While the cabin concept is unique, and the lakeview outdoor patio was a highlight (cabin 22), the overall amenities and service felt closer to a three-star experience. The cabin itself is in nice condition, but the details fell short. Mismatched towels, Equate-brand toiletries, holes in the linens, and visible damage around the tub area took away from the experience. The comforter had a musty odor, and there were multiple maintenance issues, including a buzzing refrigerator that disrupted sleep and a television with static sound. For the price and award-winning status, we expected a higher level of upkeep and attention to detail. We had a great time, but the current condition does not reflect a premium stay. read more

What a great romantic getaway! Glad we booked our stay in the winter as the fireplace & heated floors can make the room extra toasty. The staff were great! Took us to our cabin & explained everything in detail. I love the fact that they have a compartment to place things in instead of bothering you during your stay. Just flip the light to indicate you have a request. The tv was a little fuzzy due to snow so we requested dvds. In my opinion they really thought of everything. They had the perfect snacks. The breakfast basket included 4 pieces of fruit, two Nutrigrain bars and two large muffins. They have ingredients for s'mores, feed for the geese, coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. We upgraded to a room with the massage chair. It was worth it! One night was more than enough. It really is the perfect romantic getaway. They have things for you to do outside of the cabin on the property as well. I would definitely go back. read more

This has such a sweet cabin in the woods feel. They spoil you with little care packages in your cabin mail box of cheesecake or s'mores in the evening. I called over the weekend to find out if they had any cabins available for two for this upcoming weekend and I knew reality wise that they may or may not have any however when the lady answered the phone I had first asked if they had any available this weekend of course, she asked if I've ever been there before I said no this would be our first time to just all of a sudden take this trip for our 22nd anniversary. She rudely said NO there are none available then hung up. Okay wasn't expecting a rude no, maybe a no sorry we are all full for the weekend you'd like. My parents booked our stay for our honeymoon. We just recently got married and they wanted to do something special for us. We've never been to Serenity Springs or even heard of it honestly. We arrived a little later on Sunday for our check in but as soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly by someone at the front desk. She was very knowledgeable about our stay. She knew from the get go that my dad booked our stay at the lighthouse cabin and even took the time have us scan a QR code to have a little welcome video play as she took us back to our cabin. She gave us a full rundown on how it all works and let us know if we need anything to not hesitate! I will say for someone who hates asking for things or bothering people..the butler box is the best touch!! We didn't have to talk or call anyone for anything. You simply wright your request on the given paper and then place in your butler box with the light on. They check these periodically throughout your stay which was super convenient! When we came into our cabin they had a cute little personal welcome note and a just married balloon along with some treats and bath salts. The cabin was clean and we loved how everything was labeled. It's always so frustrating when you go somewhere new and have no idea how to turn anything on. You won't feel that here, everything has instructions and if you still don't know how to do something or need something the butler box awaits you. We selected some movies to borrow and we ended up watching all that we selected. They give you feed to feed the waterfowl and they are right! You throw it out to them more will come!! I love feeding ducks so this was so much fun to me and they even filled our feed bucket and gave us more during our stay as well. The little treats and snacks they pop in your door throughout the day is so exciting. I love surprises so it was fun seeing the little red light pop on to let us know we have something new! We received so many great treats, cheesecake, s'mores, candy bars, the snack basket, we even asked for farm fresh eggs and bacon. They provided us with everything we needed to cook those items. We also asked for a late checkout which was granted. We are not early risers so being able to stay until 4pm instead of 11am was spectacular. We honestly didn't even stay until 4pm we ended up checking out around 1:30-2 pm which when we checked out we paid for our extras we asked for. We ended up getting doordash one evening and the staff delivered it to our cabin so we didn't have to fuss with doordash. We asked for champagne and the chocolate covered strawberries and they were both delicious! My husband and I are so sad we had to leave as we didn't want to go yet! We had a 3 night stay with them at Cabin #6 the lighthouse. We also didn't have to clean our dishes! We just set them in the butler box, requested the service, and they picked up the dirty ones and brought back clean dishes to use. The cabin was very secluded from the others and wasn't too far from the front gate. We even had a horseshoe driveway for our cabin so it made it feel even more private. We could barely see the other cabins around us and we even had our own private part of the channel to feed the waterfowl. This was such a perfect way to start our new life together. Spending quality time alone together definitely helped us relax and having someone else do all the hard work(butler box). Some things I would recommend if you plan on staying here; bring some DVDs with you, we asked for some and we got them but we were big on movie watching so we were happy that we brought some along with us. We brought an air freshener wall plug in and some poopourri because they don't have actual doors on the bathrooms this helped tremendously. If you think you need the late checkout, get the late checkout! Like I mentioned before it was so nice not having to rush and leave so suddenly instead we were able to take our time, enjoy our last cup of coffee together before we headed out(they also provided Togo coffee cups so you could take them on a walk or when your heading out to leave). Bring extra cozy items, blankets, slippers, and etc. I'm a big bath person myself so we brought epsom salt and some bath bombs with us knowing we would have sunken tub. They do offer massage oils and bath bombs to purchase to use but we had some already so it was nice. Definitely get an extra night to stay, there's so much to do just inside your cabin, plus the clubhouses, and all the fun attractions nearby you are going to want the extra time. We will highly recommend Serenity Springs to our friends and family. We also most definitely will be back hopefully sometime soon. Thank you for making our stay so wonderful! read more

