System! I knew she is a big troublemaker!I strongly advise against anyone with blindness or vision impairment seeking training here. My experience with a typing teacher who happened to be blind, young, and immature was nothing short of disastrous. She didn't even know how to treat students like human beings. It was a nightmare. The case manager was equally unhelpful and lacked empathy. She didn't even have the courage to encourage students to achieve their goals, which they didn't want to work on or help with due to their limited experience with disabilities. I was extremely displeased with my experience in this typing class, which was not what I wanted to do with my future. The instructor was disrespectful to people with sensitive noses, and the horrible smell from the greasy subway sandwiches she ordered on Fridays for one class was unbearable. This annoying and immature instructor, named MG, who is legally blind, even pulled a stupid prank on my sign language interpreter. It wasn't fair to him either. We had enough of her childish behavior and discouragement. The entire system was flawed and I knew she was a big troublemaker!``i never understand why this supervisor and counselor had to put up with her for nonsense without giving support for students this wasn't acceptable! After pandemic started I wasn't surprised some staff resigned and moved back to their country and other state for better living without feeling sad. I was thoroughly dissatisfied with my experience in this typing class, which was not aligned with my aspirations for the future. The instructor, MG, who is legally blind, displayed disrespectful behavior towards individuals with sensitive noses. Moreover, the overpowering smell of greasy subway sandwiches she ordered on Fridays for one class was unbearable. This annoying and immature instructor even pulled a foolish prank on my sign language interpreter, which was not fair to him either. We had had enough of her childish behavior and discouragement. The entire system was flawed, and I knew she was a significant troublemaker. I never understood why this supervisor and counselor had to tolerate her antics without providing support for students. This was unacceptable! After the pandemic began, I wasn't surprised that some staff members resigned and relocated to their countries or states for better living conditions without feeling remorseful. No one would return to that place after experiencing such discouragement, and it only made the situation worse. I felt empathy for students who went similar thing like what I did before no one should have came back for such a disencourqgement or negative energy it never will work this way! Stay away from this red flag place!

Hands on Miami has been an amazing discovery for me…read more I have been a regular volunteer since January- giving me plenty opportunities to get involved with the community. But while i have always had a desire to volunteer and get involved, i also had a fear of the commitment entailed and the complications that might arise out of my already busy schedule. What is so perfect about Hands On is that it's a flexible volunteering model with no long term commitments, no background checks, no frills or complicated processes. I simply went on the site, found an activity of interest, which to me was working with teens and/or kids and signed up for a specific date. I've been hooked ever since- volunteering my time every month at Miami Bridge- an emergency youth shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned teens ages 10 to 17 and I love it. Every activity is assigned a project leader who takes responsibility for the group and can be a resource on that day for help with directions, etc... I can honestly say it's been a wonderful resource for me in finding ways to get involved and make a difference. Definitely check them out at handsonmiami.org and sign up for an event.

When picking up your kid you must go to the front office and sign the them out. Teachers will not release a kid if you don't have the slip from the front office. Very convenient/accessible location with plenty of spaces to park. Playground is spacious, classroom sizes are decent. Again back to the teachers we had Miss Juany and Miss patty during the day , our little little ones classrooms were 2 doors down from each other so drop off and pick up was easy. For after school care they were with Miss Kiki , also very nice and welcoming. Here is what I didn't like: the food..... Morning and afternoon snack which is included in tuition, not the best snack selection and didn't see milk as part of either snacks. Lunch is not included in the tuition. For us it was this was very difficult bc our kids are used to warm meals. My suggestion: buy a Thermos to store the lunch so that it will stay warm ( eating sandwiches every day can get boring ), and even with the thermos lunch was a mission. Also didn't see milk as part of either morning or afternoon snack. Again my 6 and 4 year old are used to drinking milk in the morning and with the afternoon snack. So I had to pack 2 lunch boxes per kid : one for the snack and one for the lunch. As far as summer activities go there could have been a little more movement. In four weeks of camp not one field trip, and for the price we paid this was not worth it . Again....teachers are great. If you are looking for a place that has good security and has loving caring individuals for your little ones then this is the place. As far as the curriculum goes I can't comment on this because we have only used the facility for summer camp. But From what I hear from the other moms it is good.

The non profit Tropical Audubon Society (TAS) has its origins as the Coconut Grove Audubon Society…read more(CGAS), founded April 16, 1915, as Dade County's first Audubon organization. CGAS members met in homes and worked to advocated for bird and wildlife protection, protection of birds hunted for their plumes with the hiring of game wardens, ornithological education for school children and the public, and they also collaborated in the movement to establish Everglades National Park. WWII led to the CGAS becoming inactive in 1942. Led by Charles Brookfield, then employed by National Audubon Society, a new chapter of the National Audubon Society was established in 1947. The Tropical Audubon Society (TAS) has been on the frontlines of conservation and environmental protection issues in South Florida. The mission of the Tropical Audubon Society is to "conserve and restore South Florida ecosystems, focusing on birds, wildlife, and their habitats. The Tropical Audubon Society has been headquartered at the 1932 Doc Thomas House since 1976. It has been designated a Miami-Dade County Historic Site, a Florida Heritage Site, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Arden Hayes Thomas, Jr. was a pharmacist from Indiana who moved to South Miami in 1925, and opened the O. K. Drug Store just months before the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926. His business grew to managing two stores on Sunset Drive and Thomas invested in a 2.5 acres of property on the south side of Sunset Drive in the subdivision of High Pines. He commissioned Robert Fitch Smith, one of the first six graduates of the University of Miami architecture program, to create a home that would look like part of the piney landscape. He created a rustic house in the Florida wood-frame vernacular style of architecture that exemplified the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement. Created out of cypress, oak, pine mahogany, and local limestone, the home has detailed woodwork, a limestone fireplace, and built in features. Fitch went on to a storied career as an architect, taught at the University of Miami, and served on the first City of Miami Planning Board. In the 1950's Doc Thomas retired and traveled the world. A life long conservationist and bachelor, Doc Thomas decided to leave his home and the surrounding 2 acres of woodlands to the TAS. He deeded the property to them in December of 1974 and he passed away exactly one year later. Since 1976 the house has functioned as the home of Tropical Audubon Society while the surrounding acreage now serves as the Steinberg Nature Center. I discovered this delightful nature oasis and historic home in the middle of South Miami while eating lunch in the area. The gate is open so you can walk around what feels like a a secret garden. On Saturday, January 7, 1-2pm or 3-4pm the Tropical Audubon Society will host a public tour of the historic Doc Thomas House headquarters which has recently undergone structural repair and restoration. The tour is free although donations are welcome and lasts for 1 hour guided by a Tropical Audubon docent. The tour focuses on Arden Hayes "Doc" Thomas and Robert Fitch Smith and explores the near-native Steinberg Nature Center campus. The Steinberg Nature Center contains Pine Rockland, a globally endangered ecosystem. It is only located in south Miami, the Keys, and parts of the Bahamas. Pine Rockland once covered 180,000 acres or 12 percent of Miami but by the time Miami turned 100 in 1996, less than 2 percent remained. Today only fragments of the Pineland remain. It is a critical refuge for endangered plants and animals, some not found anywhere else in the world. Come out and learn about this important ecosystem and the pioneers who lived here and built South Miami.
