Fresh pizza ingredients make me happy. That's why I like this place. I wish the pies were a little larger and a little thicker---but it's very good. Whenever we get takeout it gets cold by the time we get home so if you are planning on doing takeout- warm your oven a bit. I have not tried the pasta but I like the salads and the strombolies. When I'm looking for quick Italian food, this is the spot that I frequent. The meat lasagna and sweet tomato penne are pretty good. The meat lasagna is sweet, but not overly sweet. The sweet tomato cream penne is good for someone who is looking for a pasta dish with a creamy sauce. The restaurant doesn't have an Alfredo chicken dish, so this is what I normally order. The antipasto salad is also a good choice with chopped up Italian meats, olives and banana peppers (yum!). The service is pretty decent. I have never had any major issues there. The restaurant has a rewards system that I would recommend if you frequent this spot. You have to download their App, which is called Cardagin. After accruing points, you can get rewards such as $5 off. When you pay for your meal, mention that you have the app. You will have to write your phone number down on your receipt so they can record your points. For this season, they have a gift certificate promotion. If you buy a $50 gift certificate then you get an extra $10 off your next meal. Well, these were already 5 of my favorite words in the English language - together there's a synergy that can't be described. I'll try to boil it down to something simple: YUMMY!! So your probably wondering why just 4 stars. First - I save my 5 Star Ratings for someplace that you really don't want to miss. If you follow my reviews and see 5 stars then you should carry your ass down there and eat right away. Trust and believe - it's something worthwhile. Back to pie-tanza. For my entree I had the meatball sub with a Caesar Salad. The meatballs were tasty but over mixed and left without a real meaty texture. This is really a personal preference - I believe based on taste they're homemade, but they have that texture / consistency of something store bought. It was nice to have plenty of cheese melted over the top. The Caesar was a side, but the lettuce wasn't very crispy - like it had been mixed and left in the bowl for a while. The dressing - NICE - good flavor, lots of anchovy, classic, not one of those fake Caesar dressings like you get from the salad bar at the office cafeteria. Service is consistently good. I was late already and had an online course I had to finish for work that night. The server I had was understanding, checked in to make sure everything was ok, but clearly knew I was focused in the iPad and he didn't bother me. Worst Customer Experience Ever! Last night at Pie-Tanza I had the worst experience ever in my life at any restaurant. When I entered the restaurant I saw my pizzas were ready and asked if I could pick them up. There was a crowd at the takeout counter in the back and I asked the man at the pizza oven if he would help me secure my order which was already stacked on the table waiting for pickup. He told me I had to get in line. The take out counter line was crowded, not moving, and nothing being ordered. I went back to the pizza table hoping that staff person would come back out. That is when Ed rudely told me I couldn't take my pizza and to get in line. A staff person offered to get my ticket so I could take my pizza but she never came back. When the line at the takeout counter wasn't moving Ed came back to see what was going on and asked if anyone was here picking up an order. He saw me and knew that I was picking an order and ignored me for another person in line. This person said he could wait on me but Ed said it doesn't work that way and that he will decide who gets to pick up orders and in what order. When it was finally my turn I asked him why he hadn't waited on me and he said, "do you want your pizza or not, I don't have time for this," and still wouldn't get my pizza. He again asked for my name knowing who I was since I had already told him my name and he had already seen my pizzas in the queue. He doesn't have time to get my pizza and apologize for the wait? Especially for a patron who's been with the restaurant since it opened? I have never seen him before. He is rude and belligerent. I can't imagine what he is like with his staff. The tone he used with me and the attitude of his demeanor was rude and unprofessional. He owes me an apology for this behavior. read more

Had an unfortunately bad experience at this restaurant. Owner of the restaurant, ED McKee should manage the restaurant and stay away from customer service. When another customer ignored the pick up lines, ED proceeded to help them (likely knew them) and when I let that customer know that we are standing in-line waiting to pick our food as well, Ed interjected and basically said he can do whatever he wants because he is the owner. I cancelled my order and left never to come back. Beware this owner as he is, in my humble opinion, a cranky old man that runs his business like it's 1960. Plenty of other restaurants around here that serve better food and don't insult and berate customers and that's where I'm taking my money and my business. read more

