Stop by at this local restaurant after a good hike. Place wasn't too busy in the afternoon and we were seated immediately. There were a lot of items on the menu to try and it was hard to decide. Ended up sharing a platter and an order of onion rings. The platter consisted of two sides and 3 different fried items. We choose the fried oysters, fried fish, and clam strips. They were pretty decent. Everything was fried nicely and wasn't soggy. I think the waitress forgot to put my onion rings order in because when our food came out I asked her about it and it took a while for the onion rings to come out after our meal. Love Fish Camp. Can't wait till they open again. I miss being able to go eat wonderful seafood before concerts at Brevard Music venues.

We've been to other Fish Camps and they have been great. So imagine our disappointment when the Brevard location delivered a small portion of soggy fish, mushy overcooked probably frozen green beans and how do you mess up mashed potatoes in the south?! We had gone to the Saint Augustine Fish, Camp restaurant and loved it! This Fishcamp, however, was a huge disappointment. Somehow the fish and chips were tasteless. I didn't even know that was possible! Plus, the fries were soggy and the distracted, waitress scowled at a 15% tip. Do not recommend. Pleasntly surprised. Last time we were at a DIFFERENT "fish camp" we got fish eyes looking at us!! Anyway...THIS place was AMAZING! Food was reasonably priced, DELICIOUS and the service was EXCEPTIONAL! Thank you Lexi for a great experience. You were pleasant, funny and served us well WITHOUT hovering. A friendly and good restaurant to rest and relax after a hike right by the Pisgah National Forest. They have your typical fried seafood fare you'd see at any fish camp style place. There are options for grilled and blackened, but not in the combo platter selection. The crab cakes and oysters are an up charge from the pricing they indicate. Everything was cooked well, I especially enjoyed the baked potato. It's simple but hard to get right - super fluffy and not charred. The coconut meringue pie was a great finish! read more

Tried this because my husband loves seafood and fish camps! I'm not a seafood fan but I can always find chicken or steak. He had some combination plate. The quantity of food was extremely small, tasted old to him. I had tenders, they were also teeny. The restaurant was clean and service was good. The food was lacking. We won't be back. read more

Very easy to pass if you are not paying attention. Building from the outside was not typically what I would eat at, but I'm glad I was talked into it. The food was surprisingly good, and good portion size. I kinda felt like I was in a nursing home sometimes...easily one of the youngest customers today. I guess the reason for them being open for so many years is the good food. I would like to come back during the week for the under $11.00 seafood buffet, unfortunately it is shut down on Sundays. We loved the food. The salmon was perfection, and the fries and hush puppies were yummy. My husband and son (who ate free because he's under 5!) got the fried founder. The delicious food was complimented by extremely wonderful and hospitable servers. I've heard good things about their fried okra and collard green sides, will try next time. My wife stopped in during the early spring and just getting around to posting a review, so crowds certainly not what it's like now. We were in late in the afternoon after hiking all day. Service was fast and attentive without hovering. We had great food (trout for both of us) and enjoyed our meal. Ambiance is not a strong suit, but you kinda know what to expect. Food was cooked fresh and server was friendly. It's definitely a locals place, as everyone seems to know everyone else. It has a local diner feel to it. No complaints, Just felt a little bit sleepy, for what we usually prefer. Wanting to be honest, probably best for an older crowd...and we're in our 50's. Note: zero servers were wearing masks. That was a big disappointment. One thing we really appreciate about visiting this area is everyones attention to health and safely. The atmosphere is nothing special -- but very clean and open and fun. Great local beers and wines. Friendly staff eager to please. Extensive grilled and fried seafood and also non-seafood options. Extensive sides and desserts. Everything on the menu we have had so far is cooked to perfection, excellently seasoned. Truly -- it's so fresh and delightful. They have clearly figured out how to cook truly excellent seafood. And I have never seen a restaurant cook cheese grits and collards so perfectly. The hush puppies are legitimately excellent (I've had amazing hush puppies and terrible ones--and these are amazing). The strawberry rhubarb pie lives up to the hype and you are missing out if you don't leave room. They also have online ordering for takeout which is great since we live 1 mile away. Came in at 7:49pm (they close at 8pm). Order food to go. Told it would be 10-15 mins. They asked if I wanted to wait in the lobby or in my car. I said I'd wait in my car. Told them the make, model and color of my car. I sat directly outside the door for 30 mins. Nothing. Went inside and saw my food sitting on counter. They said they went outside several time looking for me. My car was running, 10' from their front door. There were only 2 other cars in the parking lot. No one came outside -- I did not leave my car. Manager did not even attempt to apologize, said it was my fault because they didn't have my phone number. No one asked for my number. This place is a shit-show. Avoid at all costs. Seriously lacking in customer service. Spend you're money elsewhere. read more

I have eaten here a few times, tried to like this place but I can't recommend it. My reasons are: super small portions; way too much salt; nothing that tasty; price value. I have been to some upscale seafood restaurants in Maryland and Florida which are known for top quality fish. This place is not anywhere near top quality, just heat frozen fish and serve it. Where have you people who gave 5 star reviews eaten fish that has you raving about this place? My last visit, I ordered salmon. It came out somewhat cold in center, as if they heated up a frozen piece. I mentioned something to the waitress, she looked as if I asked her to provide a dissertation on fast track nuclear reactors. I loved my grilled trout. I ordered extra lemon because at some places, that's the only way to bring out the flavor. But this trout was seasoned well, no extra lemon needed. My fried okra was good. My daughter got a combo plate and they were willing to grill half of it so she had grilled flounder and calabash shrimp. She enjoyed her dinner too. The only thing I didn't care for was the vegetable soup. The veggies were undercooked in it. Overall I liked this place a lot, and will plan to go back when I am back in the area. read more