My wife and I were very excited for a weekend getaway and were very disappointed by accommodations. Starting from the staff repeatedly telling us we to watch a video about the cabins and finding out that the nice meals shown on the website were no longer available and we could only order from the local pizza place, we were put in "it will be fine" mode. In fact, it wasn't fine and went down from there. The cabin itself looked nice. The rooms no longer have stereos and there is only one music station available on the TV. No big deal, right? It seems the radio was on when we arrived in an attempt to cover the sound of the mini-fridge, whose compressor was loud enough to hear over the tv and to wake me up multiple times during the night. We can make the best of it... They have a nice setup for communicating with staff via a butler door. We were told someone made rounds and would pickup our requests every 30-40 minutes. We put our dinner order in at 4:30. It was picked up an hour later and our dinner arrived at 7pm (we were glad we didn't wait to order). The pizza was good. The tub wasn't clean. I cleaned it and filled it, noticing a couple of the jets weren't working right. I also noticed water pooling around the handles for the water (leaking). We tried starting the jets and some worked and others didn't followed by noticing water coming out from under the edge of the tub and leaking across the floor. We mopped it up with a towel and kept trying to enjoy our stay. In addition the compressor on the fridge, the tub has an "auto-clean" cycle that apparently goes off around 1am and again around 2am. This is also extremely loud. After the fourth time of being woken up, I finally just stayed up. In the morning, we agreed that our weekend would be better served by checking out and going home. When we checked out, I was told the they were sorry for bad experience and that the owner wasn't available (I didn't ask for the owner. I just wanted out) but they would call me. Having seen other reviews, I'm not holding my breath. read more

We've been coming here several years and always have an enjoyable time. They unfortunately no longer have the carriage rides. Still, it's a wonderful place for a romantic getaway. The cabins are always emaculate and you are greeted with a personalized card and a basket of snacks. They gift you with the fixings for smores and provide a breakfast of fruit and muffins. You can request eggs to cook yourself which we always do. I recommend buying their bacon to go with the eggs. They have exchanged the pop for a healthier choice of smart water in a souvenir bottle you can keep. They also bring you cheese cake in the evening. We rarely have any issue, but if you need anything they are so quick to fix it. We just stayed in one of the recently remodeled cabins. The sinks are prettier and those noisy blinds have been replaced with easy slide curtains. It's always a special time when I go here and I highly recommend paying Serenity Springs a visit. read more

