Anyhow, it was a hot SAT but nice with the golf cart, I wouldn't recommend walking on this course, quite hilly indeed, on a hot day it's a no no. I know giving 5 stars is not correct, but I liked the golf course layout and the price is quite attractive. I'm sure if it has the whole 18 holes instead of 11 holes, it would charge much more. Some of the fairways are spotty because lack of grass, but the grass parts are very nice and great IMO. Hit the fairways and you're ok. The green grass are thick so it's extremely slow, the speed is not correct, although many greens are slopped but they won't roll as they should so putt harder. The sands are soft and perfect, I only got in a bunker once so can't tell about others. So, we played first 9 holes with white, then came back 10 with black, when it went to 16 from the same T as 7 then it split to the left fairway to a new hole 16 which was nice and up hill as most of the holes on this course. Then the 17th holes T using the same green as #8 is beautiful. We love these 2 holes, #8 and #17, people can drive to the green on the 17, I don't drive long but I was 100 yard to the green. If you don't hit straight, then you may find the hills and rocks not friendly, the fairways green are great IMHO. Beginners may find this golf course challenging, but if you use the soft fairways as practice then it's great, don't score, just play. The greens are slow so easier to putt NOT to go all over the place. I think the golf course is being renovated, for $25 a game with cart, I would come back and can't wait to see when it's totally renovated. It's further than Coyote, but less crowded. The round was 4hr and 15 minutes on a SAT was quite good unlike many other golf courses. Look at the pictures I took and the layout of the holes to have some ideas of the layout, fairways and greens.

So, I'll happily give it 5 stars for exactly what it is. I'll also enthusiastically give 5 stars for what they do for the youth of Salinas. I remember when Salinas shut down the old course to build a parking lot for the Salinas Sports Complex thinking what a dumb mistake that was. I suppose, out of that mistake came this little course. I remember it opening and came once or twice. In the last couple years maybe once. But, I recall always leaving feeling like it was a pretty fun time. It is a surprisingly tricky little course, they did a good job of utilizing the space they were given. There are a few long par 4 hole, but more fun are some of the extremely short par 3s. They did an excellent job of diversifying the green size, utilizing elevation, and natural environment to make it more fun and challenging. To add to the experience, they do a lot for the youth in Salinas. Salinas notoriously has very little to offer the youth, so any organization that tries to encourage kids to be active, healthy, and at the same time teaches values, I'm a fan of. I personally love seeing kids out here playing, the coaches/instructors are extremely friendly and patient with them, and the kids are learning multiple skills congruently. Kudos for the First Tee program. Lastly, did I mention ridiculously low priced? $10 during the week, $15 on the weekend. Come on, you can't get golf cheaper.

I've been golfing here for years, but after this experience, I won't be coming back. We showed up…read morejust four minutes before our tee time--literally walking up as the clock turned--and were told we couldn't rent a golf cart because their policy requires arriving five minutes early. Instead of working with us or offering any flexibility, they flat-out refused. What made it worse is that I had to come up with my own solutions just to keep the day moving, including asking if we could push our tee time back. They eventually delayed us 45 minutes anyway, but there was no effort on their end to help or accommodate--everything felt like it was on us to figure out. When we finally got out on the course, everything was backed up. We tried to keep pace by skipping a few holes, thinking we could make it up later--especially since it's a nine-hole course and we could've easily replayed holes 1 and 2. Instead, we were escorted off the course. The whole situation could have been handled with basic customer service and common sense. Instead, it felt rigid and unwelcoming. The staff seemed inexperienced and lacked the ability to problem-solve or take care of regular customers. Really disappointing experience all around.

Superintendent Tom deserves a special shoutout--he goes above and beyond managing not only the maintenance side of things but also helps out in the pro shop, juggling everything thrown his way from what we witnessed that day. We played here during a tournament this week. While the course does have a few rough patches, overall it's a really fun and challenging layout. The greens are recuperating quite nicely from aerification work done. The experience was mostly great, with one unfortunate exception. We had a run-in with one of the greenskeepers--an older woman in a club cart who came flying down the path right as we were about to tee off. She jumped the curb in front of us without any regard for what was happening on the tee box. We tried to flag her down, but she responded with an angry fist gesture and kept going. We later found out from the group ahead of us that they had a similar experience with her. ( hole #14 ) It was disappointing to see such a lack of golf etiquette, especially from someone working on the course. A little respect for the players would go a long way. Hopefully, management addresses this behavior--either through training or reconsidering her role. Despite that one incident, every other greenskeeper was professional and respectful ( turning off machines or waiting for play ) we had a lovely time and are already looking forward to our next round here!

