Came here expecting a quick bite, but the wait was longer than advertised. We were told 10-15 minutes, which turned into closer to 20-25 minutes. Not the worst thing ever, but it's frustrating when expectations aren't set accurately--especially if you're short on time. The food itself was okay, but pretty expensive for the portion size. For what we paid, I expected either a larger serving or something more memorable flavor-wise. Unfortunately, neither really stood out. Overall, not terrible, but between the longer wait and the price-to-portion ratio, I don't see myself coming back unless there are improvements. read more

I used to go to this cute little place called Pinto on Adams Ave in Normal Heights. Out of curiosity, I looked up my old review and clicked on the link for their website, and that's how I found Pinto Thai Bistro. Thought maybe they relocated, but no, this is a family run business that has been open for 12 years! Dang, I must be living under a rock! I can't believe Erica P didn't tell me about this place! They are located in a small strip mall with ample parking!!! Friendly greeting when I walked in. The dining room is cozy, but I was getting food to go. I ordered the usual as a good test: fresh spring rolls with tofu, panang curry with chicken, pad see ew with chicken, and garlic pepper stir fry with beef. The spring rolls were great! Nice fresh vegetables and that peanut sauce...Mmmmm. Delicious panang which is my favorite! The pad thai was good as well, though not enough bean sprouts. The pad see ew was very good! I really liked the garlic pepper stir fry but should have said mild, cause my mouth was on fire! Each dish tasted different and I felt was more authentic to Thai cuisine. My nephew's wife said it tasted like the food she grew up with in Thailand. I also really appreciated that the way everything was packed to go. Definitely worth coming to and seriously, one of the best parts is easy parking! It took me the same amount of time if I went to that other place where you're circling around and trying to find parking. read more

I have always enjoyed their vegan cashew vegetable lunch special with my hubby. However, when coming for dinner with my vegan friend tonight, I was told that the cashew vegetable dish has never been vegan and that fish sauce is used in the dish. I was told an alternate sauce could be used, and when I asked for the alternate sauce, my dish came with a few pieces of chicken scattered in the sauce. So disappointing! Don't come here if you are vegetarian or vegan because they clearly don't know how to accommodate. read more

One of my favorite places. The lunch specials are the best. The mixed vegetables with shrimp is my go to! My mom got the Thai basil noodles and while she didn't like them she was glad to try something new. The Thai iced tea is the perfect drink, not to sweet. The lunch special comes with a soup and it was so good, a little spicy with vegetables and cubes of tofu. The service is amazing and the restaurant is small but it doesn't feel small, it's really cozy. read more

I came for lunch on a weekday. It was not busy. The parking lot and restaurant are small. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken lunch special. It was a really good deal. The lunch special came with soup, salad, potsticker, and egg roll. Everything tasted good. I asked for the hot spicy level but felt it was not hot at all. My favorite Thai spot in town - small, cozy, and always welcoming. It feels family-owned (and likely is), and the service is consistently kind and attentive. Their Pad Thai noodles are my go-to - especially with lots of lime squeezed over the top. I'm a total wimp when it comes to spice; my tongue simply can't handle it, so I always order zero heat - and everything still tastes amazing. My boyfriend goes for the curries with medium spice and swears they're perfect. I also love their pineapple fried rice - sweet, flavorful, and just the right texture. Brought my 10-year-old great-niece here last night. She loves fried rice, but I wasn't sure she'd go for the Thai version - she did, and she ate a good portion. Can't believe that Chun P and I have lived in Tierrasanta for 2 years and we just finally tried Pinto Thai. We arrived at on a weeknight and were welcomed kindly, only one other diner was in the shop but lots of folks were coming to-and-fro getting things to-go! Pa-nang curry was a bit spicy for my wimpy taste level, but the Massaman curry was just right. Thai veggie egg rolls were a tasty appetizer! The single cuisines in which restaurants are most likely to racially profile people are Indian and Thai ones, in my experience. This isn't a bad thing. It is a reflection to the history of these restaurants learning that most white people would find the typical preparation of many of their dishes to be way too spicy. This is why good Thai restaurants sometimes make it clear to phone takeout customers that medium spicy is 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. But many just assume that White customers don't want spicy food at all. They have seen dishes returned or rejected because of "excessive" spiciness. Pinto Thai in Tierrasanta is a classic example of this. Whenever I order pad see yew and specify medium spiciness, it is bland as hell. I added Sriracha to my last order. And it will be my last order. Sukhothai on Adams Avenue and Koon Thai on Convoy aren't that far, and they don't have this problem. I don't mean Pinto Thai ill. I like their panang curry very much. But the pad see yew history I have had is disappointing. read more

