This is the first time Ive felt truly happy with my haircut. You know that feeling you get when youre sitting in a stylists chair, theyre blowing your hair out. Your life flashes before your eyes as you realize this is not what you wanted to look like... you tell the stylist it looks great so you dont hurt her feelings and you rush home to wash your hair and cry? well thats NOT how I felt leaving Pikku. I strutted out of there feeling like jane birkin, and immediately sent my friends AND coworkers gratuitous selfie videos of my new hair. I love that Flo focuses on the sustainability of her salon. Oh, how I love Flo. After searching far and wide, I entrusted Flo with my wedding hair. I had a particular vision in mind and she totally got it. I had a blast at my updo trial and by the time I walked out I had several great options for my big day, but even better, I felt like we were good friends. She truly knows how to craft an updo and I was very impressed at the variety of looks she showed me in our short time together. On my big day, my typically unruly, heavy head of hair stayed put even through all my crazy dance moves. Plus she made my bridesmaids look amazing in all their varied requests - braids, updos, old hollywood style curls, and more. Pikku Salon is just damn adorable. It's so cute and real intimate. This was the first time in about 5 years that I've used a different stylist and I am so very happy I did. Florence is just amazing. Super talented, damn cute, and sassy- I like it. haha. She listened to what I wanted and she knew how to treat Asian hair. I wanted to keep my length but to update my layers with more volume as well as update my ombre with hints of red. And she did an amazing job! She complimented the updated ombre by adding additional low lights (i think thats what theyre called? lol) so when my hair grows out- it wouldn't look intense with my natural very dark hair.. thinkin' two steps ahead... this girrlllll lol. And my hints of red pops out! Pikku Salon is by appointments only- which is nice because then you have alone time with her and she gives you her 150% attention. Florence and an assistant did our hair for my wedding. They both did a great job! I found Florence through my makeup artist Kristine. They are a great team for wedding services! First I met her for a trial session and we tried 3 different updos. They were all pretty and she made good suggestions. I was so excited after my trial! Pricing was very reasonable and everything was smooth the morning of my wedding. She met us early at my venue, Crowne Plaza San Diego. Florence is very entertaining and my mom, bridesmaids and I really enjoyed her company! We were all happy with our hairstyles that day and are grateful to her for making us beautiful! read more

This is the NEW location of Pikku Salon which opened in a few months ago. There's no customer parking lot, so you'll need to find street parking. There's a lot around the area, so you shouldn't have much trouble with that. The entrance is on the Broadway side of the building towards the center of the block/building. You'll have to get buzzed in to enter the building, they're suite 102. The salon is cute and intimate and has a clean, open, welcoming setup. As you walk in, they have a section showcasing their merchandise, a nice little waiting area, and, I believe, 3 hairdresser stations. As soon as you enter, you are kindly greeted and offered a beverage. Spoke with both Flo, the owner, and Gercy. Both are very sweet and extremely talented. They do female and male hair ranging from haircuts, styling, coloring, updos, braiding. You name it, pretty sure they do it. Make sure you make an appointment with them for your next haircut or upcoming event and give them a try if you haven't already! read more

