This was my second visit. The main patio was full so we were offered a high-top table near the outdoor bar. Those high-top chairs with their slats were SOOOOOO uncomfortable! They should be replaced or cushioned soon! The margarita was terrible, completely lacking in the tang that a margarita needs. I asked for some extra lime wedges but they didn't help much, so I asked for and was brought some lime juice. That changed the taste but it still was far from a decent margarita. Perhaps the tequila portiin was too small? Not sure about that. But please work on your margarita recipe! In addition, when you serve a margarita in a tall ale glass rather than a wide-mouthed, bowl-like glass traditionally used for margaritas, you don't get enough salt because the rim to drink ratio is low. On the upside, my Habanero Peach Burger was very good. My friends really enjoyed their Angel Hair Pasta and Blackened Salmon. It's nice to have a restaurant right on the river! read more

The location is perhaps too good. Being right on the river means you're competing for a parking spot with all the people who are going to boat down the river. We were parked two blocks away. The food is amazing, though. We started with cheese curds. These were normally sized and so we thought the rest of the items would be. Everything else has very generous portions, though. We were amazed at how much mac and cheese they give you for $12. We also had the rotisserie chicken, and the leftover of that is enough that the rest of it is my lunch today. Dessert is amazing. We just left Pier 500 and usually service is very good, but today we waited 35 minutes for our drinks. On top of having to wait so long we ordered an Irish coffee and it was cold by the time we got it. We told the server and all she could do was say sorry. We were so frustrated that we didn't even finish eating and went around the corner for lunch. The server did not offer to comp the coffee or discount it, which was $9! Beautiful location right on the river. Sitting outside is a must if the weather is nice. They have a parking lot right there as well as ample street parking nearby. I have their snowtop margarita watch scared me a little bit initially as it had coconut milk in it and cranberries but was very good. A little bit weird considering the season but it was nice to have a tequila option on the menu that wasn't just a traditional margarita. The smoked Gouda nacho appetizer was delicious! My husband had a salmon healthy bowl which was very good. The sauce on the salmon was especially good. I had the rotisserie chicken, Raspberry , and walnut salad. It was very flavorful and tasted fresh. For dessert we had hey special that included a variety of berries, vanilla bean ice cream, and graham cracker crisps which was very nice and refreshing. We had been long time customers - no longer. After arriving and putting our name on the wait list we went to the bar and ordered drinks and an appetizer. After waiting for our table we went to the hostess station to learn our table had been given away and we were now on the bottom of the wait list. When we said the service was horrendous we were told by a smart mouth employee we could leave if didn't like it. So we did. We had left the bartender a $20 tip for $50 bar tab - he was working his tail off as he had on multiple other times. After spending literally thousands of dollars at Pier 500 we are done. I love downtown Hudson and the place to go with the best patio is Pier 500. It's all about location location location here. You are sitting as close to the river as you can get. Let's talk food: I did the black and blue burger and ordered it medium rare. While it was good beef, the burger came more medium well. What saved this entree was the salt and vinegar fries which I devoured with the house made basil mayo. My husband ordered the turkey sandwich. The sandwich is almost an inch of turkey thick. Pier rotisseries the turkey and it is moist and filled with flavor. Definitely a favorite of mine. The service is ok...we received the wrong order at first and did wait for attention a few times on our drinks. I haven't been here in years, so the last time we happened to come through Hudson without kids, we just had to stop in! I had a seasonal New Glarus while hubs had a Bloody Mary. He said it was fine but not the best ever. We started with Brie cheese curds, and trust me when I say these are even BETTER than the reviews let on! Just absolutely melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Hubs ordered the prime rib Philly, which he really, really enjoyed. He said the meat was fall-apart tender and the slaw tasted like it had been fresh tossed. I ordered the rotisserie chicken and WOW. It was so tender and had tons of wood smoke flavor. It was also an entire half chicken so I couldn't finish even half of it. The garlic mashed potatoes and almond green beans were really nice sides with this dish. We were so full we had to order dessert to-go; the banana cream pie. It was send home deconstructed so the whipped cream and caramel wouldn't melt, which we appreciated. At home, we realized this dessert could feed a family of 5 and hardly made a dent in it, even though it was really good. The brie cheese curds are life-changing, and I would stop by to eat them every day if I lived in walking distance. The lobster mac & cheese is spendy, but tasty. They do a great job with the sauce and, when done gently, it will reheat well in the microwave. They also had this butterscotch pudding dessert that was super tasty and big enough to share. Try their soups too - I've never had a bad one. I've come here both with four little kids in tow, as well as on a rare date with my husband. Both times, I had great food and exceptional service. During our visit with all the kids, one of the waitresses even helped prevent a meltdown for my 4yr old niece by having her "help" set a table. They were also great about bringing out the kids meals as quickly as possible. Kids behaved and didn't act like crazy beasts, and us adults were able to enjoy our meal. On our date, they took a lunch reservation for a table near the fireplace, which just made the experience all the more perfect on a cold, winter afternoon. Thank you! I've visited Pier 500 many times over the years. Mainly after boating on the St Croix. The fondue has always been a favorite of mine. Tonight we were in the Hudson area by car and decided to have dinner here. We shared the Smoked Gouda Nachos (pulled rotisserie chicken, smoked gouda cheese sauce, cilantro, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream and shredded lettuce) these were pretty good they came out very fast being how busy the place was. Lastly we shared the lobster Mac n cheese menu description (mac and cheese done grown up style! four cheese blend, fresh lobster meat and cavatappi noodles + house chip crumbs. browned to perfection!). This Mac was full of stringy onions and large chunks as well. Which overpowered the lobster. I do love onions but nothing in the menu description indicated that these were in the dish. Pier 500 is absolutely a go-to restaurant if you're visiting Hudson for a weekend trip or just a nightly occasion. The menu is diverse and there are many food options to choose from including burgers, steaks, pasta, salad, and alcoholic beverages galore. One thing my family and I always orders immediately is the mac and cheese and bacon balls. They are so good and they are a must-have. Honestly anything you order here will result in a pleasing experience. Another thing that makes this restaurant so amazing is it's location. Positioned right on the St. Croix river, the view of the sunset and the river is just amazing in the evening. The last thing I would like to say about Pier 500 is that the staff is always friendly and the only time there isn't a lot of seating available is on Friday or weekend nights. First time here and ate outside. Service was excellent and the food selection was very good. I enjoyed a Caesar salad with chicken and walleye bites. Both were exceptional. My grandparents took us here and I loved their outdoor seating area. Very refreshing- to be able to take in the view of the river and that nice gentle breeze. They've got huge sun umbrellas at each table so don't worry about it getting too sunny. The lobster mac and cheese was a bit on the salty side and way too watery for a mac and cheese- they either needed to thicken it up more or cooked it longer. Plus the lobster was few and scarce. The wild mushroom flat bread on the other hand was thin and crispy with a hint of truffle oil. And I loved their selection of mushrooms on it. My grandparents did their lunch special which is a half sandwich and a cup of soup of their choice- they seemed to really like it since that's what they always get :) Service wasn't in particularly outstanding but wasn't horrible either- just right. My wife and I love Pier 500 it is by far the best Restaurant in Western Wisconsin! The only way it could be any better is if it were right on the River. Their patio is amazing!! It can probably accommodate over 100 guests, the service is always very quick and the food is phenomenal. If you are looking for food ,the best things on the menu my favorites in order are. Lobster Mac and Cheese Nachos Coconut Shrimp Philly Steak and Cheese sandwich. For drinks the St Croix margarita is very good all though it is kind of pricey at $8. Their Gin and Tonics are only $3 each, which I thought was very reasonable. You really cannot go wrong eating and drinking at Pier 500 it is by far the best place to eat in Hudson and probably for 50 miles into WI. read more

