While there was quite a wait to be seen, that is to be expected when going to an urgent veterinary hospital. The doctor we saw took the time to talk to me after he was evaluated. I didn't feel rushed and was able to ask questions and feel confident in his diagnosis and treatment plan. They didn't perform unnecessary testing just to raise the price of the bill, which is what has happened to us at other facilities. The technician, Shelby, that took my dog's vitals and preliminary information upon arrival was great. She was friendly, personable and understanding. The first impression is always what sticks with you and gives you an idea of what to expect from the facility. After having a negative first experience at two other facilities, Shelby was a breath of fresh air and gave me peace of mind coming to this facility.

Sarah Byron, a doctor at the hospital, was very cold and lacked any kind of compassion or empathy…read moreduring a difficult time when we had to euthanize our dog, unfortunately. Understanding that when you are working with the animals, you are also working with the owners and the dogs' families. I will respect Dr. Byron's title; however, the lack of communication and social skills is concerning. When we asked for their name, and we accidentally said the wrong name, "Sue", Dr. Byron responded rudely and sarcastically, "Sure." However, I remember their name and respected their pronouns because I noticed they wore a "they/them" pin. I don't want to believe this was discrimination due to race, as Dr. Byron is a part of a marginalized community as well, maybe they had a rough day/evening. However, the lack of patience, empathy, and compassion during this time was heartbreaking. I would like to say a big thank you to Ashley, one of the nurses, the admin staff, and another doctor that we worked with during this time. Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center does better with empathy and compassion for the families you work with, as, yes, the services are for the animals. Still, they have connections with humans, too.

They are compassionate, knowledgeable, efficient, and very reasonably priced. One of our rescue dogs, Fiona, was extremely fearful when we first brought her in and needed to be muzzled for visits. Thanks to the patience and kindness of Dr. Michael and the staff, she now happily walks into the office and no longer needs a muzzle. That alone says so much about how they treat animals. Dr. Michael has helped Fiona through both a rare autoimmune condition and aggressive oral cancer with incredible skill and compassion. We ultimately chose her for Fiona's revision surgery because of the trust we have in her, how comfortable Fiona is with the office and staff, and the much more reasonable pricing compared to the specialty hospital. The surgical results were amazing -- you can barely tell anything was ever done. We trust Powder Ridge completely with our dogs and cat and highly recommend them.

Hello all, just following up on Freckles, who unfortunately had the owner of Powder Ridge Vet…read morehandling my dog in the worst way possible. Basically brought Freckles an 8 year old 2 month rescue dog from Oklahoma. By far, over 55 years, best dog I have ever had. Freckles even had a minor surgery with Dr Albin a few year back. He was great. Had to drug my dog up with 3 meds, upon arrival Freckles was laying on floor of large room placed into. Corrine new of my dog, she was awesome as always, showed compassion. The tech and Dr Micheals, owner and vet came in a disaster took place. Tried placing a muzzle on Freckles, a no no, dog has never been in muzzle for anything. Then tried to surgical collars, one the size for a horse. With Freckles under sedatives, Freckles had nothing to do with all there methods to get 4 shots. I waved the blood test for heartguard. My dog was so stressed, never seen him act this way, and still did not growl or snap, which they lied and said he did. I was there 100 percent of the visit. Well next morning, 330 am, Freckles was paralyzed not only from the medicine directed on the bottle , but could not walk 100%, had no idea what was going on, was having a mental and orthopedic event. Bottom line, rushed him to Pieper Olson, Dr Roy in ER room got Freckles to walk and took blood to check for anything including tick born issues. Said Freckles was one of the easiest dogs ever to secure blood from right rear leg. My cost was $600, absolutely well spent money. Powder Ridge Vet has completely changed for the absolute worst. Even the folks working the front desk seem so stressed, no one smiles. There was a paper jam in the printer, two people kept going back and forth about this, too much paper, not enough paper, one had to win the conversation. Kudos to a young doctor at Pieper DR ROY. Terrific ER doctor and did not prescribe any drugs for Freckles. I never experienced such brutal handling of my dog. I have read many reviews now and have noticed many are going one star. Just wanted folks to understand. Feel free to call me at 860 227 7425 if you would like to discuss true facts, nothing more what took place.

No tests, no labs, nothing. It turns out he had a severe liver issue and was successfully treated by his regular vet. They charged me 350 dollars for that abomination after spending 3 1/2 hours waiting there with my young daughter. The second time was this past Friday which turned out to be one of the most traumatizing days in a long time. My dog which is 11, has been perfectly healthy, active, normal and thriving. No issues whatsoever. I brought him to Central in Guilford because he was coughing up a strange white foam the coughing persisted for a few hours. I clearly described the issue to Vet Tech and was expecting them to evaluate him for any obstruction or related problem. Instead they tell me that he has a heart murmur (which I knew about and was never told to be concerned about it) and that he is in heart failure and has 6 months to live. The doctor who treated him was extremely rude and defensive and showed no empathy or compassion while I was bawling in the office. A couple of things to note: they stuck my dog in an oxygen cage because they said he was breathing shallow and was very animated. Well yeah, because it was hot out, and he was excited about going in the car and to a new place. Then they proceeded to put him on Lasix and give him some sedative without asking me first. The performed other diagnostics and the doctor presented me with a bill for 900 dollars which wiped out my entire account. Then the doctor comes in and tells me they want to hospitalize him to monitor him more. Thank God I didn't. She then proceeded to give me the option to euthanize him. I almost vomited right there. Are you serious lady? You're pushing me to kill a perfectly normal, active, stable dog? What kind of business are these people running? So needless to say, I have made a follow up appointment with our regular vet who will do a thorough reevaluation. Even if it turns out that my dog has heart failure, he is not going to abruptly tell me that we only have 6 months with him or that we should put him down. After researching on my own, the data clearly contradicts this doctor's prognosis. In fact, dogs that receive the proper treatment and care can live for another 1-2 years. What morons these people are. And the "owner" that responded to my review on another platform is disgusting and should be barred from practicing veterinary medicine.
