My poor children. It's been about 2+ years since my children got a proper haircut due to the pandemic. My oldest was starting to look like Rapunzel and my youngest was not far behind her. When hair starts getting stuck when trying to tuck in your shirt in your pants, you know it's long! I've always relied on Pigtails and Crewcuts wherever we are stationed since my kids were small. It's a little pricey for a haircut that lasts no more than 15 minutes but the shops are well designed to provide distractions for the much needed service, so to me, it's worth the extra coin. Colors, mini vehicle seats (although my kids have outgrown these now), treasure chest, animal crackers (pre-Covid) and lollipops. Through the eyes of the young 'uns, what's not to love? I called the shop to see how they were proceeding during these times. The woman on the phone said that they do not take walk-ins and everyone had to make an appointment online which was a breeze. I read the reviews prior to booking and decided to go with Lindsey. So glad I did! It also worked out well, because Lindsey was the only one with back to back appointments available on a Saturday morning. We showed up promptly for the appointments and she was ready to go! She was super sweet and so good with the kids and gave them a fresh cut. She also made sure to check in with me every so often to make sure that is what I wanted. She even gave them French braid pigtails that would probably take me hours to do, all within a 15 minute time frame for each kid. This place is amazing! We brought our son who has never had a professional hair cut before and I won't lie I was worried this was going to to be a bad time for the little dude. Nope! I have been to this establishment a few times already. My daughter had her very first hair cut here. Today, for reasons out of my control, we were 9 minutes late for our appointment which was for a kids cut. We arrived and the woman at the door said, "your appointment was at 1, we can't take you because it would take at least 20 minutes." I said, "Can you just do a bang trim instead of the full cut?" Answer, "We can reschedule her for a different day unfortunately we are all booked today." The one star is because I did not feel her answer was sincere, she was standing there with the entire establishment Empty, not one other customer telling me she couldn't even do a bang trim. I have had her bangs trimmed here before and we were in and out in less than 15 minutes. We could have been out before the next appointment is the point- to include cleaning the kids car she would have sat in. I ended up sitting in my vehicle in front of the place for another 15 minutes calling other hair cut places, I did not see anyone enter the their establishment. I just felt like they really didn't care for my business and felt like she could have served us but just didn't feel like it. Will never return. I have been here during the pandemic before and there have been at least two children getting their hair cut at the same time in case anyone is wondering if that affected her reason for turning us away. read more

Super affordable and there are toys to play with in the play area as well. We had Mrs. Peggy who was very calm, relaxed, and patient with our son. Aliyyah was awesome ! We went for my son's first haircut and she did so great with him . The staff member at the front desk was also super polite, welcoming and helpful . The place has multiple vehicle chairs , which was a huge hit with my car-loving son . They also had a treasure chest with toys for the kids, tvs, lots of kid-friendly art on the walls, and a train set to play with while waiting . First the first cut, they gave us a great picture print, his first lock of hair, and gave him animal crackers after his cut. Came here to take my 4 year old to get a long needed hair cut. It took a lot of convincing, but after her saw the pictures of the planes and cars online he was okay with it. We booked our appointment online with Lindsey because we saw she had good reviews. We got there right at our appointment time and did not have to wait. Lindsey let my son look at every chair and did not rush him into picking one. We got my son in the airplane chair and she asked me what we wanted done with his hair. I showed her a picture and we went from there. She kept making sure I was okay with everything being done. She was also very patient with my son even when he would try to touch where she was cutting. There is a nice waiting area if you have multiple kids. There were toys and couches in the waiting area. There is also an older kids side where they can play video games while they get their hair cut. I am not sure if they can choose their game or not, but I wish this was available when I was a kid. read more