We really wanted to like this place. I should have known from the time I scheduled with them that the staff were not friendly or accommodating. The person booking my stay was flustered and grumbling about the computer system, but I scheduled anyways. We stayed on an unusually warm April weekend. They did not tell us upfront that they do not turn on the air conditioning until mid-May, we didn't find this out until Night 2. This is our biggest complaint. Without the air conditioning, the cabin was unbearably stuffy. We left a night earlier than we planned. We would not have scheduled a stay in April if we had known that AC was not an option until mid-May. Among many smaller things that built up for us...the TV was needing repair as well from a storm and they were not able to fix it. There was not a closed caption option on the TV for the hearing impaired. The continental breakfast was disappointing- a few pieces of fruit with packaged snacks that looked like they were from the gas station. The property is right next to a train line and the highway, which doesn't bode well for peaceful walks around the property...overall, just completely not worth the high price we paid. When telling the staff about our concerns, they always had an explanation as to why things couldn't be remedied, and offered no compensation. Their defensiveness was completely at odds with their marketing materials that they want to make sure they can make your stay as nice as possible. We will not be staying there again and hope our review will give others a clearer picture of what you're signing up for. read more

Heartless person answered the phone I had booked a room for Dec 19th 2022 on Jan 17th my husband passed and we never got the chance to use it. They said use it within the year after trying to bring myself to use it I just can't its too soon and my main reason I can't with it being too soon we were supposed to spend a romantic evening and for me it will just be too sad. My husband and I had a wonderful time at Serenity Springs. Everyone on the staff was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the carriage ride, butler door, (especially the unexpected treats) enclosed patio (fire pit) and massages by Kim. After reading other reviews about (interstate noise) and lack of a bathroom door we decided to upgrade (my husband and I have been together for 27 years but I still prefer privacy in the bathroom). We stayed in cabin 12: barely heard the traffic and enjoyed the comfort of having a bathroom door (and enclosed patio). Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate so we couldn't explore the grounds. But that's fine we will diffidently return this summer for the full experience. read more

