Honestly this place is such a waste of time, there was a lady that was so rude and had a bad attitude to their costumers, they let us wait 4 hrs and they didn't even check on our cat, awful I would give 0 starts read more

I brought my dog to Central Animal Hospital in Guilford on 8/18/22. When i got there, they did blood work and gave us antibiotics for a possible inner ear infection but told us if they didn't work to get an MRI done at Pieper Memorial in Middletown. I brought my dog to Pieper Memorial in Middletown on 8/28/2022 because the antibiotics didn't help my dog so I did as was recommended and went to get her an MRI. I was very disappointed by not only the customer service by the staff but also the care given to my dog. I provided the staff with the information from Central and how I was told to come to them for an MRI of my dogs head. Not o my was I denied the MRI, which was the only reason I went to them, but I was there for 15 hours with little to no communication about the well-being of my dog, what medications they were giving her, or what they were planning on doing. During the 15 hours, all that was done was blood work and they took her blood pressure as well as gave her an injection to help her "stay hydrated". When the blood work came back normal, I was told by one of the staff, "I don't know what's wrong with your dog, sorry. Wait 4 months and hope it improves". When I arrived home, my dog was extremely dehydrated and starving. I have a Saint Bernard and she was so dehydrated she wasn't even drooling. When my dog proceeded to get even worse, I took her to our primary care vet on 9/8 who agreed with Central Animal Hospital that she needed an MRI. I did my research and took her an hour away to the VCA in Shelton where they instantly knew she needed an MRI when we arrived. When the test came back, they discovered she has a rather large, cancerous tumor on her brain stem and going down into her spine. If I wasn't denied the MRI when i went to Pieper and made to feel like I was in the wrong or over exaggerating then maybe I would have found this tumor sooner and been able to treat it. Now it is incurable and there's little to nothing we can do about it. I will never again do business with Pieper Memorial and I will never recommend them to anybody. The customer service was the worst I've ever received and the care for my dog was extremely poor. I now need to prepare to say goodbye to my 2 1/2 year old puppy not knowing if they actually listened to me at Pieper, if my dog could have been helped. read more

About 3 weeks ago we had brought our dog in for chocolate consumption and ended up staying the night. They ran bloodwork, gave her IVs and The next morning they called saying she was ready to come home. We picked her up and thar very night she got very sick again. Brought her back the next day and I also told them how I think she had slowly losing weight along with some other concerns. They did MORE bloodwork, an ultrasound to check for obstruction and again sent her home saying her labs were normal and no obstructions so she just has "garbage gut" from eating foods she shouldn't have. They also sent us home with some meds to help her stomach. In those 2 days she saw 2 or 3 separate doctors and spent well over $700. Fast forward 3 weeks she got increasingly worse, lost a lot of weight, and was no longer he happy self. Along the way they kept telling us her stomach just had to heal and she would slowly improve. We called another smaller vets office for 2nd opinion. I had all her tests and records sent over to new place and brought her for her visit. The new Dr looked at her labs (that they told us were normal) and immediately saw what was wrong. SEVERAL levels were WAY off. Long story short, she was in severe kidney failure. She had to be put down because she was too far gone at this point. Had Pieper-Olson carefully reviewed her labs they would have noticed what was wrong and started treatment. She would have had a good chance at getting healthy or at least would have been able to put up a fight to get better. Because of their gross incompetence, busy schedules, and unfocused minds (remember we had seen 3 Dr's there) and inability to listen to what I was saying and noticing, I have my lost precious dog. I'm so beside myself and angry at the Dr's there. Please do your research and if you're bringing your pet for a problem be insistent that they listen to your concerns and observations and that they do the necessary and proper testing. read more

Several years ago my dog received his shots. He died shortly afterwards. I understand something like that could happen but I was so broken hearted. When I called to let them know Casper died, they were really rude and impatient. I wanted them to know just in case they had a bad strain of vaccines. I was trying to help the vets and animals. I never went back with my other dogs. Cromwell, Rocky Hill and Middlefield have great vets. Piper feels like a lifeless corporation. read more