I've been getting my hair done by my aunt for somewhere around 5 years, but her being in SJ and my being in SD makes it difficult to maintain my hair. After speaking with a few friends, I decided to contact Gercy. Words cannot describe how much better I feel after a visit with her. Gercy is really easy to talk to, and she's great at what she does. I searched for an "eco friendly" salon through Yelp and Pikku was one of many that popped up. The reviews and pictures helped in solidifying my decision to try this salon out and I couldn't have been more happy about my decision Flo communicates and listens very well to all your hair needs. She has a lively personality that made the whole experience fun. We talked about anything and everything! She uses cleaner shampoo/conditioner products which was my biggest concern since I have switched to green beauty products. Flo is the best. I came to her during a very vulnerable time in my life, worked 12-15 hour days 6-7 days a week and never spent time to take care of myself. I walked in to her space and she welcomed me truly as a friend right away. I shared stories with her, while she trimmed my hair and she made me feel less alone and listened too. I was honest that I cut my own bangs, she gave me tips of how to do it! I'm thankful for her and would recommend her to all of my friends, but I know she's super busy and has a full schedule so I feel honored to be able to be a part of that loop! I am only writing this review based on my experience of not actually being able to get an appointment, as I believe that also reflects on the business. Not on the services provided, which seem to be good for people who get a reply back to make an appointment. In the last three weeks, I have called , texted, and even tried to contact someone through their facebook page. Just trying to get an appt. Even though a friend of mine literally had the same experience when she tried, and ended up having to go to the salon, to make an appt in person, as she also did not get a reply to any of her messages. I am all for supporting local business, but I also expect a certain amount of professionalism. Flo is EVERYTHING!!!!! After a few pretty crazy wedding trials, my sister (who may now be referred to as my wedding savior) referred me to Flo, now a.k.a. Patron Saint of Wedding Hair. Flo is warm, patient, and talented. She listens and creates exactly what you're hoping for. (Listening - not always a big thing in the bridal industry...) In searching for a wedding hair stylist, I just happened to find an all-around awesome stylist!!! In the time leading up to my wedding, I went to her for color, a cut, and multiple stylings, and loved it every time. At the wedding itself, the other girls were amazed at how her wedding hair stylist talents could do an updo at 8am that was still functional at 1am! She did both long hair and updos perfectly. Everyone was thrilled with their hair. She does bridal makeup as well, but I had such a long list of people wanting her hair skills that was had to skip it. HIGHLY recommend her makeup services (see "she actually listens to you", above). In the bridal suite with us, she was like part of the party. She brings talent and great energy where she goes. She's now offering additional wedding services (flowers/event design) that I would have used if they had existed at that time (ask her!) It took me so long to find a colorist in San Diego who knew what they were doing and understood the actual science of hair. I found Flo via Instagram and loved her work right away. I made my first appointment with her and she gave me all the info I needed prior to coming in for that first meeting. Firstly, parking is a plus in this area. Street parking, but no time restrictions and that's absolutely important when you go in for a 4-hour long appointment! Her salon was very easy to find. Right off the bat, Flo was so easy to talk to. It seemed as if I'd known her for years! She definitely listens to what you want as well, and she will also suggest and recommend things that would work for you & the well being of your mane. I got a color, cut and style for a very reasonable price compared to other salons that tend to charge crazy amounts for results you didn't want. Such a overdue review. We learned of this salon through my longtime stylist Gercy G. My husband expressed wanting to cut off his long locks since it was hindering work and also due to the exposure to sun and salt air it was starting to show signs of damage. But he did not want anyone to touch his hair. So when he expressed this I knew where and who he needed to get it done. Since we were flying back to my hometown I ensured I reached out to her. Her new location was in Golden Hills I was excited to show that area to my husband who was born a d raise on Oahu all his life. So we made the appointment in the morning. Unfortunately there is no parking besides street parking but since it was early we found a good spot up the hill. I loved the view if downtown San Diego in the horizon and the posh rustic fusion look of the building. It was clear it was a secure building which made me feel secure if i ever made this appointment later in the evening. Gercy greeted us and let us in. The studio had a open work space with some of its own charms which appealed to me. Gercy listened to our needs as always. She cut first my husband's hair and styled it appropriately and recommended a hair balm for his wavy curly hair. For me she cut it and style it to show me what a beach wavy resembled with instructions which I love and offered a good hold fritz spray which was organic. As always she has done an amazing job and we were very thrilled with our results. Cost wise...it is average to high but a good hairstylist is hard to find and as experience plus talented as Gercy. So if you ever need someone with creative juices from haircuts, styles, braids and colors I highly recommend Gercy!!! You won't be disappointed. read more

I loved the photos I've seen here on Yelp of hair and makeup by Flo, and so called the number listed on this page to try to set up an appointment for wedding day hair/makeup. The call went to a recording saying that if I wanted to set up an appointment with Flo that I should text her. I did, six days ago, asking if she would be available the morning of my wedding, and it took her two days to respond. She said hello and asked what my name was. I responded with my name, and didn't hear anything back. I texted again a day later to follow up my request; was she available the morning of the 14th for an appointment or not? That was three days ago, and she still hasn't responded. I tried to contact her via the Facebook page for Pikku Salon, as well, and didn't get a response there either. SUPER unprofessional and disappointing. I really liked the photos of her work and have been holding off on making an appointment elsewhere in the hopes that she would be able to do my hair and makeup, but apparently that won't be happening. Never been blown off by a business before, WTF is that about? Get your act together! read more