While searching for 'hotels with Jacuzzi rooms' within a couple hours drive for our 35th Anniversary, I came upon Serenity Springs. Now, it being March Madness I always have to make sure my hubby can enjoy the games while soaking in the tub. Makes for a happy marriage :) What a lovely place! I'm hoping we can go back when it is warmer to enjoy being outside. Each cabin has a nice deck with a gas firepit, facing either a pond, lake or channel. You park your car at check-in and they deliver you and your luggage by a carriage ride. Upon arrival to the cabin we were greeted at the door by staff and everything was explained to us. A butler door for service, heated floors, dvd/tv with surround sound, Jacuzzi, corn to feed the ducks and geese. Cabin was stocked with cutlery, plates, cups, salt/pepper, butter. A nice water cooler, and the fridge stocked with pop or juice, which they will ask when you book what you prefer. And they even had an Anniversary balloon and greeting card for us. I wasn't sure about meals and such so I had a cooler of drinks, lunch meats and snacks. Really could have done without. I figured we would have subs for Sat. lunch and eat out on Fri. & Sat. evening. BUT didn't have to leave at all. They had menus to order from local restaurants (both excellent) and they delivered and set up candlelight service for you. Sigh..... There is also a grill on the deck if you prefer. Through the butler door we were provided with treats and breakfast items. Them's some HUGE muffins and delicious! Each cabin is themed and ours was #32 the Kaleidoscope cabin. Decorated by puzzles put together by someone at the resort. I know the main thing some will not like is the bathroom, with only a curtain for privacy. But when you've been married as long as we've been, it's not an issue. All I can say is WOW!! Stayed for the first time last night in cabin#21 the sunflower room. super clean, and well decorated. The Valentine's Day package was absolutely perfect! Rose petals, bath bombs,salts, and bubble bath. Super cute tuxedo champagne bucket, champagne of course. Chocolates, pop rocks, candles along side the jacuzzi, as well as a heart shaped balloon. Surprise teddy bear later in the evening in the butler box just to name a few things included in this package. This was probably the most amazing hospitality we have experienced to date. Upon arrival we pleasantly greeted by the woman in the office, and given dvds to watch during our stay. ( I apologize I can't remember names). The horse drawn carriage was a beautiful touch, the coachman loaded and loaded our things for us. Alicia was awaiting our arrival at our cabin. Before getting out of the carriage she offered to take some pictures for us which we thought was nice. The floors inside the cabin were already warm which was awesome. Alicia was truly amazing and thoroughly went through everything we needed to know ( how to switch the tv from movies to music, where everything is located, the butler box is the coolest thing ever!!!!! All you have to do is write a note and flip a switch, she even said they would go out and get liquor if there was something specific we wanted!!. She was super pleasant. This is definitely a place you need to stay more than 1 night to be able to get the full experience. All in all we had an amazing time and will definitely be returning to this gem!!! I should've known from when I called to make the reservation that the staff would be horribly rude, but we will get to that later. Upon arrival to the place we were told "your tub has a small stain in it, but don't worry, it's clean" and "the TVs have a little static sometimes". See photos for the "small stain" in the tub, which doesn't even show you about the fact that there were chunks floating in it when we filled it up and loud gurgling noises constantly coming out of it even when we hadn't touched it in over a day. See photo for the "static TV" that was a constant and rendered the TV unusable. Aside from these two initial warnings, we entered our room to find a used blindfold on the floor in a pretty visible location which makes you wonder -- did they clean this room before our arrival? My guess is no considering how dirty the floor was even aside from the blindfold. Throughout the rest of the room we quickly learned that our microwave didn't work and our refrigerator was hardly colder than room temperature no matter what setting we tried. Now on to the staffing. The woman I spoke to on the phone to make my reservation was very rude, not wanting to talk me through the options of cabins but instead expecting me to list her exactly what number cabin I would like even though she knew I had never stayed with them before. She took down my card and contact info and charged the full amount right away without ever sending any sort of confirmation email or text. Wonderful. When you arrive they mention that you can order pizza through your butler box. We decided to forgo that route and place a mobile order online (seemed much easier to make our customizations online and have direct contact with the restaurant than write our entire order on a notepad and have to play telephone through the staff) however, not even 5 minutes after placing our pizza order we received a call from the front desk where the woman asked "did you just order a pizza on mobile order? You were supposed to use the butler box, but I guess that's okay" and stated they could call us when it arrives at the front and we could come get it ourselves, when they advertise that they will bring doordash and food orders to your room from the front since they won't let any drivers past the front gate. They say they want to give you privacy but loudly place random, unordered items in your butler box multiple times daily and since there are no room phones "for privacy" they call your direct cell phone instead. The breakfast is a joke (see photo) and the eggs arrive the night before and cannot be kept cold enough in the warm fridge to be safe. All of this not to mention the massage chair we paid extra money for (see photo, self explanatory). We will not be returning and I suggest you don't either. read more

We stayed in Serenity Spring last weekend using the Groupon I purchased. I have to pay $50 to upgrade to another Cabin because those that they sold was booked for the weekend. The upgrade was well worth my $$. My date did not know where we were going until we got there. He was happy when I told him there would not be kids around the property. The carriage ride was a little cheesy and stinky but hey, horse smells. The staffs are SUPER NICE. They provided speedy service, took away the dirty plates, provided clean plates, took out trash as we requested. When I asked for milk and they did not have it, they left a note to say, sorry, we don't have milk. Very responsive. The cabin was clean, everything was really nice. We were very please with all the fruit/food basket and cheese cakes that were deliver to us. We stayed at cabin #22 facing the highway, we did not hear much noise. Even when we were sitting outside, it did not bother us. I kept hinting to my date that I WOULD TOTALLY COME BACK many times. Do you think he got the hint? I hope he reads this so he knows he should book a trip back here at some point with me!!! We also walked around the property at night to see the stars. There were horse poop but the staff provided flash light, you just have to be careful. I requested for farm fresh eggs, they gave us a worn out skillet to cook them and it was CLEANED! We watched other couples fishing at the property, cooking, walking around. They seemed to have had a great time. I will come back...hopefully in another season to enjoy the fireplace and the fire pit. read more