Rudest daytime reception staff!! (The emergency side). The doctors and medical care my pet received were good, but I will certainly be visiting alternative emergency clinics in the future if necessary. Additionally, the waiting area is pathetic with no where to sit, only 1 small bathroom, and the parking lot is a complete mess!! Whoever was in charge of the renovations should be fired. read more

The emergency doctor and the other staff were wonderful. They were concerned and first helping my dog the moment we walked in the door. (unlike another place I've been ) I know that this is a large, busy place with excellent facilities... like bloodwork, urinalysis and ultrasound were available immediately. The staff listens. It turned out to be a sad day for me but the information the Dr gave me and the great kindness of the Dr, tech, and clerk helped me through the experience. Angels on earth. Piepers is 40 minutes from me, but I drove through an ice storm to take my sweet Blizzard of Oz to be cared for, and there is no better place. Thoughts of their understanding and care are helping me enormously through the days ahead. read more

Good doctors, but very poorly managed. Go to Tufts - Foster Small Animal Hospital. We went in for an emergency and had to sit in the waiting room for over 4 hours (until after midnight) for the doctor to come back and tell us that we needed to leave our dog there overnight. The doctor had seen our dog right away, but couldn't come talk to us for 10 minutes so that we could go home. Honestly, they could have sent a tech or another staff member just to tell us that she was checked in, comfortable, and that we could go home. Our dog ended up being there a whole week and the diagnosis was never confirmed. It was a bit of an unusual circumstance, but regardless, I felt the cost of hospitalization was very, very high. She was on an IV for a few days and some antibiotics. Excluding the costs of a few specific tests, it was still very pricey just for being there. The main doctor that we dealt with was a specialist. He seemed knowledgeable and answered my questions, but he didn't call with an update as regularly as other hospitals (like Tufts). He'd call at 10 AM or 1 PM for the first time of the day and sometimes not until 7 PM for the second check. When your dog is in the hospital with a mysterious illness, I want a status every morning early and every night as these situations can change quickly. I know from experience. I had a dog who was at Tufts last year for a very serious pneumonia. That team called me 3 times a day when it was touch and go, then 2 times when she was stable and the doctors kept in touch over email after she was under my care at home. World class care both for the dog and the owners. Pieper never provided me the medical records from my stay even though I've called them twice to ask for them. Update: after a third call, they did finally send the records. One of the tests required a lab in CA to do the analysis. Instead of calling the lab regularly to get the results in a timely manner, they just let them take their time. She stayed in the hospital an extra 2 days waiting for the results when she could have been at home. Everyone was nice. The facility was excellent - top notch. The doctors seemed knowledgeable. My issue is how they administrate the experience. I felt like I was an afterthought and when you're paying $4500, I expect more. At Tufts, you get a team of doctors as well to offer various opinions and give you a better end result. It's worth the longer drive to Tufts every time. read more

Very unprofessional. I checked my car in for medical boarding with specific instructions not to administer additional meds and yet they still did. It's been a week and a half since he was discharged and they have yet to fax over the records of what they did while he was boarded so my follow up appointment with my vet was less informative than it should have been. This was a day after I called over to remind them to fax his records. I will not return there! read more

We left Pieper years ago due to pushing for unnecessary tests and procedures. I'm sad to say that not much has changed. In the last 6 months we had to take 2 animals there for issues on a weekend. In both situations, I was given an entire pitch of the worse case scenario and the tests and procedures that "should" be done to rule this out. In one case I had previous knowledge and was able to avoid the unnecessary bill, in the other case I had no choice but to listen to the expert at that moment. Once we saw our regular Vet, he confirm the possible diagnoses and the testing were not needed at that time. The only positives I will give is that they are polite and their pricing isn't as bad as another emergency vet I have visited. read more

