The staff seemed nice at first, the store looked clean enough, and they assured me the puppies were healthy. Tragically, that was far from the truth. Within weeks of bringing her home, my puppy began showing alarming signs: severe breathing difficulties, collapsing episodes, and constant exhaustion. After rushing to multiple vets and a specialist cardiologist, we got the heartbreaking news--she has Tetralogy of Fallot, a rare and life-threatening congenital heart defect. The vet explained that, sadly, she likely only has 1-2 years to live, even with aggressive treatment, and options like surgery are limited or risky for her breed. Devastated, I returned to the store right away to inform them of the diagnosis and beg for any kind of assistance--whether a partial refund, health support, exchange, or just some accountability for selling a puppy with such a severe, undisclosed condition. The employee listened briefly, showed no real sympathy, and promised the owner would call me immediately to discuss options. That call never happened. Days turned into weeks--no callback, no email, no follow-up whatsoever. Total radio silence. This experience has been emotionally and financially crushing. Thousands spent on diagnostics and ongoing care for a puppy facing a shortened, difficult life, all because the store either skips proper health screening or knowingly sells puppies from questionable sources. Their website talks about "compassionate and responsible breeding programs," but their actions tell a very different story--zero support when a customer needs it most. Avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of ethical breeders who health-test extensively or wonderful rescues full of loving dogs needing homes. I deeply regret not choosing one of those options instead. I purchased a puppy from them back in July, and she's a great dog very happy and a wonderful fit with my family. However she came with a lot of stomach and medical issues due to being locked in a cage for 6 months of her life, where she was eating her #2, stepping on it and sleeping next to it. She has gone through 4 months of medical treatment to try and stabilize her stomach and illnesses she acquired from all the #2 she ate while there, and I am hopeful she'll be able to stop taking so many medications to stabilize her gastric system very soon. The place may look clean but it smells like complete chemicals which I am sure is also not healthy for the puppies. The puppies in both the Largo and Clearwater store are not clean they smell horrible like their #2 and all look sad craving attention and wanting someone to get them out of there. These places need to be reviewed and even potentially shut down. I also was told her was $700 and when I went to pay for her the price went up $400 because of this being a fee for the time they took care of her, which felt like a bit of a scam. I bought a puppy from the Gulf to Bay location of Sunshine Puppies about 6 months ago and she is a wonderful addition to our family. However, the purchasing experience left something to be desired. For one they wouldn't take a check, which seems weird for a place that deals in large ticket items such as puppies. And they have all manner of pet beds and supplies around the store but they wouldn't sell us any. Seems for what I paid, they should have thrown in a pet bed for free. The worst part was the insurance SCAM! They told us to get her to a vet for a well visit within 5 days and if they found anything wrong we would be reimbursed for the cost of the medical attention needed. We got her to the vet well within the allotted time frame and found she had kennel cough, which of course, she gave to my other dog too. We put in a claim at the location where we purchased her and never heard anything back. We went back several times to ask about it and all they would tell us was that the person we needed to speak to wasn't there. This happened at least 4 separate times. This all in addition to a dozen phone calls to try to get reimbursed. Still haven't heard a thing from them. I can guarantee you that I would not have shopped here had I known what to expect, but we do love our sweet little fur baby. read more

First it was you will have it in 7 days. That turned into a two weeks. Alex at the largo location stated a manager had my check and to come later. Here we are a month later after going back to the store. I get a text from Alex stating I'm not being refunded. Sunshine told me to take my dog to a vet ASAP as she was popping out blood. We purchased a puppy on December 3 and she had kennel cough so bad that she almost had pneumonia and she also had a very bad ear infection. I took her to the vet 2 days later because she was "still under warranty" and it took me 3 months to get them to pay me back for the vet bills but they wouldn't pay me for her kennel cough. I had to call them almost daily and kept getting the run around. Every dog in that kennel would have had to have kennel cough but they were not concerned about it. They also quoted us a price and when we got there it was $500 more than they quoted on the phone. I would never recommend buying any puppy from this place because they don't care about the animals. I looked at many different puppies, but one special little puppy stood out to me. I left the store at that time, wanting think about bringing home a fur baby. I went back later that same day and came home with our new member of our family. Dana, was very straight forward, transparent and extremely helpful in the process. I got my dog from them back in October. I purchased a marble chihuahua. They said he had been checked out medically and that he was all set and good to go however, when I brought him home I realized he was sick with a runny nose and a cough.. The purchase agreement said that if anything was wrong within the first 30 days to provide them with the receipt they would reimburse you for the visit. I've had him going on 5months now or 6. I have not received a payment. I called countless times and the finance manager " who handles all the checks " was never in. I spoke to Carson who works at the Ulmerton location who just kept lying to me which I have the text messages from him regarding the issue and my puppy being sick when I got him. Please do not finance a puppy with them if you aren't able to pay the full amount in a month or two because they will make you pay twice that amount. I highly wouldn't recommend them and you can walk in their shop and see that the conduction the puppies are living in are. Mine was in a filthy crate with poop and vomit on his bed. read more