Here are my criteria for how I rate a dirt rack track:…read more How is the seating/bleachers? Wooden bleachers with back support. Somewhat comfortable; however, Merced Speedway has same back support, but more leg room. How is the food? For a track, you will be surprised here. They have BBQ pit going with burgers, tri-tip sandwiches, grilled chicken sandwiches, dogs, and even chicken on a stick - my personal favorite. Of course they also have the typical junk food, but I appreciate that they went the extra mile to offer the fans something yummy. If you're in the pits, heads up - same selection is not available. Is outside food/beverage alllowed? Surprisingly yes. I still appreciate though that they let outside food in. Yes, the snack bar is good, but as a mom of little ones, I like the choice to bring in healthy little snacks for them without feeling guilty. How are the ticket prices? Fair. Sometimes they are a bit high depending on the cars racing though. Check the schedule for pricing in advance! What is the pit access like after the races? This is one of my least favorite things. The parking lot for fans is pretty far away from the track and even farther from the pits. So you can walk to the pits after the races (gate by track near restrooms will open) OR you can go get your car after the races and drive it in. If you walk, you will just have that much farther to walk back to your car once you are done visiting your favorite driver(s). How is the weather? COLD. No matter how warm the day is you can count on a cold evening unless is a RARE heat wave. I would highly suggest always dressing in warm clothes for this track and/or bringing blankets not only to sit on but to for bundling up. How are the announcers? Good, they sound professional and seem to know what they are talking about. As with any racing event, I always appreciate when and if they will explain things assuming there will be first time fans in the stands. How is the flow of racing? Decent, once they get going. How is the parking lot? Lot is FAR away and there is no place for handicapped parking clearly marked. Or if they have it, it's always gone. I have a relative with a permanent sticker and also my mom has a handicapped card as well and the parking is always an ordeal. If you need close parking plan to get here EARLY for something decent. Also, much of the lot is DIRT if you get there late. Lines are not clearly marked either so the dirt lot ends up being a free-for-all with folks making up their own spaces and sometimes folks have gotten blocked in. I also had a bad experience in this lot back in 2006 - someone hit my car (only a week old!) and also scratched it up pretty good. I had to make an insurance claim. Park at your own risk as you would at any track or sporting event. Try to steer clear of parking on edges where you might get hit by reckless drivers after the races. How are the bathrooms? Fair. There a lot of stalls which is nice. Never a line. However, the restrooms are far from the grandstands and if you are towing little ones it's a long walk with a toddler who is "holding it." Plan wisely with little ones. Bottom Line: If I could take a start off for being COLD, I would. But they can't control the weather so I won't. It's my main reason for disliking this track. I hate being out in the cold and I would rather be soaking up the warmth of the central valley tracks even though the food and program here is much better. Misc Thoughts: They seem to have gotten really strict on "in/out privileges." I have no clue why. There must be a reason but be careful of this - don't leave anything in your car you might need later. The promoter does a good job having kid-friendly events so check the schedule for free-kids night etc with extra activities going on. Be mindful, the lower seats can get really muddy especially with certain cars. Arrive early for higher seats. Another note is that for some reason at the track, the fuel burning in the cars really burns my eyes badly unlike any other track. I don't know why this is. Maybe it's the air or fog trapping in the fumes? I have no clue, I just know that my eyes burn really bad here and I don't have this problem at other tracks. So if your eyes tend to get sensitive, consider bringing protective eye gear. My purpose for writing dirt track reviews is to offer info for drivers/families who may not have visited the track before and have no idea what to expect!

I have golfed a lot when I was younger but never had a lesson. I was able to get down to a decent…read morehandicap but I was just working with my slice and my home-grown golf swing. I had kids and started a business and took about 15 years off of golf. Like everyone else, I got back into golf during the pandemic. I felt like I was starting over. After a few months of scores over 100 I decided to seek out golf lessons. Steve came highly recommended by a friend. I had watched every youtube video on the web about getting rid of my slice and gave each tip an honest try. Steve taught me to focus on being relaxed and keeping a nice tempo. He also showed me how completing the rotation of my shoulders in my follow through automatically squared up my clubface at impact. In my 2nd lesson I was able to hit some of my iron shots pure. By my third lesson they were going longer and my swing felt so smooth and effortless. I started regularly shooting rounds in the low 90's on the hardest courses in the area. By lesson 6 I started to be able to regularly hit a draw on my driver with a slight inside out path, keeping my balance, and getting that club face closed with my shoulders on the follow through. I have now had 8 lessons and I am shooting in the high 80's on hard courses pretty regularly. Now pretty much every time I am out someone stops me and tells me how great and effortless my swing looks. I am hitting more fairways, more greens, and my short game lessons have improved my putting and my chipping. I am now making almost everything from 6 feet in, and have significantly improved my longer putts. I still have good days and bad days, but my bad days are better than my good days were before my lessons. Lastly, Steve is the best deal in town from a bang for your buck stand point. I paid $150 for a 4 lesson package which comes out to only $37.50 per lesson. You can't find a better deal.

To this day, swimming brings back memories of my wonderful years growing up with a great pool, lifeguards, snack bar, and friends lying in the sun, just enjoying life. And, on weekends, my brother and I liked to play tennis. Titus reminds me of the "good old days" and how much it enriched my life! It is such a community pool that, when our dog wandered across the street and fell into the pool, they called us and asked us to come get Spot. LOL. GREAT MEMORIES!
