I've never played pickleball…read more And for the last two years, friends and fam have been trying to convince me to try it out, but the timing was never really right. Then one day! They finally convinced me to join their league and just go. My very first practice was here - which is conveniently close to home. I was immediately impressed when I walked in. I checked in (I registered prior to coming in - $20 for the day), did a quick browse through their merch and was pleasantly surprised at how many courts they have. I gotta say, they're popular: all courts were occupied. And it's pretty well maintained - no clutter, the whole court look like they were freshly painted, even the nets looked new. They also have a nice lounge area and they provide free water - just bring your own tumbler. I was lucky enough to get free coaching from cousin-in-law who showed me the basics: rules, scoring, etc., and was playing 2 vs 2 in no time. And I'll admit I really enjoyed it! A couple more practice runs and I might just commit! Most of them have tried many other facilities but they said this one is the best one they've played at yet. I've seen a couple of those places and I have to agree. Their league has a tourney soon - I'm signed up, apparently - and it'll be held here, so I'll be coming back sooner than later. Good first run! Looking forward to coming back.

Once inside you will be greeted by 11 net-fenced courts that have plenty of space for you to run down overhead smashes and hunt ATP (around the post) opportunities. 17 outdoor courts are coming Summer 2026!! For non-members the drop-in fee is $25/day, but there are specials when the drop-in fee is $10/day. There are tiers to membership, but all members have the opportunity to reserve courts. Throughout the day there is plenty of programming from private lessons to ladders to round robins to tournaments. Open play can be hit or miss here, but definitely worth coming on Friday Night Lights where there is a live DJ, food, and adult drinks! Hands down, the best feature about this place is the amazing water refill stations. The water is straight from the mountains!

They have seven courts and offer open play. First thing that caught my attention was how fast and lack of bounce the balls were traveling down the court. The court concrete is polished smooth and using a Selkirk type of ball with a power paddle, those balls are traveling fast! Took a bunch of plays to get use to the speed and bounce of the ball. The open play isn't divided to play levels so you can be in a high level or low level game randomly, can be intimidating for newbies. This place is definitely a good pay play place to try. The owner Leslie was very nice and helpful to get me started with signing the wavier and into playing.

The facility has many courts that are divided with plenty of space between each sectioned court. Most courts don't have this perk and are crammed close together. Also, their operating hours are so convenient and we can always get a court on a whim. The added convenience of booking courts online and paying thru Venmo is a big plus! Prices are really competitive and much cheaper than that new place in Carson! Please come check this place out! You will not want to go anywhere else! Come help support this family-owned & operated business! Leslie and her boys are so sweet and accommodating.

Manhattan Beach Middle School pickleball courts - where have you been all my life?! Well,…read moreactually, just for the past year because I only moved to Lawndale last summer. My friend and I have been searching for permanent and free courts without any luck. We always drive down to Long Beach to play because we don't have our own pickleball net. As I was recently running on Manhattan Beach, I thought I would give it another Google search. Once I saw this search result, I immediately sent my friend a message and told her I'd check it out! There are 6 pickleball courts here, open from 08:00 to dusk on weekends and 16:00 - dusk on weekdays due to school hours. They are permanent and were apparently built before or during the pandemic. Pickleball has even become an option for the middle schoolers! One court is reserved for beginners, unless there are none during your play time, and one court has been made the Challenge Court. At the Challenge Court, you can play up to two consecutive games if you win. Otherwise, all other courts are 4 on, 4 off. It's a fun system, as you slide north when one group finishes to make room on the south end for the next group of players. The courts are nicely maintained, and the people have been friendly. There is a paddle rack with a system that's easy to follow. Based on my experience, the weekends are jam-packed with serious pickleballers. We came on a Saturday morning at 09:00 and only got to play two games in an hour due to the number of players waiting to play. Stiff competition is available on the weekends! During the weekdays, you'll find more average and recreational players. There is plenty of street parking, and you can use the school parking lot on weekends and in the summer when school isn't in session. Additionally, the hours extend from 08:00 to dusk every day during the summer when kids are on vacation. Fair warning, though, the courts face east and west, so you'll have the sun in your face and affecting your vision in the mornings and evenings, depending on which side of the court you're on. We've definitely lost sight of the ball more than a few times when the sunbeams hit us just right.

Great courts, great energy and lots of smashes and fun! I first discovered South Bay Tennis Center…read morewhen I signed up for a pickleball class. This spot is a family owned business, and their love for the sport really shows in every details. The courts are clean and their equipment is top notch. If you're a beginner, they really take the time to show the basics so you feel comfortable. In no time you're rallying, smashing, and be an officially a big "dill." :) Aside from classes, they also have various fun events throughout the year. Some past events have included the Santa Slam Round Robin (complete with fun holiday gear and holiday cheer) and the Halloween SPOOKtacular (hmm perhaps for me since sometimes my pickleball playing can be scary! LOL) Overall, the South Bay Tennis Center is great place for a workout and dill-ightful times!

In fact, it has quite the homey atmosphere, while keeping a well-maintained one as well. Grass for soccer is well mowed and edged, courts are well lined with functional nets. It's not new and shiny but it is maintained with care. The after school tennis class instruction is led by mostly high school tennis team players, along with Liz, who seems to be the adult in charge. Obviously, Courtney is around but I don't expect her to be leading group classes. Anyway, care is taken to improve the kids' strokes and footwork, as much as possible, to the extent the kids are willing to listen and correct. Both my kids are enjoying their classes, with a little treat after. I love their little tennis shop and the tables that make it easy for people to congregate and make it feel like a cafe. Bathrooms, lockers, water fountains, and most importantly, the ice machine are all functional and clean. Also love the 10-pack of classes they have. Usually no deals to be found for tennis.

When I first started playing pickleball here, 4 years ago it was a good experience but…read moreunfortunately over time it was not so good. it was suppose to be a open format, where you put your paddles in line and the next 4 people are up. But as time went on , the organizer, Mike , would allow people to put their paddles together and it got to be where the guys ,mostly, were pulling their paddles and other people's paddles out of order so they could play together. I watched it happen all the time and when I said something, I was bullied and they had the nerve to complain to Mike about me. So one day, I put my paddle in an open spot near the front and Mike took it out and put it in the back. Then he waited for a guy who was playing, to get done and let him go rin MY open spot, and he went RIGHT back out and played with his 3 "buddies" !! So people should know they so NOT playing real open pickleball rules there., and ....Mike charges $7.09 to play on these city courts. So I just want people to be aware of this. I recommend Manhattan beach heights, mb intermediate school, Ernie Howkett park and Walteria courts as good places to play if you like fair open piickleball ball rules , and nice people who aren't "male bullies" who just want to bang the ball at you.