I was traveling yesterday when my dog had a medical concern. Her caretaker brought her to the emergency clinic during office hours, and was unable to wait longer than the 2 hours he had already sat there. As he was leaving, I was on the phone with the vet tech who stressed to me the importance of having my dog seen later that same day when I was able to get her back in. I literally got on a flight back home and brought my dog back to the ER clinic later that night around 10:30PM. We sat for another 4 hours before another vet tech came out around 2am to tell us that there were other patients triaged in front of us, and that we would have to either wait another 2-3 hours before being seen, or go home and come back during office hours the next day. So I opted for coming back the next morning, which was something I suggested doing earlier on the phone with the vet tech but was told that was absolutely the worst idea to wait to have her treated! Come to find out that apparently their night ER staff does not communicate and work with their day staff when it comes to scheduling, so I couldn't make an appointment for this before I left. I set an alarm and called the office at 7:30am as soon as they opened to get an appointment to be seen same day, which is what the ER staff told me to do. I was told that they couldn't treat my dog again today! My only option was to, again, sit in the ER and I was told that they were "expecting another emergency (really?)" and that our wait time would again be minimum 2-3 hours. Now don't get me wrong - I totally understand the need to triage different emergencies, and that life-threatening situations would take precedent over my situation. But my dog has a literal gaping hole in the side of her neck right now, her breathing is labored, and she is in a lot of pain - and I have literally been turned away three times now from professionals who refuse to treat her, simply because they are "too busy." I was told to go back to our "regular vet" even though my dog hasn't been seen by them in over a year because we have moved away from that town. We are also established customers at Pieper Vet, having brought several other of our pets to them in the past. Your lack of compassion and urgency for your patients is truly disturbing. I could have had my dog treated at a vet who gives a damn 24 hours ago, but instead I have wasted literally a full day and night of time sitting in your waiting room, and she is STILL in pain and needs help! You could have told us you didn't have time to treat her when she was there the first time, and we would have immediately brought her elsewhere. Not to worry - we are on our way to Beckett and Associates in Glastonbury. They are further away, but it will be worth the drive to get my baby the care that she needs and deserves from people who actually care. read more

After making the heart wrenching decision on a Monday evening to have my elderly ferret put to sleep, I called ahead to make sure they would be able to handle my request and I was assured it would be handled quickly. After waiting for over 2 hours holding him in a blanket and being told I was "next", I gave up and brought him home to find another vet the next day. There was absolutely no sign of compassion or caring for either my pet or myself. We definitely deserved better treatment and would never use this place again. read more

I'm so glad this place is relatively close to us! This is a 24 hour emergency vet service that is located on Randolph Road in Middletown. Our little chihuahua had an allergic reaction to her shots from earlier in the day, and we had to rush her to a vet. They were quick, professional and very friendly. They even clipped her nails for us at no charge! As far as prices go, it costs $105 to see the vet before midnight, and $115 after midnight. Any shots/procedures are extra. I will definitely go to this place first if we ever have a late night emergency again. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The vet was one of the rudest people I have ever spoken to in my entire life who talked down to me and was irritated when I asked her questions about a toxic medication she wanted to put my dog on. Being in healthcare myself I don't know what kind of place would employ rude veterinarians who don't want to help at all and who's only job is to care for the animals and answer questions of concerned owners. Never coming here again. Have also heard horrible reviews from people who have gone here. Also was irritated when asked basic questions. Have some compassion and pride in what you do. read more

Two stars because the surgeon did a decent job with the thyroid surgery on my dog. While there are nice vets there (Dr March is the only one I have met that is decent since Dr Lord left) it is hard to find them in the primary care area. They do not care about the actual customer and after my dogs weeklong stay there following surgery they also do not care about the dog. I have always fully trusted in my vets and I am horrified that I put my trust in this facility that almost killed my dog for their own convenience. I posted a review under the animal hospital site on yelp as well so you can certainly read that to get all the information. But I am no longer taking my dogs or cats here and would highly recommend to anybody that you go to a different place. They need some serious training in working with animals and working with their people. I'm not an idiot I know I am not a vet but I do a lot of reading about any behaviors or symptoms that my dogs may display and I try to avoid taking my dog to the vet when it's something that I can manage on my own. It's disgusting and horrifying how much poor judgment they have, how incredibly rude they are and how disrespectful to the owners they are. I have always had nothing but the utmost respect for anybody who works in the veterinary field. After my experience at this place my trust will not come easy. Dr. March in primary care is so sweet, he needs to get out of this place before they ruin him. read more

