Wow! Five stars are not nearly enough for South Shore Brew Bus and our exceptional driver Mark!…read more I had searched around trying to find the best service to take us to and from a few wineries and stumbled upon South Shore Brew Bus. We were celebrating a 40th birthday and started planning a little late. After submitting some of my info and details of what we were looking for, Chris reached out right away. He made the entire planning process painless and was an incredible help with suggestions and recommendations. I knew from the start things were going to work out well. We settled on the wine tour consisting of 3 wineries and lunch at a brewery, as well as transportation to and from each of our stops including pick up and drop off at our home! The day before our reservation I heard from our driver, Mark. Just this simple act settled some of my nerves. I was stressing leading up this about things going awry. What if our driver didn't show up? What if bookings were messed up since I booked last minute? You name it, I thought it. Mark confirmed our schedule for the day and we were set. The day of the reservation he showed up early to pick us up and start our day. We had less than perfect weather yet Mark kept us on time for each of our stops. Not only did he take care of us getting to and from each winery, he also provided us with a charcuterie tray, mimosas, and homemade cookies. He was also able to educate us and give us fun facts about each place we stopped. Mark was better than any personal assistant - it was like we've known him forever! Not a detail was left untouched. We had the BEST day celebrating thanks to Mark and South Shore Brew Bus! We are looking forward to booking a brew tour this summer!

The cabin itself is in nice condition, but the details fell short. Mismatched towels, Equate-brand toiletries, holes in the linens, and visible damage around the tub area took away from the experience. The comforter had a musty odor, and there were multiple maintenance issues, including a buzzing refrigerator that disrupted sleep and a television with static sound. For the price and award-winning status, we expected a higher level of upkeep and attention to detail. We had a great time, but the current condition does not reflect a premium stay.

Indeed, it was one of the more beautiful wedding spaces I have been too, but it was so secluded cell phone reception for myself and multiple guests was iffy at best. Not that I was dying to talk on my phone, but I think if you are considering this place for your wedding/event - look into it. I used my cell phone non stop on my wedding day - as getting ahold of your wedding party is crucial. So, just something to think about - may be an issue for some. Wedding was outside on a terrace overlooking a gorgeous area of tree lined land (no tent, but I heard they are available) and it was really spacious. Reception was inside and the banquet room was nice and had huge windows overlooking some woods which was really nice and different from the typical boring banquet facilities. Food was delicious - although I wish the portions had been a little bigger. If i'm drinking for more than 3 hours I need a substantial base. :) All in all - really enjoyed it. About two hours from Chicago, and although we didn't stay at a hotel, there are plenty within 15-20 minutes.

But - nonetheless - the Prime Rib is famous, and of course delicious (same prime rib as Heston Bar). I loved all the food, the choices, the staff. But, of course, I am a bit biased as it was my wedding day. :)

I wasn't part of the planning, but I hope the bride and groom were happy with the set-up because it really was beautiful. I like how they set the tables up, too, because you didn't feel so far from the wedding party. Really minor: The bartender didn't know what a dark and stormy was and when I just told her rum and ginger beer, she kind of looked at me funny. Also, it was an August wedding so it was very humid and although the fans inside, above the dance floor were beautiful, it still got very hot. Doesn't matter too much when you're celebrating, though! The dinner set-up and bathrooms were very clean, I should add!

We had both our ceremony and our reception at Whittaker Woods. The venue is lovely and the servers…read morewere nice. Those are really the only positive things that we can say about Whittaker Woods as our venue. The rest of our experience was horrid. Our experience seemed to be common because whenever we told people who lived in the area where our wedding was going to be held, their eyes would get wide, and they would say, "Oh? How is that working out?" When we would ask them for their opinion, they all basically suggested that the management was very unpleasant to deal with, from what they had heard from other couples. Our event coordinator changed twice during the less than one year that we were planning our wedding. We had high hopes going in because the original coordinator seemed to know what she was doing, was nice, and seemed to really want our business; however, she was replaced for mysterious and complicated reasons shortly after we signed our contract. The two coordinators who followed her seemed to have no experience or training in event coordination. The prices were all increased substantially between when we signed on with them and when our wedding was held, and we were not given the new prices until a week before our wedding - talk about stress! The owner, Mr. O'Brien, seems to only care about money and is very unprofessional. We were never introduced to him, but heard him once yelling at his staff about someone who hadn't paid their deposit, where all the customers (not many that day) could hear him-he seemed not to care. Our coordinator (the third one) consistently did not return our phone calls regarding the planning, and seemed always to be disorganized. She also once claimed to have never received a message that we left her, but later FAXed us a sheet that had a photocopy of the message slip that she "didn't receive". She also miscalculated our bill. We scheduled a tasting, and our coordinator did not give the chef the list of items that we wanted to taste, so he was unprepared. He also had dirt under his fingernails, just what you want in a chef. The food did taste good, but was overpriced. The shuttle bus that we paid to have to drive our guests from the hotel to Whittaker Woods and back left 30 minutes prior to the time that we had paid for, even though the coordinator had told us that he would stay. Then many of our guest (and us!) had to bum rides back to the hotel. Their excuse was that the shuttle driver had been sitting there for a while waiting for people to need a ride. What does that matter when we are paying by the hour?! Why should a lot of people be leaving when the reception is far from over?! That pretty much sums up our experience. As I said, the facility looks very nice and is set up well to hold a wedding and reception, but by the time we had our weddding, we had had so many problems with the management, it was hard not to let that affect our feelings about the place; also, we were worried about how they were going to take advantage of us next, but tried not to let it spoil our day.

We had our brand new golf cart stored with Lan Cam for the past winter with the commitment that it would be winterized, stored, inspected and cleaned before having it returned to us this spring. Quite the opposite actually happened. The cart was delivered a full month late (compared to the week-long lead time we were initially told). We had to call repeatedly to check the status. But the experience only goes downhill from there. It arrived filthy with raccoon feces in the back compartments and within 5 minutes of the first drive, the battery died and we had to push the cart home. It's evident that the cart was never winterized or properly stored. When I called for answers, I was told that raccoons infested some of their storage facilities and the cart should have been cleaned, which means that they never planned to disclose the issue with me. No solution (such as a cleaning -- which I paid for -- or a refund) was offered. I've since called Lan Cam three times, and each time, they promised that the owner would call me back. Maybe this review will get his attention, but I doubt it. This company gives a bad name to small businesses that work hard to serve its neighbors. Avoid this place at all costs.