Ate there for the first time in many years and loved it! My parents camped at the nearby Davidson River Campground when the place first opened so I remember it from many years ago. The place is clean and neat. The service was wonderful and the food was excellent! We were camping in the area and went there for dinner. We live in Florida in a tourist area and we were stunned at the excellent quality seafood at the Pisgah Fish Camp! The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. They serve better food than most of the seafood restaurants in our area. I can't compliment this place enough! Staff was super friendly and the food was outstanding. To begin, I'm from the Florida Gulf Coast so I'm admittedly spoiled for fresh seafood. So...the Calabash shrimp was popcorn shrimp despite the pictures shown on the menu. Not my favorite and usually imported from China. Cheese grits were heavy and not very flavorful. Hush puppies were also very heavy and flavorless. Cole Slaw tasted strange like it was maybe made with pickle relish..uh just no. Tartar sauce looked and tasted like mayo with a tiny bit of pickle. Not right either. Husband's fish and chips was better, Cod with beer batter and lots of large, battered fries. I doubt that much of the seafood is fresh, being so far inland but in that case at least concentrate on making the sides tastier and more authentic. I won't return. read more

A yummy Sunday meal full of hospitality! We stopped here after completing a hike at Pisgah National Forest. The exterior and interior felt very mom & pop, so we were excited to find several craft beer offerings. Our waitress was sweet and extra attentive. For meals, I had the calabash shrimp with a baked potato and corn on the cob, and he had the fried seafood platter with potato salad and macaroni salad. We were impressed with all of our food! Enjoyed our dinner there so much! Had family in from NJ on waterfalls hikes & came across this place. They had no idea what a fish camp was so we tried it out. What a treasure! Shrimp & grits was on special & was delicious then the price was beyond reasonable! We also had rainbow trout , shrimp and various sides. The Mac n cheese was amazing! Pisgah Fish Camp in Pisgah Forest, NC, has for decades been cooking the best fried oysters in western NC (or so I have persuaded myself) -- always fresh mollusks, never overdone, large, not over-breaded. Heading back home to Brevard from Hendersonville earlier today, I knew I would drive by it. I became possessed of an irresistible urge to indulge myself again with those delectable fried oysters. As I pushed thru the front door about 3:30pm, I was delighted to see that I would have the spacious dining room virtually to myself. My friendly waitress, "Leslie" (are they still called "waitresses?"), settled me at my table and took my order right away. She persuaded me also to order today's chef's special sides (fried okra and cheese grits), as they're fresh and cooked at once to the customer's order. "Oh, boy," I thought, "The planets are aligned perfectly today!" I expected soon to enjoy my best meal in weeks. Alas, it was not to be! No sooner had I first sipped from my water glass than a score of new customers tumbled through the front door. The hostess seated them all in areas of the dining room that were apparently Leslie's exclusive province, as the four other waitresses on the floor continued their chatter with each other unabated. Leslie waited on an elderly couple who had just been seated next to me. They wanted to know all the ingredients in every menu item. Leslie should get the Nobel Peace Prize, as she patiently recited the ingredients of every entree. From memory! (How did she do that?!) After duly considering Leslie's comprehensive recitation, the customer finally instructed Leslie to bring her the "garden salad" but to hold the onion, tomato, olives, celery, capers and bell pepper. (Anybody remember Jack Nicholson's hilarious similar caper in "Five Easy Pieces?") Leslie continued with dispatch to wait on the many other customers who by now had settled within her area of responsibility in the dining room. She hustled and maintained her smile, but after all orders had been taken and submitted to the kitchen; all beverages and appetizers had been served; extra lemon wedges, more sides of tartar sauce, three take-out boxes, and many individual salt and pepper packets had been requested and delivered (Leslie explained that the restaurant had run out of salt and pepper shakers but that more "were on order"), my anticipation had ebbed considerably. My meal would probably have been good when first prepared, but by the time Leslie got it to me it bore the ravages of a few too many minutes of dehydration under an infrared lamp followed by at least as many minutes under a burned-out bulb. "Not to worry," I consoled myself, "as Providence gave man microwave ovens for the rescue of just such calamities." I stuffed my meal into my own take-out box and headed home. As I passed the hostess at the front door, however, I noticed from my receipt that I had been overcharged for my oyster entree. The hostess explained that the recent bad economy had forced the restaurant to raise all its prices. I wasn't going to argue about their failure to update their menu prices. I had already paid by credit card. By now I was late for my next engagement, and I was tired. I just growled, as I left. Post script: Later this evening (Friday) I re-deep fried my oysters, okra, and hush puppies in my Presto deep fryer at home in batches at 325 degrees for two minutes each batch. The result? Not too bad. And the cheese grits responded acceptably to a 50-second nuke burst. Perhaps all's well that ends well? (But now I've got to clean up my kitchen.) Date of visit: October 2021 read more