This is a very family friendly restaurant located in the strip mall by the Harris Teeter. My husband and I were sat right away and chose to sit at the bar. That way we could watch the pizzas being made. Our waitress was extremely attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. She was very polite. Apps: Mozzarella sticks. The description of them seemed like they would be homemade. I wouldn't say that though. They were good, but defiantly not homemade. Just your standard mozz sticks. The marina was good. Wouldn't order again though. Meatballs and spaghetti: the noodles were cooked nicely. The marina was good, it was the same marinara with the mozzarella sticks. Nothing super special. I wasn't impressed by the meatballs. They didn't taste like homemade meatballs. When you eat a good homemade meatball you just know. I'm half Italian so my grandma would make them all the time. The fresh Parmesan shaved on top was excellent. I would order this again, maybe. Linguine bolognese: my husband and I thought it was ok. If I could have pizza every day, I would have pizza EVERY DAY! That's how much I love pizza. OK - Moving on to my review of Pie-Tanza. Pie-Tanza, we can't get enough of you. We absolutely love their pizzas and meatballs. If you haven't tried their meatballs yet, do yourself a favor and order one meatball next time. It's home-made and very, very good. Our last visit to Pie-Tanza, we ordered their Primo Pepperoni. This has to be my favorite pizza here because of the size of their Pepporoni's. It is the perfect amount of food for two people with a salad to split at the beginning of your meal. We have also had their Sausage, Onion and Peppers pizza, which was also very delicious. My friend who is gluten-free says she loves their gluten-free options here as well, so plenty of options for everyone. Enjoy! read more

I had a gluten free pizza and my dining partner had the special wood fired sausage, onion, and pepper pizza (not gluten free, regular). The crust on both were way too thin and crispy - even on the regular one the dough was not pillowy in the slightest, and the sauce on mine had a few spices but wasn't overly flavorful. I don't think I'll be back unless as a last resort. We are local to pie-tanza and have been ordering pizzas from them since they first opened, I don't know how many years ago. However, they seem to be under different management. Since a few months before the pandemic started, they have gotten our take-out order wrong more times than not. Their pizzas are delicious so we order again. And again, they get it so wrong, we've thought they gave us the wrong order. But that's not the case. Their kitchen staff simply gets it all-the-way wrong. Not even close to what we ordered! Tonight, they did it again. This is The LAST Time we give them our business. This is the DC Area! There are plenty of pizza places in this area who make delicious specialty pizzas and know how to accurately prepare an on-menu selection. I had their roasted veggie pizza and my colleague had a pizza with mushroom and spinach. The ingredients were very fresh and the pizza overall was pretty tasty. However, my pizza was very soggy on the bottom and I would've preferred a more substantial crust. My colleague said the same. It's not authentic Italian and it's not authentic Italian-American. Borderline bland in comparison. Less rich, less complex, less flavorful on all counts. Still, as good as anything I've had in the area for the price. -Fresh? Yes, very. -Large portions? Yes, very. -Price worth it? Yes, absolutely. Service was friendly and fast. Filled with local families, friends, and couples every time I walk inside. For what it is, what's not to like?! Penne w/ tomato cream: a nice dish, not super heavy cream sauce. White meat chicken is plentiful if a bit dry. Bolognese w/ linguine: Satisfying. Not super rich, deep stove-top flavors. More like a thick meat sauce with some tomatoes cooked in it. I saw several people eating this. They do a chunkier Bolognese, so I'd technically prefer a penne or shell shaped pasta with this Bolognese. Linguine was a bit overcooked, but I had this for takeout. Honestly, I walked away happy. Pizza looked good too for the thin-crust crowd. They have some of the best meatballs I've ever had outside of my own and I litterally crave them. Anytime we cater, I always break off a bunch of meatballs for myself to eat the next day. As someone who is deathly lactose intolerant but loves cheese, I try to limit my cheese in take unless I really want cheese. I actually have never had pie-tanza's pizza because it hasn't sparked my interest pizza wise, BUT the rest of the menu is extremely strong for a pizza place. From the angel hair pasta dish to the mussels in white wine sauce this place has amazing food outside of your conventional pizza. The side salad comes with a light oil based dressing and pairs well with all the pasta dishes. If you're not a pizza person, but the people you're with want pizza, come here and try the rest of the menu. You won't be disappointed. Parking here SUCKS! This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. the restaurant may as well double as a day care. It was packed with kids who appeared to have the run of the place. I ordered the lasagna and it was just terrible. When it arrived I started digging through the pan looking for a noodle and found just one. ONE NOODLE in the entire lasagna. I showed the waiter and he said that "sometimes they