I tried Pie-Tanza out for the first time with a Groupon. Everything about it was 100% perfect. The iced tea with lemon tasted like it was brewed with hiqh quality tea. The water tasted like it was fresh from the spring. The service was excellent and the establishment was responsive to my needs. The staff there make you feel like your visiting your italian family for lunch or dinner. They treat you as if you were like family. My lasgna was so rich and hearty with lots of herbs and spices and had finely ground beef. It melted in your mouth it was so delicious. For the first time today, I tried an espresso souffle with espresso ice cream. It was amazing. I will be visiting this establishment again!!! This was the best money I ever spent!!! read more

We put in an online order, only to show up and the person at the counter state that the online order cannot be printed out and that we need to order at the restaurant (really!). That wasted the 20 mins the website said it would take for our order to be ready. Then they forgot the drink which we found out at home. The chicken parm sub was dry with little sauce and no flavor. Pizza was good, but that was it about this experience. We have been a few times in the past because the food is pretty good (4 stars) but will look at petes, lost dog, italian store in the future. read more

Great pizza - nice toppings, delicious crust. I usually call and go and pick it up since I live close by. The pizza is always ready in 15-20 minutes and is waiting when I arrive. The restaurant is always pleasantly busy and filled with families. I have not eaten in the restaurant but it seems to have a nice atmosphere. Only drawback is that it can be hard to get parking in the strip mall - it is always PACKED due to several popular restaurants and the Harris Teeter. Recommend parking in the garage behind the Harris Teeter and then walking through the grocery store. read more

Our family would be lost without this restaurant! We've eaten almost the entire menu and love it. The food comes quickly and yet we never feel rushed. Both my parents and my in-laws always request to go here when they visit from out of town. The staff are really great, and I noticed that they have had many of the same staff members for many many years. Surely that says good things about it being a good place to work. came back and tried some different stuff. the anitpasto pizza was delightful. lots of meat and lots of flavor. Also ordered the italian cobb salad. lots of different ingredients so it actually made the salad enjoyable, but i thought there was too much hard boiled eggs in there. (but maybe its just because i dont like hard boiled eggs.) either way, the crust is really good. really really good. i ate almost the whole pizza by myself! oh - and i was able to use a restaurant.com gift certificate which made the bill come out to half of what it shouldve been! read more

After living in Italy for three years, and having been stateside for two, Pie-tanza is refreshing and reminiscent of an Italian dining experience with excellent food and service at its core. I mainly came to try the pizza (sausage with peppers and onions) but was equally delighted with the calamari, wine, music and relaxed environment. The only thing that would have made it better was caffe correcto alla grappa which I didn't see on the menu. I gave it four stars because I haven't tried another small business owned pizzeria in Virginia. Still, a legit place for great pizza and Italian eats. read more

This is the first time we have had their pizza. If you have been to italy, or anywhere in europe where italians make pizza, you will want this pizza. I am always in a rut when I go to Pie Tanza because I cannot imagine going and not getting the Sweet Cream Penne. The people I take there have gotten pizza, salad, and calzones. I would definitely recommend spliting the half ceasar it is HUGE. This is a kid friendly resturant, but its not a Chuck E Chese either. This is a go to for me when out of town guests visit. Pie-Tanza is perfect for the whole family. It is very relaxed, and the service is great. Everything on the menu is sure to be very good. You can find almost any Italian dish on the menu from classic pastas to adventurous salads, and pizza with almost any toppings you want. The pizza has a unique taste because it is wood-fired, right there in the middle of the restaurant. Some favorites include the generous portion of spaghetti and meatballs and the crispy and refreshing caesar salad. You can also find food that is not Italian, including the Roast Turkey Wrap (highly recommended). A perfect way to top off the meal is with any of the delicious desserts. A sweet and filling chocolate brownie sundae is fun and yummy, and the cheesecake, tiramisu, and canolis are also fun and sure to be great! As Mike C. says, it is thin-crust pizza at its best - excellent ingredients paired with nicely scorched but chewy crust. But it is expensive - $100 before tip for four adults and two young kids. Plus, the bathrooms, while clean inside, are adjacent to the dining area and reached by translucent doors - freaky. read more

I have never written a review on any website...ever! And I love excellent food. I live in DC and have gone to Pie Tanza three times in the last 2 months. Every time I have the mozzarella, tomato, and basil sandwich. I don't remember a better mozzarella. It reminds me of the homemade kind I used to get at a tiny Italian store in the East Village of NYC. The garlic bread is also amazing...incredible amounts of garlic. We will return often and try more of the menu. And the staff is very, very friendly. read more