The dog we purchased was sick from the second day. We took her to the emergency vet. We paid extra for that as we didn't think the puppy could wait. Sunshine pups supposedly has a guarantee to pay at least for medicine if the puppy is sick within a 14 day period. ( It's in writing ) I had to feed this puppy for two weeks baby food with a syringe just to get something in her belly. They knew this because they're the ones that said that would be a good thing to do. To this day I've put over $700 into this puppy. They haven't even paid for antibiotics. They haven't given me $1. They've returned one phone call and two emails. Every other time I have been put to voicemail. I've had this puppy for over two months now. She is the best. I wish I could say that about the business that sold her. How many animals they have let suffer or even die because they wouldn't pay for adequate care. I have called both branches. I have also emailed, but to no avail . They seem to have helpful employees but the owner I believe his name is Dan leaves something to be desired because the employees are telling me they're getting him the information. The employees have also stated it has never taken this long for any type of refund. I don't know if they've ever issued a refund or if it's just something in writing they used to sell the animal. I would stay away from this business. Find a dog somewhere else that the owners actually care, if it wasn't for me this puppy most likely would've died Because they do not care one bit for the animals. I purchased a 2-month-old Sable Chihuahua on Sunday 12/22/2024. Austin (sales rep) provided me with a red binder that had all the puppy's information, including a document that had a breakdown of puppy fees and policy disclosures. Part of the fee that was included with the purchase was microchip registration. During the middle of the week, I checked on the status of microchip registration online, and my results were unsuccessful. I called Sunshine puppies that same week (can't remember the exact date) and asked to speak with Austin but was told that he was not on site; spoke with someone else was told that microchip registrations are usually updated on Fridays of each week. On Friday 12/27/2024, I checked on the status of microchip registration online, and my results were once again unsuccessful. On 1/11/2025 I had the Banfield rep scan my puppy's microchip and was informed that the microchip was not registered. That same day, I called Sunshine Puppies and spoke to Austin and explained to him the situation; he apologized and said that "it had fallen through the cracks "and that he would take care of it in 30 mins. I waited several days to follow up on registration and still nothing. I went in person to Sunshine Puppies on 1/19/2025 and requested to speak with Austin but was told by the store employee that he was not available. So, I explained to the girl that was behind the counter the situation and she apologized again and told me the same sorry ass excuse that Austin did "that it had fallen through the cracks" -she printed me a form with registration information and told me that within the next couple of days I should be receiving an email to complete the microchip registration with PetKey; this did not happen. My last phone call to Sunshine Puppies was on 2/3/2025, where I called and requested to speak with a store manager. The girl that answered the phone said she was a manager; so, I explained myself again and she told me that there was nothing more that she could do for me. That I needed to call PetKey to find out what's going on. I called Petkey and spoke with the rep and she informed me that Sunshine Puppies only created an account with them but did not pay for the microchip registration. Today, 2/4/2025 my husband visited the store in person and spoke to Austin; the manager was not available. The girl that I spoke to the previous day is the same girl claiming to be manager, which was a lie because she was not a store manager but a regular employee. My husband tried to get status update on registration when Austin decided to get rude and unprofessional and told him that there was nothing more that he could do, that he did his part and that he needed to call Pet key and proceeded to tell him "To get the fuck out of the store"! I am extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service that these store employees have provided. This business has rude and incompetent staff; it is very apparent that these are poorly trained representatives. I was able to get the manager's name at the Clearwater location; her name is Dana. I left my name and contact information and asked for her to call me and she did not. This is a pattern of piss poor customer service. Despite numerous attempts at trying to get this issue resolved with the store employees the experience was still unsatisfactory. I would not recommend this business to others, and I will never do business with them again. Absolutely devastating. My family left very upset and crying. These dogs were sleeping next to their own feces (which look like it had been built up for days). Fecal matter smeared on the floors of the shop. The workers had no care to clean these kennels and sat at the counter. No photos allowed in here, the conditions are that horrific. I don't usually write reviews but I felt like I needed to for this place. The dogs are not well taken care of in here. There's signs all over the front door saying no photos or videos which is red flag #1. The don't allow you to touch the puppies when you first walk through to not "spread diseases" which is highly concerning, because it shows they've had problems with sick puppies. Which is very obvious once you hold one up close. They all had runny eyes and noses. None of the cages were clean, I've never seen such a mess at a pet store, not to mention the poor babies are on top of wire cages. I wish I could have saved all of them from being here. I was shocked. The smell as you enter will knock you over. They had 28 dogs In cages that had had metal raised bottoms that allowed urine to drop below. They had little beds that were soiled with urine and stool. I was told that you couldn't hold a puppy unless you intended