Fantastic staff! Veterinarians awesome! Love the puppy trainer, Jessica & their facilities..... However, their phone service is the worst! But when I call back immediately, no one answers. There is no dedicated receptionist. When you call to make a simple appointment, you're put on hold for far too ..... I usually don't review on Yelp but I wanted to say how wonderful the staff and doctors were. Our dog was very sick and the staff and doctors at Pieper Memorial did everything they possibly could to save our dog. They were extremely compassionate and caring. They made us feel like our dog was the only dog they were taken care of us. In the end, our precious dog could not be saved but without the support and guidance I don't know what my husband and myself would have done. Pieper Memorial is all about the well being of your animal. They are not money hungry. The hospital is extremely clean. I would recommend Pieper Memorial to anyone. read more

This is long review, so I'll get to the punchline--Dr. Jay saved our dog's life. My home vet referred us to Pieper Memorial for an ultrasound for our 12-year-old wheaten terrier, Spumoni, after having a bad Memorial Day weekend that landed us in her office the day after the holiday. With lab results that were all over the place, and a dog with zero energy and no appetite, our vet recommended that we go to Pieper for an ultrasound. There, we were given the grim news that Spumoni had a softball sized tumor on her spleen and something on her liver. The choice was to say goodbye to our dog or have surgery. We knew that Spumoni still had a lot of living to do as she was giving us some bursts of energy, plus, we were not ready to say goodbye. We scheduled a surgery consult with Dr. Jay. She was patient, knowledgeable, listened to our concerns, and answered all of our questions--even from my actuary husband who kept asking the same questions multiple times in a different way. She was confident that Spumoni was a great candidate for surgery. Dr. Jay was ready to take a vacation, so the option was to leave Spumoni there and have the surgery the next morning or wait until after she got back in two weeks. Time was of the essence because Spumoni was a ticking time bomb. We were also concerned because we had a wedding to attend that weekend and were worried about recovery and leaving her with our dog sitter. Our dog sitter is tops, but we weren't sure how Spumoni would handle the recovery. Pieper offers medical boarding--a total lifesaver. We left Spumoni at Pieper and she had the surgery the next morning (on a Wednesday) and we visited her on Thursday and Friday. My husband was traveling and visited her on his way home that Saturday morning before he came home for the wedding. The first day we visited, Spumoni was a bit tired. She was still on medication and I think she was glad to see us, but also glad to see us go home. However, on the subsequent days, her energy really returned and we took her home the Sunday after her surgery. In the meantime, on the day of the surgery, we heard from Dr. Sterman twice, who was absolutely fantastic and Dr. Jay later that evening. Dr. Sterman also called us daily from that point on to give us updates and answer any questions (and this time, I had a LOT). The team at Pieper is tops and it was totally worth the 45-minute drive for us. The best news of all was that the tumor on her spleen and growths on her liver were benign--#unbreakable. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Jay, Dr. Sterman, and the rest of the Pieper team for taking such excellent care of our beloved dog. read more

I was referred by my vet to Pieper Memorial for an ultrasound with Dr. Freer on my dog Bridgette. The staff was very friendly on the phone and in person. When scheduling the appointment they were very accommodating working with my schedule. My wait time was surprisingly but happily short. The tech who came to get my dog was friendly and my dog went with her willingly without looking back. Dr. Freer who did the ultrasound was amazing. He was friendly with us and with Bridgette it truly he truly cares for his patients. Not every vet is passionate about their jobs but Dr. Freer showed he was. I didn't feel rushed at all while there. If I ever have to have an ultrasound done again I will definitely be back. read more