Wow, is the best way to sum this place up. I've never been to a place where you're treated so specially. My fiancé and I won a free 2-night stay from a bridal expo and we chose a Wednesday - Friday to go. It was quiet, quaint, and lovely. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the staff by one of them sticking her head out of the entrance door, smiling and waving, and pointing to an area for us to park in. We entered and they checked us in and gave us a quick spiel about renting movies through them, among other amenities (requesting fresh eggs, etc). She walked with us to our car where a horse and carriage was waiting for us. They loaded our bags into the carriage and we were off to our cabin! The staff was very friendly throughout the entire time, chatting with us and asking how our stay had been going. When we arrived to our cabin, another staff member was there to remove our luggage, take it into the cabin, and give us a mini tour of it. She was very polite and asked if she was welcomed to come in. There was music playing when we entered from our tv. I think it's safe to say that this experience was made up of a bunch of smaller things that occurred to really make us feel welcomed. The butler box was really cool! We were given things throughout the stay, such as smores supplies, brain teaser games, anything we requested, fruit and breakfast bar basket, and even a little card from Izzy the horse offering us a carriage ride. The hot tub was euphoric. It was so cool sitting in there, relaxing, and watching a movie with surround sound. I fell asleep in there the first night! We requested the farm fresh eggs and made them on the grill one morning. We spent some time peacefully feeding the ducks and geese, and went into town for dinner both nights. They offer dine in service for candlelight dinner, but we wanted to go out a bit during the day. This was such a wonderful experience. The pictures on their website doesn't give the cabins any justice. It's local for me, but it's secluded enough that I forgot how close to home I was. The experience as a whole was very worth the stay, so much that we are already planning to book our one year anniversary trip there. read more

Been here countless times and never once disappointed. The staff- incredible from the time you check in till you leave. Greeted with smiles and great attitudes. Like they say on the web page, whether it be 3 cabins booked or a full house you feel like you're the only ones there. If you need something they are on top of it. Very professional. The cabins- everyone has a different personality and decor. Clean and cozy. Nothing is underdone or overdone. Just right in my book. Love each style of cabin for one or more reasons. My favorite is the ones that have the upstairs with the love seat. Great spot to sit back and relax. The fireplace on the back deck is just right for a summer night or a cold winters night. The extras- From the little surprises to the carriage rides, the fishing to the clubhouse, all fit in perfectly to the experience. Don't want to give it all away. The land- the trails are perfect for a nice stroll in the morning or the evening. Of course a nice carriage ride is great as well. Love the fact they stack the waters with fish. They also supply you with rods and bait. Seeing the ducks and geese about just adds to the scenery. All in all five stars all around. My husband and I just returned from a weekend here and all I can say is WOW! The staff is friendly, the cabins are clean and private, and the area provides plenty of local entertainment. The only warning that I will give any couple planning a trip here is that there is no private bathroom in the cabins. Just a shower curtain separates you and your loved one from all those private moments! There is plenty to do on the grounds including riding bikes and fishing but if you're looking to get out a bit Blue Chip Casino and Shoreline Brewery are within a 10 minute drive. This is a great getaway for couples young and old and my husband and I are planning to make this a yearly trip for us. read more

