It's high time that I updated this review. My jaw hit the floor when, about a month ago, a last-minute ingredient deficit sent me scrambling to my formerly crappy neighborhood store--only to be greeted by...fresh flowers? A salad bar?! Beautiful PRODUCE?? A DELI?!?!?!?!?! A SEAFOOD SECTION???????!!!!!!! Pick 'n' Save went and got itself a makeover. The layout is much, much better and will continue to improve, with a small area of dining tables coming soon. No more grey broccoli, sold-out tomatoes, or rotten squash. Admittedly, the "ethnic section" still leaves a lot to be desired, and it's still a bit pricier overall than Woodman's. But it IS right around the corner. I'll be stopping by much more often. read more

This store STILL continues with lousy service and lack of check out people. Not to mention it's overpriced greatly. I absolutely hate coming to the store when I forget to get something at Woodmans. Again today, I left my items on an empty checkout line because I wasn't gonna wait half an hour. read more

After work ( around 8:15pm) I went to purchase some items that were on sale. The shelf tags were still up that's why I selected those particular items. When I got to the checkout they came up at regular price. I asked the Checkout Vulture why they came up wrong. After being gone for three time longer than a price check, another employee came and told me they weren't on special anymore. I went to where they were and they had removed the shelf tags. I guess the sale ended just as I checked out. This isn't the first time things like this have happened to me there. There should be a NO STAR option. read more

For the love of God, please do SOMETHING about your stupid, worthless bags. EVERY SINGLE TIME I shop there, either when I'm putting my stuff in my car or when I'm bringing my stuff in from the car when I get home...EVERY SINGLE TIME...at least one bag just completely gives out and I lose a jar of pickles, or two jars of pizza sauce...that was today. I guess God didn't want me to eat pizza. But that's it...im done shopping there regardless of convenience. I'll go to woodmans, 20 min away, because they are cheaper, and less aggravating. More staff needed. There's boxes and store items all over the isles. This was a midday, middle of the week rare trip. The messiest grocery store I've ever been in. There was only one full service checkout available. I had $150 in groceries. Wasn't about to check/bag myself. Also - they will charge you .75 for cash back. Items aren't stocked where you would expect them to be. I now remember why I would rather shop at Kwik Trip than Ick No Save. Better be a Roundys member too or it'll cost you a bundle. read more

Everything is overpriced and hardly ever stocked but the store is clean and the workers are friendly for the most part.

My last time at this store. No hand baskets for convenient shopping and management doesn't want to spend the money for new ones. Also I am tired of getting pushed to self check out. I don't like doing it myself, and shouldn't I be getting paid for doing the stores work. I try to buy local, the local stores usually need support, but they have lost my support. read more

I only like going here because it's only a mile away otherwise I wouldn't go. Every time I do there always out of stock on veg, fruits and meat which I need. Oh I order a slice meat at the deli and old lady arguing with me cuz I want my roast beef thin. Really!!! Don't argue with a customer!!! read more

Besides not being stocked well most of the time, 2 days in a row, I went in to get groceries and there were no carts. I should not have to go back out into the parking lot and get a cart. Thursday, the manager on duty was standing by self checkout with 2 other employees laughing and joking. There was a girl trying to park an electric cart, said she was working on the carts and then giggled. I wish Deforest would actively persue getting another grocery chain in town. I would drop Pick n Save in a heartbeat. read more

A modern shopping experience (back in the 80s) I paid a visit to the DeForest Pick n Save earlier today and it was exactly as I remembered it when I lived in DeFo 15 years ago, as in, it hasn't changed one bit. This is a store that could really use a face lift. The industrial grade linoleum, the high metal ceilings, the harsh florescent lighting give the place that institutional warehouse vibe that just screams 1980. It wasn't a real productive shopping trip. The produce quality was not very good. The celery looked past its prime (think pale green with browning tips). The same could be said of the salad greens. There was little in the way of organic produce, but I did like the country of origin signs on the produce. (The poor quality of the produce surprised me since both Pick n Save and Copps are owned by Roundy's and the produce quality at Copps in generally pretty decent.) The selection in the deli counter was limited and the meat department was hit or miss. (I did find some decent looking beef tenderloin, but they did not carry the Smart Chicken brand that prefer) The international food section consisted of a third of a row of taco kits, salsa and soy sauce. The selection of dry goods followed the theme of limited selection with prices 15% to 25% higher than Woodmans. I ended up leaving and picking up the items I needed at the local Piggly Wiggly that looked downright palatial in comparison to this Pick n Save. Pic n Save in De Forest is better called "picked". There is no day of the week when the shelves or produce are stocked. For an area with such a high surrounding population, this store should be stepping up, modernizing and expanding, but instead it seems to revel in underserving, like a rental property where the owner just wants to squeeze money out of the renter without putting anything into the property. Drive on - do not shop there unless it's absolutely necessary. read more

