It is hard to know where to begin. The project took so long and there were so many issues with Pipe Spy that pulling it all together in a coherent review seems a daunting task! The take home message is that there are many other options out there and you should pick someone else. - project was months and months late. - they would start the project and then stop with no noice and leave for another job. Eventually they would show up again. - They kept trying to charge us more. Eventually we said no, we are not paying more. Let's just get it inspected and it passed! Pushing them on this saved another 4K. - Communication was horrible. I spoke with the owner. Excuses and no understanding of my concerns or interest in fixing the issues. Just did not get it. They have their list of excuses and some of them are legit. 75% are not. read more

We called out PipeSpy for a quote for a lateral sewer replacement on a new home, having seen surveys they had done for other properties. No camera was used to see pipes at the time of the quote and unfortunately the Quote was a colossal 26k in total. That amount was 16k higher than the quote from the company we eventually chose to do the work . It's also 10 k above the next highest bid. (All the other competitors were local and widely used and do great work, so the price was just not worth entertaining. Disappointed, maybe they just did not want the work and overbid. read more

Professional, polite, and congenial from beginning to end. Thrilled that they were very conscientious about Covid-19 safety-related issues in spite of everyone having been vaccinated. They did the job requested and did it to an exacting standard. Courteous employees (so much so that they even brought our garbage bins in for us on garbage day. Seriously? What company has ever done that for you before?) consistently going above and beyond. Nothing was done that wasn't discussed in the estimate and revised estimate. The revision was due to a surprise upon opening up some of the concrete. It happens when someone is working on a property built in 1906 and honestly was not completely unexpected. Everything was clearly delineated in the estimates. All permits obtained, road signs placed, inspections scheduled. Plants carefully removed, set aside, and then replaced beautifully after the work was done. The opening in the street was resurfaced as well as repairs to all of the concrete areas which had needed to be torn up for the upper, lower and additional line sewer lateral replacements. Meaning steps, sidewalk, area in front of the basement door, everything. We should have hired them to redo all of the steps. The areas they repaired look far superior to what was there originally! Just purchased a house in Marin that Pipe Spy did the inspections for. They found issues requiring repairs but they were utterly hopeless at carrying through. VERY DISAPPOINTING They were unprofessional in several ways which led me to Peter Levi Plumbing. 1) the inpsection report was sent to the wrong client. 2) the address for the report was incorrect on the original and subsequent correspondence despite requests to amend 3) after purchasing the house I contacted them 4 times. I faxed signed estimates to them and all but begged them to schedule repairs but NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK. This led me to Peter Levi Plumbing who came out the day after I called them. I am updating my review. After the issues with the video recording of my lateral line, the owner came back out, revideoed the line and returned my check. They gave me a reasonable quote to replace part of the line and shortly thereafter scheduled and completed the work. I am satisfied with the work. I purchased an older home that needs quite a bit of updating of systems. Compared to other contractors I have hired to replace the roof, the furnace, and like work, this was not the greatest experience. But they did ultimately complete the job at a fair price. read more

We had hoped to stay trenchless, and ended up needing to trench because this is such a tricky area with very little slope. DO NOT USE THESE GUYS. They provided an estimate for a sewer lateral repair, submitted the plans to the city then did different work than what they submitted to save money. They didn't pass inspection and then wanted more money to finish the job properly. The city inspector forced them to finish the job and adjusted the plan so we could pass because they were taking so long to finish (over 2 months with open trenches). When we paid the bill they wanted 2k more than what the estimate was simply because they screwed up. This company is a total bait and switch. They city is considering not allowing them to do any more work because of their poor work, time to completion, & the bait and switch. Use Trenchless Titans. Did 2 other sewers with Gerry Hardiman and he was great, on time and on budget. Save yourself some time and grief. read more

I agree with James D. We had an amazing customer service experience with Pipe Spy/Myles. The plumbing in our basement laundry room that drains to the main system was partially blocked. The house is from the 1920s, so it was particularly tricky to diagnose. One plumber looked at it for about 30 minutes, failed to fix it (still charged us of course), and said the only solution was to dig up the concrete in the basement and replace the pipe. A $1500 job minimum. A friend suggested Pipe Spy, cause they have a cool snake camera that helps pinpoint the exact problem. Well, because of the old system, it was not easy to even get the camera into our pipes, but these guys would NOT give up. They finally found the problem and, while they agreed the long-term solution was to replace the pipe, they agreed to try a temporary fix. They gave me a not-to-exceed quote for that work (that alone is an amazing thing from a plumber), and persisted in attempting different ways to achieve the temporary fix even though I know they went way over their estimate for that work. We now have a functional laundry room again, and can time the more serious repair to coincide with other work, which will save us a lot of money. Amazing service, amazing work. I would absolutely use them again. read more

