Wow! I can not believe how low the rating is and bad reviews, for a city that is all I've known…read moreall my life. I grew up here, my kids grew up here, seen lots of changes since 1975 (yup!). I can understand the complaint about the incompetence of city employees; I've had mine with the Police Department & also with Whittier High School & WHUSD (side note w/both school & school district, I'm talking a few certain employees, the rest of employees were fine, it takes a few bad apples, as they say), that is much needed area of improvement, but I don't take it out on the entire city. And the city is most certainly not desolate! Try going to San Bernardino and you will change your tune. Yes, there has been ongoing rise of crime, tagging/graffiti, lots of outsiders from all other cities moving here- both good & unfortunately bad (West & So. Whittier and unfortunately pockets of Uptown as well) moving into the area, apparently it's appealing to them as well. There are times I go to Uptown for dinner, drinks or to chill, it seems like you have to be there in the day time till early evening before the mob of socialites & attitudes come out at night and saturate it. But again, it's not that bad, just know when to go, know where to go and know when to leave, if your the younger generation, then I guess you guys know how to handle it, focus is elsewhere anyways right? But what does the city have to do with it? If we can all look up above it and take it for what it is and make the best out of it, then it's all good. I probably won't buy a home out here, unless I won the Lottery and was in a position to pick and choose (I choose Whittier Hills, Friendly Hills & the best of East Whittier only), but mostly likely looking to get as far away from the city and live on an open field of homes with a view of the mountains in the quiet sleepy town of Yucaipa, what some will call boring, I call it peaceful. But when I get homesick, I know I can come back to good old Whittier. The point is, if your new to the area, have an open mind and give Whittier a chance.

If your a foodie your gonna love this city because we have it all and who makes the best of a certain type of food is up for debate! The city is pretty safe compared to neighboring cities and yes Whittier has pockets were gangs and low life's thrive but Whittier PD is pretty aggressive keeping the city safe. As for the average citizen we have old folks from the old Nixon days and the new generation of people trying to live in a modest home and give their kids a good life! If I could suggest any change i'd say the city needs to do something about the homeless in uptown and the gang activity in the surrounding area! Also limit the number of apartment complexes and section 8 because we already have a large share of renters! This city has a lot to offer on the weekends if you check the city website. It's far from a boring sleepy town, It's a thriving town with wonderful people living in it!

There is also a sculpture garden at the Civic Center as well as plenty of free parking. City Hall is where you go for such things as obtaining a business license, getting permits for building or remodeling, paying your water bill or getting information on recreation services. It's also here that you will find the City Council Chambers where meetings are held. There is a dolphin fountain in front of City Hall that children play in on hotter days. The Sheriff Station also includes the Community Safety office where you can obtain special permits for overnight parking in residential areas. The Library is amazing with themed sections and an entryway that includes a huge aquarium. With the nice grounds, a variety of sculptures and fountains it's a pleasing place just to walk around.

City of West Covina has done a wonderful job w/ this years "Summer Concert Series"…read more 2023. Excellent variety of music & those WC Seniors are the cutest ever! Big group of dancers & plenty of room to boogie the night away. Several areas for parking & shaded areas to sit (bring your own chairs) definitely arrive early to claim a good spot. We arrive @ 6pm take snacks & drinks. Music starts @ 7pm & ends @ 9pm Several vendors such as food, crafts, clothing, plants/succulents & kids play area w/ bounce house, Corn hole, games/activities. Nice touch w/ having the COVE serving drinks on 2nd level overlooking civic center & can still enjoy music while sipping on a cocktail / beer. Only thing is I wish they would do "Pledge of Allegiance or Sing National Anthem @ beginning of event & being the Civic Center has a nice Veterans memorial. It would be very Patriotic & Thank You to ALL who served & continue serving. Keep up the good job WC!!

If you can avoid coming to the Civic Center than please do. There's nothing worse than wasting all…read moreday waiting at the Civic Center than maybe waiting at the DMV. I came here a couple times in the past to deal with traffic tickets, but the most recent time I came with my mom who just wanted to change her address and contest her ticket through trial by declaration. The whole process took 3.5 hours! It was ridiculous and poorly managed. People with all sorts of issues where in line for hours waiting. There's only one line that leads you into a room of 6 windows or so, where you get to speak to an actual person to help you sort out your traffic citation issue. Unless you want to deal with their pointless automated system over the phone, this is the only way for you to manage your traffic ticket in person. It wasn't until an hour before closing that a lady came by the line to speed things up for everyone. I seriously think that something needs to change with their system that clearly doesn't work, unless the whole point is to have people get tired out from waiting and just pay for whatever traffic citation they were written up for. Since it seems more reasonable for someone to pay the citation fine than to take a whole day off work waiting aimlessly in a never-ending line.

It's close to the fwy, and if you gps it on Google maps, it leads you straight to the parking lot. There was plenty of parking on a Sunday afternoon. It was a little tricky to know which way to walk after we parked. There should be signs pointing to the direction of the beach. It's about half a mile, or about 10 minutes from the Santa Monica Pier. But the best part of this parking lot is definitely the price. $5 maximum for weekends. Awesome price. We only stayed for 2 hours so we only needed to pay $3, WOW. So overall, this is definitely my go-to place for parking when visiting SM in the future.

They had you pay upfront ($10 yikes!) and handed you a ticket... but for some reason, NO ONE COULD LEAVE! We were literally stuck in our cars for more than 30 minutes (and others were probably stuck longer) to the point where folks were calling Santa Monica PD and eventually they just let everyone out. I think the problem had to do with the fact that we were paying cash up front (instead of paying at the machine before we left) and it did something to the tickets... but oh wow, horrrrrrible parking experience. The lot itself is fine--well lit, not hard to find, elevators work well... but yeesh, beware if parking here for a special event where they make you pay upfront!
