Went to LKQ for the first time to find parts for a Honda Civic. There is a entry fee of $2 to get in along with a Tool box search. This is understandable for prohibited item like torches. The yard was very organized and the Isles were free of debris that could cause tripping. Only complaint is the porta-pots were very nasty. I did not want too use them just because I was afraid to slip an fall inside it. During entry my wife asked the young lady that checked us in about the restroom and she said come in the building it you need to use it. I assumed that meant public restroom inside. I went inside the building immediately got yelled at by a man sitting at the desk. He yelleed you can't be in here. I said though there was restroom in here. He just said no and for me to leave. I was in a rush to sell my car, so this was the first place I was referred and went with it. I don't think I would want to go back. Never been to a junkyard so I'm not sure if this is junkyard culture but everyone was rude. My lyft driver was nice enough to walk up with me to make sure everything went okay and even he thought the staff was rude. There was in particular one guy who was eating a sandwich when I walked up on Sunday and a girl with her hair in a ponytail, I'm sure she wears it like that everyday because she had it like that when I came back. When I went back I did meet a pleasant person, Alec, he was very professional and personable. Before arriving to the facility I ,also, talked to a woman named Jackie (hope I spelled her name right) who was also super nice and personable. Karen at the counter behind plexiglass and wesring a mask informed me I needed a mask to get it . But I only needed it to walk maybe 15 feet . Seemed ridiculous but I expect this in a liberal asshat ran county . Karen was nice eniugh but the silly 15 fert to wear a mask just got under my skin . I wouldn't suggest this place to my worst enemy. We had this place come and pick up our junk car... they gave us a VERY LARGE window of 1p-3p. They said the towing company will call before they come and if we don't answer they will skip us. I even called at 9am, as soon as they opened, to tell them we were still interested and we will try our best to pick up the phone. I also told them that we lost the key (it was out for like a year lol) but there was something in the locked car that we wanted to get. They said no problem, just tell the tower when he gets there and he can unlock it. We waited by our phones all day throughout meetings and work. I even had to excuse myself from a client to answer the call. When I spoke to them, I told them again that I needed something out of the car...again, no problem, just tell the tower when he gets there. Idk how strict they are on not answering their call anytime between 9am-1pm but I thought it was kinda bogus. Regardless, we answered and they confirmed our large 1-3 window. My husband took off work to be there between 1-3. They also told us that we could only pick up our check until 4:30pm.. 1:00- nothing 1:30- nothing 2:00- nothing 2:30- nothing 3:00- nothing 3:10- nothing... my husband calls them. They tell him that it's already been picked up. My husbands like, "no it hasn't, it's in my driveway.." they tell him that sometimes to the tow-drivers lie and say they picked up the vehicle when they haven't so they can hit their numbers....lol okay, great integrity. My husband asks for the third time if we can get my stuff out of the locked car. They said it's not a problem and to tell the tower when he gets there.. 3:30...nothing 3:40 [40 minutes AFTER a 3 hour window] I see the tow truck from my office window pull into our drive way. My husband is doing dishes downstairs, I yell for him. He washes his hands to meet the tower outside.. I promised you IN TWO MINUTES, these guys picked up our car and left our driveway- TWO MINUTES. I was pissed and honestly confused. We didn't need to sign anything? We didn't need to prove it was us who called? We didn't need to prove it was our car? No one allowed me to get my stuff out, even though they told me THREE TIMES they would? Honestly, it seems like with their system you can just call and have them tow any car you want. Pissed at an ex? Have them tow the car...neighbor in your spot? Have them tow the car.. There's no checks or balances with this horrid company. 3:45 I call the 844 number AGAIN. 3:53 someone finally answers. I tell them I'm a little frustrated that they didn't allow me to get my things out of the car and need for them to insure me that when we go get our check they will allow me to get my things out of the car. The lady on the other line was very rude. I told her that the place was THIRTY MINUTES away She said "if you can't get it today, tomorrow is another day" ....excuse me?!?! I had personal and sentimental items in that car (which I was fine with being in my garage--but not fine with being at some Steven Avery salvage yard, 30mins away, who we already know have questionable morals). My husband jumps in the car and RACES to get there before they closed at 4:30. He sped so I could get my personal belongings. We would not have had to speed if they would have been there on time. He got there and goes inside around 4:22. The guy at the front desk says to him, "oh, our machines been down for the past hour, you'll have to come tomorrow.." WHHHHAAAATTTT?!?! Why didn't anyone tell us this?!?!!! We were just on the phone with them 20 minutes ago?!!!?! It's very very clear that these people have very poor communication. My husband asks if he can get my stuff out of the car.....the guy says "oh I don't have anything for you to get it out with" WHAAAAATTTTTT?!?! Didn't they tell us THREE times that they could?!!?! What a waste of an hour and gas? The next day my husband calls the 844 number to ensure their machines were back up. The person at the 844 number said "oh we don't have any way to get ahold of them- you'll just have to go down there." Based on their extensive advertising, I thought I'd give them a shot for a part I needed. Maybe there are some good prices here, but when I went to get a part for my Toyota, they wanted more for the used part than I found for a brand new part online. The part was $135 from the dealer, LKQ wanted $105 for the used part, but I found a brand new OEM part online for $65 with free shipping. This might have been a fluke, BUT a used part from a junkyard should be no more than 50% of the dealer price. I also found that their website won't search some car models properly, so you'll wind up finding parts that the site SAYS will fit your car, but when you dig deeper, they won't, so before ordering a part from them, check it on the phone by your VIN number. read more