Miles showed up on time and with every thing he need. Ran a camera down the line and found that a large section of 100 year old Terra cote line had been cracked by trees growing on my neighbors property and the sewer line runs through that property. They dug up the both ends of the line and ran a new plastic pipe inside to old line. Problem solved. Very fair pricing and excellent work. Of course the pipe was most the way down a hill side so access was miserable and every thing was hand carried down to the job site..Highly recommended read more

I thought Pipe Spy was only for videotaping the inside of your sewer lines, how wrong I was. We've had a drainage problem at our house for about 6 months and I've called out all of the other plumbing companies, Roto-Rooter, RouterMan, each costing $200 - $300 dollars and it wasn't until Pipe Spy came out and within two hours found the problem, offered us a solution and helped us get it repaired the same day and did it for far less than the other two. I didn't know that Pipe Spy could to do all of the repairs. They are now my GO TO plumbing company! read more

Typically, when obtaining bids from contractors, there are many unknowns about the final costs - will the actual expenses match the bid?, will the project be completed on time?, - will the company representative be available and responsive to my phone calls and inquiries?, - will the contractor's work pass the city inspector's review? James B. at Pipe Spy fulfilled these requirements and provided good services with excellent communication throughout the project. We had obtained other bids, but James B. was the most attentive and consistent with his work from the beginning of the job to its completion. I was impressed by his follow up after payment to verify that our landscape features had been restored to our satisfaction. Also, he was on time for all appointments. TL;DR - PipeSpy (particularly Myles) was amazingly thorough, worked in our best interest (saving us thousands), answered all my wife's questions (pretty important :) ), and solved our plumbing issue. Full Story: Within a few days of moving in, we realized our home's connection to the main sewer was clogged, causing sewage to overflow at the cleanout point. We called another plumbing company, who unsuccessfully attempted to clear the pipe of the blockage. As a result, the other company were of the opinion that the line from the house to the road needed to be replaced at a cost of up to $8000. Thats when we called Myles at PipeSpy. Myles came to the house with his camera while I was at work and talked to my wife. She was very impressed with his patience, particularly his abilities to clearly explain the situation and answer all of her questions. Unfortunately though, Myles was unable to see the issue with the camera, because of the blockage. Later, when I called to discuss the estimate for a threnchless replacement, Myles offered to come by one more time to try and snake the line. When Myles snaked the line again, he was able to successfully remove the blockages, and in the end saved us thousands of dollars. We will definitely be calling Myles and PipeSpy again the future for our plumbing needs. read more

I didn't have any luck getting work done from Pipe Spy either. Their quote for sewer repair was great and the guy who gave me the quote seemed really helpful. Unfortunately, I emailed in the signed work request, contacted on several occasions, and had the hardest time reaching anyone. Finally through a random call in the day, I reached Myles. We scheduled for the next month. When the time came, they were so backed up due to rain, it had to be rescheduled. it still didn't happen by the end of January. I had to go with someone else, so I called Bragg Plumbing and they took care of me right away (within 10 days!). Pipe Spy might be good, but they didn't have the time to do my work, so I'll never know. I should have taken it as a sign that I didn't get emails or calls back and booked with someone else from the beginning. I am so disappointed because I wanted to support a small business in my neighborhood. read more

After being told my clogged sewer line was broken and would require an $8,000 replacement, I called Pipe Spy to ask them to video the line. They said to call SF Sewer Dept. first to see if they could clear the line for free. They did so, solving the problem. Pipe Spy made no money on this. Afterwards, I asked them to video the now cleared line. They showed me a few offset joints which might over time cause a clog, but no breaks in the pipe and nothing which requires immediate attention. Thanks to them I didn't spend $8,000 on a new sewer line. Honesty, skill, and integrity are in short supply in this business, so I'm happy to have encountered Pipe Spy. read more

The preject had several compliations, not Pipe Spys fault, but it was all finished in a very professional manner. the crew was easy to deal with and worked very hard.
