It's a functional Hampton Inn. The gym has one of everything so it is small but it is there. Another reviewer mentioned the light that won't go out. I had the same thing. I assume it is meant to be like a night light but it would be better if they did away with it. The bathroom looks recently remodeled but the tub creaks like it is just an overlay. The TV doesn't have streaming and had the least number of channels I've seen in a long time. I normally wouldn't care too much but this hotel is out in the middle of nowhere so there's nothing else to do. Plan on picking up dinner en route from somewhere else. Not to sure why so many bad reviews but I've only had positive experiences here and I've stayed multiple times. I'm greeted very friendly with each stay along with clean rooms no issues whatsoever upon check in beds are extremely comfortable rooms are very clean and smell pleasant unlike some hotels in this area. The new GM is an extremely sweet and kind person that always has a smile. I got stuck here last year during the horrible snowstorm that came through here and they provided food until we were able to leave the property. Pro's: PM check in girl was nice, smart, helpful. Got a room last minute, easily. The breakfast hostess was exceptional- nice, helpful, kept food in order and everything clean. Excellent job and pleasant personality. Con's: It feels like an old hotel that tried to remodel with a coat of paint and new pictures. The room smells like old damp carpet. The tub creaks like it's about to fall through the floor. The doorway has a 1/2" gap around it which lets in hall lights and noises all night long. The walls are paper thin. You will hear every click, clack, close going on in the hall and rooms around you - and the ongoing rush of traffic on the turnpike as if you're sitting outside. Over the last few years, I've traveled more for work and made it a point to maximize my hotel points into the Hilton chain. More often than not, I end up at a Hampton Inn, which offer a decent breakfast, a clean comfortable room, and a safe place to stay. In other words, a chain offers a certain degree of consistency that business travelers appreciate. The LaPorte Hampton Inn met the above requirements, but be prepared to get in your car to do anything, as this place is in the middle of nowhere. Actually, the Tollway interchange is right here, but the Front Desk publishes a local restaurant directory (including delivery options) for a reason. Now that I'm used to the territory, I'll have an easier time next month when I return. Let's hope winter weather doesn't get in the way, as the "Lake Effect" is real. read more

Limited staff . Checkin took too long. Breakfast was not staff so leftovers was all that remained. Wifi was usually off. Front desk was busy with customers complaining about no TV. Found this place last minute and was happy they offered a government/military rate. It was right off the highway and easy to find. Check in was easy and the staff was friendly. The room was clean and the pillows were very comfy! We also had a pretty view of a little pond and greenery outside our window. There wasn't much of a selection at breakfast and I wish there was a mini fridge in the room but overall it was a pleasant stay. read more

I don't feel this Hampton Inn deserves even one star! My wife and I stayed at this location for five nights and let's just say we should have left after the first night. If you're used to staying at nice Hilton properties, do yourself a favor and do not stay at this one because you will certainly be disappointed! Dirty doesn't begin to describe the place! The carpeting in the room was disgustingly filthy. The sink drained so slow that we had to brush our teeth using the shower drain! The doors at the ends of the hallway on the first floor (that lead to the outside) didn't even have a latch system on the doors! Needless to say, it certainly didn't seem exactly safe! The breakfast area is the absolute worst! The attendant was clearly focusing on other tasks rather than restocking the food. It would also seem that the management doesn't know how to place an order to keep from running out of supplies! The pictures will show how little of choices we had. No juice, no fruit, no oatmeal, no eggs, no sausage, no bacon, one choice of cereal. You get the idea. I would beg the Hilton representatives to send some people to this location to re-evaluate the premises! read more

I have no clue who the proprietor of this hotel is, but they definitely need some better to people to manage and operate it. First of all, the parking lot is in desperate need of maintenance. It is in rough shape. Now, at least six weeks ago, I booked a King Bed room with a whirlpool tub. I checked in the day prior to arrival, and it still confirmed my room to be a King Bed with a whirlpool tub. So, I get there, go inside, pick up my key and head to my room. Now when I walked into the room, I was puzzled to see two double beds, no whirlpool tub, no tub period, just a shower. So, I go up to the front desk and she said they hadn't had any whirlpools in awhile. Needless to say I was flabbergasted on why the Hilton HHonors website/App still had this option available. I asked the clerk if they at least had a room with a tub and she gave me one, albeit once again with two double beds, no king. Now, the hotel is located right on the I-80/I-90 Toll Road and the new room was on the interstate side and the freeway noise was pronounced. By this time, I was livid, I called the Hilton HHonors Customer Service. They were surprised by everything and called the clerk to get her feedback as well. Needless to say, I was able to cancel my reservation for last night and tonight as it was nothing of what I expected or booked. I will say the clerk, Mary was very kind and apologetic. It wasn't her fault. And both of the rooms they tried to put me in, looked clean and the property appeared to be clean. If you're going to stay here and want a specific room, you call ahead and make sure they have the room you request. read more

