This is my first time playing pickle ball. I had to find out what all the hype was. I love tennis and ping-pong and I must say, this came in third on my activity list. While it's nice to play in a smaller court so you're not running more of a distance to hit the ball, the actual ball is very light and has very little bounce to it so you've really gotta get under it to hit it after the first bounce unless you're just going to volley it! Overall, it was enjoyable. The facilities were lovely. Nice courts and covered interior so you're not in the blazing sun. They give you whatever weight racket you are comfortable with and they have a nice little selection of canned cold cocktails, and other non-alcoholic drinks. $20 to book a court for the hour and the process to book a court online was seamless. The only issue I had where we were trying to change our court time to a day earlier and we're not able to reach anyone and when we called their voicemail it was always full. Wound up emailing them and got a response so it worked out. $20 for the hour is very reasonable. Dallas was very friendly and helpful during our visit.

This was our first time playing pickle ball and we really enjoyed it! Wanted to see what it's all about cause we both like tennis and ping-pong and this was a really interesting combination of the two. It was nice to be able to do it inside (cooler) as it is summertime and we enjoyed the location on 3rd Street next to a bunch of yummy restaurants. The guy at the desk was very helpful and accommodating and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Came for a specialty event and the service was great. Jane (the facility manager) was kind and helpful. A very cute space to go play pickleball or even host your own private event. Also it's located on the same strip as a lot of great restaurants and places to go if you want to park locally and make a day of it.

Fun indoor pickleball spot. Only 3 courts. Would be 5 stars but the court surface isn't up to par. It's not the same quality surface as a hard tennis/pickleball court you would find indoors so the traction isn't there. I found myself slipping and sliding a bit when I was running hard for a ball. Overall it was fun.

We celebrated my husbands birthday here, it was really nice. Everything is clean and there is plenty of space. Staff is cool too. There's plenty of restaurants around the area too as it's in the middle-ish of promenade.

PicklePop staff were very responsive, and a lot of fun.

Recently a guy from the office coordinated a company outing to PicklePop in Santa Monica. While everyone was a bit nervous to see if he could come up with a good event, it turned out GREAT! The facility was clean and comfortable, with being indoors protecting us from weather. The staff was fun and just the right amount of interactive. You could tell the staff appreciated the group, and went out of their way to make it a special time for everyone - from beginners to well-experienced players. Definitely recommend PicklePop in Santa Monica to anyone looking for a great experience!

Timing really matters here. It is best to come during off hours if you want any chance of getting a lounge chair to set your belongings down or take a break. When it is busy, seating is very limited and can get crowded quickly. The pool itself is not ideal for young children or anyone expecting a gradual entry. There is no graded or zero-depth entrance. Instead, you enter via a ladder directly into about four feet of water, with a rope separating this area from the deeper section. This setup may be fine for confident swimmers, but it felt less family-friendly than anticipated. Conversely, if you are looking to swim laps, this is not a lap pool. It is purely recreational. The changing and bathroom area is very open, and the showers offer no privacy. The shower water was also quite cold, which was not especially comfortable, particularly for kids. If you are expecting enclosed changing rooms or warm showers, this may be disappointing. Parking is public street parking only, paid at meters, which adds another layer of planning and cost. Overall, while the beach house is in a beautiful spot and can be enjoyable under the right circumstances, the lack of amenities, limited seating, and less-than-ideal pool and changing facilities make it hard to fully relax or recommend, especially for families with young children.

There are games galore to play in the backyard like ping pong. Of course, in the meantime, the Hollister brand is being pimped big time, along with Abercrombie & Fitch--a Hollister corporate partner. But being close enough to the beautiful Santa Monica beach to hear the ocean cannot hurt the "Cali branding" and seems to help equate Hollister with cool , fashionable kids and happy memories of fun in the summertime. I went online to see if there were any free tickets left for a teen wanting to visit the Beach House for a show and darn it--they were all sold out and wait listing. Hollister hopefuls must be at least 14 years old and reside in the greater Los Angeles, CA. area to apply. Parental consent is required for anyone under 18 to attend performances. Photograph submissions with applications of you dressing in your best 'So Cal style' will decide whether you are emailed an eticket or not. Though the Hollister House is clearly a shill for Hollister clothing, I can't help but at least give it 4 YELP STARS for making a fun place for tweens & teens to enjoy the action.

Alas, I fear my memory will fade before I have time to memorialize a perfect tribute. From Mikey and Willem to Mike, Andrew, Jason and Zach at the door, to Carol, Rosanna, Myles, Anthony, Beatrice at the front desk, Dorshab, Jimmy, Kevin, Liz G., Mary and Jesse in dining, Maria and Ana in housekeeping, Scott, Gabriel, Julie, Cyndi - quite sincerely every single Shutters employee who crossed my path during a 6 month residency made my life better for having known them. I am eternally grateful for the care and concern extended by this hotel to our community as it offered haven to Palisades refugees - along with our dogs, cats, birds, snakes, fish - piled into their beautiful lobby that had finished a renovation a couple weeks prior. The hotel group was generous, and the employees from every department were of the highest caliber. Whoever did the lion share of the hiring for the staff present between January-June 2025 deserves an award. In 6 months time, I did not directly or indirectly encounter a single issue with staff. Rooms were perfectly appointed with luxurious bathtubs and great views. Of the 5 rooms I stayed in, Room 734 was my all around favorite. If that's not in the budget, Room 308 is a runner up. For those looking for a weekend away, I recommend you ask for a room on the 7th, then 6th, then 5th, then 4th floor...you get my point. Rooms from -30-38 with direct ocean views are also the quietest as they're nestled in the center of the hotel. Noise can be an issue on the 3rd floor, at least when staying for months. probably won't bother anyone over a weekend. During a time of great chaos and unprecedented stress, managing the remediation of seniors with dementia, assisting 6 family members who lost homes, Shutters provided me a safe haven. For the rest of my life, I shall be grateful for the kindness of ownership, management, and boots on the ground. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind compassion. I'm including a sketch gifted by the magnificent Carol (@caroldraws___ on IG) of the Shutters house poms. My girls miss their hotel bestie, Cyndi, every day. It's too hard for me to go back as I know I'll want to stay. I miss them all very much.

I wandered into the Marion Davies Guest House soon after it opened that Sunday, and docent Susan McCarthy gave me and another couple a wonderful tour. It was fascinating to learn this was only one of the guest quarters on this oceanfront property, along with the lavish 110-room mansion the actress shared with William Randolph Hearst. Sadly, everything else except one pool was bulldozed for a parking lot! Though Davies had numerous affairs, she remained Hearst's mistress until he died.
