Bloodwork and surgery began immediately, and the surgeon followed up with me before scrubbing in and as soon as it was complete. Throughout his stay, the team called multiple times a day--exactly as promised--to keep me updated on his condition. At discharge, another veterinarian patiently reviewed the entire case with me to ensure I felt informed and confident going home. They even brushed his fur during his stay (thank you--he was shedding terribly, blowing his coat, and I hadn't gotten to it yet), a small but meaningful gesture that speaks volumes about their level of care. The front desk staff were incredibly kind, offering comfort and support as I sobbed in distress the night this all happened. I couldn't be more grateful that I brought my dog to Pieper. There is simply nowhere else we would trust our pets to when serious issues arise. Every vet experience in oncology, surgery and primary care has been beyond excellent, and it is always worth the drive for us. It is as much about the personal caring as the skill level these vets have. We have been through some tough issues with our two older girls, but they have had the very best care possible, and they have thrived beyond expectation. The radiology tech was so kind - a delight to interact with during a stressful time. I don't recall her name, but she should be recognized for her excellent customer service and warmth. So I was sent there again for ultrasound, OK Dr. N the radiologist did the ultrasound, poor quality with no actual image of the real issue, I wasn't able to wait any longer, as I had been there earlier until after 1 am and back to get this done just after 6 am, ultrasound got done after 10 am, waited around for another 2-/3 hours waiting for the results which I was told would be about 15 min, laughable, I was exhausted and wanted to leave (2 hours of sleep), told them he could call with the results, when he did finally call, he told me my pup had cancer and such, I told my vet thought it was a hernia he said its not its cancer, so I started looking for a 2nd opinion which I got at Cornell Veterinary specialist in Stamford, they even commented on the poor quality of the ultrasound, with no clear indication of the real issue, it turns out it was and is a penile hernia and an enlarged prostrate, far cry from cancer. So if you can't or are unqualified to do a ultrasound you truly do not belong in this field, you are everything a real vet isn't and a complete disgrace to the profession, you should give up your license and find a job better suited to you lack Veterinary care. Oh and the aspirate that was done showed a hernia. People this is a money hungry clinic with 6 offices over price considering they are making millions every yr., there are far better place to take your pet. As for me I was put into an enormous amount of stress and depression because of this so called radiologist, thinking my pup was going to be dead within an yr., can you imagine how you would feel. The only thing they could possibly do is refund me the cost of losing a days pay and bill from Cornell, which I don't see happening. MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL and this place is evil. I truly do not expect a response, way to narcissistic, and why should I call you to discuss this when you should be calling me. Go elsewhere folks do not support this place. read more

This clinic should not be seeing rabbits. Period. They call themselves "exotic pet experts" but couldn't even handle the basics of GI stasis. The overnight staff were completely unprepared -- young, visibly unsure of themselves, and acted like they'd never touched a rabbit before. That lack of confidence and knowledge cost my rabbit her life. They gave her subcutaneous fluids and sent us home. No mention of critical follow-up care: no syringe feeding instructions, no warnings about hydration, no plan to monitor her through the night. Just "wait and see." She was dead by morning. She cried out in my arms right before she passed. I'll never forget that sound. When I explained every symptom in detail the night before, they brushed it off. No urgency. No depth of understanding. Just blank stares and guesswork. And they call that vet care? If you care about your rabbit, don't bring them here. They are not equipped for anything beyond cats and dogs, no matter what they tell you. I had to bury my bunny the next day because this place treated her like an afterthought. read more