This hotel is seriously old. I don't know how long it's been out there but it needs some serious renovations. I stayed out here in July 2008. This was the first Hampton Inn I've stayed at in years or ever because I typically prefer to stay at Marriott hotels but there were none in the area. I remember thinking, wow seriously? This place is really old! I like that the Hampton Inn has the nice comforters but the cover looked like it had been washed so many times that it was impossible to make it look smooth anymore. (Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they wash it!!) If that was the only thing that seemed old about this hotel, I'd be happy with it but that comforter cover looked like the newest. You can imagine my thoughts about everything else... Also the location of this hotel is bad. The one good thing is that it's close to the highway but that's about it. There is nothing around there. When I wanted to get something to eat, I was recommended to go to some country club type establishment that was down the street. I didn't eat there but my co-worker said it wasn't good. You'd have to drive probably 10-15 min to find something else which sucks if you're getting to the hotel after a long day. I personally don't like having to hunt around for food. I searched high and low for hotels in LaPorte and there are a few but none that were associated with a well known brand except the Hampton Inn so you're taking a gamble if you stay at any other hotel in the area. I'd recommend staying in Valpo if you don't mind the extra 20 minutes. You have a lot more options in terms of hotel and meals etc. read more

The staff was incredibly helpful. Went above and beyond especially the woman in taking care of breakfast. The rooms are nice, pools nice and the free breakfast is good for free breakfast. I stayed here after an airport pickup at O'Hare. It wasn't far from Chicago and it's right off the toll road. Will stop here again. read more

We were traveling across the country and this hotel worked out to be the stopping place one night. The front desk clerk was borderline rude at checkin. Seems like we were interrupting his mid-shift nap or something. I thought it was odd that he didn't ask for the usual information, like vehicle make, model, color, license plate, etc. but oh, well. I don't know how he would have notified us if someone was messing with our car, but then he probably was napping rather than watching security cameras (which are all over the place, akin to Ft. Knox). The bed was harder than a rock, the bathroom had black mold growing in the tub and around the outside base of the tub, and the rooms looked like they hadn't been updated for quite some time.. The "free" (and I use that term loosely) breakfast was mediocre at best. There was an attendant on duty trying her best to keep up with everything. She looked a little haggard - maybe she should take a clue front the night desk clerk and had a mid-shift nap. The food was okay, the coffee was terrible and other guests were rude. I don't know why some parents let their kids run wild while other kids behave themselves and are respectful to their parents and the hotel surroundings. Back to the "free" breakfast, well it was very "free" in about 30 minutes. Good thing we hung around a bit before we hit the road. Based on this experience, I will think very hard and long about staying at another Hampton Inn. read more

Hampton Inns are my go to hotels. This Hampton would have put me off staying in another one. While most of the staff was pleasant, my granddaughter rode the elevator with one of the housekeeping staff, who apparently was rather dissatisfied with her job. She thought it was unfair that she had to make all those beds. She was on her phone talking about her dissatisfaction using many expletives. Breakfast the first morning was unbelievable. When we arrived at 9:00 am, there was no food. No eggs, no fruit, no yogurt, no oatmeal and no breads. You could have a waffle, if you didn't want syrup. So, Mary, from the front desk came in, after several guests asked where the food was, and started refilling everything, including reaching into the bag of fruit, WITH HER BARE HANDS. All the while mumbling under her breath, she didn't have time for this crap. Andrew at least had the courtesy to put on gloves. We didn't eat much. Returning from our day, we were not greeted when we came through the lobby. In the room, no clean towels had been provided. I did find a housekeeper and requested towels, which I was given. At 8:30 pm, housekeeping was knocking on our door wanting to know if we needed towels. Breakfast the next morning was better than the previous day. I am more than disappointed with this Hampton Inn. They seriously need to retrain their staff, ALL the staff. Oh, and they might want to move the furniture when they vaccuum! read more

