Music shops tend to be very intimidating to someone like me because the staff don't take you seriously if you don't speak their lingo. I must admit that we walked in feeling like this was going to be just another bad experience like we've had at other well known guitar stores in Greenville, where you can't find anything and nobody seems interested in helping you. Imagine our surprise when my husband and I walked into Eastside Guitars and Drums and were immediately greeted by the warm and friendly, Bobby Bass. He took the time to carefully listen and immediately showed us a couple of his favorite guitars that met the parameters of what I was looking for. You know how there's that "sweet spot" between being ignored or being stalked by a salesperson? Bobby knows that spot. He's very intuitive and at the ready to help you, while at the same time giving you all the space and time you need to enjoy the hunt alone. We went into this store to see if they worked on guitars (yes, they have a professional luthier at the ready) and to see what they carried as far as guitars and drums since I like to play both. The store was squeaky clean, set up in a way that felt like a candy shop for musicians, and Bobby's helpful and friendly attentiveness to us made me want to do more than have a guitar repaired. There's a level of trust and confidence here that made us want to purchase new. And so, we did! I found a guitar that I absolutely love, and once that happened, I was ready to upgrade my amp as well. I've never felt less pressured to buy something and had someone be as genuinely interested in the craft and in helping others to find the instrument that will bring them personal joy. I'm looking forward to checking out their snares the next time I go in. In the meantime, I'm loving this new baby! There's a reason these guys have been here a long time. If you are interested in music and you haven't visited yet, you owe it to yourself to check out Eastside Guitar and Drum.

After Guitar center had our equipment shipped from Florida, we went to the store to pick it up…read more But... The guys from FL didn't include a transformer with it (it was used gear, figures...). So the guys (Kevin from ops) scoured the store for a little while, and they found us one in their stock. They gave it to us, free of charge. And, we got to test the new piece with our gear in their sound sales room once again. Very helpful people. Very professional service. Quick shipping. Great price on our new piece. This piece has added another layer of depth to our program--thanks Guitar Center, thanks Zach, Kevin and Greg. Thank you all for making it a smooth process. Does this amp go to 11 (or 6 stars)?

Yesterday I went to Guitar Center Greenville for the purpose of buying some guitar cleaning gear,…read moreand considering selling some gear (Ramirez classical and two amps). Should have been a no-brainer purchase. As I walked in a young guy at the register kind of mumbled (ingenuously) "May I help you?" Told him what I was looking for and he just kind of waved me off in the direction of where cleaning products are. It took me a minute or so to find the products I was looking for with his pathetic directions, and the fact that the entire wall of products was trashed, laying around, wrong area, total dump!! But I did finally find the product I was looking for, despite the worthless kid at the counter. I haven't been to any Guitar Centers in a while so I decided to walk around and look at guitars and amps. I recall that the Guitar Centers and Musicians Friend in Colorado were well-lit, clean, and had great selections. This store is an absolute drab, depressing, dirty, dusty dump!!! I saw very few new products but perhaps all the new stuff was as dirty and trashed as the piles of junky-looking amps, etc. I wouldn't ever consider buying anything at this store. It looks like the worst kind of pawn shop experience you may have ever seen. So I went to check out with my cleaning products because I needed them. What a freaking zoo that is! The counter/checkout guy who 'greeted' me at the beginning was doing trade in/sell estimates using his register area as a work bench. The other 'gent' at the second register was seemingly just BS'ing, copying codes from odd products on his phone, complaining incessantly that the phone kept ringing. All this time really strange characters were walking in and dropping off items with absolutely no consideration of who was in line first or last. Glancing at the absolute garbage that people were trading in I had to wonder how much of this stuff was stolen or pulled out of a dumpster. Seriously. As the guy in front of me said as he was trying to trade in a small (toy?) guitar, "I don't care what you give me, I just need money now." Honestly, I had to look around to see if I was in some 'druggy' neighborhood. Anyways, after about 15 minutes of waiting to check out I was finally taken care of. Bottom line: I don't know what happened to Guitar Center but I'll stick to Sweetwater or other companies that care. The Greenville Guitar center is depressing, dirty, and I would NEVER recommend them.

Sigal's estate gave his collection away and the Carolina Music Museum was able to take the whole collection of over 700 instruments. Only about a quarter of the instruments are displayed because of lack of space. The museum focuses on the music and technology from 1775 to present day. Some of the museum is interactive but you cannot touch most of the antiques. The oldest Steinway is in the museum; harpsichords and so many pianos. The museum is on two levels and you can take the stairs or an elevator. At the moment, a special exhibit, Sound of America is taking up space on the first floor. I enjoyed learning some history through music. I liked that the museum did not focus on any specific type of musical genre but embraced them all from Blues to Jazz to Musicals to Rock to Rap to Classical to Gospel to Swing to Exotica. It was like going back in time seeing the eight track player that I used to listen to at my grandmother's place. It brought back great memories. Then seeing the walkman. I enjoyed seeing the radios and the cassette tapes I used to record music on from the radio. How things have changed. This museum is a gem and I've not seen anything like it before. I will be back to spend more time exploring.

Of the four piano stores I visited, I felt Robert Jones Pianos & Organs was definitely the best! Robert personally helped us to choose our piano, answering our questions, and giving us fair and honest information on all brands and models. He is a true professional -- in every way. The showroom was large, with all brands and styles to choose from; both new pianos and used. Robert is very talented, and plays superbly. It was a wonderful experience just to hear him play the pianos we were looking at. Not all pianos sound alike -- and we were able to listen as an audience, to evaluate the various brands and models. Robert Jones is not high pressure, just the opposite -- a nice guy, who wants you to be happy with whatever choice you make. After checking out pianos elsewhere, we came back to Robert Jones to make our purchase -- and he matched the price. He gave us a free piano bench -- and fitted it with legs to match the piano's legs! Above and beyond what anyone would expect! The delivery was free, (although almost an hour from his shop) prompt, efficient, and truly professional as well: Robert personally arrived along with the piano mover, Andrew, they set it quickly, to our satisfaction, without incident -- and at my request, he gave us a little performance! If only I could play as well as he does...... I can think of nothing more Robert could have done -- he knows his business, and certainly made us happy. If I purchase again, or decide to purchase an organ I'll be back to visit Robert. I would and will certainly recommend him! (If there were 6 stars, he would receive it!)