This place doesn't even deserve a 1 star rating. My wife and I stayed here at the end of October. When we arrived, there was no horse and buggy to take us to our cabin as they had advertised on their website. Instead they brought us an old dodge caravan full of disgusting stains all over the floors, and chairs. My seat belt was broken, and I couldn't open my door from the inside. Not a good way to start things out when the rain we received earlier that week was not bad enough to warrant not giving us the horse and buggy ride that we were so hoping for. That was child's play compared to what we witnessed next. When they took us to our cabin (The Safari room), we walked in and were immediately met with an overwhelmingly strong scent of nicotine smoke. The girl with purple hair said she could tell there was something faint in the room (as if to ignore it), but I explained it was really strong and I would not be able to handle it while there. We continued to scope out the room, and the bed had a large hole burnt through the top leopard sheet (See attached photo). The edges were rough and dark, you could tell someone had an accident and burnt a hole through it. We then glanced into the horror of the spa we were expected to sit in (See attached photos). You can see from the photos that there are large stains in the bottom, and all around, with rust stains around the nozzles, and I bent down and felt numerous brown dirt particles with my hands. It was as if no one had cleaned this place before we got there! It was absolutely appalling and disgusting to even expect that we would want to sit inside of this thing. This sealed the deal, and I asked how they consider this treatment a 5-star experience? We were in the middle of no where off the road, and the woman argued with me and said, "That's how that spa has been for a long time, it's not dirty, it's just old." I couldn't believe how she was talking to me, so I called the older woman at the office and she was far worse! She argued with me at every chance she could get, saying that there was nothing wrong with the room, and I told her to come down and see with her own eyes and smell with her nose, it was completely unacceptable. Instead of a real apology, I received the famous Fopology statement, "I'm sorry you feel it doesn't meet your standards." This only further painted the picture of exactly who they are. It is universally understood that you do not say, "I'm sorry you feel that way." Only manipulative jerks make statements like that. We said we did not want to stay there, we wanted a refund, and wanted to leave. After much back and fourth arguing, we were told by the owner that we would not be receiving any refund, and it was posted on the website, no refunds. We immediately searched our phones and eventually found it. How very convenient after searching close to 15 minutes before we found it. We told them they clearly made it very difficult to find on their website, but this didn't matter to them at all. We told them how outraged we were, and since we weren't going to be refunded our 500.00, that we were officially feeling obligated to stay. The eventually moved us to a different cabin, but what else were we going to do, leave and lose 100% of the experience? They moved us to a different cabin, one with a clean spa, but we should not have had to go through what we did in order to get there! This was our first real vacation in 6 years, and we put our trust into these people, and they gave us the polar opposite of what their website portrayed. After all of the arguing and disrespect, they still had the audacity to act like nothing had happened and that they were not at fault. These people have spent too much time with their heads in the sand, and serenity springs is definitely NOT a 5-star getaway. We will never forget the nightmare of this place, and the treatment and back talking that we received from their employees. You may have gotten away with our money, but I hope it was worth all the negative light that we will bring to your name. read more

I held off writing this review because I was told the manager would contact me but I have not heard from them - We stayed here 2 nights May 9th-11th for a short honeymoon. And it was MISERABLE. The temps were high 80s-90s while we were there and they did not have the AC working. We were told they don't service them until mid May. The cabin was so hot we couldn't sleep. There is a fan but it's so high up on the ceiling and only has one speed you can't feel it unless you're directly underneath it. With it being so hot in the cabin some cold water to drink would have been nice.. but the water cooler wasn't cold! Our first night and into the second morning we did not have hot water. I had to call the second morning and they informed me that it had to be turned on. The last morning we once again had no hot water and my husband took an ice cold shower. Because there was no hot water we weren't able to enjoy the tub in our cabin. We picked a "lake view cabin" in hopes that we could enjoy the view in the morning with our coffee and breakfast on the back deck LOL not a chance! The geese don't leave you alone because they're fed.. as soon as you step outside they bombard you and try to attack if you don't feed them. We had one climb the steps and try to bite my husband.. The bed is ridiculously uncomfortable so we attempted to sleep on the reclining love seat.. which was hard on the neck. The only thing we enjoyed was the complimentary snacks. They offered us a complimentary late check out because of the hot water issue, when I declined because we planned to leave early (why would we want to stay!?) they offered a $50 credit on our next stay... I also declined and told them we won't be back. Overall a terrible experience. I would not recommend and we definitely won't be back! read more

