Ended up Really Beautiful and surprisingly fast, but I got stressed all along the way - Not really Old Bay Remodeling's fault, but I get stressed out for silly things and feels much better when things are completed. 1. Materials!!! - After the Job was sold, I was contacted by the office saying they do it a bit differently from other contractors. They purchase all materials up front. As a customer, you get the option to have it delivered on your yard or into their warehouse. The idea was this way, they do not have to stop for buying materials. I did a little research and quickly understood the materials and shipments were delayed and is causing a lot of disruption in the construction industry. Well - it is a good idea to have everything before we start work. I was right and wrong. Old Bay moved in record pace to get a 550 sqft addition completed in 7 weeks. But I lot my 1/2 acre backyard to materials - lumber, nails, siding, roofing materials for 2 months. The lawn was damaged from materials being on the grass for too long. Old Bay agreed to come back and reseed the lawn, so I'll give it a pass on that. There were literally 150 bags of concrete lying outside in 2 storms and I lost my sleep. Ended up that it was covered and protected properly. But I got so stressed out! If anyone is reading this, ask them to store materials in their warehouse and bring it when required. 2. Installers - Old bay had the same crew do the job from start to finish. They only had electric, ac and plumbing guys do their separate jobs. Apart from that - starting at demo, digging, pavers, carpentry, roof, windows, even painting done by the same 4 guys. I don't know how they did it, but they pulled it off. In my line of work, I do the same thing and become an expert at it. I was stressed out again and I hired a third party home inspector to make sure everything was done correctly. Very surprised the inspector also mentioned this is very unusual, but the job quality was up highly recommended. Howard County inspector was also surprised by the pace of things. He has inspected other work from Old Bay and said he has seen them drop off tons of materials in the yard before. 3. Rough Start and Payments - Not sure if this is a problem to anyone else, but we had to pay for all out materials up front. Old Bay promptly delivered the materials to our house and it came from a bunch of vendors. But paying all materials up front on a huge project like this runs into tens of thousands of dollars. Old Bay also sent many people to look at the job - there was an engineer, multiple plumbers, electricians etc. I guess they got many bids from their sub contractors. But I was not a big fan of 10 people visiting my house during the pandemic - They all had masks etc, but just too many people in the house. I called the office about this and I was told they do all the work in the beginning and when they get going, they will move fast. Another reason for me to stress out in the beginning, but was happy at the end. 4. Communication - It was very hard to reach the office and the project manager. Maybe I ask too many questions - I don't know. But when the job started, I would receive 2 calls every week from the office. Would casually check in, give me a run down of what is going to happen next week, ask if I had any questions etc. That was very helpful. These guys are on it! We all know finding someone to do good, reliable contracting work can be a pain. And it can be especially difficult for me because I'm a stickler for design that's both beautiful and functional while adding resell value (my mom's a realtor and I love HGTV! Lol). This is precisely why I really enjoyed working with Jerome from the Old Bay Remodeling team. Jerome is a realtor and I loved that he brought that extra expertise to our bathroom remodeling project. He reiterated with me how bathrooms and kitchens can really make the difference for buyers and helped steer me in the right direction on a few choices. Once the project manager took over, things moved quickly. Even quicker than I expected to be honest. So, I made sure to keep up the communication with the staff. This was fairly easy to do because I got all of the details of what I wanted in writing before any of the work began. We contacted 4 remodeling companies before choosing Old Bay Remodeling, After my wife's almost an yearlong research to find materials and selections to complete the kitchen, we decided to get bids from Angie's list. Old Bay came in highly recommended with a 4.7 star rating. We got other bids from contractors 4.5 stars and above. We had a contractor who showed up on TV who bid the job at 4 times the price of Old Bay and we had contractors who my wife called 'Chuck in the truck' contractors who bid my kitchen at 30% cheaper than Old Bay. The big name contractor came with his pamphlet, tried to push his branded materials on us - "You can only choose backsplash from this pamphlet" they said. We had to wait 10 weeks to get started they said. They will give us warranties on materials for 10 years, but we have to pay for labor, would something go wrong. The estimate was a 10 pages long with 9 pages of their marketing bullshit and one page of the actual estimate. Also wanted me to pay for design before they even gave me any drawings - not even rough drawings with the estimate. The Chick in the truck - unlicensed guy with his helper in a truck, said he can start tomorrow. We can purchase any materials and he will put it in. He gave us a labor only bid literally handwritten on a notepad piece of paper. I was pretty sure after the work is complete, I would never see him again. Then comes Old Bay Remodeling and Bill Keeling. Licenses and Insurance checked out. Reasonable 5 weeks delays to start the job. Detailed drawings and sketches with a 3d rendering of how things would look at the end. The process took about 5 days with some edits. But we were able to sign a well written contract, 3 pages long. But no marketing bullshit or content. 