We arrived within their last hour of being open and we signed in, sat down, and waited for my daughter's turn. There was about 4 kids in front of us and 2 ladies cutting hair. We did the first haircut package and we got a card with a photo of her after the cut, a baggie of her hair, and her name and date on it. I wanted my daughter to just get her hair evened out and with bangs since her hair always falls over her face. The hairstylist was very nice to our daughter and always asked me if it was okay to give her animal crackers and a lollipop. Before cutting, she consulted with me on how much she would cut to even it out and showed me the section she thought would be my daughter's bangs. I wasn't sure how my daughter would behave getting her first haircut since she hates going to her pediatrician, but she behaved very well and they made her feel really comfortable. Afterwards, she got her hair braided and a flower clip. The place has a sitting area in the back and on the sides between the seats where they're cutting hair. I believe there was about 4 little car/plane seats, 1 seat with a booster cushion, and 1 regular seat for the bigger kids. In the waiting area there is a train toy set and one of those toys that you see at other place's waiting areas. There are bows, hair products, and other products for sale up front and in the back. There are also TV's at each station for the kids to watch. I decided to go here than any other hair salon because I really wanted my child to feel comfortable. And I'm glad we went here, we'll definitely come back. read more

My son hates getting his hair cut! HATES IT! He screams bloody murder and squirms like worm drowning in a puddle of water. The ladies at this place are very experienced and you can tell that they are used to having children who hate getting their haircut. They know exactly how to handle the situation. They cut their hair fast and do an excellent job! They have a play area for parents who have to wait with their kids. They give kids cookies, and have cool seats for them to sit in...and they can get a lollipop after. I have no doubt that eventually my son will love this place. I have been singing this salon's (and Paula's) praises since our appointment yesterday! My oldest son is autistic and my youngest has never liked the sound of the clippers. We have tried numerous salons both kid-centric and general alike, and it has always been met with massive meltdowns, rushed haircuts, and disappointing results. Then we were referred by countless people to this place, and specifically Paula when I mentioned my son's sensory needs, and we were not steered wrong! So an family member older in age had cut my sons hair. Although their intentions meant well I was absolutely distraught with my sons long hair and curls being looped and on top of it so unevenly so... not to mention they never ran any of this past me before doing so... I mean your kids first haircut is a milestone so I was livid that was taken from me but I'm getting off track...so yeah I was the water works the whole shabang. I called and they were so understanding reassuring me that they've seen it all and they could help. We made an appointment and everyone was so friendly he sat in a little fire truck and although he was definitely scared he was so brave and held back his tears. The final product was great! They styled it so it's quite playable for a young infant to either do a sweet comb over for family events or spice it up to putting a little product and producing a playful faux hawk.The hairstylist I believe her name was Kim did an amazing job. They even gave me a little baggie of his first hair cut (with us - mom & dad) and helped me pick out a product for styling his hair. They are understanding, attentive, and care about quality and a clients needs.. and executing it! it was such a great experience. I want to start off to the good part because every bad has a good, I booked my daughter a hair cut here and I've gone to pigtails in Virginia Beach side but this time decided to go to the Chesapeake side (cause I was in the area ) anyways the hair cut was good, but I noticed that these women were mute they didn't want to speak to anyone and I understood, (I understand nobody needs to talk to the clients) but you are literally cutting children's hair. Now let's get to the bad part, this woman (if this is you please respond to this comment ) she had tattoos and she was with 3 boys. She was very bubbly & once she left the hair dresser ends up talking smack about her saying that she was "on something " just cause she was so talkative, now what got me MAD was that this father came in with his son, (son had special needs) and ended up being difficult to the hairdresser & the hair dresser immediately kicked them out! & then after they left she proceeded to say "I'm not going to be dealing with that " WTF !!!! This is sad. I didn't tip for that reason and it made me very uncomfortable. This place is just bad and to the lady with the blonde hair and tattoos and the father with the special needs son I'm so sorry. They were talking about you, and if they are going to lie about it I'm going to stand my ground because my husband my 8 year old and I hear what you all did. I was so nervous bringing my 22 month old son in for a second haircut. We went to a regular salon back in December and he absolutely hated it and wouldn't sit