We moved to Scottsdale about six or seven years ago. My wife did a ton of research before picking a…read moredentist and she chose S&L with Dr. David Ngo. I went with a different place at first because it was closer to where we were living. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I ended up having a bad experience there and finally switched to S&L. Dr. Ngo and his team fixed everything the other dentist had messed up. Right away I knew my wife had been right all along. I've been going to S&L for four years now and they really are the best dental office I've ever been to. Dr. Ngo has removed all my old metal fillings and replaced them with modern ones, plus he's done a couple of crowns for me. Everything looks and feels great. My wife has also been extremely happy with all the work he's done for her too. I'm almost 55 and I've seen a bunch of top-rated, highly recommended dentists over the years, both here in the US and a couple in Mexico. Nothing else comes close. One thing I have to mention is how good Dr. Ngo is with people who hate dental visits or get nervous about pain. His work is excellent, but it's the way he takes care of you that makes the biggest difference. For example, the way he does Novocaine shots is unbelievable. You barely feel it at all. Every dentist out there should learn his technique. With all that said, I do think the front office experience could be better. If the customer service up front matched Dr. David's clearly caring vibe, it would be 100% perfect. If you're looking for a truly professional dentist who gives five-star care and service, this is the place. Dr. David Ngo at S&L is the only one I would recommend without any hesitation.

I chose this dentist because of all the amazing reviews, and so I thought I'd detail my experience…read morebecause it wasn't as perfect as the reviews make it seem. They seem very knowledgable and seem to know what they're doing when it comes to dentistry, but my concerns are more in the administration side of things. I changed jobs earlier this year and got new insurance with a common major insurance provider, and I needed to get a procedure done. I asked them what the procedure would cost and they gave me a quote, which was already expensive, and I paid that at the time of service. However, when I came in for a routine cleaning 6 months later, they said the insurance "didn't pay as much as they thought" and stuck me with MORE THAN DOUBLE their original quote. I looked into the insurance claim and called the insurance company myself, and the insurance company paid exactly what was according to their billing schedule. There were no surprises. I think the office knew (or should have known, because they're the professionals and this is what they do) that this would happen, and they dishonestly gave me a lower quote, did the service, and then stuck me with the even more expensive bill (but to their credit, they did give me a lower price than what they billed to insurance, but it was still VERY expensive that I was not prepared for). Additionally, I distinctly recall the procedure treated four teeth, but then on the bill and insurance claim, they say they treated six. Unfortunately, I don't really know how to argue this, especially because it happened so long ago. I suspect they didn't contact me about this issue earlier for this exact reason. Again, dishonest. Another concern with this dentist is that it's unprofessional that they use Zelle to get around credit/debit card transaction fees. Every merchant has to deal with card transaction fees, they shouldn't be up-charging that cost and they shouldn't be using Zelle, which is supposed to just be a peer-to-peer payment network. Lastly, as much as I love dogs, I don't think it's hygienic that they keep a dog in their office. In all, I started off loving this dentist, and very disappointed that they turned out to be this unprofessional and dishonest. I'm sad I'll have to go elsewhere from now on.

I previously had all of my upper teeth redone by Dr. Willman and invested a significant amount of…read moremoney in the process. She did outstanding work, and I truly appreciated her care. Dr Willman is no longer with the practice. Huge, enormous, gigantic loss for Pima Dental. About four months ago, I returned because I needed to molars extracted. Let me note that after the extractions I had fully intended beginning work on all my lower teeth, fully expecting to make another substantial investment. This practice is not inexpensive... in my view it is extremely overpriced (especially after I share what happened below). I was prepared to pay another substantial amount to complete my treatment. I did miss one appointment due to a personal emergency. I attempted to call but was unable to get through, and at the time my focus understandably had to be on the emergency. At my next scheduled appointment, I drove over 45 minutes from north Phoenix. I arrived and had X-rays done, and then met with a dentist who informed me that two teeth would need to be extracted by an oral surgeon and that the procedure could not be done there. While the dentist was courteous, the appointment ultimately resulted in a two-hour round trip simply to be referred elsewhere. I wish this had been communicated to me beforehand. As I was leaving, I was stunned when I was told not to leave and was informed that I owed a $50 missed-appointment fee. Mandy, the office manager, whom I had worked with before made it be known that I needed to pay $50. What disappointed me most was not the amount itself, but the complete lack of empathy or discretion--especially toward a long-standing patient who had already invested heavily in the practice and was prepared to invest significantly more. I understand that offices have cancellation policies. However, patient relationships should involve more than strict enforcement of fees. In my experience, this practice places profits above patient goodwill and patient satisfaction. Between the high costs of treatment and the rigid handling of this situation, it left me feeling that policies mattered more than people. As a business owner myself, I believe long-term trust, empathy, and relationships are what sustain a practice--not nickel-and-diming loyal patients. Unfortunately, this experience has led me to seek care elsewhere for the remainder of my treatment, and I will not be recommending this office moving forward ever again! I hope this feedback is taken constructively. My initial experience here was excellent, attributed primarily to Dr Willman, which makes this outcome all the more disappointing.

