When I discover a new great place it is always with mixed feelings that I write a review -…read moreespecially because sometimes you want to protect it from other people finding it (like my former yoga studio in San Diego!)! I moved to Connecticut about 6 months ago and after two years of getting my Masters and a whole lot of sitting around, I knew I had to do something! I like nearby The Pilates Centre, read some reviews, and saw that they offered a free intro class. I had never done Pilates before (used to do Yoga quite a bit), but really wanted to try something new. Even though I felt intimidated by what I saw others doing and the machines in the room, I felt welcomed in and supported. After the trial session, I signed up for a 10 pack and haven't looked back. I am nearing session #22 with the owner, Jen, and have already seen changes in my body. I am sold on Pilates and will be remaining a loyal customer of The Pilates Centre. I always feel confident that Jen really knows what she is doing and is supportive of whatever stage I am in with my fitness. She has been incredibly motivational with getting my fitness back on track. I haven't tried any of the classes yet, but once I feel more confident I could see myself mixing class sessions in with the personal sessions. I highly recommend coming in for a trial session - you've got nothing to lose whether you are a beginner or an expert Pilates practitioner!

I wasn't going to write a review, but I kept getting notifications from Yelp to write a review…read more Ultimately, I did not take a class here. I was rejected from taking the class. I wanted to take the 11AM mixed class and arrived around 10:40 AM. She was on the phone and I waited patiently. Upon her asking, I was honest that this would have been my 1st reformer class. She said instead of coming, I should have called first. What would have that done?! She went on about how the reformer has specific height and strength settings that others in the class already know their own levels. Why not test and tutorial? Why not set me up for success, teach me? Especially since I arrived early enough for that! The more I think about it, the less sense it makes! Or do I just *not have the look* she kept saying how I should've came to the 9AM beginner mat Pilates class. I'm haven't done reformer Pilates but I'm not necessarily a beginner. What made her even think I couldn't keep up, would require extra attention, or take away from the experience of others? Since she said the regulars have an expectation of the level of the class. She never answered, just repeated herself verbatim. I can attest, she was not rude in tone, just not answering as of *why* Getting to and from there was fine. The front desk and location on the 2nd floor were fine.

I advised the studio that I would…read morebe unable to use my twelve remaining sessions for an extended period of time, and requested a refund. I was unaware that state law mandates refunding fees for a gym or other exercise facility when there is a documented medical disability. When I became aware of these laws, Ms. Cipriano continued to ignore my request for refund. I filed a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General. Ms. Cipriano stated that I forfeited the promos that I received by not using them, and therefore would not refund my remaining $790. Ms. Cipriano's refusal to refund the money for my unused sessions reveals more about her as a professional in the healing arts concerned with health and well being than all of the soulful messages in the many emails that are sent out. Ms. Cipriani chose to ignore the state laws that had jurisdiction over the operation of Art of Control at the time that I purchased the sessions. The Connecticut business laws are even more stringent than those of NYS, yet Ms, Cipriani seems to believe that they don't apply to her and her practice. Ms. Cipriano's meme "Your health and safety are our first priority" doesn't hold up. I do not recommend working with Simona Cipriani or patronizing her services.

Seems like classes are typically small anyway which is nice for personal attention. It was my first ever barre class and she was great to make sure I was getting the movements right and showing me possible modifications. She was so nice and with a warm attitude and it was a pleasant experience and I definitely felt like I got a good workout. Otherwise the studio was very clean, with ample parking when I went.

Anyway, I have zero coordination skills and I'm also not the most flexible person in the world, but I certainly workout. I was once often found at HIT, Boxing, and many other classes on a near daily basis at The Edge...That being said, that gym is in Norwalk and I live in Stamford now, so it isn't the most convenient anymore, so I wanted to try something different. My friend, a Barre addict and success story, recommended I come check out a class with her... Obviously, I was thinking, how hard could this actually be? I'm just hanging on a barre for an hour and doing some weight curls. Honestly, the workout is like nothing I have ever done before, and has me using muscles I didn't even realize were there. The shaking is the real deal, and I love it. I also love only wearing socks when I workout :) Thus far I have taken classes with Stephanie and Emily, who are both excellent. I am just finishing up my month of unlimited classes, and will absolutely be purchasing more.