still (not even for all the candy in the world), so needless to say, his haircut was a little screwy. I brought him in to pigtails and crewcuts thinking they would know all the right tricks to cutting a toddlers hair, and they sure do! Poor costumer service for being our first time in this place, we got the first haircut package but you pay extra the shampoo And if you want to style it is also extra? Then why is it a package? The lady doing my daughters haircut washed her hair and soaked all her back, I asked her to dry her off with the hairdryer but she did it when she finished cutting her hair, so my poor baby had to sit all wet... Also I told them I wanted my baby's hair wavy they didn't know what to do or how much extra money will cost, the lady at the front desk said to me "hold on I need to call and ask because we normally don't do that?? My son thought it was too babyish when he saw the cute chairs for toddlers. There was a fire truck, police car, jet, etc. (see photo) Then he saw that the side for bigger kids had video game consoles and he thought it was pretty cool. The stylist asked how he wanted it cut and asked questions to make sure she understood what he wanted, then she asked me if that was okay. His haircut turned out great. We tried this location on a whim and it was great! We came the day before July 4th and the staff was still awesome. We only had to wait 15 minutes to be seen and I love how they called my son's name when it was his turn. They didn't do that at the Virginia beach location. I grew up in VB but moved to the DC-metro area. On the recommendation of a friend, we tried out this shop while in town visiting my parents. I brought my 3 kids in for first haircuts, girls (4 and newly-turned 3) and baby boy (1 tomorrow). Walked in on a Tuesday around 11:30am and was immediately seen. Staff was welcoming and very good with the kids! Opted for the *slightly* more expensive first haircut package for baby boy since his cut would look the most different pre/post cut. While dropping about $20 before tip for a kids' haircut (which takes less than 15 minutes) might seem pricey, it was worth it in my mind ESPECIALLY for a first haircut. I imagine it would be even more worth the money if you have a child who is maybe a little bit tentative in new situations/ afraid of getting a haircut. Libbie and Liz handled the kiddie-wiggles well. What we loved: *Libbie was *especially* good with the baby and our more shy 2 year old daughter. *Liz did such a beautiful job braiding my 4-year-old's very long hair after her cut, so M felt like she was getting such a special treat *Fun waiting area with a train table and toys (if you end up with a wait) *Themed chairs (police car, airplane, etc.) for the kids' haircut stations. My nearly one-year old was "steering" his police car almost the entire haircut. *Patient staff who are all about making sure kids and parents are at ease *Our older girl received a complimentary, beautiful braided hairstyle after her haircut. Younger girl has fine, shorter hair, with bangs so we kept it down. BOTH got to pick a cute little flower clip to accent the hair *Baby boy's first haircut package included an adorable keepsake photo (that they really worked to get him to smile well for) and a little bit of his cut hair. *They had animal crackers for baby and Dum Dums for the girls afterwards (which of course they asked if the kids could have before offering) *The kids got to pick out a little treasure out of a large treasure chest after the haircuts. *We happened to come on a Tuesday, which as I found out is "Double-Punch," so you get two punches for each haircut on a little rewards card. The 10th punch is 50% off. So with the three cuts, we're almost done! Things to be aware of: *There are no appointments. You can always call, though, as you're walking out your door to get put on a waiting list. Like I said, we had no wait when we came, and we were in and out with our three kids within an hour. While there was no wait, there was always a kid in both hairdressers' chairs the entire time we were there. We were so pleased with the haircuts. I'll be back when we're in town, definitely at least for the baby boy whom I wouldn't want to have to bring to a regular hair salon and hold down in a chair, possibly screaming, while people give us side-eye :D read more

I brought my 13 month old son here for his first haircut and I have to say, despite some tears, it was a great experience! I knew my son wouldn't be thrilled with this new experience, but he has his daddy's fast growing hair, and it was time to get it out of his face. We got there shortly after opening and even though there were a couple of people ahead of us, the wait was very short. The play area was a good distraction too. Once DS was in the fire truck chair he started to get upset, but Paula worked quickly and was so kind, and despite all the movement from my son, she was able to give him a nice, even haircut. These women are talented! And for his first cut, we were given a photo card with a snip of his hair as a keepsake of our event.