3 pages of how the work will be done, what is included, not included and what ifs. We went with them mainly because of Bill the sales guys and Sara the designer. The construction started and there were some hiccups, but mostly all right. The job was completed with a 2 day delay - I'll give them a pass on that. Trash was left outside for couple days, and I had to call the office to get it removed. But the actual kitchen looks great! read more

My contract for a kitchen remodel was signed in early March and Old Bay delayed start of work until end of June. It's is now end of September and the work is still not finished. They installed poor quality, damaged cabinets and never covered and inflicted so much damage on my hard wood floors during demo that we are still determining if they can be saved or if they need to be replaced (which early in I was told not to worry about, but now the owner doesn't want to take responsibility. Stain was rubbed over gouges, but the gouges are so deep the project manager said they can't be sanded down and there is paint splatter all around the floors edges in rooms where they painted.) Old Bay never installed protection for floors as discussed or protected furniture as requested or Hepa filters and Zip walls as per the contract and have done significant damage to my home. Poor communication and management systems caused the multiple crews and random workers sent out to make more mistakes than actually advance the work. The was no show after no show and at point no one showed up for 4 weeks apart from one painter who painted the wrong wall, and got paint all over crown molding in living room, and wall paper specialist who had to return to fix issues the following week. Owner not would respond to emails or texts until days or weeks later. Painting has been one mistake after another, from painting walls that were not part of the project and having to repaint all's from splatters and repainting molding to correct mistakes. I have been without a functional kitchen for over 15 weeks and the owner, Sarath Jerome does not care. From the beginning there were consistent promises of being done in a couple days or we just need another two weeks, and more time never seems to bring resolution. Tasks were done out of order, leading to workers having to redo things 2-3 times. Multiple times workers did things that were not in the SOW and had to be corrected, and there were times when people were refusing to do things that were in the SOW only to do the wrong thing, then realize later that indeed the SOW did include the task. Cabinet sides faces and doors are consistently chipped and painted over with mismatched repair materials. Neither Old Bay or their cabinet manufacturer (Next Day Cabinets/Forevermark) want to take ownership of the flawed cabinets, but just want to pass it on to me. I flagged these issues back in June and consistently throughout the process, but my input was minimized at every turn. Please avoid this company for your own protection. The owner does not set crews up for success, sources poor quality components, and does not take responsibility for mistakes and damages. It's not customer centric at all. Things seem friendly and functional at first but quickly devolve as assurances turn into lies and mistakes compound. Please see photos and be ware. Update as of 09/28/2021: Please see response from owner below as example of how he responds to customers he has left in distress. I am in the process of totaling up damages to hardwood floors (of which an estimate was conducted today), damage to wall paper and dented wall (quote received today), as well as awaiting completion the electrical work of faulty outlets, damaged furniture, stolen kitchen island, patching the hole in the exterior wall and rubbish removal. damages, as well as the cost of unfinished work are to be totaled and made less the balance owed and my hunch is this amount is a wash with the remaining balance. But we will let the numbers speak and the BBB assist with mediation and a determination about who owes what. I am confident the emails and text messages documenting my experience will substantiate my claims, and justice will play out. Finishes remain rough at best, I have still have poor quality cabinets with an uphill battle with the cabinet manufacturer, as Jerome will not take ownership of the problem. And I have been very intentional about not using my kitchen anticipating that any issues would be blamed on me, which is pretty silly, as the quality of the cabinets and other work should hold up to regular daily use anyway. I have made coffee in the kitchen and used the refrigerator over the past 20 weeks. I am simply relaying the facts of my experience with Old Bay, and can affirm that 4 of the pictures are from demo, which I posted to show how damage was done to floors. I don't think Jerome needs any help from me "trashing his business". Quality of work and customer service speaks for itself. I hired Old Bay Remodeling after meeting with their carpenter, Bill. He was very charming and the quotes he handed me were within my price range. Had I known I would have to hire someone else to redo the