Sigal's estate gave his collection away and the Carolina Music Museum was able to take the whole collection of over 700 instruments. Only about a quarter of the instruments are displayed because of lack of space. The museum focuses on the music and technology from 1775 to present day. Some of the museum is interactive but you cannot touch most of the antiques. The oldest Steinway is in the museum; harpsichords and so many pianos. The museum is on two levels and you can take the stairs or an elevator. At the moment, a special exhibit, Sound of America is taking up space on the first floor. I enjoyed learning some history through music. I liked that the museum did not focus on any specific type of musical genre but embraced them all from Blues to Jazz to Musicals to Rock to Rap to Classical to Gospel to Swing to Exotica. It was like going back in time seeing the eight track player that I used to listen to at my grandmother's place. It brought back great memories. Then seeing the walkman. I enjoyed seeing the radios and the cassette tapes I used to record music on from the radio. How things have changed. This museum is a gem and I've not seen anything like it before. I will be back to spend more time exploring.

Should have been a no-brainer purchase. As I walked in a young guy at the register kind of mumbled (ingenuously) "May I help you?" Told him what I was looking for and he just kind of waved me off in the direction of where cleaning products are. It took me a minute or so to find the products I was looking for with his pathetic directions, and the fact that the entire wall of products was trashed, laying around, wrong area, total dump!! But I did finally find the product I was looking for, despite the worthless kid at the counter. I haven't been to any Guitar Centers in a while so I decided to walk around and look at guitars and amps. I recall that the Guitar Centers and Musicians Friend in Colorado were well-lit, clean, and had great selections. This store is an absolute drab, depressing, dirty, dusty dump!!! I saw very few new products but perhaps all the new stuff was as dirty and trashed as the piles of junky-looking amps, etc. I wouldn't ever consider buying anything at this store. It looks like the worst kind of pawn shop experience you may have ever seen. So I went to check out with my cleaning products because I needed them. What a freaking zoo that is! The counter/checkout guy who 'greeted' me at the beginning was doing trade in/sell estimates using his register area as a work bench. The other 'gent' at the second register was seemingly just BS'ing, copying codes from odd products on his phone, complaining incessantly that the phone kept ringing. All this time really strange characters were walking in and dropping off items with absolutely no consideration of who was in line first or last. Glancing at the absolute garbage that people were trading in I had to wonder how much of this stuff was stolen or pulled out of a dumpster. Seriously. As the guy in front of me said as he was trying to trade in a small (toy?) guitar, "I don't care what you give me, I just need money now." Honestly, I had to look around to see if I was in some 'druggy' neighborhood. Anyways, after about 15 minutes of waiting to check out I was finally taken care of. Bottom line: I don't know what happened to Guitar Center but I'll stick to Sweetwater or other companies that care. The Greenville Guitar center is depressing, dirty, and I would NEVER recommend them.