My Mom came in from LA and asked to have fish in Wisconsin. She flies all over the world but wanted fish in Wisconsin. So, I found Pier 500 here on Yelp. Mixed reviews but, we actually all enjoyed our meals. We had the blackened salmon with dirty rice for meals, pork nachos and walleye cigars for appetizers. My hubby had the pork chops and there wasn't one food complaint. The food came quickly and not one thing wrong. My only complaint would be that the table next to us was too close and I felt like the guy behind me was on my back. We came out to Pier 500 for Sunday Funday! We were lucky to grab a seat at the bar, watch a bit of football, enjoy the all day Happy Hour on food and bevies. I had the burger (excellent), with cole slaw (crunchy fresh), and some Bell's Two Hearted (sorry New Glarus). For some reason most of the bars on the St Croix have to look over a parking lot or street to see the river, but that's not their fault. A nice deck wraps 1/2 the restaurant, and the inside looks like a nice place to hang out in winter. My only beef was that the bar service was slow....but they were busy. read more

This place is excellent and the food is wonderful, However, my husband and I found the food consistently over-salted. I, for one, love salt but had difficulty getting through the intense saltiness. If they cut the sodium by 25-50% this restaurant would be my go-to on every date night. We've been there 4 times and each time it's delicious(!!!) but agree it is way too salty. So aggravating. We try this restaurant at least every six months. The first time was last September. We were there to celebrate my daughters bday. Horrible service. Today we thought that sitting on the deck would be amazing because the weather was awesome out. The day before the fourth we can get there before the crowds hit tomorrow. Our service was awful. He was at our table to take our order. He walked by, I asked for more drinks and bread. Then our food came out. It was delivered by someone else. I had to hunt him down to tell him my dinner was cold. He was miffed I asked to have it sent back. He literally rolled his eyes!!! He delivers it again. Still to have it be cold. I've passed this restaurant a few times but today, made the turn into the parking lot. I wanted to try it - especially since my friends were there last night and I missed out. Came out for lunch and was pretty impressed from the moment I stepped in. We were greeted immediately and seated soon after. Our server came by and was super nice and we had drinks out super quick. The menu options aren't plentiful but they are diverse. Don't let that scare you! They have amazing appetizers: the green beans are AWESOMENESS...then you have the bacon sprinkled in there and what isn't amazing with Bacon? I had the chicken sandwich and I was impressed. The chicken wasn't dry and it was pretty tasty. The fries are tasty too, not just plain salty fries either! I would definitely stop in and enjoy the embiance and the food of course...oh wait, don't forget to try a dessert. Again, not a huge dessert menu but the variety works perfectly. I had the banana cream pie....OMGEEEEEE. I got it to go but it didn't make it for an hour after I got home. I opened it to take a few bites and good gosh...next think I know it was gone!!
