We tried this place on the recommendation of a few people. I came away unimpressed. I had the steak and ale pie and my buddies had pies as well. My pie had little steak in it and was mostly the filling. The crust was pretty good. I had a Boddingtons (sp?) on tap and it was extremely bland. As a Brit, I am of course bias, but honestly this place is a gem within the excessive number of average chain restaurants in Pooler. The pies here are all baked fresh and very tasty, they have some great British chocolate to buy which I'm sorry, but is so much better than any American chocolate that money can buy. This is one of my favorite lunch places to go to for sure and I have it on my weekly rotation. Well done guys, I really appreciate the business you've created. I love this shop! I always get the hot Chicken and Thyme pie. The crust is buttery and flaky and the chicken is perfectly baked with so much flavor. I took a bite of the steak and mushroom and it was amazing, as well. It tasted like Salisbury steak. I wanted to try a cookie or sweet pie, but was incredibly stuffed. The woman who helped us was extremely kind and helpful. The shop itself has a nice area with tables and British candy and tea. Well I was craving this place for a long time, and probably created a lot of expectations about it. Finally was able to visit it and it was Ok. We had some hot pies, chicken alfredo, meat and mushrooms and I have the pocket of spinach and feta and the one with potatoes and cheese and cheese and they were good. Not what I was expecting tho. The crust was flaky and savory which was good but was a little too much. I tried the chicken alfredo (well the broccoli) and it needed a little more flavor to it. The food is not bad but not my taste. I have to say that they have a good clientele, and were pretty busy with people looking for pies to go. I LOVE this place. They have AMAZING pies. The crust is so rich and thick and buttery with delicious savory fillings. The best chicken pot pie ever! We've also had their apple pie, pecan pie, steak & potato, chicken & thyme, lasagna, and shortbread. All delicious. You can stop by and get hot pies or pick up cold ones to-go, and they even have some frozen items. Everything is homemade and fresh. I took my mom & aunt here for their Buckinghamshire high tea when they came to visit and it was incredible. One of the best high teas I've ever had. They give you SO much delicious food. You have to make a reservation and they only offer it at their Pooler location. The table was set & waiting for us when we arrived. They serve a pot of tea with tea sandwiches on homemade breads (we got egg salad & cucumber), mini quiches, shortbread (chocolate), mini scones with fresh cream & jam, and an assortment of small cakes (we got mini pavlovas, pastries, mini bakewell tarts). I was visiting Savannah, GA and staying at a hotel close by the Pooler location. Whenever I am in a different city I like to look to find out if there are any British restaurants/food stores because I am from England. I arrived on Wednesday, June 30th in the afternoon. My friend and I decided to go to this location for supper. From the moment we walked in we did not feel welcome. The young lady at the cash register was not happy to see us. I thought it was because they closed at 6:30 pm, and it was 5:30 pm. My first question to her was, "where is the menu?" She pointed to the blackboard above with the menu on it and rolled her eyes. Yes, perhaps that was a daft question. However, I had never been there before. I ordered the full portion of fish and chips. My friend ordered the Chicken pot pie. I also asked for a water and a Millionaire Bar. We got our order and I realized that I didn't get the option of gravy or curry which came with the fish and chips. I asked her if the order came with gravy or curry and she said "yes" and their was silence. I said, "well...I'd like the gravy please." Very awkward! Then I realized I didn't get my water. I asked her about it and she said that I was to get it from the cooler. Would have been good if she had mentioned that earlier. As mentioned, my friend had the Chicken Pot Pie. He didn't like it. I tried it too, and it had a tangy/vinegar flavor to it. The fish and chips that I had were okay. The fish was just thrown on top of the chips. My friend thought that perhaps she was upset with me because I didn't tip her right away when we ordered our food. I thought maybe she was upset because she was the only staff working. I primarily went to the Pooler Pie Society because it sounded so interesting and different from other places. I have been three times and mostly had pastries. I found most everything to be good-especially the Nutella pastry. Their crusts are excellent. My only complain or challenge is-when you go-the offerings are different everyday. Just because you saw something there once, doesn't mean it will be there the next time. I went once at 9 AM looking for a breakfast item and then say "most things will be coming from our bakery around 10." The best thing are there are so many delicious British groceries to try. Even the British version of Lay's snack bags are worth trying. We both ordered Quiche Lorraine which you would expect to be a popular item at a pie bakery. We are convinced it was reheated and suspect in a micro-wave. They did have some personal size pies that were in a heated display case, but what we ordered was not. The quiche crust was a bit gummy as you would expect if it were reheated as we suspect it was. I have had much better. We will probably go back to try one of their other pies but what we have had so far was very disappointing for a specialty restaurant. read more

