I've been a regular customer at Pinellas County Reptiles and often come in to buy feeder insects for my pets. This time, I purchased silkworms and they all died shortly after. I brought them back so the staff could see, but I was told, "too bad, if they didn't die within 24 hours, we can't help you." I understand policies, but the response felt dismissive and like poor customer service. Because of this, I'll be reconsidering where I buy feeders going forward. read more

Great for animal food, but the staff can be a bit "Female". For the most part 9 times out of ten I walk into a CLEAN & well kept store, but some times its "cleaning day", you've been warned. I go there for Bearded Dragon things, Dragon mostly likes CARROTS and WORMS. My Dragon wont give any attention to crickets. NOT ALL BEARDED DRAGONS EAT CRICKETS. Began with a very friendly and helpful phone call inquiry! We were greeted when we entered the store! Shopping for a leopard gecko, there was a big selection to choose from. CHELSEA WAS AMAZING!!! First class customer service. She guided our experience and helped us purchase everything we needed to take good care of our new pet. While seemingly managing the staff and helping with needs at the register, she continued returning to us and helping with every question we had. We frequent this store for our bearded dragon food/supplies but will not be back. The last two times we were in there some of the reptiles were in such horrible conditions my daughter left in tears. One bearded dragon looked like it was on the verge of death! It could barely open its eyes and had huge crickets crawling all over it. We watched the crickets picking at the BD's eyes and pointed it out to an employee but he just brushed us off and said it was fine. Another lizard was lying in its own poop and looked so sickly it looked dead (could have been dead). The time before this one we went in and they had about 10 really young BD's all in one cage and one was actually dead at the bottom of the cage. It's just disgusting how these places treat these animals and expect customers to pay $200 for a sick looking reptile. If I had the money I would have purchased these animals just to save them but the store would just fill the cages with more sickly reptiles that they don't take care of. The employees aren't the nicest either. It's like you're bothering them asking questions. read more

went to get a incubator they told me over the phone. It was 189$. I get there. It was used and missing two screws to cover the holes open and then proceeded to rip the sticker that said 189 off in front of me and put 199$ on the incubator.will not be going back and I go there a lot sad they rip people off read more

Buyer beware, while you can make exchanges or get store credit, you can't get a refund, even if the product is unused or new. I don't recommend this store. You can find most of the items significantly cheaper at the big-name pet stores and you can return items for a refund with no questions asked. I won't be coming back to this store. Super long but good... First I would like to say I have purchased about four times from this store. I live an hour away so that drive is a bit much after you hear what happened. Even my first encounter with them was rough. But, I am all for second chances. I first heard of this company by walking around Repitcon. I went to purchase four ReptiBreeze enclosures. While going to pay my husband noticed Amazon had an $8 less a cage price difference. So basically I would buy three and get one free going through Amazon. So of course I said nevermind. The girl ringing me up gave me a HUGE attitude and turned to (I'm guessing the manager who was nice btw) and said "Amazon". I explained how I am sorry but I have a ton more to purchase in the future but her attitude never changed so I left. I ended up buying cages from another vendor there as they were kind, helpful and not an $8 increase in price. About a month ago I needed Pinhead crickets. So, my normal store did not have any in stock. Which brought us back here. I've been here about three times now ( twice sending my husband when he's in the area) and EVERY SINGLE time the crickets I ask for I do not get. I've been able to make do but today was enough! So, Fast forward to today. I sent my mother in law (who bless her heart knows nothing of this world but I am grateful for her efforts) to this store because I again needed crickets. I did not think anything of it but she put me on speakerphone. I asked how big their crickets are because like I said they have been wrong every time. They told me and I told them I needed 300 1/4inch and 15 1/2 inch. Well, I ended up with 150 1/8 inch and 150 1/2 inches plus about a third of those were 1 inch. Then I got not 15 but about 8-10 3/4 inch. Like WHAT!?! Well I called and as I was speaking to the sales person who got my request way wrong I could hear the manager yapping in the background and the sales person was repeating everything she is saying. So, I ask does someone else want to speak to me or what and she put her on the line. She told me because I already put the ones she gave me (1 bag not the other two) that those were now contaminated and there is nothing she can do. She said I could bring back the others for exchange. She also said though that if they die she can not do anything for me. Well seeing how these crickets only last about two hours in these bags I am not stuck with over 300 crickets I can not do anything with. Like I said, I'm an hour away. Needless to say I will NEVER step foot in this place again and I have many many friends in that area that I will encourage to go elsewhere as I used to live there. I will encourage them and you reading this to go to Herp Hobby Shop in Oldsmar. They are absolutely amazing and have gone above and beyond for us and our friends we sent there. read more

