The nerve! The owner, Brenda and her daughter will not return calls, will lie about dates and forget to order items. They expect you to just take off time over and over again but will never apologize or take responsibility. They actually blamed their accountant, Wendy, for charging my bill without authorization. Don't blame her when you know it was you. The only time this company moved fast was when they charged my card. Their techs seem like nice guys but you can tell some of them have much less experience than others. They had to come out at least 6 times to complete this job. While dealing with Charleston Glass, I found Palmetto Glass in WA. NIGHT AND DAY! They are doing the rest of my restoration and specialty glass. I have had nothing but a good experience with them. I called Dustin Pait for information and a quote on installing hurricane window coverings for us,…read morebecause we've known him for most of his life, and he's a good friend of my son. I'm normally leery of doing business with a friend of the family, in case there's a problem, and I have to complain. I wasn't going to write a review of Brown's Hardwood Floors, because he did redo them after the…read morefirst fiasco, but my satisfaction has decreased with after-the-fact issues. Ty Brown was replacing the laundry room floor and refinishing the living room/ dining room. The adjacent kitchen / den area had been refinished about 4 years previously. The biggest issue I have with his work is with the color-matching. He asked if I wanted water-based stain. I said something to the effect that I thought they had used water-based stain on the previously refinished areas, but literally said, "I just want it to match." I did say that I knew it might not be exact, because I had seen that the color changes slightly over time (I was referring to the fact that the color under my rugs was slightly DARKER than the color that was exposed to light). I was out of town while they redid the floors. A friend came by to take care of my cats. And despite the fact that I told him TWICE and reiterated in email that two cats would be in one room and the other cat would be in another room--and I put actual SIGNS on the doors saying "CATS (and the cats' names)--he left the exterior door to one area with cats open and both indoor cats got out. My friend and Mr. Brown's worker (she was awesome) were able to retrieve the cats (after I saw the outside door open on my security camera and alerted my friend to the issue). To give him credit, Mr. Brown took off the charge for replacing the sub flooring in one small area (6 SF) to compensate, so that in itself wasn't too bad. It worked out okay and Mr. Brown made it right. But I got back from my trip and saw that he hadn't stained the new floors at all!!! What?!? When we did the walk-through the next day I told him I couldn't live with them like this, and he grumblingly agreed to redo, after telling me that he thought I had understood that the color would turn amber over time and match(!!!). I had to hurriedly find movers to move all my furniture AGAIN, and he and his worker (who was excellent BTW) came back on Sunday and redid the floors. He was much more positive and taking complete responsibility then (no grumbling), and he did reimburse me for the additional furniture moving (because I had paid extra for his team to move the first time). He brought two stains and we both agreed one looked good. He and his worker spent all Sunday lightly sanding and re-doing the floors. The colors looked good initially--maybe when wet?--but seem to have faded--see pics below. They are much better than the "no-stain" floors, but still not what I would expect for a match from a hardwood floor expert. To to top it off, when the second movers went to move my corner china cabinet, they found that both glass shelves were broken. Apparently they hadn't removed them before moving. To be fair, I didn't tell Ty about the broken shelves, because I was so effing tired of dealing with him. I think he would have reimbursed the money for the glass shelves ($400+). The hiccups with the furniture moving etc. I could deal with. Letting the cats get out I can deal with. What I have trouble with are two things. First: the color once dried is nowhere near a good match. Did they skip additional coats? Did it lighten that much when drying? Second, and most importantly, he told me with the initial lack of stain that the color would "amber up" with time. Apparently OIL-based stains will amber over time, but WATER-based stains will fade in the light (as I had observed). WTF. I can only conclude that he tried to take a short cut, thinking I would not question it. This is not okay.

We recently had an apartment fire and had a restoration company come in and take all the furniture…read morethat was undamaged by the fire to be cleaned. I was skeptical about the couch not smelling like smoke as it was a large wrap around sofa made of microfiber. The couch was only a few months old so I was disappointed to know that I likely wouldn't get it back in acceptable condition. Fortunately, I was wrong and the couch came back good as new. The damage actually occurred on the way back while the restoration company was delivering the couch to our new place. We noticed almost immediately that there was a small tear on the side underneath the arm. We contacted the company and they apologized. They said they would pay for the repair and asked us to find a local company to fix it. It seems there are a bunch of places that do upholstery repair but it's a broad field as some specialize in furniture, boats, or vehicles. I found Nesbitt and called him for a quote. I explained that I was looking to replace a panel on the side of a couch and that I would have the exact cut fabric from the manufacturer (ordered separately). I think he quoted me $150 give or take. That seemed very fair so I had the restoration company pick up the couch and fabric to bring over. He had the job done in a week or so and it was delivered back good as new. Turns out it was only $125 which was even better than I was originally quoted. The couch looks brand new again!

Two years ago, I contacted Alfred Nesbitt to see if he was interested and available to re-upholster…read moretwo living room wing chairs that I fell in love with at Next to New, a consignment shop, in Mount Pleasant. (I randomly selected his name among a list of referrals provided by the front desk at N2N.) Well, it wasn't exactly that simple ... I actually needed him to pick up the chairs at the store the next day ... and hold them at his shop until I found and ordered the perfect fabric. He replied, "No problem" and assured me that my chairs would be safe in his shop until I was ready to move forward. (I did advance a reasonable deposit.) Well, it took me more than three months to find suitable fabric and for the custom order to arrive. As I was still working, Mr. Nesbitt graciously picked up the roll of fabric at my home, turned the job around in a matter of days and delivered the chairs and unused fabric back to my home. Hey, I'm a stickler for detail ... so when I say both chairs look great ... you can rest assured, they did ... and the price was fair. Flash forward two + years ... the fabric on the top of the covered bench in front in our bed needed some 'refreshing' so, I put the bench and unused fabric from the chairs in my car and headed to Nesbitt Upholstery. It was a bit tricky to find as there's no signage on Highway 17 North, but, Mr. Nesbitt's directions were simple, "Turn onto the driveway between the yellow house and Gerald's Tires ... if you pass Gerald's, you've gone too far." Soon after I made that right turn I saw the sign for Nesbitt Upholstery, knew that I was at the right place. Alfred met me outside his shop (the garage), he unloaded the bench and fabric and I went on my way. That was Friday, July 3. I received a call this morning (July 6) that my bench was ready and picked it up right after lunch. It looked brand new! I have a bit more fabric and considering some pillows. Who am I gonna call? Alfred Nesbitt, of course!
