I was greeted with an acknowledgement that a cook was out sick and there would be delays. There was some wait, but getting dinner probably took an hour or so and I made it out in time to see the sunset which was my goal. The menu here had some vegetarian selections and an emphasis on local produce. The miso-fried cabbage over fragrant jasmine rice was a preparation I hadn't had quite this way before; most reminiscent of Chinese sauteed cabbage I've gotten a few times. The smell was a bit too on the bitter side, but the taste was savory. There wasn't a lot of protein here, so I added a chickpea salad with fresh-tasting dill that did hit the spot. A beverage based on rosemary syrup delivered a ringing flavor as well. The menu didn't quite match my preferences; I noted the tofu-based option I saw online was not available when I got there in person, but I appreciated enough that they had something worthwhile to offer. Food was fine- service was not. The server was obviously very distracted and failed to put our dinner order in. After 30 minutes she came to the table and apologized that she forgot to put the order in- she said the pork chop would take about 30 minutes. It came out 50 minutes later. We had our 10 month old with us that was getting restless waiting for her dinner. An hour and 20 minutes from the time we ordered, we received our entrees. Server also forgot to put in a cocktail order and never brought us water refills. On the reservation, my wife listed that it was my 40th birthday dinner and then told the server again after we finished eating. The server never even asked if we wanted desert and certainly didn't offer anything for a birthday. Server was polite and apologetic for the delays, but I've never felt more like a complete unknown in a restaurant that charges as much as Pier450 for food. Most confusing experience ever. We made a reservation and were given the choice to sit inside or outside and we chose outside. Hostess grabbed menus then put them back and sat us without menus. 15 minutes and nobody even acknowledged we were there. I asked if we could get a server to stop by and then waited 10 more minutes. I actually showed up before opening time. Around 2:30pm. The doors open at 4pm. I was still greeted very respectfully, and also seated. The staff made sure I was provided with drink options and food ! I was served a drink and food within 15 minutes of being seated . So far a great experience and I would highly recommend the Mediterranean salad. Thanks again for the service. I was also brought out an item that has not yet hit the menu ! Super surprising for southern Maryland. Don't take take that wrong. We went on a rainy Saturday in May. Sat at the bar and had some wine. The bar is a nice setup and had a bit of a lounge feel. The place that even comes closest is Sweet Bay in Leonardtown, but 450 is still unique. Ordered the crab balls and hush puppies as a bar food. Very good. Appears to have local beers on tap. Otherwise a good selection of wines, bubblies and booze. Will sit out next time. Looks like a nice place in the water. Kudos to the owners trying ti make a very unique place in southern southern Maryland. Take the extra 20 minute or so drive south of Lexington Park and check this place out. In terms of ambiance, Pier450 is a pretty to look at. The outside bar, the walkable pier, and the inside bar all are pretty cool and try to set the tone for the meal. The inside booths remind me of a diner, but overall the location (besides being so far from civilization) sets the tone well. And that is where things fell apart, at least on our last visit. For the prices being charged by Pier450, you expect a certain level of service and quality in food. I happily pay these prices elsewhere, but in the county where these prices are pretty expensive, Pier450 simply has to be better in every regard. Starting with service, our plates and appetizer were never really cleared throughout the meal, so we had to eat while our clearly empty and finished appetizer dishes sat on the table. The timing was also poor - there was a biiiig gap between appetizer and entree. Lastly, the server was unable to answer some pretty important but basic questions about menu items - things that for $30-$40 per plate, they better be able to answer. In terms of food - meh. My salmon was served room temperature (???) and served with lackluster mashed potatoes and warm oily zuchini (best way to describe it). Others at the meal put on a nice face but when the question came for dessert, it was a quick "No". If this was the last restaurant in the county, maybe I'd go back, but it's way too expensive for what it is. If the prices come down, it'd be more worth it. read more