dissolve when it cooks." Anyone here ever heard of dissolving noodles? I flagged down a manager and she was equally unsympathetic. I requested a plate of noodles, any kind of noodles, so I could add them to the pile of cheese that they tried to pass off as lasagna. Eventually I got some noodles, but it was too late. She later brought out an uncooked lasagna to show me that they do have noodles in there, and ironically she could only point to TWO noodles in her The manager said she would remove the lasagna from our bill, and then she took our credit card. I haven't had "the real deal" in other cities, but I can't imagine it being that much better. Friendly service, good wine, great food, and good prices make this one of my favorite places to dine in the area. Pie-tanza gets a lot of hype in Lee Harrison as a beacon of kid-friendly atmosphere with adult-friendly food and beverages. However, I found the whole experience to be just blah. It's true, the restaurant is large and they come fully equipped to handle kids of all ages. The children's menu is pretty lengthy and has options that are appropriate even for young toddlers. But things went downhill from there. The fountain drinks were grossly watered down. My husband's calzone was pretty much crust and skimpy cheese filling. My turkey wrap was sopping wet, to the point where I was able to hold it from a 90 degree angle and watch liquid mayonnaise drip out - yum! We dropped in at lunchtime on a Saturday while the place was pretty empty, so maybe we just had the misfortune of getting the B or C squads making our food. Still, there are other better options for pizza in the area so I probably won't be back. read more

I really do like this place, but it isn't the best. It's a fun casual place to roll into on a whim. It feels like a neighborhood, mom and pop kind of place where the local girls are working to save up for college. We get the carafe or half carafe of house wine. It's not great wine but it is OK table wine and the price is good. The service isn't excellent but it is sufficient. The pizza is really quite good. We get the vegetarian roasted vegetable pizza pretty much every time with a couple substitutions. The food is pretty fast, it's tasty and inexpensive which is a good combo. The crust is great. The sauce is very well seasoned and the vegetables are fresh and flavorful. Did I forget the cheese? The cheese is great. We usually split a salad which is plenty big for two people and also a couple steps above your normal restaurant side salad. I don't think we were ever blown away by the deserts but I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at them either. The main problem with this restaurant is that it is next to "tacos" which is how I playfully refer to Taqueria el Pablano. Moving on, the actual food is wonderful, with an appetizer, (good calamari) pizza is enough for two (or one with a huge appetite), crispy not-too-thin crust baked a a wood fired oven, yes there can be some burn spots on some pies, that's a bummer. Toppings are just right, not piled excessively onto the pizza, and they have a great variety of pies. If you're not feeling the pizza, try a solid sandwich or italian dish with quality ingredients. Portions are just right to eat in one sitting, don't count on taking much home unless you eat small. Desserts are tasty but pretty standard. We were very pleased with our dining experience. We arrived about 7:40 on a Friday night, thinking we might have to wait, but the staff cleared a table for us immediately. The decor is really cute---painted Italian scenes on walls, centered around a giant wood fired oven and pizza making station. The aroma was incredible. It's unusual for my roommate and I to have more than an entree when we eat out. At Pie-Tanza, we were so drawn in, we had three courses and drinks. There is a special house wine special, which is $9.99 for a carafe---brilliant as we each got 1.5 glasses for basically $5. We split the mixed greens salad, which the staff was nice enough to split onto two plates in the back for us. The salad was flavorful, and the addition of roasted red peppers was a nice touch. My roommate and I each ordered a pizza for dinner and split them: the four cheese and the grilled vegetable. The pizzas came out steaming hot, with the perfect crust-cheese-sauce ratio---delicious! In the end, we were drawn into the dessert menu and split the brownie sundae, which was a win again as the brownie was warmed and topped with ice cream and whipped cream. Our server was excellent, the dining environment was pleasant and the food was delicious and not overly expensive. So I was looking for lunch something quick one day and this place looked pretty nice. Although I haven't actually tried the pizza yet - they cook their pizza with a wood fired oven. I read an article on the wall that said they have to build extra supports on the flooring to hold the massive oven and knock out the front of the bstore just to get it in. The people there are very friendly. I ordered a steak and cheese sandwich and veggie lasagna which I really liked. I would definitely go again to try more items. Went back and tried a pizza plus a pasta dish. The pasta dish was VERY good - tomato cream sauce. MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm. Pizza was good too, but I was definitely more impressed w/ the pasta. read more