Please read!!!!!! I am new to the reptile world and wanted to get items for a bearded dragon as well as information how to properly care for the animal. A young girl came over and I started asking her questions about size, food, the correct lighting etc. Let me say the first thing she said is that bearded dragons did not need water in there cage because of humidity and to soak them 2x a week. I asked if the bearded dragons there had any water and she said no. So we went and looked the animals are all in cages w minimal needs and no water! I also noticed that a tortoise had no water. I bought lights and spent close to 300 dollars. After paying for these items I notice that her and the employee are taking each light bulb out touching and writing a date on the light bulb. I asked them if there is something that I ended up not needing or needing to exchange for something else it wont be a problem right? The manager said all sales final but they do store credit. I said okay. I went home and when I put everything together 1 dome wasn't working. So I jumped up and drove back to the store (I had bought the pet from a different store) when I told the manager the dome didn't work. She said when you put the bulb in you can smash the pin and it will not work. I politely said I have used light bulb for years, as we were talking she was very rudely telling her employee to pull the pin out. I advised that I didn't care if she could pull the pin out i didn't want the item. I would just like another one. The manager said fine and told the employee they would fix it later!!!!! I said nothing- they opened the box and tested it before i left to ensure it worked. I will never go back there my 80 dollar bulb worked for 2 days and broke. I know she will have something to say and after knowing that they break the manufacturer warranty the moment they touch and write on the bulbs, I would not purchase another one, so at this point I haven't even resolved that issue. TO be treated as a thief or criminal after spending 300 in the store and bringing one 30 dollar dome was broke- now I am wrong. They are a puppy mill but for reptiles. Poor experience. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!!!!! This place is horrible. I came to the store drove over an hour to see some snakes. We waited about 15 minutes to be waited on mind you no other customers were in the store. The girl who finally came to help us was not helping us for more than 2 minutes says hold on and started waiting on a new customer who just walked in. So we are patently waiting for another 20 min and there was another employee just staying around so I asked if he could show us some snakes. He came right over and helped us. He was suggesting snakes that were new that they just got in in the back. We liked one of them and he told me a price but said to call the next day to make sure that was the correct price and talk with the owner. So that meant we would have to drive all that way again. The next day I called and spoke to a woman who got the owner on the phone to confirm that the price was correct. I called back a couple days later to make sure they still had the snake and that indeed the price was correct before driving all the way there again. The woman who was on the phone was so rude was trying to tell me that the price was now wrong and the snake is more money. I tried to explain how the owner already confirmed the price while she huffed and puffed at me on the phone. Then the owner gets on the phone and said she didn't realize what snake it was when we confirmed 2 times and it was the only kind of snake that was there. This place is so rude and their customer service is horrible. They are just out to make money and up charge. They told me a price on another snake and I had a friend call the day after and they quoted him another price. Not a way to run a business! read more