Should be ZERO stars. Staff incompetent and unable to correctly process a pre-paid reservation through Hotels.com. Staff on duty untrained and unable to resolve an issue on THEIR end and essentially left us without a (prepaid) room after traveling 12 hours. We have a good deal of family just north of the Indiana border in Michigan and when we can't nail down a rental house, we'll stay here. The staff is great - what we've come to expect an appreciate from the Hampton chain. The rooms are typical with great *CLEAN* beds. The only problem we had was with the bathroom floors in both our rooms which were not clean and the toilet paper spool holder which had mold in it. We informed the front desk of this when we departed and they said they would let management know. The pool/hot tub was clean and nice - open until 11PM and the kids loved it. The lobby was comfortable and clean as well. We ordered pizza around 830PM and the front desk manager turned the lights on for us and let us know that we are more then welcome to use their plates, napkins and utencils for our meal as well as if we needed some for the beach. Internet access is free - unlike EMBASSY SUITES (see other review). If your looking to explore Harbor County, Michigan this is a remote place too stay - only 7 miles down Rt 39 from New Buffalo. You won't get many tourists here because it is so remote - which we like quite a bit. We'll continue too stay here when we are not renting a home - but we hope the floors are cleaner next time around. read more

Staff was polite. When I arrived at 11PM until at least 9:45AM the next day, there was a sign on the front desk saying no one was available but would be back. Took about ten minutes for someone to show up to check me in. The phone that was left there to call for someone, was dead. Showed up to grab breakfast at 9:45AM. Barely any scrambled eggs or sausage left. I asked for more and was told it took 30 minutes to cook and breakfast was over at 10. No milk or apple juice left either. This hotel is seriously in the middle of nowhere. We stayed here when we were going to a football game at Notre Dame and we didn't realize how far the drive is back and forth. The closest thing to the hotel was a few restaurants which I think were about 7 miles away or the other direction about 11 miles there was a casino. The hotel has been updated it looks like pretty recently so it looked really nice and the rooms were very clean no complaints there. They also do a free breakfast even on the weekends which is really nice and the room rate was not bad around $103. The only compliant is the distance to anything which isn't really the hotels fault. So I still give them a 5! read more

About what you can expect from a Hampton Inn. Everything was very average, except for the internet access. As a diamond member with access to free "premium" wifi you would think it would be faster than 1.5mbps download and .5mbps upload speeds. As someone who needs to transfer large files on a daily basis for work, or heaven forbid try to relax and stream a movie, I will not be staying here again. Btw, I tested both the free and premium access and they are almost exactly the same. Don't bother paying for the upgrade, you are just throwing away your money. read more

Breakfast was great.... real orange juice. The room wasn't all that I expected, no refrigerator or microwave. When I went to the vending machine to get myself a pop it stole my money. I called down to guest services and someone picked up phone and hung up which kinda pissed me off. I told the lady at the front desk and she told me to come get the $2. Ok that kinda got me a little more hot.....wtf Your machine steels my money and now I have to move mountains. She told me she was busy checking in guests and Id have to wait u till she was done and she could bring me my $, I said why dont you grab me my coke on your way. I shouldn't even had to ASK. If I have to wait more than 15 min my 4 star review will be a 1 star! Ok she brought me my coke.... we are all good. Do read the other reviews.... Stopped here on a road trip. The hotel was pretty nice. The staff was helpful and friendly. But the lady who took care of breakfast really went above and beyond! I didn't catch her name but she was amazing. They had omelets with ham in them, which being Muslim we didn't eat them. She went in to the kitchen and made us scrambled eggs! We didn't ask for them she just brought them to our table! It was so incredibly nice of her. read more

Ugh! This was one of the worst facilities we've stayed in. We choose Hampton Inn for the consistency of the experience. With two small boys, certain aspects of the hotel are essential - specifically the pool, which was closed/out of service while we were there. The workout room had broken equipment, the room smelled funky and the carpets throughout the hotel were dirty. The manager explained that they were under new ownership, but I would not recommend this Hampton Inn until they update their facility. One positive was the staff. They were courteous and helpful, I was particularly grateful for Gary's help and positive attitude. read more

The hotel is fine but we had a non smoking room and one step through the door and it was clearly smoked in and being masked by a Glade plug in. We kept trying to give the benefit of doubt but it kept becoming more apparent that was the case. Then we actually saw the plug in air freshener. Also when got home and opened our suit case everything smelled like the smoking masked room. All the rooms are advised as non smoking but someone missed this room. read more

Hampton quoted me $209+ for each night. At Blue Chip Casino, I paid $249 total for 2 queen beds and I only had to book 1 night. read more
