Oh Dear! Avoid at all costs.
We made the mistake of eating here on the May Bank Holiday Monday. Despite asking others for their opinion on this restaurant and being told it "would have a great atmosphere" it was very far from it.
We personally went into book during the daytime and felt the staff were friendly and welcoming. On returning that evening it was made obvious this was a special birthday meal out for my friend - her 50th no less. There was no big welcome but the first alarm bells began to ring when we attempted to order our drinks. We were told they did not have any rum available either dark or white. Now since my friend doesn't drink wine and it was HER birthday this posed a bit of a problem. I attempted to press the waiter to obtain some locally, he disappeared only to come back and say he couldn't get any. Not being locals we didn't realise there was a convenience store less than 2 mins walk away (which by the way WAS open and sold no less than 4 types of dark rum. How do I know this? I noticed the store after we left the restaurant and took the time to go in and check, I was flabbergasted that the waiter/manager didn't bother to spend 5 mins getting a bottle of a dark rum which should have been readily available in their restaurant anyhow). What appeared to be the manager came over and spoke to my friend and convinced her to drink Sambuca. Not her first choice I can assure you.
We then went on to wait some time for the wine, we ordered olives and a ice bucket (which should have arrived as a matter of course) but the waiter had to be reminded THREE times.
Starters were OK no complaints.
Mains 2 of these were good. My pasta was too al dente and the tomato based sauce appeared to be passata only and very bitter. I did not send the food back as I did not want to spoil the mood further. The last of the 4 main meals was mediocre at best with my friend stating "I could cook this at home".
The ambiance ?? There wasn't any. The music veered from dreary Opera (one friend commenting that it was llike being at a funeral), and at one point a cheap copy group posing as Santana. The staff appeared to ignore us at all costs, there was no offer of further drinks or "how is the food" or "would you like anything else" instead they busied themselves preparing tables for the next day - WHY?. The restaurant wasn't busy by a long shot but no one seemed to care about us as customers . If they had we would have spent a lot more money on drinks. One bottle of wine between 3 adults on a big celebration meal for 2.5 hours is nothing.
We were told the kitchen took last orders at 9pm, however we were amazed to see the kitchen light go off at exactly 9pm and the chef picked up his bag and walked out of the restaurant. Awful.
We finally received our sweets (again nothing complicated - sorbets) again no asking "would you like coffee'? Yes we would have done so yet again they missed an opportunity to earn more money from us.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone as they obviously have no idea of the concept of Customer Service. The biggest feel good factor came from a table next to us as we walked in where a family wished my friend a Happy Birthday. read more