I stumbled on this place from a Facebook ad. We spent 2 nights. We got a deluxe cabin (screened in porch). 1. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They responded to any request SO quickly!! That is awesome. The butler door is fun. Lots of fun snacks and treats come thru it. 2. There is a long list of movies to borrow. Games and bikes are available for free. 3. The room has a lot of little things to give you comfort. The grilling tools (even aluminum foil) are there to use. Plates, cups, flatware are all there. Mattress was comfy. Pillows were a bit flat. Should've taken my own. It's a small cabin with not a lot of extra room. 4. There are a lot of negative comments about the breakfast. I must not be picky cuz I'm fine with a giant muffin and a banana or orange. You can get eggs for free from them, upon request. 5. Honestly, my negative was the shower. Ours dripped. And figuring out how to get hot water in it was crazy. Had to ask for help. The tub takes about 30 min to fill. So I think the water is the biggest negative. 6. Would I go back? Update: owner called me today and said in over 20 years this has never happened and that maybe we should have called the police and also questioned what number we called. also stated he wished we had made our way down and tried all numbers listed on there because for some reason the emergency number did not forward to his phone. All I can say is that we called the number listed as the emergency number. Felt like blame was put on us. said they would update the instructions in the book to day if something criminal happens call 911. cautious of staying here. have been repeat customers for years until this weekend when we caught a guy peering into our cabin with his face against the glass at 930 1000 PM at night. confronted him and he said he was looking for a fox? called the "emergency number" listed several times with no answer or response. made us extremely uncomfortable so we left in the middle of the night. I attempted to make reservations and the staff was rude. Rushing the conversation and not allowing me to speak freely. I wanted one day and she added an additional day. When she read the total, I asked to cancel because of the added day and she told me the transaction had already went through and I have to wait. I have been there before and it was a wonderful experience. This time, the staff was the issue not the actual establishment. read more

Found a deal on Groupon for a 2-night stay for $279 and in a secluded cabin/bungalow how can you resist? Serenity Springs is located right off 94E and is about 65 miles from Chicago. Upon arrival you are directed by signs to tell you where the office is. Checking-in we were greeted and I was asked to sign my invoice showing the Groupon deal, but also a $60+ charge for taxes/fees. Upon scanning the invoice I notice without the Groupon deal our 2-night stay would of cost us around $600, so yes, Groupon was a good way to go. We then handed over our car keys, for them to move it to the designated parking area, transfer our luggage to the back of the horse carriage, and took a ride to Cabin 14, our home for the weekend. I like the carriage ride, but ours had a "flat tire," the left wheel was missing part of it's wheel so it continuously "clunk." Which can get frustrating after awhile. Arriving at our cabin there was an employee there to assist with our bags and show us the basics of the cabin. Our bedroom was upstairs on the loft while on the ground floor we had a dining table, couch, coffee table, TV, jacuzzi, fire place, and a curtain to separate the toilet and shower from the rest of the room, it was cozy. Also provided to us were complimentary juices, coffee, plates, utensils, popcorn, and corn to feed the geese. The cabin was clean, but outdated. The couch and bedsheets can definitely use an upgrade, don't need fine leather or anything, but something more comfortable. Our back patio has a gas grill to grill some food or a fire pit to make some smores. I didn't sit out there as I've been prone to mosquito bites a lot this summer and we were surrounded by trees so I didn't want to risk it. My favorite thing about the cabin has to be the butler door. There are no phone lines between cabins so the best way for communication to request items is the butler door. Need more kleenex or popcorn? Write it down, put it in the butler door, and turn the service switch on. Throughout the day staff will come by your cabin to see if a request is needed and fulfill it within a timely fashion. When a request is completed they put the items in your butler door and switch on their switch and a red light will turn on letting you know you have items in your butler door. Old fashion, but efficient. During our stay we were given the option for a complimentary extended carriage ride through the property and we are glad we took them up on their offer. Not only was it a beautiful day, but our drive was friendly and answered any questions we had. We also spotted a baby dear and a turtle. Found out there are 36 cabins, 5 are currently use for storage due to renovation at their main office. Also thanks to internet deals it's the busiest they have been in awhile. (Side note: we got a carriage without a flat wheel.) The jacuzzi was great. It fit two people comfortably and there was a basket of towels waiting right next to it and when the AC got freezing we would just turn on the fireplace switch and "wha-la" it's on and heating up the room. Every morning we received a basket full of breakfast goods such as, pastries, breakfast bars, or fruits. I was kind of disappointed because I'm not a "sweet" breakfast kind of girl and I would of love some croissants. Also you can request eggs, but we had nothing to eat them with so it was kind of pointless, we ate them plain and by themselves. Every evening we would receive sweets, which in our case was 2 slices of variety cheesecake. A nice gesture but from being around town we were often too full to eat it. And everything is complimentary. Want to stay in your cabin and not venture out? Well, there are lunch and dinner options for you from Chili's and another local joint. It'll take some time for your food to arrive, but it's something to take advantage of if you just want to lounge and enjoy the area. You put in your request during the available hours and for the Chili option an employee will pick up and deliver your meal to you. While the other option I believe was pizza and it delivers to the office and the staff will deliver it to you. So no hassle for you. Overall, our stay was relaxing and comfortable, but there isn't much to do on grounds. It's definitely scary at night when returning from dinner and it's pitch black besides the cabin porch light or the Christmas lights on the trees by the office, but they do provide flashlights, although I feel like they can add some walk way lights. Also if you do not like the smell of well water this is definitely not a place for you. read more