to buy it. Two teenage boys (friends of the owners son) were running the shop and claimed to be the only ones taking care of the puppies for weeks on end. I watched a lady enter, ask about financing , ask the price of a puppy she merely glanced at and request to buy him if her credit allowed it. I was shocked. I was sure the dog was going to get resold by her. The teenage boy admitted to having complaints but assured me animal control cleared them. First off we went in there and the puppies had no toys and were standing on wires from the cages. and shit and pee everywhere. the place stuck terribly. I really wish I could give this horrific place -100 stars. I'm not sure how or why a place like this exists! There is no way this place is run with good ethics and morals! These poor puppies either went ballistic and continuously barked while I was in there or they didn't even lift their head.. After entering I was greeted by two teenage boys who could have given two sh*ts about these puppies. The one boy gave me a list of rules of what not to do, which Included not allowing the puppies to lick me to prevent the spread of disease. To me this is alarming because if they were coming from reputable breeders (which they're not) and up to date with vaccines this wouldn't be an issue. The puppies were in wire crates with no solid bottoms. The German Shepherd was in a crate that he/she could barely stand up in! The smaller breeds had super thin beds that were covered with food or poop, I'm guessing so they could stand on something without their little feet going through the wires... Please! Please! Our 5 year old daughter is allergic to dogs and Dan went above and beyond to guide us towards a hypoallergenic breed. We can't say enough good things about Dan... he truly cares about his dogs and takes great care of customers. Finding the right fit was much easier thanks to Dan's input. Just received DNA test results on male puppy purchased in May 2019 at Sunshine Puppies.My puppy lost all his puppy hair and regulet coat is short. He looks like a toy pinsche. All the paperwork states my puppy was a Mini Australian Shepherd but DNA test reveals father is Shetland Sheepdog and Australian Shepherd. I paid over $2000 for a mini Australian Shepherd puppy. I purchased a puppy here a few years back for approximately 3,800 dollars. Roughly 4 months ago she began acting uncomfortable and in pain. When I rushed her to the hospital they had to run multiple tests, after 4 days of overnight care at FETCH they had informed me my dog had CHRONIC kidney disease and her kidney was basically failing due to it. Therefore the dog was born with this disease / abnormal kidney. Mind you, all these dogs are supposed to be AKC and health certified. I paid roughly 8,200 dollar trying to save my dog whom was only THREE years and 7 months old at the time. With no progression , I had to make the decision to let her go and subside the suffering and pain she was clearly in. My heart was shattered to pieces. After 2 months of overwhelming sadness, I then went to speak to the owner Dan whom sold me my dog, regarding this situation and he was not at the store. I then went back a week later and he once again was not in the store. I then began calling daily to try to speak to him and of course there was always an excuse why he was either not there or couldn't come to the phone. I STILL have yet to receive a call back or speak to him. I did not go there with any intentions but to make him aware he was selling mastiff puppies with chronic kidney disease. Ironically, they no longer were selling mastiffs as of over a year ago! If you want to pay $5800 for a puppy advertised as $1800 go ahead and be the next dummy that doesn't read the contract you're signing. READ EVERYTHING YOU SIGN. He told us it would be $75 a month give or take some and so did his employee, when in actuality it was $210. That's not as big as an issue as final sale price of $1800 being actually $5700! Imagine being held to pay $3300 in just LEASE fees! READ and INQUIRE about the FINE PRINT BEFOREHAND so you don't waste your time. That way if you do, you can only blame yourself. It'd be one thing if you were transparent about the reality of the "financing" but you neglected to mention that as you know no one in their right mind would agree to it. No one who didn't plan on paying in full within 60 days that is. If you're buying cash, you may be good. But if you're financing-unless you don't mind unnecessary debt, don't do this to yourself. We might as well had saved and gone back to Petland! There, at least we would have gotten the health certificate the same night, had a legit vaccination record (our Vet told us it appeared fraudulent, had no doctor signature, was given early and appeared to have been given by the breeder), and would have came with so much truly needed benefits. Don't make my mistake. I pray this is the first review you see. Update: After going back and forth for some time, Dan realizes he's tried to con the wrong person and agrees to either refund fully or redo the contract for $400 off bringing her down to "his cost". After coming in, he loses it (much like the impatient and unprofessional temperament the other reviews allude to) and kicks us out when we point out that his saleswoman actually drafted up the contract for $2000 instead of the promised $1800 and refuses to take responsibility for her lack of proper training. Come to think of it, she had to be walked through on every point throughout the entire transaction and made more mistakes than one should respectfully allow in regards to such a serious matter involving a financial contract. He even calls the police after we advise some passerbys outside on his shady business practices. One only becomes angry like such when they know they're in the wrong. Truly cruel! I don't understand how this place is in business. The crate they have these dogs in are extremely tiny for there size. They lay on a open cage on the bottom for accidents and the beds inside the cages are the size on some dogs heads. There is no play area or anywhere for these dogs to run and get energy out but a little 12x4 area. The dogs smelled as though they haven't been bathed. The dog I looked at had poop stuck to his butt. They want an extremely high amount for there dogs. When I called they said 1500 when I got there it was 2500? The employee seemed annoyed by our questions.