work entirely after they had already billed me, I obviously would have avoided this company like the plague. I had to pay $18,000 for labor only. I paid around $5,000 for materials. Almost everything that I was billed for was done incorrectly. The bathroom is a complete mess with doors that were hung incorrectly, so they cannot be closed. Tiles were not glued down properly so now the entire floor must be pulled up and the sink and toilet need to be pulled up as well. The mirror in the same bathroom was hung incorrectly as well (both off center and so close to the lighting that you would be completely unable to change the light in the light fixture). The tiles on the floor are scratched and the mosaic tiling on the wall is cracked and uneven, to the point where you can see it from outside of the bathroom. The sink fixture was put on backwards. The main lighting fixture was put on uneven and at an angle. There are spots where the grout is naked and cracked. The edging on the tile is not consistently installed. THIS IS AFTER THEY FIXED IT MULTIPLE TIMES. Originally, they installed the shower tile in a manner that would prevent it from ever draining. They repeatedly installed the tile incorrectly, and I mean to the point it was an eye sore. This is just one of the 4 areas they were hired to do. Consistently throughout the basement they painted very poorly, at points painting over my mirrored doors. They even painted over a sticker that was on wall instead of removing it. They only put one layer of paint and would put patches of paint on areas that I had told them looked uneven. In the entirety of the floor the electric sockets were to be replaced but were not. The cover was but the actual socket was left cracked and not matching the color of the cover. They put the wrong paint on the walls in many areas and the paint dripped on to the carpet, in many areas. The carpet that I purchased was brown and the paint was white and almond. The carpet was not installed properly to the point it stands up when you lift your foot. There were many areas that the paint was extremely visible. There were multiple teams that came to work on the basement and only one of them did the job properly. He informed me that if I wanted things to be fixed, I would have to go to the management (Sarath Jerome). Sarath Jerome is the owner of Old Bay Remodeling and according to his own workers, does not know what needs to be done when it comes to construction. They were not lying, and it appears to be the only consistent thing said by his workers. At one-point Sarath spent a whole day with a worker who came to my house to work on the punch list. He really cared right? No, as soon as he came in, he asked for the Wi-Fi password so he could work for his other job. You can't supervise if you don't know what is being done and if it is done properly. Trash was supposed to be removed daily from the property. It was not and, on the days, it was removed it was left on my front yard and not picked up for days at a time. When they stopped coming because Sarath ghosted me, the trash that they had thrown in my back yard (this was after the last worker came through and cleaned up after the other workers) stayed for months. No one picked up anything, and the workers left my backyard door wide open when they left for the night and did not tell me. There were no call/ no shows consistently. Workers would come for 2-3 hours at a time frequently. There was a huge language barrier between the workers and their supervisors. None of the supervisors spoke Spanish and they did not speak English. I am not kidding when I say they communicated with hand gestures. I told the supervisors of my discontent with what was happening. Bill who had originally priced me and told me that he would make sure that a good job would be done, told me to speak with Sarath because he was upset that I wrote a review about the services I received. I wrote the review after Sarath stopped responding to me. Sarath got in touch with me to tell me to take the review down and say that it was really my fault, and he would complete the work on the mosaic. I went to Angie's List and Home Advisor and Sarath accused me of doing the damage to my house on my own. I tried over 10x to get in touch with Sarath and he avoided my calls. At one point I was able to call the office and he almost picked up, but then he found out it was me and said to make an appointment. He was not available for the meeting at the said time. I hired this business to replace the ceiling in my living room, which was old and coming down. My experience with them was absolutely horrible in every way. They had tons of technical difficulties for what they assured me was an easy job: (1) they did not know how to install the lights I wanted (even though they were simple and straightforward), (2) they did not use the switch I bought (again, simple) and (3) they did not recognize that the paint I bought was paint (they thought it was primer). But most importantly they made huge promises about getting the job done in 3 days (because it was right before Christmas) and they ended up taking 5 days. Even then the job wasn't truly finished. They did not communicate when their guy was sick and ended up not being able to come in. The next day, the man came 3 hours later than they said he would and he only stayed for 20 minutes, basically doing nothing. We ended up waiting hours and hours over the course of the job. We had to move the furniture in and out of the room before Christmas and then again after Christmas. And then they had the nerve