This review is just on their spinach, onion, and tomato quiche and I hope it is received constructively. Their pot pies, like the steak and ale, are awesome and they are greatest people! The quiche tastes great except the ratio of cheese to egg is way too much. Almost an inch of cheese (my arteries feel punished and better not have my cholesterol checked) and maybe a quarter inch of egg. It should be the other way around. read more

I was absolutely blown away by the excellent flavor of everything I sampled. Starting with the flavor explosion of the blue cheese pasty , persuaded me that desert was a MUST . Enter the most proper of Victorian Sponges with and indecently creamy center . And the lovely China it is presented on really does make for first bite swoon. We enjoyed the patio seating , the counter ordering , was deceptive , as we felt the staff gave us a "full service " dining experience, bringing our food , condiments and beverage refills. Disappointed and hope this constructive criticism helps management touch up on some basic labeling pie and customer service skills and for Monday lunch cashier/bakers. Walked in at 1:15pm and the place was empty. We asked how many pieces of fish to expect on the 1/2 order vs. full order of fish & chips...young cashier stated they were out of full orders but we could get each get a 1/2 order which makes absolutely no sense. We then asked for a "cottage pie" she told they had one in the oven and she said it "could" be 20 - 30 minutes until it was ready...not let me check with my team about how many minutes are left on the dish that was currently in the oven she literally just mentioned. Our next question was about ordering a chicken curry pasty to which the replay was "we've been sold out of that for hours!" She stated this as if we were somehow inconveniencing her with our basic questions and should have been able to read her mind or magically know they were sold out and not asked a simple questions about availability and portion sizes. We settled on a curry chicken pie which we were both excited to try but to our surprise the pie we were delivered was steak & potato pie with curry powder sprinkled on top...smh...then a member of the kitchen staff dropped off our fish & chips without asking how our pie was and literally turned away to rush back to the kitchen before I could ask about the steak & potato pie delivery after we ordered the chicken curry pie. The fried fish & chips were both soggy and dripping with grease rather then crispy as a proper chip shop would have never served to guests especially when they are literally the only guests eating in the restaurant. We sat at the table disappointed and discussed how to let staff know about the issues but rather then checking on us the cashier was sweeping up around each and every empty table. The cherry on top of the experience was not only were we being cleaned around and ignored as if our business was not important but they don't have any explanation for guests on where to place dishes following the meal so I found the trash can for the soggy food we did not finish and left the grease soaked plate on the closest table. Probably the worst $35/40 lunch I've had in a long while. Please chat with kitchen about better labeling practices for pies & cashier about our experience so future guest don't have similar interactions. I am a local military member who had the good luck to have Pie Society's food truck on base recently. I ordered the steak & ale pie which comes with mashed potatoes and is topped with a brown gravy. The pie was a nice size and was stuffed with tender chunks of beef and sauce. The crust was nice and flakey which is not always the case with little pies! The mashed potatoes were for sure homemade and creamy (always the chance of getting instant ). My favorite I think was the gravy I could have had gravy soup and have been happy. I have a British friend who I sent a photo of the food to who said it looked legit and just needed chives. Extra points for authenticity. read more

