I was going to let this go, I simply can't. My son and I vacationed in Pigeon Forge for spring break last year. We went into this here pottery place. He picked out a couple of mushrooms as a gift for me to put in my fairy garden back home. My son Is very giving, generous, and polite. For some reason the woman at the counter acted like he was vermin. Very rude very stuck up! I almost told my son to save his money he is so gentle he never even picked up on how rude she was towards him and I know he would have asked me why and I would have told the truth right in front of her. I wish I had cause he didn't have very much spending money as it was. Me being a single mother I'm not poor but a mortgage on my own isn't a cake walk! They were not cheap either! Now when I look at them I should think how kind hearted my son is and what a thoughtful gift but all I think about is how rude that woman was and how much this company didn't deserve a dime of his money he saved and earned for our vacation. When we can afford to go back needles to say we will NOT be making a stop to pigeon river pottery! read more

Pigeon River Pottery was one of our first stops after our lunch at the Old Mill restaurant. Inside there is a potter giving a pottery demonstration. The store is loaded with garden pottery, kitchen pottery, vases, drinkware, and a wide variety of unique items. They also sell the salt and pepper bears used at the Old Mill restaurant. My guess is that this is the only place you will find them. Among my finds was a beautiful carved out full size mug with the Old Mill itself carved into it. It came in several different colors but when I saw the price of $125.00 I then realized that the majority of these items would be more decorative than functional. I could never use that mug for drinking seeing it would require the utmost of care. True they can be used as functional pieces but to me the cost doesn't justify it. I'd truly be afraid something could happen to it if handled the wrong way. Nevertheless I loved the salt and pepper bears that I saw at the restaurant and proceeded to pick out a set to put on my kitchen table. My daughter helped me find a good set. This is truly a place you buy something nice for someone without wasting your money on the thousands of souvenirs and knockoffs found throughout the region. They wrapped my set very carefully and am glad to have my own unique piece of pottery from a great store. Located in the Old Mill Village, there is a parking lot nearby. read more

Today was my second time visiting the pottery store, and I just love picking out gifts for family, friends, and even for myself here. The store is beautifully laid out with all of their pottery. You almost don't know what to look at and can easily spend an hour here perusing all they have to offer. The pottery is drop dead gorgeous of course, and they have so many beautiful mugs, plates, vases, etc. to choose from. But also, do not overlook all the other gift worthy items you can find here: candles (in their pottery), soap rocks, beautiful dish towels, unique jewelry, greeting cards, kitchen items, and even garden embellishments. My splurges today included jewelry and dish towels. I already cannot wait until my next visit here and if you've never been, please just go!! read more

What a beautiful place, filled with so many creative and functional pottery pieces! My husband and I loved our visit here, and found a few Christmas gifts here. The woman checking us out was super sweet and fun to chat with while checking us out. Most things are priced appropriately for being handmade items, which might be more expensive than what you'd expect to pay, but it is very fair compared to the general prices you see for handmade pottery. I wish I had been able to see their live pottery making demos though. This place is definitely worth a visit! read more

I spent a day in Pigeon Forge exploring the Old Mill village of shops & restaurants. The Pottery was my favorite and very reasonably priced for some lovely utilitarian pieces with interesting glaze combinations. I was drawn to the gorgeous dinnerware but a full set of that is out of my price range, although very do-able if you just want a couple pieces or don't invite the entire Royal Family to your house. That area also has some large & lovely artistic bowls. Horn spoons caught my attention as well. There is a space for live demonstrations in the back but none were going on during my visit. Right around from the entrance is an area full of pitchers, vases and small bowls. The seconds room had a good variety and was 20% off. Past that was a random assortment of clay jewelry, birdhouses, and other creative do dads. I left with 2 lovely green pieces for my kitchen that I now enjoy in my home, thanks to careful wrapping & packaging by the team at the register. read more

Really cool stuff although a bit pricy. We pick up a new piece every time we are through and grab Angee as Christmas presents as well. They really do make the plates for the cafe. Often a potter is working in the back or doing a demo and talking with guests. If you are interested in a set of dishes you are looking at about $100 per setting for a basic place setting, which isn't too bad. Didn't ask if they would give you a discount if you did 8x. Wife kinda wants a set. Next trip may be a bit pricy... read more

This, by far, was one of the highlights for me of our Tennessee vacation. The entire area is definitely touristy with all the bells-and-whistles crap that comes with it. So it was nice to find an authentic, handmade store populated with work from real artists. The entire Old Mill area was fun to explore because it was so clearly an artist's mecca in a sea of tourist traps. As a fellow potter, my review is probably going to be a little different than most. This shop features largely functional pieces - bowls, kitchen-wares, bath items. Perhaps the coolest was the display of ceramic sinks toward the back. There were quite a few interesting glaze combinations on display -- but I was surprised that in terms of surface design, there weren't many options. Also, most everything was wheel thrown, with some modified hand-building. Not necessarily bad - but in terms of artistic creativity, not that exciting. Most likely a result of being a touristy sort of place and the majority of customers not really knowing much about the art form. Speaking of that - I was pretty disappointed with their seconds room. It's small and the discount was only 20%, which is far lower than other places I've been to. Also, it was unclear to me how or why they made choices about what to put there because I found several pieces on the main floor with flaws (cracks, glaze crawls, problems with footers, etc.) that were being sold full-price. My guess is that again, most people don't know to look for these things as markers of quality ceramics, so they just put everything out and hope someone buys it. Overall, I enjoyed being able to spend a couple hours in my "zone" and I found two absolutely beautiful pieces that had to come home with me. They have quite a range of items at different price points from $10 to $100 or more, so you can find something on just about any budget. If you're looking for a handmade souvenir of your vacation, I'd highly recommend this place. Just make sure you're taking your time examining the pieces before going all in on the purchase so you don't end up with a dud. read more

Totally worth checking out if you're in the area. Pottery demos in back... Gets packed during peaks hours and seasons which makes browsing hard to enjoy... But so many cute items... Walked away with an adorable magnet vase that's going to live on my file cabinet as so as I procure a air plant :) gotten lots of little dishes, mugs and seconds here over the years... Some beautiful glazes... Kinda pricey but love supporting the local craft... Bonus on our recent trip someone making fresh kettle corn outside the store! read more

Today marked our second visit to Pigeon River Pottery. We were impressed earlier this week when we stopped in by the warm and kind customer service we got from the young ladies working there. We were also impressed by the ample selection of handmade pottery and ceramics. There are some items in the store that you will probably never see again, such as the handcarved wood fireplace mantle in the back. It was a $3500 piece, but one of the best woodcarvings I've ever seen. I regret not getting a photo of it to post on here. We returned today to purchase the ingenious bacon cooker. I don't know how to describe it other than to say it cooks bacon and collects all the fat at the bottom. I will post a picture when I get it home and unpacked. Unfortunately the service today wasn't nearly as warm, inviting, or kind as it had been earlier in the week. The staff today was older and seemed less interested in explaining things to us. Nevertheless, this place deserves four stas for how awesome the pottery is, the fact that they do live demonstrations, allowing you to watch the pottery being made, and that the evening staff is kind and informative. read more

This pottery store had everything you could want and more. Every item was handmade and unique, with beautiful glazes of all sorts of colors. There were plenty of workers who were friendly and answered all our questions. It was fun to walk around and read all the different labels and explanations of all the different ceramic pieces. I was expecting this place to be really expensive, but it is not for what you get. I watched a thrower make a few things and she was really kind to answer my questions. I picked up a knitting bowl with one hole and a "swoope", I think it was a very innovative design for a knitting bowl. Love the color. The sales people were very helpful. read more