This is a hard review for me to leave as we have loved this store and shopped for many years. But this recent experience has left us shocked and we will not be returning. This is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. Because of all of the years we bought our rats, mice, worms. We came last week for our daughter to get her new blue tongue skink and purchased a pvc cage while there for our snake to move to. We paid $212. We were there right at close at 7p. When we got home before we pulled it out of the trunk, we noticed the entire track glue was dried up and the piece was falling off. I made sure to go right at open 11a the next day. The owner was away getting ready for a reptile event so I could not speak to her. An employee called her and explained to me after that no refund could be given because all sales are final. They could only do a store credit. I was aware of their return policy from shopping there before. This was different to me as they sold me a cage that was broken (which I know they didn't know that it was broke when they did). The employee said they had one other cage like the broken one in the back. There weren't any more because the manufacturer wasn't making them anymore. We didn't take the option of the other cage because we couldn't risk the same issue with it being for our snake that escapes easily AND that we saw the glue issue and know it will happen again. We were offered the same size but in a glass tank for $50 more. We are moving towards pvc so wasn't looking at glass and didn't want to spend more. Because we couldn't speak to Angie, we took the store credit and left our name & phone number for her to call us when she returned after Memorial Day. Then today, Wednesday, I still had not heard from her so I called and she answered the phone. When I explained what happened & the issue, she said no return because they had another cage the same size. I explained why we didn't want another one, she said they have sold 100s with no issues so it was my choice. That I had other options for only $5 more. That would be the glass for $50 more. Their policy is no returns only store credit no matter what (even if they sell a broken cage!). So I was left with a store credit with no pvc options. Through the discussion she also said the manufacturer wasn't making these cages anymore but later in the call said her husband made them & she knows the glue is okay. She also said she couldn't refund the store credit later in the conversation because it's like purchasing a gift card and her system wont allow it. That I took the store credit so there is nothing she could do on top of it being a no return policy. I explained I was only given that as an option because she was unavailable. Im so disappointed that a business can sell a broken high dollar item to their customer and not make it right. They can say all day that a store credit makes it right, but thats not true when I am left to go somewhere else to spend more money for a cage. I never would have bought a glass cage as I wasnt looking for one. So I'm left with spending my credit and then will not be doing business here again. read more

Overall, the store had a good selection of items as far as I could briefly tell. However, the chameleons looked like hell was being brought upon them. There is substrate at the bottom of all their cages which is terrible for them in case of consumption. There were no lights on at all around or inside their enclosures and all of them were black because of their discomfort. I wish I had some pictures to show just how miserable they were. When I asked questions about care or asked for recommendations, I received answers that were would put my reptile in danger if I had followed through with them. read more

There just simply isn't another place I'd go for all things reptile... even if I just need feeders for my pets, I'd rather make the drive here (I live about 20 minutes away) than to stop at any of the 4-5 pet stores that are closer to me. I have purchased 4 snakes from this store--a sand boa, a colombian boa, and two ball pythons-- and all have been wonderful additions to my collection. The employees are all incredibly knowledgable--they are all quite clearly passionate about reptiles themselves, and are always willing to lend a helping hand. We even had these guys do a show for my son's 4th birthday party... It was a blast, and the kids learned so much! I can't recommend this store enough! read more

I couldnt say enough great things about them. I was looking for a bearded dragon for my son, and they beyond delivered. I do not live local as they are 4 hours away. I had the bearded dragon shipped and it arrived safe and healthy. You can tell they take very good care of their animals. I was shocked how active my little guy was. He also already loved to be held when he arrived, so you can tell they handle their animals and not just leave them in the cage with no interaction. They are very knowledgeable and answer any questions you have. I definitely will tell everyone I know looking for a reptile to order through them. I couldnt be any happier with them read more