It's very reassuring to know that the hospital is open 24/7 with great staff. I'll also mention that my cousin, who lives in the Berkshires, has a dog who had a spinal injury. She brought him all the way to Pieper, where a neurosurgeon on staff operated on her dog and completely restored his mobility. Though the ED was crowded (mid day Saturday), every single staff we dealt with were attentive, kind, caring, well-informed and professional. I was amazed at how smooth and well organized the process was. The desk staff, the techs, the nurses and the vet were all fantastic. I came to feel comfortable handing over my pet to be administered anesthesia, have her wound irrigated, receive stitches, and get x-rays. Horrible place. Two VERY bad experiences personally plus the feedback from other people we know who have had to take their pets to Pieper are similar to our experiences. Each of my kids have had to take either their cat or dog here and each time Pieper let them down to the point that both animals died. Poor followup, conflicting diagnosises, poor attitudes towards questions asked. I looked at the reviews and Pieper has as many bad as good reviews. Wish there was another alternative in Connecicut. We went on a saturday night with an emergency with cat - no one else in state would take us and Massachusetts has nothing unless metro Boston. So we went 70 miles to Middletown. ER was packed, we waited 6 hours and drove home in morning. Thats not their fault. The dr was nice as was all the staff an they made sure our kitty was ok and not in renal failure or blocked. We are grateful to have them and will be our after hours emergency resource. read more

I'm deeply disappointed with the care my cat received in the emergency room. During a simple IV catheter placement, he was injured and has been limping ever since, almost a month later. He already has serious health issues, and this added pain was completely unnecessary. The staff acknowledged he was hurt, but brushed it off with "accidents happen." After a single call to check his paw, there was no follow-up. We had to keep updating them that he was still limping, with no real apology, concern, or accountability. It felt dismissive and uncaring. My cat deserved better, and I hope no one else has to go through this. read more

Heartless Experience at Pieper Olson I'm writing this because no pet owner should go through what I did. Saturday, November 2nd we waited three and a half hours while my dog was shaking, vomiting, and clearly unwell. No one came to check on him the entire time. When I finally approached the front desk, the woman simply said, "We go by the health status of the dogs." That was it -- no compassion, no explanation, nothing. It broke my heart to see my dog in pain and ignored. I understand emergencies happen, but the way they treat clients here is completely unacceptable. The staff lacked empathy, urgency, and professionalism. This was not our first bad experience, but it will absolutely be our last. Please think twice before bringing your pet here. They might have a fancy facility, but they've lost all sense of care and humanity. read more

Absolute phenomenal. I want Dr. Roy and the tech and front office person on Tuesday at 4 am in the morning to see this email. Sorry I can't remember their names. I had to rush my dog to Pieper at 4 am in the morning after visiting Powder Ridge the day prior about 12 hours. Powder Ridge Vet, placed my dog an Ataxia situation with the 3 meds prior to his visit to calm him down, added by trying to place a muzzle on Freckles and trying to place two different cones on his head. Freckles, and 8 year old rescue from Oklahoma was brutalized by there methods, anything but less stressful PERIOD! Back too Pieper Dr Rachel Roy , tech and staff saved my dog. The tech lifted my dog up by herself and brought a 71 pound dog into ER department. The front desk person made it simple, asking what she needed. I signed whatever was needed to save Freckles. I went into small patient room and within 10 minutes Freckles came in walking. He was paralyzed at home, could not move his rear legs, stand up and barely had signs of life. It was a miracle what Dr Roy did and tech. Blood work was performed without any issue. Dr Roy and tech handled my dog as it was their own with real care and affection. Blood and tick born test all came back within 10 minutes all good. Dr Roy did not push meds on Freckles. Rest and evaluate during the day. This is a 12-star visit. After a consultation and Xray the staff diagnosed that Bailey had to have immediate surgery and she was scheduled immediately. It's been 5 days so far and Bailey seems to be doing very very well. I was highly emotional because of my dog's prognosis, and reluctant, because I've had bad experiences with Pieper previously, but when I was referred to surgical for further consults, and I spoke with Jessenia, who was only focused on collecting a fee rather than what they would do for my sick dog, I immediately pulled him and we're going to ocean state. We highly recommend Pieper Veterinary emergency services. They handle a wide range of animals and have a convenient 24/7 system for emergencies on a walk-in basis. We have found the care to be timely, they use a triage system to rapidly see each new arrival and then follow through with the actual care based on emergency status of all the animals in the emergency clinic. The emergency clininc is well staffed, including at the central desk in the waiting area at all times in case there is a change in a pet's status. Most important, the quality of care is excellent. It's heart-wrenching to see a beloved pet in distress and in need of emergency care. Having Pieper Veterinary emergency services available when our regular vet is closed is such an important service. The staff are skilled and treat each pet with the utmost concern and care. I had a true emergency. My little guy jumped and lane wrong. He became paralyzed. I met with a doctor and she explained what happened. I was destroyed by the news. They showed me my options and the cost. Yes expensive but please keep in mind the cost to keep the facility working. I can't imagine what a MRI machines cost. The doctor treated me with compassion and the head surgeon called me the next day to discuss my Nico's options. Again treated me as a person and with compassion. They worked with me on the bottom line. I'm disabled on a limited income. Not Like another emergency hospital near bye the money wasn't the main subject. This place saved my German Pinscher named Bear! He took a hard fall down a huge flight of steps. After being denied care from another vet hospital, Pieper Veterinary hospital took him in. They did an MRI on him and then followed by surgery. They kept us updated on our baby Bear on a daily basis. He went in not being able to walk to now 4 days later, he's able to move his legs with assisted help. He will be on rest for 6 weeks. I honestly recommend this hospital! read more