Hey Friends, this hospital has some dumb doctors, Frauds and Pet Killers. I brought my dog, who is like my son, in September here with reference of my Primary Care Vet (substitute). Looking at the hospital outside, I thought this is a great Big hospital and my dog will be well cared and will be perfectly alright. My dog was suffering from some breathing problem and needs some cardiac/respiratory work up. My dog was also chronic Diabetic patient. The over all experience was very hurtful. Dr. Turner, Dr. Murphy and Dr. Christopher are few of the Dumbest and worst doctor I have ever found. Dr. Murphy and Dr. Hammond (Director of Hospital) were few of the Biggest Liars. After keeping my dog for almost 2 days and spending nearly 3000 $, they even couldn't diagnosed my dog's problem. Not only that, they even failed to control his diabetes, which was well controlled at home. This is hospital of dumb and Experimental doctors, who consider your pet as 'Experimental object'. More over, it is over-crowded. They hardly let you go into their Emergency Room and if they have to (because your pet is on Oxygen, and they didn't have any choice), they keep you waiting outside for almost 2 hours even though you called them before you come there ( so that you don't want to visit there in-person and rather inquire about your pet on phone only). At night, your pets are on God Grace, because they are short staffed and sometime misses to give your pet, his food and medicine (This is truth accepted by Dr. Murphy and one of the Technician from Hospital). If you want to admit your dog to this hospital, please please visit their ER before you put your love one in their poor care. I lost my beloved pet due to poor and experimental care of these foolish doctors. Dr. Murphy lied to me about cause of my dog's death. On phone she told me the real cause, but when I visited her face to face and started counter-questioning, she changed entire story, But the fear of lying can be easily read on her face. I tried to raise my voice, by repeated visit to hospital and phone calls to know the real cause of the death. But they provide me ONLY partial medical records of my dog. I talked with the Hospital Director Dr. J Hammond about the poor care and lake of knowledge and Lie of their doctors and how we have been left waiting in waiting room, But he kept telling about bringing improvement (Which is beating around the Bush). I told him that I want the complete medical record of my dog's treatment at Pieper Veterinary Hospital. Which he promised to provide but that Liar and Fraud still hasn't provide me that. Not only that the hospital also misplaced my dog's Leash and some other medicine, which were actually his 'Last Memory' For me. If you really care about your loving babies, please don't take them to this 'Butcher House' and if you don't have any other option and if you need to, please first go and visit their ER from inside-out where they are going to keep your pet. Ask them about pet/staff ratio, which is very important. They consider your pet-care as business and charge you almost 1000-1500 $ per day. So, you have all the rights to see the area where they are going to keep your pet, how many staff they are going to have and what kind of service they going to provide to your pet. Unfortunately, the law consider your loving pet as 'Property' and they don't back you in case of 'Veterinary Malpractice' and also no lawyer will help you to file law-suits because there is no Monetary gain in that law-suits, so these 'Butcher House' and these 'Dumb Doctors' and Liars can easily survives. I pray to god that he will teach Lesson to these Fraud, Liars and Killers. read more

I raced my dog to the hospital because she accidentally ingested some medications. Once there, they research the medications and baseload her bodyweight, determine that the medications were not harmful. They checked her vitals and gave me some signs to look for over the next few days. Seems pretty standard for a hospital. However, what I was really impressed with and thankful for was that there was no charge for this consult. Even though the meds turned out to not be harmless, they could've very easily given something to induce vomiting and then charge me a million bucks for it. I've been to an emergency vet hospital that bass they just charge me for walking in the door. This was not the place. The hospital also has a really big waiting room that is equipped with a vending machine, complementary coffee, computers, and a play area for kids. As much as I hope I never have to return there, if my pets ever need emergency care, I will not hesitate to bring them in. read more