to suggest I pay extra for them to paint the walls, something that wasn't included in their original commitment to "make the room look perfect" - although afterwards they insisted that it was expected that the walls would need painting after they did the ceiling. This company made so many promises that they didn't keep. They were shockingly uncommunicative. And then they didn't understand why I was unsatisfied and didn't think I should pay full price. riting this review to inform potential Old Bay Remodeling customers of what we experienced with them. We hired this business to install a shower in our basement. It only had a half bath, and we wanted a shower put it. We are overly satisfied with the shower install. It is functional and serves its purpose. I gave them a three-star review due to their business practices, not the crew's craft who installed the shower. The team was great, nice guys, and easy to work with. Every step of the way, they wanted to ensure everything was installed the way we wanted it, from the showerhead, tile floor, and toilet paper holder. The crew was on their schedule; they never showed up at the same time every day. Some days they showed up at 9 AM, and other days they came at 1130AM. There were days they put in a full eight-hour day, but not every day. We had this done in January, so it was cold outside; everything they cut was done in the basement; no HEPA filter was used to catch the dust from cutting wood, tile, etc., so the dust got in every room of our 3000 square foot home. All along, we were promised their cleaning crew would clean this. When the job was completed, there was no one except for us to inspect their work. Not until recently did we find a crack in one of the shower tiles, a small crack but it's there. The day the job was completed was when the trouble started, the foreman wanted a check for the remaining balance; I told him the job wasn't completely done, the workspace and the house had not been cleaned of all the dust. I would not give him a check until the house was cleaned entirely, as they had promised. The house cleaner arrived, and she saw what needed to be done and decided to come the next day with help because she was informed it was a minor job. She asked me for the check that evening again; I said not until the house had been cleaned. Later that evening, I got a call from their salesman, Bill; he again asked about the check; when I told him the job had not been completed, he got agitated and hung up on me. The next day, the cleaning crew came and cleaned the whole house, I gave them the check, and we decided we were done doing business with Old Bay Remodeling. Not because of the quality of their work and construction crew, but their business practice and the unprofessionalism of their project manager and sales representative, we will not use them again. Our new kitchen looks good. But what stood out was the dust control methods used by Old Bay. They installed a zip lock system on the appliances and other items in the kitchen. That fancy equipment that looks like a dehumidifier pull in all the dust that is created as a part of the demo or sanding drywall. You can sit in your living room next to the kitchen and still have no dust or debris on your stuff. That is awesome! The kitchen is good, like you would see from any other licensed and vetted home improvement contractor. I have no way to post this via Baltimore Design and Remodel company, however Old Bay Remodeling is the former company of Sarath Jerome Puthussery. This man is a con-artist. He closed this company due to the amount of complaints and arbitration cases open against him. Opened Baltimore Design and Remodel and continued taking money for remodeling kitchens under this business name. Sarath had 60 days to complete a kitchen remodel that he told us could be done in 3 weeks. We terminated our contract after 72 days because the job is still NOT done. For multiple days in a row, no one would show up to our house, no one would answer our calls or respond to our texts/emails. Sarath Jerome Puthussery told us multiple times he was coming, but never showed. The last straw was he told us he hired a 24 hour plumber to finish the kitchen job. Plumber showed up for 15 minutes, left, never returned, and Sarath ignored our phone calls for the remainder of the day. We have not had a working kitchen for 80 days now. He has 90% of our money, and we will be finishing the kitchen on our own. The other flooring issues were repaired Monday. They offered to touch-up the paint issues their workers made but I had already paid the original painter to fix. We hired Old Bay Remodeling to repair our kitchen after a small fire. After signing the contract, it took a long time before they came out to do the work. Even though I was not going to be home that day, my wife was. After they told her they were finished, she payed them in full without thoroughly inspecting the work. The work was NOT done per the contract. I have been trying for months to get someone from the company to come out and fix it properly to no avail. Omg if there was a negative star option, that's what we would put. I'm not usually one to write reviews but please for the love of God avoid this company at all cost. Save your time and money! We started out with one "contractor" that eventually just disappeared and some of the stuff we asked for were omitted from the contract (they told us they did it as a courtesy so I didn't even think to insist having it on the contract anyway) and we never got it done. Our project manager was the worst. I work