Ash was helping me out, he was very patient with my questions, and very knowledgeable in the products, with the pros and cons of each one I was interested in. This place is awesome, my favorite. I love the cats that hang out in the store. Amazingly Cheap Pipes! You can get a little glass hitter with some color for like $5. I bought my volcano here ($500 vaporizer) as I prefer not to shop online for and have such things shipped to me. I had been wanting one for ages but never saw it on the shelf at a head shop before I came to SF. The price was very reasonable. I opted for no black bag and the staff and I joked about how many friends I was going make walking down haight st with the thing. (P.S. if you want to vaporize don't bother with the little wooden boxes, volcano is tha shiznit, worth every penny. You can put dirty old herb or shake in it and get amazingly tasty bags of vapor. With good herb its even more amazing.) read more

Nice shop in the Haight with decent prices. I've been in four or five times, and have usually been helped by either of the tall bearded guys. I can't remember their names, but really knowledable and nice. The last two times I've been in no one asked if I needed help and seemed more interested in playing on their phones than customer service. So 50/50 chance you'll get great service or the brush off...three stars for now. read more

Pipe Dreams is a piece of San Francisco history. The oldest business on Haight Street and the oldest smoke shop in San Francisco - very cool. People who work there are wonderful. They introduced me to the Omicron electronic vaporizer, which is one of the coolest products I have ever used. They are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and fun to talk to. Great selection of glass pipes, but did I mention the Omicron? Cost $140, but allows you to get 400 6 second tokes of a single gram of hash oil, so the savings in hash oil will pay for the vaporizer. There is no smell from the Omicron, so you can treat yourself to a toke in a public place and no one will notice. Amazing! BTW, I am a functional pothead. Smoke everyday - have for years. And the founder of 2 software companies and an owner of a winery in Napa Valley. I am a criminal by the laws of many states - fortunately in California, I am a patient. Pipe Dreams has some wonderful hand blown glass pipes and displays collections from specific blowers/artists together. read more

This place is kind of a ishthole, I think they have somehow miraculously held onto the lease for this spot for 40 some-odd years because they know they're the first head shop coming up the block so they can prey on clueless tourists who, Pipe Dreams is the first shop they see so this is where they begin shopping- before they realize there's about 20 other shops on the street that are bigger and better. LIsten, I can only see those stupid animal and simpsons-shaped pieces in so many head shops before I realize they're no special thing. This place has some "local artist-made" displays, which are ridiculously priced and not the slightest bit intricate, but in general the shop has mostly cheap, generic pieces. Not only this, but the girl working there is a hag. She nagged and nagged me about my ID, although I didn't bring it in with me, I don't look young. I just don't. And she bitchily told me about three times on my way out that I need to leave the shop. Little did she know, the friends I were with had actually been looking to buy something, but they all left also. read more

its hard to decide between this and a certain other headshop, but i find myself stopping in here first (and leaving satisfied) more often than not. once you get to know the people, they are really quite nice (shoots, even if you're new); so nice, that i was able to return an (unused) waterpipe without a receipt! they just got a couple of roors in, if that's your bag, but they sport some exceptional local glass as well (even a few blowers that KILL roor in quality). Between this, sunshine and distractions, there really is no reason to support the industry ruining garbage-glass-peddling stores such as puff puff pass. they dont even have local shit in there. adorable kitty too! read more

This place is great. Best smoke shop I've been to in SF. This is mainly because of the staff knowing what the hell they're talking about. Last time I went in, the gentleman advised me on portable vaporizors. He sold me a Launch Box and it works great!! But what made it a good experience was his ability to tell me about all the nuances of the device. He also told me about the omnicron, but I don't have access to hash on a regular basis. Came here over the weekend on the advice of a friend and I'm glad I did. Being from Orange County, every smoke shop in soCal seems to claim they carry hand blown pieces and much of it turns out to be cheap, factory glass without much put into them. I guess if all you're looking for is a basic piece, then there's no issue, but for me, I don't mind spending a little extra on something truly one of a kind. It's a small shop and there was only one guy working, but he came off as very knowledgeable about their inventory and was nice to answer all my questions without getting the sense that I was bugging him. They had a good selection and also exactly what I was looking for, quality stuff by local artists/specialty glass makers. Walked out with a very beautiful piece which I thought was fairly priced and when the guy realized I was from out of town, he gave me a discount and threw in a bunch of goodies (papers,pipe cleaners, poker, lighter). Without doubt, the best shop I've been to, well, anywhere. Quality inventory, fair prices, great customer service. What more do you need? read more