Very unhappy. This place got way too big for them to obviously handle. Now it's like everyone is a number. Not a family, loving vet feel. It's very impersonal, you feel like you're on an assembly line....next, next. I left a message to one of the Drs with no response regarding my pet. So I waited a week thinking maybe they were on vacation. ( tried to give her the benefit of the doubt) still nothing back from her! So I called the front desk & ask about a script. The girl transferred me to the RX refill line (I have no idea why, because I never even had this prescription! So why they would transfer me to the refill line is beyond me!) so I leave a message and guess what?! Still NO RESPONSE! My animal could be dying & I'm sure they don't give a crap. They are either hiring people that have no clue! Or they are taking on way too many animals for them to handle. I used to go to a small mom & pop vet which I absolutely loved! He got down on the floor with me. Showed such compassion. Spoke with me personally. Showed he really cared! It wasn't all about the money! Unfortunately he retired! And I'm sick about it! I know I'll NEVER find another Vet like him. I want to change Vets & leave Pieper. I'm in the process of looking around. If you are looking for a Vet, I'd look elsewhere! They are pricey & I've wanted to see the same Dr every time but every time I go I get a different Dr. and they all believe different. They definitely are all not on the same page! My animals are my kids! They arent just a number! And that they don't value their customers enough to return calls makes me believe they are not worthy of caring for my pets! read more

Upon receipt of our new golden retriever from a qualified kennel and in need of an initial exam and related services, we chose Pieper because of their outstanding reputation and local access. Before he turned one it became clear he had an unusual gait. The long story short as he approaches his 2nd birthday is he has completed a lengthy process of care involving two significant surgeries that his recent final exam confirming that he has finished is care at the hospital area and his most recent three months of regular puppy activities has shown the results may have actually exceeded our expectations. We are so thankful for the loving and special services performed by the entire team of professionals and support staff at Pieper, from the regular Veterinary services, to the hospital to the Thera-Pet staff. We can not say enough about how grateful we are, and of all the expert care we know takes place in front of us and behind the scenes, and how the love they all show our pup is ever present and so genuine, including one day when we crossed paths with a former employee who was there with her dogs. Thank you for taking such great care of the special member of our family. read more

Disgusted. I've taken my dog here in the past and they were fine for an emergency. Called today because I wanted to make a non-emergent appt for some loose stool, she's an old dog and I wanted to play it safe. They wouldn't make an appt for me despite having openings tonight because I needed to "interview first with the practice manager" and advised me to use their emergency services instead. My dog has been seen here before in 2/2017 and this is not an emergency - they're just trying to make extra $ off the back end by charging for an emergency visit which is $100+. What kind of vet "interviews" before taking a patient? I'm a human nurse and this sounds like concierge medicine. What a joke. I expressed my frustration to the receptionist on the phone and was told "well I guess we can't help you then". Nope, you can't. DON'T BRING YOUR PET HERE, YOU WILL REGRET IT. My dog ate an Easter Lilly which caused her to vomit 11 times. I had a concern that she was dehydrated the next day because she wasn't herself. We brought her to this horrible place Friday evening around 6pm and sat in the car 3 and 1/2 hours until we found out that she had to stay overnight for further examination. Prior, when we spoke to the receptionist, she informed us that we needed to call the poison control hotline first before they could see my dog. The hotline is $60 for them to notify the veterinarian of how to proceed. I argued that a trained-licensed vetinarian needs to be told by someone else how to proceed about this simple matter. As I noticed that the parking lot was packed with customers, I got a strange feeling as everyone who brought their pets did not bring them out. The next day, the veterinarian recommended that my dog stays longer for more testing because her liver enzymes are elevated (which is normal under the circumstances). He completely ignored that she had poisoning from the lilly and started talking about cancer and wanted to take a biopsy of her liver and multiple Xrays. He said "Easter lillies aren't harmful to dogs only cats according to the ASPCA poison control website". However, that is exactly where I got my information as well which stated it depends on how much they eat. I decided to pick her up against their recommendation. After waiting for 4 hours in the parking lot for her, we noticed when we got home that she seemed heavily sedated. The next day even she was the same and she wouldn't eat. I was concerned, so we brought her back in which we waited another 3 hours before they told us that she needed to stay overnight. The first day cost around $1,600, but the second day was going to cost about $3,200. Overall, almost 5K for my dog who came in because she was dehydrated. She vomitted up all the leaves so she never had the lilly left in her system. Furthermore, the poison control suggests to use peroxide to induce vommitting in cases such as these, I know because of another past experience. Again, against their recommendation, I picked her up before they did anything further to her. The good new is that in about 4 days after I decided to simply give my dog milk thistle for her elevated enzymes, she was backed to her old self. THIS PLACE IS CLEARLY A MONEY MACHINE as other customers complained about. I believe that they take everyones' pets and sedate them until they can get to them whether that be that evening or a day later. It is absolutely sinful that they exist and out to make money on people's vulnerability with absolutely no respect to the animals, forget the owner! read more

