I've been using the PVTA B23 bus to commute between Holyoke Transit Center and my classes. Overall, the route is perfect for getting me where I need to go and dropping me off at convenient locations. However, there's a certain issue that I feel needs addressing: the 2:30 PM bus consistently departs about 10 minutes later than scheduled. While the delay doesn't impact my day, it's frustrating and something that could be improved. I hope PVTA looks into this issue as it's something that needs to be fixed in the future. read more

Update. It's one thing for the bus to be late and even completely no-show (we've gotten used to that) but it's an entirely different matter when my daughter's bus is 45 minutes late after I was given a different eta (was told the bus was a block away, then 1/2 hour later, the bus was still miles away!). Adding on another passenger to the route last-minute AFTER the time my daughter was supposed to be picked up AND lying about it to us is beyond rude and inappropriate. The cherry on the sundae today was the driver (who I never met before) pulling up to block my driveway and and her ignoring my nicely-worded request to pull up another 20 feet so that A. My daughter can walk down the walkway to board the bus and B. So that I can ACTUALLY DRIVE OUT OF MY OWN DRIVEWAY. The bus driver refused to pull up to the walk way; like it's SO HARD to drive 20 more feet??? You can BET that when I tried to get out, I HONKED my horn long enough for her to finally move. Talk about some IGNORANT people who are just miserable and who have NO BUSINESS having any connection to vulnerable populations. All of this was just flat out bullying. read more

Rating is for the same issues everyone else is saying and the drivers are horrible drivers. They might just be very immature drivers I don't either way nothing we can do about it and nothing the company will do so it won't change. Pretty sad actually. read more

I usually ride the MBTA commuter rail from Boston to Worcester, and then the B79 from Worcester to Amherst. Unfortunately, the MBTA commuter rail was running 20 minutes late. Not only that, but the Worcester station is getting renovated so the train stops further from the actual station. I would expect the B79 bus to wait or at least be aware that passengers will be arriving to their bus late (as their schedule is also relying on the MBTA's commuter rail schedule). I arrived at the bus stop and decided to wait incase the bus was late. After waiting for 30 minutes, I concluded the bus has already left. Customer service was also not helpful as they mentioned that they can't track the bus on real time and can only refer to the schedule on a pdf. The Transit app also consist of inaccurate bus arrival times. I recommend having a backup plan due to the poor scheduling of the PVTA. read more

The drivers are lackadaisical in their responsibilities to say the least. There is not one route that is on time. I mean how do you mess up driving in a circle. I get it I really do, mistakes happen but this is a daily occurrence city wide. read more

Bus 1661 I witnessed a very old lady get on the bus which took nearly four minutes, tge bus driver did not help her get on just sat there starring out the front window and every now and then. Once she gets on the bus all the Men sitting on the bus remained sitting and made Her stand. Not one single Gentleman on the bus. Got on a bus that was supposed to get me to the event I'd been excited for all week 40 minutes early. The bus ended up getting there an hour after it was supposed to. Since I missed the event, I'm using the time to give the bus a one-star review instead. Hitchhiking probably would have been a more reliable method of transportation. read more

The PVTA is the stankiest nastiest transportation authority I've ever used, and thats coming from someone who normally takes New York's MTA. As a student I heavily rely on it and often times I find myself screwed over by sudden schedule/service changes. They will literally change up the bus times without giving any notification. Example: I planned to take the B43 at 1:02 to get to Northhampton Station. ETA was roughly 1:35 pm, giving me ample time to catch my train at 2:00. Out of nowhere, the bus schedule changed and the departure was delayed by an entire half an hour, leaving me screwed over. Probably going to rely on uber or a taxi service moving forward. read more

Having lived in Western MA for about 10 years, PVTA has become a staple for us in regard to public transportation. I originally started riding these buses while at UMass. UMass Transit has a great set of drivers and the buses were always on time unless traffic was a problem. Now that we are no longer students (ya, we're old now) we typically ride the buses in the Northampton area. Some drivers are kinder than other, but overall they are professional and on time. The best part of this bus system is that you can get between a ton of different towns/cities easily with an all day pass. Overall, we love the service and will keep taking the buses when we don't feel like driving ourselves. read more

This public transportation is literally the worst the drivers will literally drive right by you while you're waiting for the bus. The busses are always late or early making it inconsistent and unreliable. The drivers for the g1 will literally stop at 5 town plaza for a 10-15 min break every single time they do the route. You would think with MGM coming to Springfield they would have more buses running since there's more traffic and the city is growing but no it's the same as it was 15 years ago. Why is there 2 bus stops on fort pleasant on the exact same block ? A company run by idiots and idiot drivers the absolute worst. read more

The PVTA drivers are the worst drivers on the road. They just pull back into traffic without looking and cut you off. We all had to merge into one lane on State Street, and the driver of the PTA bus wouldn't let anyone in and just kept giving a thumbs up sign. She was rude and willing to cause an accident rather than be a considerate driver. They need some training on care and courtesy. read more

The PVTA is a garbage public transportation system. The employees are rude. The prices keep going up. And the service sucks. The buses are always either early or late, making them an unreliable source of transportation. If you're relying on the PVTA, your only options are to be ten minutes late to wherever you're going because the bus is late or an hour late because the bus whizzed past your stop ten minutes before it was scheduled to be there and now you have to wait for the next one. You won't receive any sort of apology or acknowledgment of this flaw from the PVTA, either, as they don't respond to formal complaints filed through their website. And the best part is that you have the privilege of paying more than you ever have to not receive the service as promised, as the PVTA has just recently increased their fares! Long story short: If you're considering using the PVTA for any reason, do yourself a favor and don't. read more

I'm employed in agawam Massachusetts at Six flags New England and I rely on this service to get me to work and they are over charging me it should not be 5.00 each way it should be 3.50 like all the other agawam locations they go to . Despite having a car, I have relied on the PVTA for transportation fairly frequently during the course of over four years living in the Pioneer Valley. I lived in Amherst and took classes at UMass and Smith College, so I used the B43 bus the most. Therefore, I am most knowledgeable about that bus route and will make it the focus of my review. The B43 bus runs every 20 minutes during the academic year, and caters primarily to Five College students (although many locals make use of it as well). It's free to ride with a college ID ($1.25 otherwise), and makes stops at Amherst College, Amherst Center, UMass, the Hampshire Mall, Walmart, Northampton Center, and Smith College. The route itself basically runs along Route 9. There was a stop right outside my apartment building - convenient! I do wish that this bus in particular ran more frequently during the evenings, weekends, and summers, but sadly it does not (it comes every hour or so as opposed to every 20 minutes). The bus drivers are experienced and safe, albeit unfriendly. The PVTA buses are a combination of older, less comfortable vehicles and newer ones that feature an automated voice telling you the stop that is approaching, which reminds me somewhat of being on the subway in a large city. Overall, the PVTA is a decent public transportation service that was immensely helpful to me when I didn't feel like driving. read more

The PVTA is a big part of my life unfortunately. As a student without a car I take the PVTA a lot to visit other colleges. For a while I thought I read the bus schedules incorrectly but actually the busses don't follow any sort of schedule? I have been stranded by PVTA many times especially over the college's winter break. I'm beginning to think that the buses have some sort of deal with uber because I constantly have to call them instead of riding the bus home! Bleh! read more