I'm no stranger to root canals and I've spent more hours in a dental chair than I care to admit, this was, hands down, the best root canal experience I've ever had. The office is immaculate, the staff is friendly and efficient, but most importantly, the doctor was straightforward and honest with me. One of my molars needed a retreatment on a root canal that had been done 20 years earlier. Before starting, he explained that, given its condition, it probably wouldn't last more than a couple of years. I chose to move forward anyway, and I'm so grateful he was honest from the beginning because it allowed me to be mentally prepared when I eventually did lose the tooth. The consultation and treatment here are not inexpensive, but if it's within your budget, you simply can't put a price on a quick, painless procedure and a specialist you can genuinely trust. After a long and complex dental journey involving more than 30 providers, I especially value honesty, and that's exactly what I found here.

I did not approve this charge, nor was I notified in advance. Additionally, there remains an unresolved credit related to unused X-ray services that I never proceeded with, which I had previously raised. Regardless of any internal billing disagreement, charging a patient's credit card without current authorization is unacceptable. I am now having to spend time disputing a charge that should never have occurred. I would strongly encourage prospective patients to closely monitor billing practices and ensure all financial matters are clearly resolved and documented before leaving this office

He lets it take effect while making small conversation, never seeming rushed. By the time he fully numbs you it's over and done with before you can freak yourself out. Seriously I am a baby and it didn't hurt at all, which let me tell you, it has previously. They are not overly progressive (into holistic dentistry). I mentioned that I am on a mission to have all of my amalgam removed when asking about what type of composite they used and the lady at the front desk commented that there is no proof that this prevents anything and she still has all of hers blah blah blah...hmmmm, I wasn't asking for advice. However, they are fast, efficient, and to the point. The assistant is awesome and the dr. rarely has to even ask her for anything. It is a "well-oiled" machine between the two. They don't double book so you are never waiting "your turn". It's nice to walk in, get the work done, and walk out. I was told and hour each visit and I walked out early once, and promptly on time the second. Very fair pricing and excellent coverage with my delta dental plan. P.s. They used some sort of bleaching solution and it splashed on my clothing...not a big deal but I did wear white the second visit.

He said I needed an endodontist and referred me to Dr. O'Connell. Although he did not have any openings in his schedule, Dr.O'Connell cut his lunch short to see me. What a great guy! He was friendly and professional. Got me numbed up and started drilling. Turned out I had a cracked tooth and it was infected. Unfortunately, it could not be saved and Dr. O'Connell said I needed to see an oral surgeon to have it removed. He called around and found someone to take me right away so that I wouldn't need to be numbed up again. Then his receptionist, Chris, put me in her car and gave me a ride to the oral surgeon's office. What great service! I highly recommend them. Scottsdale knows how to treat its visitors.

However, if preserving your own tooth is important, run from this dingy office and find a doctor with advanced equipment who is focused on saving teeth through proper endodontic treatment rather than wrongfully diagnosing a vertical tooth fracture and insisting that extraction and an implant are your only options. I'm so glad I trusted my intuition, sought a second opinion, and saved my tooth. They even sent my CBCT scan to a radiologist who also incorrectly stated that I had a crack and that the prognosis for the tooth was poor. There was no vertical crack. The real issue was a short crown with leakage underneath it. After only two weeks of treatment, I was already showing signs of bone regeneration, and the tooth was successfully treated with a root canal performed under a microscope using a laser and the latest available techniques. Save your natural teeth, not a couple of dollars. Your natural teeth are far more valuable. Otherwise, you may end up paying even more for unnecessary extractions and implants. Stay away from this place!