Guys,,,,it was so bad. We showed up at 4:15pm in order to miss the crowd because we didn't have reservations, and we know this place is tight if you don't have them. They gave us a seat, and everything after that was terrible. The server situation there has been bad in the past but this time it was the worst. The two ladies that look like they run the place were so rude to interrupt our server while she was introducing herself at our table, in order to tell her that the people nxt to us were really hungry, and to go help them (it was so weird and awkward). Well she did. And we got almost no service the rest of the 90 min we were there. Server didn't know the specials cause "she wasn't paying attention when they told her, so we asked her to find out, she returned 20min later . . Not exaggerating. An hour in to the "experience" my wife decided to just go to the bar and get her own drink; she was turned away, tender aid "just go find your server". We ended up just telling them to pack our food to go, and the pic is what we ended up with. Strait HOT GARBAGE! The bill is that of a fancy restaurant, but its not. Both experiences were great: good, attentive, friendly service; great food; gorgeous waterfront setting and view. They are dog friendly (a plus) and even offered a bowl of water for our doggy. We enjoyed the view from the patio, and appreciated the fans creating a breeze (and reducing mosquitos and insects). Unique cocktails; try their Betty Davis Blue Eyes. A good but not great restaurant in the deep south of St Mary's county. Located on the sands of a Potomac River Beach. Has both indoor and outdoor seating and a cozy bar area. We had a reservation and arrived to a nearly empty restaurant late on a Sunday. It was a little too windy to sit outside so we opted for the interior. The entryway features a hostess station and a small gift shop. It's kind of like a cracker barrel with a nautical theme. Unfortunately this was also where we were seated, so not the most intimate or romantic dining table. As well, had to do battle with flies. The menu is not extensive. If this restaurant was not located in southern Maryland it would probably be considered a three-star. Service was good and attentive if a little unpolished. Appetizer arrived without any small plates and we had to ask for them. We started with the crab balls and hush puppies. They were decent. One of our party opted for the salmon and liked it. Another had the crab cakes and enjoyed them. I tried the gumbo topped with seared rockfish. It was a decent dish. My bride went for the corn and crab soup and house salad. Overall it's a little expensive for the quality. With an app, three entrees, soup and salad and three drinks the total was 170 bucks before tip. read more

We've been visiting Pier450-POV Restaurant since early 2021. We've enjoyed many celebratory meals (brunches and dinners) as well as almost all of the exquisite Chef's Tastings. We love that the ingredients are sourced locally as much as possible, and the herbs are selected from their own garden. Most recently, the flowers that adorned the tables were grown on the premises. They were beautiful! The servers, bartenders, and kitchen team are some of the best people we have ever met. The creativity in the kitchen is incredible, and we are so lucky to have a dining experience of this caliber so far south in the the county. We look forward to many more years of enjoyment at Pier450. Between the delicious meals, wonderful staff and the sunsets, we are sold. Next on our list is to actually stay at The Quarters so we can soak in the total experience of dinner and the stars. read more

First, I'd like to say that both the hostess and our waitress were exceedingly friendly and attentive, so no issues there. We had a dozen raw oysters and they all were still attached to the shells, some had broken pieces of shells in them and they were not tasty. The "mignonette"/red wine vinegar had no flavor so didn't improve the taste, so at $27 it was not a good start. We decided based on the oysters that we would not order entrees and would just opt for a bowl of the corn and crab soup that was touted as some of "the best". The soup was not only cold, but flavorless and had an obscene amount of nearly raw celery. We each ate half of our bowls, as it was that bad. We got a basket of French fries as well and they were sadly the highlight of the meal. We were planning on getting dessert, but were so disappointed at the meal that we just got the check. We ended up spending almost $90 for a less than average meal and went elsewhere for dessert. read more

Bad on me for return thinking they must be better now given their high prices and different menu. This time I was there with wife and friends. My wife and company appear to enjoy their meals - salmon/fish. The salmon looked small portioned and a bit dry to me. I currently manage my blood glucose so at restaurants I usually go for soup and salad with some protein as main course. The caesar salad I ordered was a bed of lettuce with dressing, very little grated cheese and a few crotons (I can't eat - carbs). The salad (bed of lettuce) was small and in no way be considered a whole meal as in other restaurants. I did add some protein (steak - medium) which turned out to be also small portioned and a little on the hard and dry side. I usually don't complain about restaurants much, but this case it's different because when you see a very pricy menu, in this region, you expect much higher quality meals. I was very disappointed with my salad and felt somewhat insulted with its price. I went home and had to eat a meal on top of all that. My wife seems to like the place, but it would be a big ask of me to return again. The reality is that I had much better soups and salads at much more friendly prices at just about every other place including Panera and Chipotle. read more

