted. I'd like to add that even in posh NYC salons where I did receive a double-consult in the past, it was rushed, while my experience at Pistachio was completely different because both Dawn and Hope were each totally focused, thorough, and had meaningful input on what they thought should be done. Very well done, Hair Artists! I had a pic of myself with a triangular cut that I'd loved years ago... It's very sophisticated, and only 1 stylist from Paris had created and maintained it for me (on the East Coast), but Dawn replicated it and that speaks volumes because the stylist who gave me that masterpiece is one of Aveda's top stylists worldwide (he even styled the models that appear on the walls of many Aveda salons). Yes, Dawn is that good. I'm holding back tears because it means so much to me to know I don't have to be afraid to get my hair done anymore... I am so happy to have Dawn and Pistachio in my life. Came in as a first time customer. I work nearby this salon & saw that they had great reviews, therefore, I gave them a shot. So glad I did as my stylist Hope was an absolute doll. She made me feel comfortable right off the bat. She was easy to talk to and when I wanted to relax/ close my eyes during the blowout, she totally allowed me to do that. Another thing I communicated with her that my last haircut by another salon was much shorter than I asked for and I didn't feel like myself with it. She was very understanding and walked me through my vision to be sure I would be satisfied which I loved. I have fine hair that is somewhat thinning lately, and I wanted layers but didn't want it to appear even thinner. She gave me the perfect face framing layers and did a blunt cut overall to give the illusion that my hair is thicker. I've been going here since we moved to San Marcos (4 years). It's a bit of a drive but I'm loyal to Aveda products and love the stylists that I've had. Both of my sons have medium length hair and can't go to a barber for their cuts so I started bringing them here and I really appreciate they don't rush through their cuts just cause they are teens and treat them like "adult guests", especially since they aren't interested in all the little details like a scalp massage when you get your hair washed, tea, etc. They put effort into treating them like everyone else and take the time to ask them questions, look up pics to make sure they get it right. They were also very helpful in making sure that my Aveda Rewards points are correct and have gone back through my purchases to make sure they were credited properly. I've been using the products for over 20 years so this is important to me. Can't say enough about this place, always a great experience. read more

I wanted this to be my new place because I have been using Aveda products for twenty years, and I am chemically sensitive to synthetic fragrances. While I CAN have stylists use Redken colors on me etc., I have to suffer the often ensuing headache afterward. I was hesitant to book at Pistachio because I prefer to be able to see my stylist's work beforehand and this salon is woefully lacking on the kind of before and after photos I like to see before I book a Balayage service and cut. (They have an IG account but it's mostly corporate generated ads.) It's a shame they don't post more on their IG because if they are doing great color work, the customer has no way of knowing. After originally booking a partial Balayage and a cut I called to downgrade to a cut to see how they did with that. The salon is typical looking except for the Covid safe receptionist on the computer instead of a real person. She is hard to hear at times but that was fine. Gone are the Aveda experiences that Aveda salon customers are used to. I was not asked about the signature hand massages but was told they no longer did them due to Covid. This struck me as odd since none of the salon employees were wearing masks. I wore mine because I am still Covid safe but my stylist was maskless. Would it be so risky to perform a signature Aveda salon treatment on customers who have just used sanitizer or washed their hands? Hmmmm. But whatever, my stylist was nice and we discussed that I wanted long layers but a straight cut in the back. I needed more lift in the cut and liked to blow straight and curl. I was clear that I only wanted one and half inches taken off. She took off three. "What do you think of the length? Too short?" She asked as if she knew that yes, she did indeed cut it too short. I said, yes too short. She said, "Well believe it or not that was the inch and half you asked for," while I looked at all of the three inch pieces of my hair on the floor around the chair. I told myself this wouldn't bother me. It would grow. She curled my hair, it looked nice, and I left but I neglected to really analyze the layers, run my fingers through it and inspect it with the mirrors. A few days later when I went to style it and realized that while she cut layers around my face, the rest of my hair was basically untouched. Giving me no lift and no dimension. I'll never forget a stylist I used to see in Scottsdale tell me that with a great cut, you barely need to style your hair. This has been true with every great stylist I have seen. But this cut? When I blow it out it looks barely changed from what it was. WHen I curl it, it's not right either. She never even asked which side I parted my hair on, and when I put my hair in front of my shoulders it's not even. I went back to have the cut fixed and the stylist told me that the unevenness happens when you put your hair in front of your shoulders. Her reasoning made sense until I got home and thought about how I've been getting professional haircuts my whole life and it's never looked uneven when I put it in front of my shoulders. The second stylist "blended" my layers and curled my hair so I thought it looked nice again but again when I got home I realized the back and side layers were barely touched and my hair still not style properly. I called to cancel my Balayage and told them why and they said they would give the owner feedback. So basically I paid what? 80 dollars for a mediocre cut that took too much length off hair I was super excited about finally being longer that I know have to wait to grow out again. I'm going back to my old stylist next week so she can put in some actual layers and for the Balayage. She doesn't use Aveda but at least she can cut hair beautifully. read more

I already had a prior in depth consultation w Jordan (by the way when I got there he acted like he never met me). The owner brushed it off and in no way took responsibility for this unprofessional treatment. I would never give business to such an unorganized salon. I was waiting to update my review after I received a call from Lucy's husband who said he was the owner. He asked me what happened- I told him. His reply was he was sorry he didn't know why I was told there was no manager available when there had been. He blamed the rudeness on COVID and pregnancy. Yes you read that correctly. He blamed the receptionists rudeness on Covid and pregnancy. He said he could gladly see me in September if I changed my mind about coming in and I should ask for his wife Lucy.
