I recently brought my small 5lb dog to PetSmart for a simple nail trim. We arrived behind another small dog of a similar breed, just a bit older. It was clear that the older dog was very nervous. The groomer took him back and immediately placed him in a tight neck harness. As she began the nail trim, the dog started to squirm and whimper. Instead of comforting him, the groomer raised her voice in frustration--twice. At one point, she had the dog in a headlock, visibly agitated. It was upsetting to witness. I couldn't take it anymore and walked away while my husband stayed with our dog. Even from across the store, I could still hear that poor dog. Then I heard a loud yelp--and another. I turned around to get my dog and saw my husband walking toward me with our dog. He said, "We're out of here." On the way out, we spoke to a PetSmart associate and shared what we had seen and heard. His response? Nothing. We told the cashier as well--still, no concern, no reaction. I understand that the grooming area may be run by a separate team, but if PetSmart allows them to operate within their stores, they should take responsibility for the behavior and treatment of animals there. No pet should be handled that way, especially when already anxious or afraid. I'm writing this review so others are aware of the poor handling we witnessed and the store's complete lack of concern afterward. Pet parents deserve better--and so do our pets. read more

I was at this store in St. Pete one day and when I was checking out at a cash register, this woman (cashier) started bitching at me that my pet's prescription card was expired and should have been keeping it up to date. I told her that I have a valid (new) prescription from my pet's vet, but have not had a chance to make a card since I don't live near the store and the vet office in the store is not always open. But she kept bitching on and on like I was some kind of criminal. I hope she will get fired for mistreating the customer like this. I will NEVER go to this store ever again. read more

I love this location! Danika is the best at the grooming salon. Everyone always gives me a hard time about my dog's quicks being too long, so they never cut his nails short enough. Danika is the first person at this location who cut/grinded my dog's nails BEAUTIFULLY, with no hang nails, and perfectly short just up to the quick! You can no longer hear my dog's nails tapping on the ground as he walks. I just know he's so much happier and walking much more comfortably. Thank you Danika! read more

Took my newly adopted dog to get nails trimmed with Vaughn. Everything I thought went fine because I wasn't notified otherwise. They said he was nervous but got use to the nail trimming. When I was walking out of the store another grooming associate chased me down because as she explained - I didn't get everything I paid for and they will take my dog back again so they can finish ALL of the services. When I got home I noticed that my dogs stomach was roughly scratched and it looks like he previously bled. Again, not brought up to me at all by the grooming associates. When I reached out the store manager Glen to explain my dogs injuries - there was no sorry. The message I received was that he looked at the protocol and it simply couldn't have happened even though they used a dremel tool. He didn't even talk with his team to figure out what actually happened. Just looked at a paper and tried to take off blame. This store will injure your animal, not tell you, not apologize, and not take accountability. read more

The grooming salon here should only be used as an absolute last resort. None of the employees know how to deal with dogs who get anxious around other dogs/grooming tools (e.g., blow dryer, nail trimmer, etc.). All they did was rush my dog's appointment and just told me to take him to a private groomer. They still charged me for a full appointment even though they only kept my dog there for -20 minutes during his 60 minute appointment. They didn't trim his nails, didn't blow dry him, etc. I asked the cashier up front when I went to pay, as to why I'm still being charged a full fee when my dog got a third of the grooming done, and she kind of just shrugged and said she didn't know what to say. I didn't want to be rude because it wasn't her fault, but this salon is such a rip off. Don't take your pet here if they have anxiety with groomers/vets. These associates are not professional nor know how to keep your pet calm during situations that are stressful for them. read more