in a high security building and am not able to bring my phone so I had requested for them to contact me via email and they REFUSED. They installed a random cabinet that's completely different from the one we picked out and when I told them that it wasn't what we wanted they said they'll give us a credit (so that we pay less) if we're ok with keeping those cabinets. Wanting to save some money, I said yes. Then when the rest of the cabinets came in they called and said those were delivered with scuffs on them and asked me if they could paint all the cabinets white so we can just finish out the project (I was so over it at this point because of everything else prior to that) so I said yes. They later said we couldn't get the credit because the cabinets were now WHITE, the same color as the cabinets we chose. What?!??! Literally, I had to threaten them with legal actions, so they went ahead and gave us the credit they promised. When the project was over, they had lost my house keys!! And they shady thing was when I asked for my house key back the manager himself gave me a RANDOM KEY. I had to jump through hoops and continue to threaten legal actions for them to replace my locks because they were so negligent and lost my house keys. We had a little bit of a rough start but once the project was turned over to the project manager John, things went pretty smoothly. John is an excellent communicator and will keep you well informed of your project to include any delays or hiccups. (Which of course there always are on these kinds of projects.) Do not go with them. Just dont. I don't care how simple the task is- find someone else. Many reviews are fake, many examples of "their" work is fake. The owner clearly has zero previous construction or remodeling experience of any kind- no, being a realtor in no way counts. And you can tell from his aggressive responses to bad reviews what interactions with him are like. There's a pattern in genuine reviews where (1) homes are left in worse condition than before they arrived, (2) project deadlines are purely made up, (3) the owner responds as if HE is the one being taken advantage of. This was my experience as well, and it shouldn't be yours. The level of deceit and incompetence is nothing short of immoral. This isn't an exaggeration that you are putting your property at a genuine risk of being damaged by going with their "services". Do not underestimate the amount of work and expenses it takes to undo their damage. I documented and saved extensive amounts of evidence that prove their lies regarding "their" previous work and credentials. To old bay remodeling, let me reiterate, it's all saved and dated extensively. It's not hard to trace where images originate from. Stop ruining people's homes. Find some other line of work. I hired Old Bay remolding to remodel my master bathroom. They emailed me with my start day and a no call no show on the first day. I talked to the owner and he apologized saying he thought I was emailed or texted saying they won't be able to start that day. I was told my job was only gonna take 7days but they were in my home for 4 weeks and still didn't finish. I wasn't able to access my garage because they left their garbage roughly 14 contractor bags of debris in there. These guys showed when it was convenient for them once maybe twice a week, and didn't give notice the day before stating they weren't going show the next day. I could've went to Home Depot and grab some labors and and got a better job. The work the guys who built on our deck was good but before the job was done they up and disappeared. My husband then got messages saying they wanted their final payment because the job was done. We tried calling and leaving messages saying, "No, the jobs not finished. We won't pay you til you finish what we asked for." Their sales guy Jerome only texts my husband and was supposed to come to our house to go over what we still needed and of course he never showed. Again we start trying to reach him or anyone and a day later we get a text about some dumb excuse. We then (through text because they won't call to talk to you) explain what we need and we only get a response back about 1 item we need to get done thats going to take 2 weeks to get installed but no mention of the other items that still need to be done. The lack of communication and the fact you cal and NO ONE answers or calls you back is so unprofessional. They even tried to get away with putting lumbar meant for indoors on our outside deck. When my husband called them on it the project manager threw a fit. Our deck is still not finished, I am so ready to break our contract and find a competent contractor to finish the job. I used Old Bay Handyman this past weekend. They quickly responded to my request with no nonsense and provided an estimate. They never finished the job! My bathroom is still 'almost' finished. They started work in Sept, then had multiple changes in employees. The salesman was no longer working there. The job he contracted for, in writing, was apparently not possible for the installers to complete. Then a new 'Project Manger' took over and he was full of promises to fix it all. He is no longer working with this company either. Numerous phone calls and emails have gone unanswered over SEVERAL months. I am still missing a backsplash & molding for my bathroom. They replaced some siding in the front of my house and left wires (previously hidden) hanging across the front of my house. Very poor workmanship and horrible communication. Dishonest company from start to finish. We contracted