This is defiantly the go to Reptile store! I go at least once every week to get my feeders (fuzzy, hoppers, crickets etc.) And I have plenty of reptiles from them along with a tarantula. The staff is amazing and has a genuine care for each animal and they provide the truest and safest information for your pets. If only there was a different option for reptile needs because since it was sold this place has gone so far down in every single possible way imaginable from feeders to their pets it would be hard to even recommend it to anyone now. I'm now going to try the other stores even going as far as out of the county because Fins and Skins is not reasonable with their prices and they don't have a selection worth going to either. Makes me very sad because before I moved to Florida this reptile store won my heart but now I literally dread having to even come to it. The staff is made up of little kids that don't have a clue about a single reptile or the feeding needs for anything and if you are unlucky enough then you have to deal with the older lady who half the time if rude or the red head who seems to always have a corncob up her rear with such a poor sense of costumer service that makes her resting ___ face seem like a star employee! They have a strong need for a reality check and some much needed costumer service training to be even tolerable to someone that has zero experience in retail service or owning a business. I would be glad to even give them a one star review if you were able to go into the store and not get the poor quality of attitude that one has to endure but since one has to give it a one star rating just to give a review I am forced to do so. These people need to know that there is other humans that live on this planet and they need to stop the attitude issue towards their costumers. Get over whatever your problem is and do your job. I was taught that when you walk into work you leave your personal problems at the door and they really should take a page from any other business on this! It is disgraceful that one even has to be so blunt especially when I don't ever want to be mean or never have written a bad review but the truth needs to be told about the new owners and their staff. Glad we found this place! They have everything we need to take care of our crested gecko! I was fearful being a specialty store things would be overpriced but they aren't at all. They were actually cheaper then Petco! Staff is knowledgable, they took the time to show us what we needed and answer all our questions. (This review is addressing the 54th ave location) I have a 4 month old veiled chameleon and this is where I purchase his discoid roaches. I love that occasionally there are sales on the roaches. They also have a wide selection of materials that you would need if purchasing a reptile. The complaints I have are as follows: I asked to be put on the "call list" for when this location received the next shipment of Phoenix worms, silkworms and also butter worms. Two months pass, and still no call. I eventually go in and purchase Phoenix worms and silkies, and they said they had just ran out of butter worms. I was mad because...what's the point of a call list..if you don't call??? Another complaint I have is about the silkworms. The SAME DAY I purchased my silk worms, I open up the container at home and I notice their food is COMPLETELY COVERED with feces and MOLD!! So as of right now I managed to scraped off the mold and switch to a more ventilated bin but it keeps coming back to the infected food. My population is now dying thanks to the poor husbandry from the staff. Honestly I would NOT recommend buying any materials such as lighting etc or small things like tongs or thermometers because you can find them for much cheaper on Amazon. For example, at the store they have a 5.0 UVB bulb for around $14. I got mine on Amazon for $8. For my feeding tongs, the ones at the store were $6 but on Amazon they were $4. I also hate the fact that whenever I go inside, even when they first open, there's always people talking in line to the people behind the counter so I end up waiting about 30 mins just so the person in front of me can have a nice little convo. Have you shopped here recently? Unfortunately the business is under new management as of August and it is clear from the moment you walk in the door that customers are not the priority anymore. Please read more for the entire witness account: I will recount the entire experience along with a little history just so you have an idea of what is going on. I have been a avid fan of Pinellas County Reptiles since I first heard about their business a few years ago by their glowing rapport. Every business that knew I was interested in reptiles pointed me in their direction and I can honestly tell you they have been absolutely wonderful. They knew reptiles, grew to know me personally, were always there for support, offered wonderful prices, accepted returns, and even threw in free feeders every once in a while just out of the goodness of their hearts. I've never gone anywhere else for my reptile needs even though making a trip to their location is a bit of a drive. Like I mentioned above, things have changed, and sadly not for the better. Upon taking a trip there recently I was horrified to find the state of the business. I had had a friend go to purchase lights for me and upon bringing them home, was made aware that one was not working. Not only that but the state of the light was not like the others, some of the inner frosting having peeled off. I simply wrote it off as being an item that was on the shelf too long and decided to take it back. Upon asking my friend she informed me that the light was not checked before it was tossed into a bag and sold. From experience I've always noted that the cashier took the lights out, tested them, and then wrote the date and their initials on the box. But upon asking my friend for further details she said that the cashier had seemed frazzled, was unable to find a pen to write with, and then had not checked the lights before writing the date on them, initialing them and sending her on her way. My friend had bought three lights so I simply figured it was a mistake, or the cashier hadn't thought she had the time to check them all. I decided to return the next week, keeping in mind that I'd been allowed to bring lights back in before and the employee's (who I'd grown to know very well) had always made certain we were taken care off as long as it had been within the thirty days after purchase. However when I returned this time I was left standing at the counter for longer than I had ever been left unattended before. There was someone washing the windows, another person at the back counter (Feeders counter), and only one other customer. Oddly enough it still took time for the person washing windows to realize I was waiting and then come in to yell at another woman to assist me. She then proceeded to inform me that I couldn't possibly have had troubles with the lights since they'd been checked. I continued on telling her that the person who had made the purchase for me had noted that the cashier from that day had not checked them, but simply written her initials on the boxes, lights, and then handed my friend the receipt. I again let the cashier know that I had been coming to this location for a long time and that I had always had the lights checked in a hood before leaving the store and never had problems returning them when an odd few blew a day or so after. But this light had refused to work as soon as I'd plugged it in and clearly had not been tested before sale. Even my friend noted it was odd that they hadn't been checked but didn't want to push the issue since the woman who'd checked her out had seemed new. I asked the cashier if she was implying that my friend was lying and she told me outright that that was the case, there was no mistake on their end. Completely horrified I then learned the truth; Pinellas County Reptiles has been under new management for a month. It is no longer staffed by the kind, compassionate and understanding people who once made it a legend among reptile dealers. It is now being operated by people who have little respect for customers, service or rapport. I was shown the receipt and told that they don't accept returns, EVER, and that they only accept unopened/new items that are returned within thirty days. But I would have had no way to know if the light was working or not if I hadn't opened it and tried it. That being said, no business is perfect, but I felt it my duty to inform older customers given that the staff is new, the business is owned by completely different people and their priorities are lying in all the wrong areas. I was even made aware of that by the cashier who had unhappily shrugged her shoulders at my dissatisfaction and mentioned "We've never accepted returns-ever, at all!" And, "Well we've only been here a month!" Which is hardly an explanation for the treatment my friend and I both received. Nor the rash implications that had been implied. Sadly enough this will most likely be the last time I shop at their store. read more