I give this review ONE star based on having a horrible experience with DR NIEMCZYK . he was VERYunprofessional and as you can imagine if you are going into a emergency hospital they would need to have some empathy for your situation. He was rude to my husband and I and when asking questions he was very short with his answers. I have never ever met anyone like this before. we were signed to pay $6200 for our dog and with a 4200 deposit and my point is its not about the money its about the care. we were willing to do anything but you are also allowed to ask questions about the care and not be treated so rudely back. I had just gotten labs back the day before and he was saying he might have had Addison disease I responded with no he didn't based on his labs yesterday ( we were getting our doctor to fax the results of all the labs he had just had the day before) but I am a adult and in the medical field so I should be able to communicate what happened the day before. I asked if he was at least getting fluids and he said for what I don't even know why I am treating him. I HAVE NEVER met and will I ever want to meet someone like him. The END result he called me and said he was crashing and did I want to perform CPR well while you are calling me what is happening? yes I do. I pick up my dog, my family member that I was told did not make it and my vet was SHOCKED. he was GONE. I went the next morning and $300 for CPR and $1600 for the day. well I certainly hope they did try that for my sweet boy but ill never know. Dr Jessica urbonas was AMAZING and compassionate and my only regret is I didn't have her for my dogs care because with her knowledge and her heart I at least know he was cared for his last few hours. VERY disappointed and heart broken that this was the care. I could have gone to a hospital a lot closer and chose them. I will never let him care for an animal of mine again. my girlfriend had the same experience with him in Madison and unfortunately I didn't know this until after the fact. they have a job to do and i don't expect them to be upset like we are, of course but you have to realize its OUR pet and if you cant show compassion don't work in a EMERGENCY ROOM. read more

It is such a benefit to have a privately owned practice of this caliber in CT. Most large 24/7 animal hospitals are owned by chains that focus on profit and depersonalize care. We've had 3 dogs over the years cared for by Pieper-Olson and Pieper Memorial. We've needed gastrointestinal and orthopedic surgeries, neurology and internal medicine consults and emergency visits in the middle of the night. Our experience has always been positive. The staff is compassionate and attentive. We've had difficult decisions to make and the doctors always take the time to answer all our questions without judgment. They care about their performance and the well -being of the patients and the owners. read more

Many thanks to this professional and efficient hospital. The Vet was professional but caring. Thank you for your assistance in our time of sorrow. read more

Our Springer had near drowning experience last evening. Even though she seemed okay at first, her breathing became questionable. We found the entire experience at Pieper extremely professional and positive. The Vet that treated our dog was knowledgeable, had good suggestions, and was excellent with our very anxious dog. We recommend Pieper highly for emergency care needs. I do wish they'd re-open the Essex location as Middletown is quite far from Waterford in an emergency situation. read more

Dr. Hammond and Dr. Gross spoke in terms that non-medical people can understand and explained all the options. When I made the humane decision to put my cat down, I was not given the guilt treatment as some vets do. Although I like the vet I go to, Pieper Memorial is like a real hospital vs a walk in clinic. read more