with Old Bay to remodel our first floor - new kitchen, add a bathroom, and redo our floors. We selected them based on their insistence that they had their own work crew (not true) and that they would have a project manager who would be on site regularly to oversee the work. There was a project manager, but he was not regularly onsite, and often we were left to navigate issues/concerns directly with the workers, including delays in payment. They didn't install the toilet properly, and I had to get a second plumber to come in to fix their work after the owner, Jerome, ghosted me! When I threatened to leave a bad review, he promised to send me a refund...still waiting for my check Jerome! When they installed the light fixtures, they blew out the wiring in part of the house. So we had to wait for them to bring in a second electrician who said that the first electrician didn't install the outlets correctly, so everything had to be redone. The final finishes (molding in the dining room) were sloppily done. So disappointed! read more

I had several walls I needed refinished and prepared to paint (which I plan on doing because it's therapeutic). I got a fair quote from Old Bay Remodeling and the final price I paid was more than reasonable for how much work was done. I had original 50 year old wallpaper removed from two walls and had the wall skimmed, had a huge chunk patched where the previous owners had a security system installed and covered the hole with the actual system, and had a large area around a bedroom window repaired. There was previous water damage and mold under the peeling off paint - so the drywall and insulation had to be removed and replaced. Martin showed up on time and spent the entire day there the first day- and came back the following day after 5 PM after I got home from work to sand everything down and ensure everything was cleaned. He was very professional and efficient and does great work. I also spoke with their Office Manager Ambere several times during the job and she was very friendly and knowledgeable. This company displays absolutely no integrity or competence. Despite promises that two bathroom and one kitchen project would each be completed within "10-14 days" they each dragged on for five months. The owner arbitrarily reassigned one skilled craftsman to multiple projects simultaneously. Work was frequently sloppy and substandard and had to be repaired by professional licensed plumbers because of major leaks. Contractual promises were routinely ignored and cheap inferior products were substituted. We had to pay for contracted materials they were paid to provide. They abandoned a broken company vehicle until the condo threatened to have it towed. The owner is rude, insulting and arrogant and the promised repair contract was arbitrarily abandoned. Do not under any circumstances consider doing business with this company. You will regret ever dealing with them. read more

Finally,we decided to bite the bullet and update our guest bathroom . The old bathroom had terrible cabinets, very cheap countertops and an old bathtub with curtains. The mirror was eroding and looked like an antique. This is when we got 4 estimates from different companies. Old Bay Remolding happened to be one of them. We talked to Larry and he is the most honest salesperson I have eve met. He guided us away from some stupid costly ideas we had and had us use the part of budget to do something else. The best example is a big wall we wanted to remove at the center of the bathroom. This meant putting new beams and other technical things. Larry just came back with an improved floor plan and we decided to use the wall and build a closet on it. Saved us about $2500 right there. Compare this to all the other salespeople who just wanted us to spend all the money we had. We are definitely recommending Old Bay Remodeling to all our friends and family. read more

I used the Yelp service to contact handymen in my area for a few odd jobs that had started to pile up. Old Bay was one of the first to get back to me and could do the job right away. I looked at their website and was pleased to see that they are licensed and insured. Their estimate was reasonable so I scheduled the job. William did all the tasks (installing a touch kitchen faucet, removing an exhaust fan, and installing 2 light fixtures) quickly and professionally. I am very pleased with them and their work and will be calling them again soon to help with the many little problems of an older home. They are good honest people. Finding someone who can do decent contracting work is always hard but especially now. I heard about Old Bay from a friend that raved about their work and how fast they complete projects so I was excited to reach out about my bathroom. The workers worked really hard in my bathroom remodel and I'm so happy with the outcome. The main reason I wanted the old bay to redo my bathroom is to make it more modern, when we moved into our home our bathroom looked very 19th century. The project took a little bit longer than anticipated but I'm still very pleased with the results. The workers were very friendly, accommodating and they made sure to include me on every decision that was made. I was able to tell them how I wanted things from start to finish. Although I'm pleased with the results, there was one week where I did not have materials delivered which stalled the whole process which delayed the bathroom project is done. That is the main reason I'm giving them 4 stars. I would still definitely recommend them to my friends and family. read more
