We contacted Glass Doctor to have the glass replaced. Pat, the technician, arrived on time. While he was here, we asked him to check the master bath windows near the bathtub to make sure those glass panes were tempered. They weren't! It took about a month for the glass to arrive, probably due to the special effort needed to create tempered glass panes, but only a few days to schedule installation. Both Pat and Ted, the owner, performed the installation. They also replaced a poor DIY-fix to missing trim around one window with trim that matched beautifully, free of charge! The effort took four hours, which is exactly what they'd estimated. The result was excellent: the windows looked virtually untouched. And the cost was far less than what we would've spent on new windows! Both Pat and Ted were professionial and great to work with. Highly recommend!

The order was delivered and looked OK on initial inspection, so I removed my original broken pane and installed the new pane. As you can see from the picture, it looks like they just took a sheet and randomly took a hammer to it. This type of "ageing" was not apparent on the samples. Artisan Glass took no responsibility for the faulty production and could only offer a 20% discount, as "the glass had already been installed". Look elsewhere for historic glass. There are better companies out there who stand behind their products and ensure their customers have the type of glass they expect.

Instead of just "making it work" or creating a huge mess with drywall dust, Zach proposed a brilliant custom solution: building a clean birch veneer box with custom trim. It looks stunning and kept my house completely dust-free. What impressed me most was Zach's integrity. During the install, a small piece of my old plastic molding snapped. Instead of ignoring it, Zach took full ownership and replaced the trim on both skylights with upgraded foam-backed wood molding at his own expense to ensure everything was airtight and uniform. Apparently they are unfamiliar with the fact that they are on Groupon so I had to call back when someone from the company was in the office to get on the schedule. They had availability for two weeks later. I wasn't in a rush so I don't mind the wait. I wasn't scheduled for the 12-4 time window. On the day of I had a work commitment that came up last minute. They were very accommodating when I called so I was pushed further back on the timeslot till after 3 PM so I could be home for the service. The technician Isaiah arrived and informed me what he was going to do. Afterwards he sent me a detailed report with photographs of my gutter system. For the first time I realize I had been hearing a fair amount of outside noise (which I'd apparently gotten used to), because these windows/doors are soundproof; now I don't hear anything at all from outside! And even better, the windows are easy to open, and my sliding glass doors actually slide well in the track, and are not shaking and drafty when it's windy outside -- major improvements from my old, builder-grade, 20+ year-old windows/sliding door. Further, the service crew was excellent -- careful, kind, professional, efficient, and they cleaned up everything afterwards. Roger, the foreman, has been doing this work for almost 30 years, and Jose, who single-handedly carried in/out the windows/doors, has been doing this work for 10+ years. I didn't get the name of the quiet third service person who was mostly outside and on the ladders, also very efficient. fyi, they did mention that working on the 4th floor of our condos from ladders was a bit more challenging as the original builder-grade windows had been made to fit by being packed/taped in place from the outside, which necessitated them having to actually break some of the glass to be able to pull the old windows out. But they did it - and did it well. Finally, Shaun, the project manager who gave me my estimate and oversaw the project from estimate, HOA approval process, to completion, was great.