Excellent stay at Serenity Springs! Wife and I stayed for 3 nights at the end of Oct-20. The reviews here are accurate. It's not about ultra-luxury accommodations and amenities...it's something more impressive to me: hospitality managed by pros who are highly organized, anticipate needs, and know how to execute. Easy = relaxing! Contactless everything thanks to smart procedures incl. combined gratuity when pay bill, and of course the Butler Box. Put a note at night asking for fresh eggs and toast for breakfast, within 20mins the Butler Box light went on and we had eggs/bread wrapped safely and a toaster:) Stayed in Vintage Rose cabin with enclosed porch (premium price). Cabins are a bit closer to each other than expected but we never saw another guest. Decor, couch, porch furniture a bit dated but did not detract from our experience. DVD selection (yes DVDs) could use a refresh...bring your own or have fun and laugh picking random bad movies. Heated floors, amazing insulation even on porch, fireplace and firepit, hot tub...always cozy, never cold though it was 30s/40s outside. We had all food delivered -- no calls, no dishes, just Butler Box (schedule 2hrs in advance): pizza was good if you like heavy/squeaky cheese (which apparently we do!), ribeye steak was quite bad -- perfect medium but very low quality meat.  Mini fridge capacity better than expected plus we kept a cooler on the porch.  Wish we were there right now! read more

Me and my husband wanted a special secluded getaway and after searching on Google I came across Serenity Springs cabins. I figured we would take a chance, it was for my Birthday on August 14. I must say I have never experienced something so beautiful it exceeded my expectations. The pictures don't do it justice, it was absolutely amazing and beautiful. I can't say enough about the staff. Doesn't look that nice driving by or online. Stayed 2 nights on a friend's recommendation. They did an excellent job catering to us personally. They brought s'mores and cheesecake both nights. We brought our own alcohol and bath bombs for the tub which I really recommend doing. read more

My husband and I were there last week, to celebrate our anniversary. We loved the concept and ambiance, but disappointed with the lack of overall maintenance (cracked floor tile, stained sink, dirty microwave, worn bedding) in cabin 22 (Paris). I completed the survey, they have in the room. Someone actually called to discuss my comments, but used the excuse 'we are too booked to do proper maintenance', shows an overall unappreciative attitude towards their customers. The first time I was completely amazed! The second time he took me here to propose!! I said YES! and now 5 years later were are going for our anniversary! We stayed in the Sunset cabin for a night getaway. The staff was so professional and helpful. We arrived at our cabin by horse drawn carriage. The staff member came inside to show us around and how things work. The butler door was so cool. They leave little treats throughout the night, and if you need anything you write a note and within an hour you receive what you want. We ordered dinner from a menu, and they brought it to us and set it up by candlelight. We had a back deck with a pond view, and it was beautiful. The location is relaxing and just far away to unwind. Pros: Setting Staff Cleanliness Comfy Bed Treats through the night Heated Floors Fireplace Professionalism Cons: Rough Toilet Paper Some cabins are near highway All in all, this was a great night away.