Good food and service. All the food is made from scratch. We shared a few appetizers and each was delicious and portions were indeed enough for four. The steak was cooked perfectly and did not require any extra sauce. The pasta and fish were also delicious and well liked. The desserts overall were good chocolate cake was delicious. However, I personally think the lavender killed the blueberry crème brûlée. My phone was dying so no photos this time. We plan to return to try something different and see if it can maintain or improve on its food and service. I highly recommend reservations and limited libations as the restaurant is located in a rural area. The location of course provides a great view, but the ultra bright headlights are blinding when you are driving out of the area in the dark. read more

We went back for the second time this past weekend. Unfortunately, we experienced some of the same issues from our last visit. The service was very slow. When we arrived there weren't many people in the restaurant, so I'm not sure what the issues was. The positives, I had the soy ginger brûléed salmon which was pretty good, the salmon had great flavor but it was a little bit overdone. To the not so great, the drinks were just ok. My blood mary tasted like straight horseradish. It overpowered the drink. My husband and I had espresso martinis after dinner. Had the restaurant not been so busy at that point, we would've sent them back. I have no idea if they made a mistake when making them but they tasted like root beer with a splash of coke and cough syrup. It was bizarre. Our food took about an hour to come out. My husband said his burger was ok, the menu said it came with caramelized onions but it came out with raw, red onion. He doesn't like raw onion. Our server never asked if we wanted separate checks, she just came out with one. When we asked for separate checks, she gave me two pens and asked me to break it out. Also, it got very loud as the restaurant filled up. They need something to help absorb the sound. Ultimately, with it being a 30 minute drive, we wouldn't go back unless we were invited by someone else for a special occasion. read more

This restaurant was about a 15 minute drive from our weekend Airbnb rental. It was a gem of a place in the midst of an otherwise remote area of the bay. I loved the decor I thought it was a good mix of eclectic and modern, I especially liked the little store of vintage and new items in front of the restaurant. We were seated directly off the kitchen which I thought was odd considering there were other tables available at the front but also partly my fault as I didn't speak up. I ordered the dirty sangria cocktail and I loved that there was a splash of bourbon in it which added a little extra zest compared to any other sangria I've had. We ordered a dozen oysters and when I asked our server twice what kind (variety) of oysters they had on offer, she had no clue which seemed to me it should have been basic oyster information servers should know. Other than that, our server was attentive and polite and oysters were fresh and served properly. My friend and I each ordered the pork chop dish and it was delicious we were both pleased with it. It was a generous portion as you can see in the photo though I would have loved more veggies with it. Too bad it's winter and we went at night so we couldn't enjoy the view of the water, if I'm ever in the area again I would definitely come back. read more

What an amazing setup! This is one of the most laid back relaxing meals I've had in southern Maryland. Thursday through Sunday they offer a beach side dinner service and holy cow what a great idea. They have 5-6 fire pits surrounded with beach chairs on a small sandy beach with gorgeous views of the bay. Their menu for the beach service is small but offers everything you would want for the setting. We had a dozen oysters in the half shell, crab balls and their huge half pound burger. Everything was perfect. The burger huge and cooked to perfection. Serviced on a homemade bun and some seriously amazing fries. Pier 450 is definitely a hidden gem in the area. My husband and I booked a table for the French night last week. I've posted a review on this restaurant before, and not much has changed. The food was good; the portion sizes were decent. Favorite food was the mushroom, black truffle, and parmesan soup. Main course was lamb some sort of sauce; was not memorable. My husband's cut of meat had a lot of gristle. The dessert was a cherry "tart," it seemed like a cobbler, but tasted great. The wait staff was fantastic, very attentive. My main gripe, the same as the last time we were there, is that it is hot and stuffy. It's a small space that they shoved as many tables into as possible, and didn't turn on the AC until after the first course. Everyone was sweating. The main dining room has wide windows that face west overlooking the water, which is a great view until the sun starts setting and it's blinding you and it adds to the heat in the room. And it was LOUD. There is no hint of anything resembling soundproofing; my husband and I had to shout at each other to hear, and we left with our ears ringing. We could not enjoy our date due to those three glaring issues that have not been rectified yet by management. My husband stated that we will not be going back. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Pier 450 "Quarters" and had dinner at the restaurant for a romantic getaway. From the moment we walked in, the staff was very friendly. We were pleasantly surprised at how chic and well decorated the interior was - you would never know from the ordinary-looking facade! There is a gorgeous beach view from the dining room and if it had not been raining, it looks like there is outdoor seating on the beach. We ordered the rockfish ceviche as an appetizer and although it wasn't my favorite, the presentation was absolutely stunning. My husband and I both enjoyed the Sidecar cocktails. My husband's entree was the pork chop with blackberry sauce and it was probably the best pork chop I've ever tasted. The dish had a delightful crust and the meat was flavorful and tender. I ordered the Made for the Beach Salad Bowl - it was actually 4 different salads on one plate! There was chicken, bean, garden, and fruit salads. Each one was delicious and the balsamic vinaigrette on the garden salad was especially tasty. We also ordered the chocolate cake, which was not very sweet, just okay. 5 stars for the overall experience - beautiful beach view, beautiful presentation, and delicious entrees and cocktails. I'd been here previously, but today I brought fourteen people in eleven sports cars from the DC Metro area - we made Pier 450 the first stop on our scenic tour today. I set up a reservation a few weeks in advance, and Cori was a joy - she set up outdoor tables for us near the water, and we got there early enough to beat the lunch rush. The service and food was excellent. Gotta recommend the crab balls and hush puppies for an appetizer, and members had the crabcake sandwich, the tuna poke bowl, the "Made for the Beach" salad, and all were outstanding. The lavender blueberry creme brulee was excellent as always, and don't worry - the lavender is a subtle flavoring. Highly recommend this place - we'll be coming back the next time we wander this way. read more