Absolutely stellar reptile location. I visited the store on 54th Ave N, and was impressed beyond belief. All the animals in the store are well cared for, the products are all solid, they have a very wide array of feeder insects that I couldn't find anywhere else in town, and the store employees are extremely knowledgeable. I needed flightless fruit flies and small crickets for an Asian house gecko, and the employee was able to find me the things I needed in minutes. If you have reptiles, or are interested in getting into caring for these lovely little creatures, this is your place to go for sure. read more

Went to the store last week and when I got there they informed me that they were out of all frozen mice. I needed a total of 7 frozen for my snakes. 3 small and 4 adults. Cindy took my number down and said she would give me a call if they get more in stock before close of business. She ended up calling me and stated that she had them in so I drove across town again and when I got there she said she only had the adults and no small mice. Again for the second time they didn't have them in stock. However Cindy is a great employee and I understand mistakes happen. Cindy actually sold some of there personal use so my snakes could eat. She said in the future give a call if I'd like to check the stock. I called ahead of time today and spoke to Danny who said he had them all in stock. Once I got there I'm told there out of all small mice and fuzzies as well. It's one thing to be sold out of something but two weeks in a row and to be told twice they have them in stock just to get there and they don't have anything. This use to be my favorite pet shop and a place I loved to go too. Now it's full of disappointments as my snakes I'm having a hard time feeding with their shortness of inventory. Danny, Cindy and Clarissa are great employees and I don't put the blame on them but I shouldn't be worried every week if my snakes are going to be able to eat with their inventory. If the provider isn't providing and isn't dependable then maybe switch your supplier. read more

This used to be my "go to" place for all reptiles and supplies, however do to an unfortunate situation with one of the employees I refuse to spend another penny in this store. One of the long time employees, whom I know very well, decided to go on Instagram and choose to attack me personally for no reason. I create a product in the reptile world that PCR does not create or sell--so there is no conflict of interest. This employee apparently does not care for my product and decided to be passive aggressive on IG about the situation, instead of coming to me directly. They made comments that were lies and untrue. Of course he blocked me prior to posting lies and negativity, so I found out through a third party. This was so unprofessional and uncalled for that I can no longer support a store that allows this type of behavior and keeps employees that are so shady and negative. There has also been some significant turn over with employees at the store. In my opinion, the extremely helpful employees that I felt really cared about customers were "let go" and employees that are snotty, negative, and generally not helpful were kept. read more