My family and I are planning a Christmas event that involves our beloved dog. We visited our local petsmart for a carrier. Beth was the cashier and her attitude was horrible with us. We are used to all employees of this store being super helpful and at least somewhat happy. She was unpleasant from the moment we approached the counter. No greeting at all first and foremost. I made a return while I was there for another item and was asked why I returned the item. When I told her, I got an eye roll and an nasty look, like I was doing something wrong and it. I asked her if she was having a good day and she stated it's Saturday and I'm not in a good mood very coldly. My advice for this branch is the hire people that are ok working the weekends with a friendly personality. So I am really just writing this review in hopes that whoever's in charge of training the groomers here takes this into consideration. My fiancé just brought our American Eskimo home the other day from getting what was supposed to be a trim...turns out they completely shaved him. He did have some thick patches we knew needed to be taken out but we did not ever expect this. If he were any other breed of dog maybe it wouldn't be such an issue, however, American eskimos are known to have sensitivities to their skin, their fur is there to help protect their skin. Our dog is shaved down so much you can see the pink pigment of his skin. Not to mention the parts of him that still have fur are very choppy and roughly done. Point is, please make sure you know what breed of dog you are grooming and the proper way to do so...we now have what looks more like a hairless cat for a pet instead of a fluffy American Eskimo. Kyle, the store manager, has terrible customer service skills and a bad attitude. refused to refund item back to credit card even though i had receipt. stated the card used must be presented for refund. contacted petsmart customer service and they advised that the credit card does NOT need to be presented to obtain a refund. customer service opened a customer complaint case so i am awaiting their response. in the meantime stay away from this store bad customer service all around no wonder store is empty! read more

I like this Petsmart, but I more use Petsmart more for browsing and looking at the cute animals than actually buying. I buy my pet products at Target, Walmart, Publix or Amazon where they are normally much cheaper. This Petsmart does have a nice selection of products. I love visiting Petsmart to check out the animals. They always have cats and kittens for adoption, birds, gerbils, hamsters and other various rodents. We have purchased gerbils from this location before and later regretted it because they were completely afraid of humans and unsocialized. I think it is better to buy them at a pet store where they are handled more. This Petsmart does have a Banfeild Pet Hospital in it and a grooming area. We have used Banfeild in the past, but that is for another review. When we do buy items at this Petsmart it is normally quick and easy to check out with good service. While I am not a fan of their prices, the store is nice to shop in. read more

I personally love Petsmart, I go there to buy everything my puppy needs except food since they are a bit overpriced. The staff is always knowledgeable about pats and always have answers to any question that I have. They do not have a large selection of dog treats made in the U.S.A but they do have some, it was at Petsmart I first learned that Jerky treats coming in from China were causing kidney failure in my puppy. After I switched the problem went away. They also taught me about quality dog food based off of the ingredients list instead of bran name. If you look at ingredients the first one listed is the most predominant ingredient in the mix, if it says animal byproduct or corn meal it is a lot of waste product and not very good. look for ones that say beef or chicken or lamb. read more

This is now my new PetSmart store since I've moved and we love it! I feel like this store has more variety than the last one we went too. We absolutely love the Martha Stuart line of toys, clothes, and pet supplies! They are the cutest things! The employees are super helpful and kind! I have an Italian greyhound so he really does not need grooming often and the grooming he does need I can take care of it, usually. In the last couple of days he had been showing a lot of interest in his butt. I tried to direct his attention elsewhere, after 2 days of constant butt licking I called petsmart grooming to see if they even offered anal gland expression. The girl said yes. A little while later I show up with my dog. The groomer asked if I had ever done this before and I said I honestly couldn't remember and she said that expressing the anal glands could irritate him. I told her he's obviously irritated now and I'd prefer she did it to make him feel more comfortable. I told her I have a vet appt at banfield in less than a week but I didn't want to wait that long because my dog was obviously uncomfortable. She suggested I go over to the vet side and have them do it there... The vet charges $50 for an appt + whatever the cost of the anal gland expression. & like I mentioned earlier we already had an appt in less than a week that we were going to be paying the 50$ for the visit + what he needed to have done for his visit. The girl basically made me feel like I was doing more harm to my dog than good but she agreed to do the gland expression. She was in the back for no longer than a minute and she said a lot of liquid came out. Since taking him yesterday to get his glands expressed he has not once obsessively licked his butt! So huh, looks like I was correct in taking him to get his glands expressed. I will NEVER take him back to a petsmart store, groomer, or banfield again. I'd rather drive 10 extra minutes to petco for all the animal needs. read more

