Adj: Fresh Tasting and Flavorfully Terrific with some Surprising Complements
Attended another work-related conference, and I believe Pickles and Olives was the caterer again and the lunches were much better this time. There was a choice of turkey on a nuts and grain bread or a roast beef sandwich on a roll, amongst the non-vegetarian/vegan choices.
The turkey sandwich was very tasty, with a good amount of meat and the bread was soft and yet not mushy even though it wasn't overly thick. It also had avocado and romaine lettuce in it and the texture combo was really good, that was my favorite sandwich. The box lunch also came with an Asian Chicken Salad with cabbage and peanuts and generous amounts of shredded chicken and a really delicious sauce that might've been house-made (hopefully, those are better than Sysco-made).
The Roast beef sandwich on a roll had a generous amounts of roast beef plus the use of arugula was a good complement for those of us who like it, the roll had great crunch on the outside and wasn't overly bready, so it was really good for a roast beef sandwich and the cheese was shredded parmesan of some kind if I tasted it correctly, which was different but good as it made for a stronger cheese flavor to juxtapose the roast beef, it also had mayo in it I believe. I tried half of each split with a colleague.
The lunch also came with a cookie who was very indulgent as it was gigantic, about the size of the opening of a standard soup bowl (ala Corelle by Corning bowls), I only dared to eat a quarter of it at one sitting. It was really good, and kept nicely for a late afternoon snack coffee break since there was no way to eat a cookie that size after a full lunch.
Overall, Pickles and Olives did a great job w/this catered lunch and I imagine were their wedding reception and other special events customers to write reviews, they would give them high ratings too. read more
