I was looking for reviews online on google and here, and there is hardly anything available. So, I've decided to share my experiences here. Hopefully, they will be useful for someone. On Tuesday, I tried @ananekebeautysalon. I went there to get my Biogel manicure refill. They are in Yonge and Eglinton area. This place was recommended to me, and it had such good reviews on Yelp, and BlogTo. Plus, with a personal recommendation, I thought it was going to be my go-to nail salon. Maybe it's just my luck but this is not going to happen. I do not remember the name of my nail artist. Here is a list of things I didn't like. 1) She took forever to do my refill, literally over 1.5 hours. I don't do anything complicated on my hands. Usually, it's just a French manicure which I was getting this time. She kept messing up the white lines on top of the nails and redoing them. And then again. And again. And again. ‍ While I did appreciate the effort to get it right, this is the first time somebody had to redo several times half of my nails. By the end of it, I wasn't sure that the lady knew what she was doing. 2) The lady didn't file the edges of my nails properly. I didn't notice it in the salon, but I noticed it later that day when I was already on my way home. 3) She was doing such a bad job filing my nails and cut so much skin next to the nail bed on one of my fingers that it hurt for a few days. 4) On Friday, four days later, the white gel polish started chipping on several of my nails. This is ridiculous. This is biogel. It last forever and can survive alien invasion, nuclear war, and zombie apocalypse. This is the reason why I do it: biogel is the only thing that doesn't chip on my hands for three weeks. I don't know how this lady did it that it started chipping so early. Not a happy customer here. Sadly, after this experience I can not recommend this place to anybody. Please avoid it. ‍

Yelp reviews indicated that a shellac change is $25 which is reasonable. To be certain, I checked upon my arrival and was told that it was $25. After they started on my nails the person who appeared to be the owner added that it was $5 more to have shellac removed. Clearly, I should have been told that on the phone or upon arrival; I couldn't very well rip off the foils and walk out at that point. TVs are set up for people having pedicures but not manicures. Modern décor. Same English-themed clock as my nail place in London! Was there a sale? Most people will be able to find something that pleases among the shellac colour selections. Some are OPI. I didn't catch the name of the technician who worked on my nails but she did a great job. The woman next to my having her nails done commented twice that mine looked great. The tech was very thorough. They don't use machines to remove shellac, only acetone. Neither the tech nor the owner spoke perfect English so you may need to repeat yourself. This is a small price to pay to live in a country that welcomes immigrants and supports them in their attempts to prosper. No tax if you pay cash. Not sure whether they accept credit cards.

The girl was very gentle and precise when removing my acrylic keeping the health of my natural nails in mind. I left with beautiful looking nails, I was actually surprise just how good they looked. I never thought my natural nails could look this good but they worked some magic and I am so so happy with the result. Everyone working there was extremely kind and the environment was relaxing. Such a hidden gem. Already booked my next appointment and can't wait to go back.

TLDR: Dieu is consistently meticulous. Will book again with him…read more Details: Did a walk-in with my friend on a Wednesday night, the place seemed reasonably busy (good sign?) but could accommodate our 2 shellac manicures. The shellac color choices are enormous, and they also do nail design for an extra (yet reasonable) price. This I like very much. We went for single color -- me pink, my friend black. The staff speak primarily Vietnamese, so you may want to book with someone who speaks English if you want to communicate directly with them. I had a non-English speaker work on me at first, but Scarlett had to jump in and take over when I couldn't communicate to the lady I wanted my nails trimmed as short as possible. Scarlett was very friendly and did an ok job, but did cause a mild case of bleeding on one finger while trimming cuticles, which she immediately stopped with antiseptics. She would also pause for a bit to talk to other staff or customers, which for me was a bit annoying. At the end, the color was pretty and shiny and all but there were a bit of air bubbles, and I'm a perfectionist. At this point, I would have decided not to come back despite how I'm paying much more at my current go-to nail salon. BUT!!! Scarlett caught me staring at my nails and asked if there was anything she could fix, and then asked her colleague Dieu (hope I spelled this right) who was working on my friend to help me when he was done. My friend and I both had a great experience with Dieu, as he did my friend's nails perfectly the first time and fixed all mine's flaws. My nails ended up pretty and super shiny and as if they've been done perfectly the first time. Also, Scarlett said they have 1-week warranty if anything happens to the shellac nails. I hope I won't have to use this, but for those who care -- FYI. 3 stars for the initial quality (but for the $30 it's okay -- my current salon just spoils me I guess), but 5 stars for the attentive follow-up and the fixes. I will come again, but will be sure to book with Dieu for his meticulous work on my friend and me.