We love this location. We used to drive all the way over here to go to the Banfield when we lived in Tampa. Now we are ten minutes away and do all of our pet shopping here. The employees are friendly and helpful. The only exception is one lady who was a cashier. She said I was so mean for using a chain collar on my dog. I was really taken aback and tried to explain that it was not mean, she didn't pull with it on, she ran from harnesses but ran to the chain collar and was excited to put it on. She continued to say rude things about me using it. 1) that's not your business, 2) you sell these collars in your store, so maybe don't drive away customers by running your mouth?? My wagging, friendly lab who I'm purchasing a bunch of toys and treats for is clearly not neglected just because she has a chain collar on. I was so annoyed. I haven't seen that employee since. Otherwise, all around positive experience. When my 15 year old childhood dog passed away, they handled the remains with such care and sent us a sympathy card not long after. The staff know my dog and come to love her up and give her treats every time we are there. It's really a very nice spot with people who clearly care about pets, except that one lady who I hope has moved on. read more

For the Banfield Animal Hospital: I took my dog here when he was feeling sick and couldn't get an appointment in with his regular vet. The doctor and technician were friendly and professional and even took it like a champ when my dog relieved his anal glands in the exam room on accident =X The exam was thorough and I couldn't ask for a better experience. read more

I have had my dogs groomed here before with out incident but I was totally dissatisfied today. Groomer dragged our dog through swinging gate and insisted he had to be shaved. He had a matt under each of his fore-legs but the rest of his coat was matt free. When my husband dropped the dog off he said that the girl had an "attitude". He came home and told me to call if I did not want him shaved down. I called. They still insisted on shaving him down so I told them not to touch him and I was on my way to pick him up. When I arrived I asked the groomer who took the dog beyond the swinging door. They would not give me a direct answer. I asked until I got a name. A groomer spoke up at the back of the room. She continued to argue with me from her station in the very backinstead of coming to the desk and speaking with me in a professional manner. Before I left the store I spoke with the manager, his only answer was that he never heard of this type of complaint before and that he had no knowledge of grooming. I believe that they did not want to take the time to groom him, the tables were full of pets and they just wanted to give my dog a quick shave down. PS today following my ill experience with Petsmart yesterday, I had same dog groomed in Seminole. Although it was further for me to drive than Gateway Petsmart, he was not shaved down, only area with the matt, he looks beautiful with his cocker cut. read more

Great experience getting 2 schnauzers groomed. Reasonable prices and I appreciate being able to get them in last minute and the women being flexible with pick up times. One of my dogs has a sensitive paw but they haven't had a problem with him yet and he never seems to be nervous to go in compared to the last groomer we used. read more

I like purchasing my pets' supplies from PetSmart, but I'm not sure if I'll reuse their grooming services. They have zero patience for puppies, especially puppies who are adopted with limited experience with groomers. They didn't bother asking my fiancé about my puppy's past experiences with grooming. They tricked my fiancé into purchasing an add-on for his grooming appointment. I asked for their basic grooming package of a shampoo, haircut, and nail trim. When my fiancé was asked if he wanted our dog's nails "done" he replied yes. What they didn't tell him was that "done" means nail grinding, which they charge an extra $13 for. Also, my puppy has never had his nails ground before, so he was scared of it. He was fearful of the grinder and fearful of the clippers near his face. Well, no kidding, he's a puppy that has only been to a groomer one time! Apparently, they had everyone hold my dog down to clip his face, so thank you for giving my dog a scary experience. If they had bothered to ask about his previous experience with grooming, this whole debacle could have been avoided. read more