I wish I could give negative stars. Never again. The staff knows nothing about working with animals and left me wondering why they became vets and techs. The vet actually hit my pet to get down at the end while I was trying to get my wallet. So many other complaints as well. This place makes money off of emergencies where there is no time to contemplate quality over a service that is open. Disgraceful. read more

Brought my 1 year old cat in on a Thursday night to have him be released next day at 9pm stating he was better. Only to return him at 630am on Sat. Morning same issue. Ultimately we had to put our ONE YEAR OLD cat down!!!! I would not recommend anyone taking their animal here, they care only about the bottom number and you paying up front 90 percent of the bill. They are so quick to give you the invoice instead of treating/ helping your pet. Highly upset and down right disgusted I had to say good bye to the best loving cat who trusted in me to take care of him and I let him down by bringing him here. I cry myself to sleep every night. I pray they loose sleep over the heartache they give families read more

A few nights ago, my family and I had to do the thing we had been dreading for years and put our sweet 13 year old golden retriever to rest. This was the hardest thing we have had to do. My family is still talking about the staff at Pieper Memorial Veterinary Hospital. They were so kind and sweet throughout the entire process. They gave us the biggest room they had and sat on the floor with us while we all cried. They did not rush us at all and waited on us to give them the okay to start the process, even though it was around 12:30 am. They also gave our sweet Maggie chicken which she loved. It was extremely hard for our family but they made it so that Maggie passed as peaceful as possible with all 6 of us around her. Could not be more grateful for them and would highly recommend as they were truly the nicest people in this circumstance. Thank you all for being so kind and treating our sweet Maggie girl so well. Really made us feel like you were going to take great care of her after we left her for the last time. read more

Very bad experience with the oncologist Dr Carrie DeRegis. We brought our dog Maty in to her after she was diagnosed with a tumor in her lung, She said she could do a biopsy that very day and we were told that it is a very easy procedure for the dogs who were given sedation and they have no issues post procedure We brought Maty home about 7 pm. We were given no medication for her. Maty had a terrible night and it seemed she was in pain. I called Pieper to speak with Dr DeRegis as soon as they opened the next morning and they took a detailed message about Maty. After no call back, I called again at 1030 AM and a tech got on the phone and was giving me her diagnosis on what could be causing Maty's discomfort. Maty would not get up, eat or drink at all. I asked to speak with Dr DeRegis again and was told she would call me back. Finally, about 230, I called again and the receptionist couldnt believe I had not gotten a return call yet. She put me on hold and finally Dr DeRegis picked up the phone and said ...." Im trying to see patients here!" I said, Im sorry, you did a procedure that was supposed to be very easy for Maty and it has been quite the opposite....she's not doing well at all. She said very bluntly...."Your dog is not eating because she has cancer, her symptoms are not from the procedure." All I know is that Maty wasnt like this pre-Dr DeRegis' procedure. So, if you want a completely uncaring vet, who thinks she has no obligation to return a call or care for your pet after she does a procedure on a patient, then she is the vet for you read more

ALL ABOUT THE MONEY & DIRTY & NEGLIGENT PLACE. My dog had a large tumor removed & stayed about 1 week with no food & very little water. I visited EVERY nite & he was so thirsty. I had to BEG for a water bowl. I had to repeatedly remind them he hadn't eaten. The doctor lied about the prospects & risks of very expensive & invasive surgery. If I knew the truth, I never would have put my beloved animal thru this HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. When it came time to euthanize my beloved dog, again I had to BEG them for help & to remove the urine soaked quilt from the previous dog. The floors were dirty every time I visited and I was so worried about my dog's abdominal incision coming in contact with the filthy floor & bacteria from previous animal who occupied the room. Disgusting & dirty place with negligent, immature & cold hearted staff. ... but they are really good at collecting money - A LOT OF MONEY for substandard care. Be careful. read more