I wish we had a store in deforest that would give pick and save some competition. They are the worst not only in selection, price, and presentation- but you would have to really work at staffing as poorly as they do. Typically one check out line open and it's never enough. If you ask someone for help be prepared to have them respond as if you are bothering them...Do yourself a favor and keep driving to metro market in Sun Prairie! read more

Horrible store, produce is usually starting to rot on the shelf and is still for sale, not fresh at all. Store layout is horrendous and item placement makes no sense. If you plan on coming to De Forest and need to pick something on the way, shop somewhere else. Some of the cashiers would rather talk to their coworkers then be helpful. Needs a lot of help! If I need somethinf quick, I'll stop at Family Dollar or QT! read more

I'm so excited about the remodelling here! They have a SALAD BAR!!!! Oh goodness! I just helped myself to a very nice salad made by yours truly! I was so hungry that I totally didn't capture a photo! It's looking so nice and more modern in here!! I'm so excited! It's about time our small-towners have a fancy grocery store! They are still moving things around so there isn't much that's new as far as dry foods go. Their produce section looks a lot more appealing! If you want to be surrounded by no one wearing a mask--head on over to DeForest Pick n Save. The employees are all wearing masks but the shoppers seem to have an aversion to the simple courtesy of wearing a mask. The store is too crowded making it impossible to maintain a 6 ft distance. No one is cleaning the carts. It's probably the community but I'm not shopping there again until there is a vaccine or Darwin clears out the idiots that won't wear a mask. read more

I am a regular shopper at this location. Really excited with the new transition of this grocery store. Salad bar, sushi, self check out and the self serve hot food. Can it get any better than it is??! It's starting to look real good, the florals, the freshness, cleanness and the environment is well approaching. I will continue to shop here always. read more

If you have celiac or a gluten sensitivity- DO NOT go to this store. They never restock their Gluten free food. I have been there 3 times in the last month and they still have not re-ordered or re-stocked any of the gluten free bread. Obviously someone is eating it besides me, because the one time they restocked it, it was all gone within days. read more

I want this grocery store to succeed. BUT ... The prices are 10-25% higher (sometimes more) than Woodman's in Sun Prairie, the produce leaves much to be desired in terms of quality and the check-out lines are ridiculously long if you visit between 4-6 p.m. It's understandably a busy time of day for people to pop into the grocery store, but it seems as though this Pick 'n Save refuses to adjust its staffing needs appropriately. Like another reviewer pointed out, very basic produce (basically, anything green) is often wilty, slimey and/or brown. I pointed this out to a produce worker once and asked if they had anything more fresh and he went to the back for better lettuce ... which was only slightly better than what was out. The prices, however, are my biggest beef. For example, an avocado at Woodman's is $.69-.79 each, whereas at Pick 'n Save, they are $1.69-1.79 each. Now and then they run a sale: 2 for $3. Whoa! The savings! HA. A 96 oz. bottle of Welch's grape juice costs $6.19 at Pick 'n Save; at Woodman's the same bottle costs about $3.59. A container of heavy whipping cream is double the cost of the same size whipping cream at Woodman's. A Palermo's Thin Crust pizza is $6-7 at Pick 'n Save; 2 for $10 at Woodman's (although they have been running an occasional sale at PNS with BOGO on the Palermo's, making them an excellent deal). Small carving pumpkins: $3.99 at Pick 'n Save, HUGE-ASS carving pumpkins at Woodman's were $3.49. And on and on. If you're on a grocery budget, Pick 'n Save makes saving money and getting good buys a major battle of the wits with its customers. You've got the Fresh Perks card, some sort of e-coupon option, etc. ... hey, how about you just lower your frickin' prices?? Despite being 5 minutes from my house, I plan my grocery shopping so that I only have to shop there in a pinch. Otherwise, I load up at Woodman's. read more