Parking is not a problem if you park under Harris Teeter. This is a casual place with lots of families, so it is not peaceful. The pizza is wood fired and good, and the other dishes are good basic comfort food. Don't expect "haute cuisine" but the basic stuff is done well and you will have leftovers for another day as the portions are generous. If you are realistic in your expectations for a place of this sort, you will enjoy it. read more

Our family loves, loves this place. Our favorites are the pizza, the chicken walnut salad with lemon dressing, and above all, the BRUCHETTA. Beyond excellent. The service is always friendly and prompt. We try not to go on weekends, as the wait can be long, and the place can be packed with young families. Seriously family-friendly pizza place. The kids love it, and everyone else enjoys it, too. The kids recommend the individual pizzas and the kid's portion of spaghetti and meatballs. They usually share a side dish of steamed veggies and another side dish of fresh fruit. (Pie-Tanza gets major points from me for having these options available on the children's menu.) This is one of my favorite restaurants in Arlington. All of the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. The thin-crust pizzas are delicious- I recommend the sweet tomato, sausage onion pepper, or primo pepporoni. You can also make your own. The calzones are HUGE and the bread/cheese in them is amazing. All of the sandwiches come with large sides (salads, fries, fruit, or soup). The sweet tomato cream penne is the best thing on the menu. I also like the fried mozzarella. The Harrison center has a variety of restaurants including Pie-Tanza, a popular restaurant known for its italian cuisine. Going to Pie-Tanza, I was in the mood for pasta, rather than a slice of pizza. Normally, an Italian restaurant would have a decent selection of pastas on their menu. But Pie-Tanza's menu does not contain much of a selection; maybe a couple pasta dishes were included. The pizza is just O-K; there is nothing special about Pie-Tanza's pizzas, but the thin crust is a nice touch. Pie-Tanza is very family friendly. Families of all kind come in to enjoy themselves. Go to Pie-Tanza if you are looking for a good time, but not amazing food. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for about six years now. My kids love this place and ask to eat here all the time. The kid's menu is outstanding and hence the FIVE stars. The adult menu is great also. Pizzas very thin and outstanding. There are some items that just missed the spot, like the Lemon Chicken Salad barely has any discernible lemon taste (or taste in general). Thank goodness for Pie Tanza! Their food is consistently delicious and fresh. The service is fast yet friendly. We come here practically every time we want to take our children out to eat because of the kids menu, spacious layout of the restaurant, friendliness of the wait staff, and their tools for entertaining kids (balls of pizza dough to play with and crayons for coloring their kids menus). Price is fair, especially considering the other stores in this shopping center tend to be pricey. I highly recommend thee turkey wrap, tuna melt, salads and pizza, of course. Only giving two stars because the food is good enough, but had a terrible experience with service on a Saturday afternoon. It past 2pm, so it wasn't too busy. There were at least 6 servers wandering around (about 1 for each table with customers). But it still took almost 10 minutes for anyone to come to our table, and then once we ordered, it took another 10 minutes to get our drinks and then our beers were the wrong size (to their credit, they charged us for the smaller size, though they had brought us bigger ones). Food was good, though the pietanza salad is way overpriced for what you get. After having really slow service at the beginning, our server suddenly seemed in a big hurry to get us out. While there was still food on all our plates, she appeared and started clearing all our plates without asking if we were done. I had to tell her that we weren't done and her response was to offer boxes to take home. You would have thought it was closing time (maybe the end of her shift??). Then she came back with boxes for our leftover pizza and started stacking up our glasses - which we definitely weren't done with. We had water, juice, beer, all still in our glasses and she just proceeded to stack them up and take them away without a word. We know being a server isn't always fun, so we never complained about anything during our meal, and were very polite guests. The worst happened at the end anyway, so at that point we just wanted to leave. Most of the reviews here are good for this restaurant so I can only think it's a fluke, but it was so frustrating and I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else! Pizza is okay. Problem is the children running around the restaurant. I like that it is child friendly, but it would be nice if it were also good for adults. Do NOT go to this location unless you like being surrounded by screaming children. Parents pay no attention to the children -- who, literally, run all over the restaurant, throw food, and scream for attention. Even running in to pick up a pizza is unpleasant because one has to dodge the children, and the food on the floor. Staff can only do so much. read more

Food is great, and we love going there for takeout. However the last 2 times we went there for dinner, a kid was crying or screaming for extended periods of time while the parents ignored it. Kids run around this place like it's Gymboree! If you go after 9 pm you can have a semi-quiet meal. But anytime before that, you might as well eat in the middle of a playground with kids screaming all around you and no parents paying attention to their wild children. read more