ALL CRUST WITH VERY LITTLE FILLING, specifically their non-dessert pies. Seven or so years ago before I left Pooler I sometimes purchased what I call meal pies (non-dessert pies) at Pie Society and recall enjoying them. Maybe my memory is poor. Regardless, having recently moved back I quickly renewed my visits. I've now had a variety of several different (7 or 8, maybe 9) meal pies over the last few weeks and will not go back. Besides being overpriced, EVERY ONE OF THEM can best be called thick crust and flour pies since the overwhelming majority of the pie is crust and flour with very little main ingredients - emphasis on VERY little. It is obvious that they are intentionally ripping off their customers. Well, they won't be ripping me off anymore. Do NOT waste your money on their thick crust pies. read more

Keep Calm and Eat Pie A friend of mine from London and I recently read about this restaurant in ConnectSavannah. We have been aching for authentic English food for some time now. Let me say that, after visiting today, we were not even minimally disappointed. This is the best restaurant to hit Savannah in a long time. Everything is homemade and affordable. I had the steak and ale meat pie and she had the Chicken and Thyme pie (They were already sold out of Cornish Pasties). Anyway, both pies were amazing.... And let me not forget the Victoria Sponge for dessert with double cream and raspberry jam. Delicious as it gets. We just can't stop talking about this place and I've already sent out 'spam' emails to my coworkers and friends. That's just how excited I am that they landed here in town. Don't just take my word for it. Look at the average review. Boy do these guys bake some INCREDIBLE dishes. First pie I got many months ago was the steak and potato pie. Second was the steak and ale. I've known about this for a little over a year but never went. I regret that decision now because the food was AMAZING! I got the chicken curry and raspberry dessert. Highly recommend this place! Today my coworkers and I stopped by the Pie Society. It was AWESOME!!!! I had the steak and mushroom, delicious!!! My coworker had the Chicken and Thyme, had a bite it was YUMMY!! The pie crust was flaky and buttery tasting....mmm yummy!! The style of the place is very simple European. Totally random side trip here because a YELP review mentioned "Bakewell Tart" . That reviewer said the fondant was a little too sweet so they peeled it off. Hello, too sweet? I'm in. It's been years since I've had a Bakewell Tart. Right now it's in the back seat of our car as we continue on our journey. It's calling my name, but I'm planning this carefully. I don't know if I should enjoy it later with a cup of coffee, a glass of milk, or maybe a proper British cuppa. I will have to make the right decision since I was very good and purchased just a single slice. Oh god, I hope no one else wants any. If they do I'll try to deflect them with the savory pies I got. Hey, wouldn't you rather have this steak and ale pie, or how about a chicken pot pie instead? I'll see how that goes over. Bottom line, a lovely little pie shop with a very pleasant person behind the counter. No Coleman's mustard, but I did get a mug. They had some tables for anyone looking to have some pie right there. I decided to stop in here with my family for comfort food. The food was fresh and hot and the customer service was excellent. We enjoy going to places like this that are more quiet and laid back as I have twin toddlers and they get easily distracted and do better in this setting. Next time, we will call ahead so they can throw in a meal prior to our arrival. The dish was large enough that I had plenty to take home for leftovers. We will definitely return! read more

I came in here to pick up a sweet pie to celebrate a co-workers birthday at work, and was pleasantly surprised by the array of options here...so many pies! I will have to come back for lunch one day to try some of the other types, but as far as what I did pick up I will say that when we dug in and had our first bites, we were even more delighted by the delicious almond flavored cake, with a raspberry jam layer inside of a crust, with a sweet thin layer of icing. There are lots of pies with a variety of flavors (beef, pork, chicken, etc.), both savory and sweet. If you go early enough they even have some shortbread cookies and scones available. I had the Cornish Pasty and the Steak & Mushroom pie. The Pasty had great flavors and the flaky crust was awesome. The Steak & Mushroom pie was equally incredible. The items can be a little salty but flavors are mouthwatering! Every time we drive by town we make it a point to stop for either eat-in or take-home. The only reason it's a 4-star and not 5 is that it only offers some of its pies in the hot option for dining in and the cold pies are only take-home (they do not reheat them in house). Have not tried the sweet pies but if they are anything like the savory pies I am sure I will love them too. If you have never tried Pie Society I highly suggest you do. Update: We come here on a regular basis now and I tried the apple pie. It was good and not sicky sweet like most. There was sugar sprinkled on top and the apples were tender not mushy.
