Manhattan Beach Middle School pickleball courts - where have you been all my life?! Well,…read moreactually, just for the past year because I only moved to Lawndale last summer. My friend and I have been searching for permanent and free courts without any luck. We always drive down to Long Beach to play because we don't have our own pickleball net. As I was recently running on Manhattan Beach, I thought I would give it another Google search. Once I saw this search result, I immediately sent my friend a message and told her I'd check it out! There are 6 pickleball courts here, open from 08:00 to dusk on weekends and 16:00 - dusk on weekdays due to school hours. They are permanent and were apparently built before or during the pandemic. Pickleball has even become an option for the middle schoolers! One court is reserved for beginners, unless there are none during your play time, and one court has been made the Challenge Court. At the Challenge Court, you can play up to two consecutive games if you win. Otherwise, all other courts are 4 on, 4 off. It's a fun system, as you slide north when one group finishes to make room on the south end for the next group of players. The courts are nicely maintained, and the people have been friendly. There is a paddle rack with a system that's easy to follow. Based on my experience, the weekends are jam-packed with serious pickleballers. We came on a Saturday morning at 09:00 and only got to play two games in an hour due to the number of players waiting to play. Stiff competition is available on the weekends! During the weekdays, you'll find more average and recreational players. There is plenty of street parking, and you can use the school parking lot on weekends and in the summer when school isn't in session. Additionally, the hours extend from 08:00 to dusk every day during the summer when kids are on vacation. Fair warning, though, the courts face east and west, so you'll have the sun in your face and affecting your vision in the mornings and evenings, depending on which side of the court you're on. We've definitely lost sight of the ball more than a few times when the sunbeams hit us just right.

We are honored to get to leave a review for Krishna & Paulo at Play BT!…read moreKrishna and Paulo are great people and terrific coaches! They both are Pro players and are passionate in the way they share this fun sport. Our whole family, which includes myself(49 year old female) my husband, 18 year old daughter, and 15 year old son with autism has taken part in either lessons, league nights, free play, or tournaments put on by PlayBT. Lessons are a great workout and great repetition to get used to proper form & technique.Lots of continual movement and attention to detail and encouragement. They play great music and work with the flow of the group to accommodate all skill levels. You get a LOT out of one session! League nights are so fun! Round robin style so you get to play with lots of different players and gets lots of game situational practice. They keep courts going so there is almost no waiting.Great music pumping to keep you fired up.They keep track of who wins each set and who has won the most overall each week and total. Really nice people and often go to dinner together afterward if you're up to it.You don't have to show up every Wed. Or Fri. Night, just whenever you can/want to.Great program! Tournaments are well thought out and they provide great snacks and impressive prizes!Lots of games...you can sign up with a partner in higher level tourney, or you can play without a set partner in Beginner Division & play Round Robin style.Good times for all and fun to watch the rallies! They coach youth and special needs kiddos too. They coach work groups, Birthday groups, etc.and are very flexible and open to ideas. They are just great. We hadn't played Beach Tennis before when we started with them but now we are all hooked and looking forward to playing for a long time. They are growing the sport, and we highly recommend you get out there with them...it's fun for all ages!

This granted us an hour to hit the gym at this location - both close to the Hilton where we parked and the airport. He gave me a quick tour of this massive facility and at 6:30am, was already busy with moving, grunting, sweating bodies of all shapes and sizes. While I ran indoors on a treadmill, Zach opted for the pre-sunrise, cold weather outdoor run. We met up again at the free weight station. There was a lot of room and time for me to swing the 30lb kettlebell, do my pull-ups and dead-hangs without waiting and plenty of yoga mats to use for stretching and core exercises. If we had more time, the sauna would've been nice too, but I had some difficulties with the locker and had to wait for a few minutes for a front desk attendant to assist me.

The showers could use a bit more…read moreprivacy, a "blanket drape" as a door and a "plastic divider scene in restroom stalls" ain't enough to be considered "LUXURY?!" There's not enough quotations in the world to describe how almost oddly shaped this place is as well, like a labyrinth, resembling that of the painting "Relativity" from M C Escher's work.... Hmmm. I don't like to have to be a maze runner to go to each location aesthetically but it's OK in my opinion, probably due to the lack of space given so I'll give it an ok feeling. This is the only one I know in south bay that has BOXING gym which is cool, but its in the dungeon underneath the gym, so enjoy it alone I guess? no ones ever in there but I bought some gloves so I'll punch a few. The only two PROS to this place compared to El Segundo is the outdoor gym is nice if you like a bit of fresh air instead of the luxury indoor interior. Second Jacuzzi is Gender Fluid, so ANYONE MAN WOMAN ALIEN ENTITY, may join in... And I've see one or two people I'd like to say Hi too if you know what I mean.. Hehehee.. And I mean probably like one or two people on any given day you would consider approachable that aren't retired folks, or teenagers, (if you are a single young adult like me :) Hey to each there own but this place is more like a converted 24 hour fitness with a few more unique things (boxing, outdoor jacuzzi) but also lacking in a few areas (less classes, small sauna/steam room, packed showers with little privacy and terrible handicap one)

I considered rejoining at the Executive LA membership level and visited the Redondo Beach location a couple of times. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I decided against it. BEACH + TENNIS/ BEACH TENNIS = my 3 loves…read more I am a sports racket lover. I play tennis, pickleball, considering taktika padel, and been getting into Beach Tennis. When I first played Beach Tennis I used someone's extra racket and it happened to be Sexy Beach. I asked the others in our BT group what is the preferred and a few brands were listed off. I settled for Sexy Beach because it was the first brand I played with and want to stick with. I bought (2) Sexy Beach rackets that had different ratings on Control, Defense, and Power that way I can toggle back and forth and use strategy against the opponent. The two I went with that I feel fit my play style... BLUE SIRF 2 - I used this recently and inlove with it. I am adjusting to it and really like this one when I serve. BLUE SIRF BEACH TENNIS PADDLE - I have used this style previously when using someone's extra paddle. Does the job! BEACH TENNIS (LIMITED EDITION) BALLS - I usually see yellow and orange balls on the sand. But when I saw the green ones I had to have them. The description said limited edition but I honestly don't know what that entails.

If you decide you want to play, it's 10 bucks a paddle for 24 hours. Just double check before you rent to see if the courts are taken, occasionally there's tournaments going on that take up many of the courts in the morning, though they always clear out by the afternoon. The staff is really cool, the first time we went in there just to try it out and turns out the guy working was an actual pro beach tennis player who was about to go on tour. Looking forward to asking him how he did when he comes back. Paddle tennis is definitely something everyone should try out at least once.