Pieper's Veterinary ER would be state of the art for a human hospital ER. We went because our cat had what turned out to be a bowel obstruction. There were people bringing their pets from all over the state, not just dogs and cats but also a rabbit, an iguana, 2 birds, and a ferret. Just like any human ER, life-threatening issues were prioritized. At one point there was a pet with breathing difficulties and it was all-hands-on-deck for a bit. They have cancer and neurology depts. A few years ago, with a different pet, I learned they even have an MRI. It's centrally located in the state, easy to get to, and has a lot of parking. read more

Your team, both Georgie's Doctor and the Techs that treated Georgie were very kind and considerate. Your tech was heartbroken by the unfortunate loss of Georgie. We wish that there was some way that we could have consoled her. Georgie's Doctor prepared us gently about what might happen. He was right on the phone to us when things went sideways. Both the Doctor, a Staff Member, and the Tech spent time with us afterwards to make sure that we were okay. The compassionate attention that we received was phenomenal. Georgie now rests peacefully in a clearing in the forest behind our home. His resting place contains flowers and his favorite butter lettuce. His resting place is covered in plastic to keep out ground water and surrounded on all sides by pieces of slate. A 2ft. high rock pyramid marks his final resting place in front of which are planted yellow & red flowers. We will send a photo at a later date. We are very thankful for the compassionate way that we and Georgie were treated. We highly recommend Piper Veterinary to all who love their pets!! read more

This place has plenty parking and grounds to walk your pet before they go in for their appointment. Because this is a veterinary hospital, it can be a bit more costly then your neighborhood vet. The doctors and staff are friendly and very helpful for my pets needs. I would definitely recommend this place if your neighborhood vet can't help you. read more

I was with my friend at the vets and she had to put her dog down today. Remembering I had a paw print kit at home I ran home to get it and was back within 30 mins to ask them for a paw print. Nice lady at front desk took it in back to get it and her Manager Jane told her No. "Cant do it now"... I then learned that my friend had also requested a print at the time she had chosen the cremation, but WTH??? They couldnt do it!? Even if the dog was bagged and in the freezer already, open the bag and reclose. Kit was all set to go! Just needed press of paw! So cold hearted and cruel at a time and moment she needed comfort. Unless you have thousands of dollars to admit and hospitalize, they don't seem to offer much in alternatives. Not likely to go back!!! After the fact I realized there was much more they could have offered to try to help my cat!! They had no trouble performing the $400 ultrasound but never offered to do a simple urine test or tick Bourne disease blood test that might have helped. read more