I ordered the "special" that came with salmon my salmon was raw and cold in the middle and i sent it back (probably the first time in my life) and in return got a salmon cooked so long my wife thought it was chicken. I did not even have to say anything to the waitress i just looked at her ... and she asked me what i would like to do ...Really felt like i was getting a good old F You from the place ... to make it worse before we ordered our meals i bought and paid for two bottles of champagne upon receiving the bill i noticed they undercharged me by 50 dollars which i promptly told them and had them correct. They had no problem getting the bill right after i sent it back telling them they undercharged me. The manager did come out apologize and offer a free dessert. I don't know what most of these 4 and 5 star reviews are talking about. This was laughably bad. Took 30 mins before our waiter even visited our table for the first time, at which point he used multiple profanities in front of our elementary-aged children to share basic facts about the menu and specials. He then told us most of the food wasn't great and would take a long time at any rate to be delivered - true to his word. The portions were minuscule, and the prices were way too much for this area and for what the location would warrant. They didn't even allow dining outside during a beautiful sunset evening - the point of its namesake, Pier POV! - so I'm not sure what they're doing here other than intentionally sabotaging themselves. I'm giving 2 stars because the food was passable and better than the service and setting deserves, but again, the portions and quality simply weren't justified by the price. I'd say those were the only, fixable, problems but the "owner" was just as rude in her behavior and seemed to do little to help a dining room in disarray. You'll have a hard time finding other meals in that town based on selection but I'd recommend trying based on this experience. read more

We were recommended this place for our anniversary dinner. It was perfect! We ate outside and had a gorgeous view of the sun setting. The service was good. Our waitress was very helpful with answering questions and offering suggestions. The food was amazing!! My favorite was the Roasted Corn and Cream of Crab soup. It was not too heavy and simply delicious. My husband and I split the baked oysters on the half shell for an appetizer and they were very tasty. I ordered the crab cake dinner and the crab cakes were wonderful. I would sub the veggies next time. They didn't have much flavor, but they had a little crunch (not over cooked) which I like. My husband ordered the steak and shrimp meal. The steak melted in your mouth and could easily be cut with a butter knife. The shrimp were the biggest shrimp I've ever had. What a hidden gem! We absolutely loved our stay here we eat at the restaurant twice and stayed at the motel for one night. The restaurant has such fresh and do you need food. Things like lavender and Rosemary and blueberries seem to have come straight from their garden! You can tell theyre new because service is slow but it's worth it for the view and the food! Staying at Pier 450 for the 2nd time in about a year or so, it's difficult not to enjoy a meal at POV, if nothing more for the shear convenience. However, POV is 2 for 2 now, serving up some of the tastiest local raw oysters we've ever had. This was followed by an incredible roasted corn crab cream soup, and entrees of soy & ginger bruleed Salomon, and a shrimp penne and cheese, everything served quickly and piping hot, and cooked to perfection. Excellent service, and amazing setting on the water, makes for wonderful experience that we will most definitely return for in the future. Highly recommended! read more
