After attending Fiesta del Sol 2026 in Pilsen on a gorgeous Saturday, a close friend and myself found ourselves at Pilsen Yards for early dinner at about 6P based on a recommendation. The front door host was SUPER engaging and made us feel immediately welcome. The restaurant is trendy with a very hip vibe and the requisite interior decor to match. We were ushered by our waitress through a very nice indoor dining room to an outdoor dining area table for two. I noticed the outdoor dining also incorporated large sections suitable for big parties. Service here is very very attentive, starting with the fact that, I asked for a different type of chair finding the metal ones to be slightly confining. Our waitress, Caoimhe, was so hospitable in bringing a much more comfortable chair immediately. We ordered some alcohol drinks, a Pisco Punch and a beer. The Pisco was something new for myself and I found it refreshing. For light dinner, we ordered items to share. We both really liked the Piña Colada Ceviche. It was so delicious...the tuna pairing well with pineapple, jalapeño, coconut, cilantro and served with taro chips. Would definitely get it again! We also ordered three tacos. One al pastor, one shrimp and one barbacoa...with our favorites being the first two in that order. The barbacoa was dead last. Although it was tasty, I felt it needed a sauce to bring up what I felt was lacking in moisture. The corn tortillas of all the tacos were fine. We also asked for a side of rice and beans. Apparently they don't do refried beans so our waitress Caoimhe, suggested their black rice. Honestly, it was just ok and we found that a little salt & pepper made it a little better. I'd suggest the chef try cooking the black rice in a rich chicken stock. Should I return, I'd like to try the adobo glazed shrimp or the fire roasted salmon...they sound interesting. All in all, Pilsen Yards left me with a good impression of a new type of Mexican restaurant. The menu is definitely curated with the mindset of "less is more". This isn't your little neighborhood taqueria or old school Mexican restaurant with fifty different food options, refried beans and rice or chiles rellenos. What actually made the experience memorable...was the good service of the staff and if you're really "nice", the amicably amazing host may invite you to peek into their VIP "Alderman Room". We decided to celebrate my coworker's retirement here, and wow... we are so glad we did! The restaurant is spacious, and the reserved table on the patio was exactly what our group needed. It made for the perfect setting to relax and celebrate. I especially want to recognize our server, Sarah. She mentioned she'd only been working there a short time, but you never would have guessed it. She was friendly, attentive, and incredibly accommodating. Even while she was busy, she made it a point to stop by every few minutes to make sure our drinks were full and everyone had what they needed. That's what great service looks like, and she absolutely earned the extra tip we gave her. The Shishito Peppers with Oaxaca cheese were outstanding! They had just the right amount of heat--enough to add flavor without overwhelming the dish. They were so good that I've already gone back just for that appetizer and a beer! The food overall was excellent, and the prices felt fair. Happy hour is definitely where it's at if you're looking for a great value. One of this place's best-kept secrets is The Alderman, their hidden lounge. Walking in feels like stepping into a classy 1930s speakeasy. It's dark, elegant, full of character, and the atmosphere is simply incredible. If you appreciate that old-school vibe, you'll absolutely love it. I honestly felt like I was born in the wrong era! Parking can be a little challenging since it's mostly metered, but for about $5 for two hours, it's well worth it. This place easily earns one of my very rare 5-star reviews. I love, love, love coming to this place. The eclectic decor, the kind hospitality, and the clear roof (huh?) were essential to our concert-going experience while waiting for EVNNE to perform. We met with our server, who immediately got us all water when we were seated, as it was a hot day for us, changing and chilling near the church nearby. We sat under the clear roof area near the patio opening, and we ordered chips and salsa quickly. They offered up the drink menu, and we got half-off margaritas, and I was happy with that. We had a larger party, but the staff was so helpful and made us feel at home. I got the Al Pastor tacos with the homemade tortillas. The flavor and the crunch were exquisite. I've been a loyal customer of this place for the past two years, visiting about three times a month before I took a six-month break from drinking. I returned today excited to revisit one of my favorite spots, but unfortunately had a deeply disappointing experience with the bartender, who I believe might be the manager or lead. He's tall, light-skinned (Latino), with a beard and short haircut, someone I've seen many times before. He was never especially friendly, but he was never outright rude either. Today, though, was different. He acted like serving me was a burden, barely acknowledged me, and made me feel like shouldn't be there. It felt unnecessarily dehumanizing, especially when I came in with a good attitude, was friendly, and always tip well when I visit. I genuinely love this place, but the energy he brought to the bar made me feel unwelcome and dismissed. He was arrogant and RUDE!! I went on a date for the first time and when I walked in, the ambience was great the decor very modern and just the overall great date place spot. The service here is very attentive and friendly. They have good recommendations. The issue I ran into was my meal. They mixed up my vegan taco with a beef taco. I thought it was shredded Tempe or seitan. After my first bite, I was mistaken. Rating: 8/10 I've been here several times and recently tried the burger--and I have to say, I've overlooked this. I typically go for the nachos, tacos, or ceviche, all of which are great and consistently solid. But the burger was a standout surprise. I actively seek out great burgers in the city--places like Red Hot Ranch, Au Cheval, and Mott Street--and this one can absolutely compete. It was well-seasoned, served on a perfectly crusty, buttery bun, and topped just right. Simply put: it was dang good. While the price point is slightly high, it's in line with the current norm ($15-$20 for a restaurant burger). This one has officially earned a spot in my top 10 burgers in Chicago. Drinks here are are always consistently excellent--well-balanced, fairly priced, and even the draft cocktails are impressive. Happy hour deals are great, especially the Thursday burger, beer, and shot special--definitely worth coming back for. The ambiance is another strong point: well designed, comfortable, with a great patio and an overall inviting vibe.