There's never a wait when I come, but it's definitely underrated. It's my go-to thai restaurant. The service here is amazing. The staff is all super nice. They constantly check up on you and are very accommodating. The food here is great as well. The spice level is on a scale from 1-10 and it is strong so be careful for what you ask for! Pinto Thai is a little hidden gem in Tierrasanta. In my opinion, one of the best restaurants for Thai food. My favorite dish here is the Pad Thai, but I switched it up today for See-Ewe Noodle and it was delish! I ordered it at a level 8 spice, the server brought me more chili flakes and chili sauce... just in case I wanted more heat! Lol I also ordered Papaya Salad, although I prefer Lao style, this was okay enough to satisfy my craving. The parking lot is small and gets packed at times, which is why I opted to take a late lunch. I've only tried one lunch special here and it was the chicken pad Thai. You have a choice of ordering it no spice, mild, medium, and spicy. I ordered mild. It had a good little kick...perfect. Flavors were delicious. The lunch plate came with salad and two small fried veggie egg rolls. I asked if I could sub soup for the salad. It was a vegetable soup in a weak, tasteless broth. Won't order that again. The egg rolls and pad Thai were excellent. Service was friendly. Very small dining room. Next time, would rather order food to go instead of eat there. I'm truly sorry about this review but the customer service was just awful! We started off choosing a Thai restaurant that some of my coworkers liked to come to so we all decided to try it out. The business was in a small parking area so parking was a little difficult, no to mention most of the spots were only 30 min parking. We were seated near the door but it was a still a comfortable spot for our group. Once we were seated we reviewed the menu and then ordered. We all ordered the lunch special and one order of cheesy crab wantons. Our soup came out and then everyone's food except mine. I was patient and waited and told my friends to just eat (since I was a fast eater anyways) and just sat there. After 15 minutes of waiting a plate was set in front of me, I was excited to eat! Then the waitress grabbed the plate, was a little hesitant looked at me and then looked at the other waitress and then looked at me and then back again and then said sorry and took the plate away. I was like Then another 5-10 minutes went bye and my food later came out. It was delicious but then once the group got the check I was expecting a discount or maybe even a free plate. Nothing! I then walked up and stated "Can you do anything with the bill since it took nearly over 20 minutes to get my food after my friends?" She then stated ok I'll give you a discount. Later we got the bill and saw my plate was taken off the bill. AWESOME RIGHT? Wrong! We all used Venmo to split the bill, then once we gave the bill back with our friends card we noticed the price picked back up. I walked up to the register and asked what was going on. She said she separated the bill. She took off my plate and gave me a 10% discount which took of 32 cents and placed my bill behind the other bill. She then realized there was only one card so charged everything together! We asked to speak to the manager but she stated the manager wasn't there! read more

I completed a hike in the area and then ordered some takeout here. Time scheduled to be ready was 2:15-2:35. I arrived at 2:12 and it was ready. Bonus! Got to the car and checked out the order to ensure correctness. Everything was correct. I ordered pad Thai with chicken spicy level medium and vegetable wraps with extra peanut sauce. Peanut sauce was fresh. Warm even! Was very flavorful. Vegetable wraps were lovely and crunchy.i do wish they offered chicken vegetable wraps, but that's not an option. The pad Thai was medium spiced and tasted perfect. It came with a side of lime & they honored my request for no green onion. I do wish they were more generous with their portion of chicken.