What an amazing place! As someone that has the opportunity to travel all over I have to say this is on par with what I had while in the UK. The owner is obviously from there as you will have no doubt once you walk in! My wife and I had the fish and chips and we ordered a meat pie so we could try it with the kids. Wow! On both accounts! As an Aussie who's also lived in London I was super excited to check this place out when I learned about a British Pie shop being in Pooler. Long story short it's just okay. I appreciate the mini grocery store, most things can be bought in the international aisle at Publix cheaper but they do have some things that are harder to find. Biggest disappointment was the "millionaire shortbread" or should I say a 90% shortbread with a barely-there hardly-caramelized condensed milk layer and a badly melted chocolate topping. I noticed the food truck while driving along Diamond Causeway while heading to Skidaway Island State Park yesterday and had to stop in for a late lunch. It was parked along the entrance to the Rodney J. Hall Boat Ramp. The attendance was very nice, it wasn't too busy, but it does appear to have a constant, steady stream of customers throughout the day. The only pie available at the time was Key Lime Pie I didn't try it, but I did get the fish and chips which was delicious. The total wait time was 10 minutes and the attendance kindly updated me of that often. It does have more than traditional English flavor of the fish and chips and not a more Southern seasoned fried fish if that is what you are seeking. It was good, quick, and convenient. Great meat pies - and they ship!!! We first came across their sister location in Savannah, The Little Crown. On our way home from a long weekend in Savannah, we decided to stop at this location in Pooler to see what they have to offer. My husband is a HUGE fan of meat pies, so we had to get some to take home. This time, we tried the Steak and Ale, Beef and Blue Cheese, Sausage Apple, and the Philly Cheese Steak. After a quick trip to the oven, they were all great. The fruit pies and the shortbread look amazing, too. So do the fish and chips. They are next on the list. This place is the real deal. Love, love, love the fish and chips!! The downtown Savannah location does not serve the fish and chips so if you want fish and chips you'll need to go to the Pooler location. The fish was cooked perfectly nice and crispy and not greasy at all. Fries were amazing and I couldn't stop eating them. I prefer a little bit of malt vinegar on my fish along with that excellent tater sauce. I love that they put capers in the tater sauce it was so fresh and delicious. They sell a variety of fruit pies and meat pies of different sizes. I also bought a large chicken pot pie to eat for dinner later and I can't wait to try it. I have been craving chicken pot pie for some reason and I decided to hit the easy button and let pie Society do the cooking for me. I also treated myself to a small strawberry rhubarb pie which I can't wait to take a fork to it. The savory pies are really yummy but the desserts are just awful. We ordered a custard tart- it had a paper thin layer of "custard" it was so so so dry and overcooked and literally inedible. No flavor at all. Threw it away. The bread pudding was also literally inedible- it was so dense and dry. Threw that away too. I literally don't know how anyone could eat it and think it was good. The key lime pie has a really good crust but the filling was so sweet and had absolutely no lime flavor at all. It was creamy but overly sweet with no discernible flavor. Threw that away too after a few bites. We also had a Bakewell tart- it was just ok. Got a "meh" from everyone (it was also kinda dry). Best Pies in America! Her Ladyship and I recently spent a long weekend in Savannah, our first visit to that fair city. During our perambulations, I discovered this tiny little hole-in-the-wall downtown, and decided to check it out. The menu was straight out of Merry Old England; various permutations of Steak pies, pork pies, sausage rolls, and all sorts of other Old-Country goodies. We each had a pie -- she had Steak and Kidney, I had Steak and Ale. Both were excellent. My only criticism - and it is a minor one - is that the pastry was a little thick and heavy; I suspect that this is because of durability and portability. These pies were each large enough to feed two medium-sized appetites; half of one pie went home with us and we had it for breakfast the following day. The dessert selection was, as the English would say, "Not Bad". The English, after all, are famed for saying how good something is by stating how bad it isn't. For me, the high points included such Old World stalwarts as Victoria Sponge Cake, fruit pies, Bakewell tart, Bread Pudding and jam tarts, but they threw in some Pecan pie for those from the New World. It is worth saying that Pie Society has another location near the airport, and much larger and better appointed. Between the two locations, we ate there four times in three days. The second location serves an excellent Fish and Chips; perhaps the best I have had in the States in the 25+ years I have been here. Yes folks, they really are that good. read more

Phenomenal. I really don't know how I could give them any other rating than 5 stars. The family that owns PS is from the UK and my brother has been a regular customer for quite a bit now. This makes for a great recipe in my eyes since I really do miss almost everything about living in the UK and of course, I do trust my brother's taste in food. One thing to keep in mind is that translation of a recipe from one country to the next can be a bit different since you're talking about different sources (water, veggies, meats, etc) and it always surprises me when I hear or read digs on a particular place just because it's not exactly what one may remember from another place. Nothing may literally translate the 'authenticity' someone is looking for 100%. So I take it for what it is. And what it is - is great! On my first visit here, I tried the steak & mushroom as suggested. The crust was crispy and flaky while the steak was tender and juicy. And the mushrooms were a great way to round out the savory (yes ultra delicious) pie! It was also piping hot but gave me an opportunity to really sit down and enjoy every bite as it cooled down. I can imagine this particular one being eaten on a cold, winter day. Perfect! On my following visits, I ordered: chicken curry, apple pie, cottage pie, & a bakewell tart. Yeah, with all that food, I had two things going for me to keep the calories off: my parents' pool & the gym on Hunter Army Airfield. :P Anyhoo, the chicken curry definitely leans on Indian curry. Not spicy but the core of the curry flavor is deeply embedded within the filling (the cumin, turmeric - very well prepared). The pie is even topped with curry so you get that little bite when eating this little guy. The apple pie. Now this had to have been a favorite of mine because unlike the American counterpart served at many a US diner, it was dense; however, light at the same time. What I mean by that is instead of using a heavy karo syrup to bind the ingredients, I detected what I believe to be some sort of apple sauce in it. I thoroughly enjoyed their take on it! It wasn't overly sweet but sweet enough and then topped with a bit of sugar as well. I brought a large one home and I ALMOST brought it back intact but that lest leg of my trip was not so gravity friendly. So unfortunately, it came back in a blob. Did it stop me and my family from eating it though? Nope! I had it cold and warm and both ways were awesome. The bakewell was a special they had. The fondant was a bit too much for me though (way too sweet) and I found myself peeling it away to go for the cherry and the filling underneath. The cottage pie was a naughty little beef and gravy topped with mashed potato that was a lush even if I do say so myself! Now about the employees - they were so sweet. I had quite a few questions for them - especially on mailing options and taking some with me on the plane. And everyone came in to pitch ideas of which I was very grateful for. The folks here are friendly and I did hear them take their time with other customers too. The place is neat and well-taken care of - they even sell a lot of British goodies with the Royal Warrant tacked on the back of them as well. They even sold tees and coffee mugs (yes, I bought some for the fam - I'm a sucker like that). They also offer discounts for Gulfstream employees. That was a great tidbit to find out - they gave it to me since my dad works there. :) What else can I say? I hope that gives you a little insight into what to expect and I do hope you enjoy them.
