The former owner Albi sold me a turntable He said he goes through all the equipment with a fine tooth comb. When I took it in a few months later because of a speed issue he had sold the the business off. When the new owner went to repair it he said it was corroded and nasty inside so one of them was lying. The new owner fixed the speed issue, but that didn't last long. The belt he replaced was not a genuine part. He also upgrading the feet on my turntable, which actually was not as good as the genuine feet that was on it. I'm new to collecting vinyl and buying vintage equipment. I just think I've been taking advantage of by both of these guys and I highly do not recommend! read more

What a treat to have a space like this in Greenville. You can walk in off the street on any given day and be treated with a large selection of vintage speakers, receivers and turntables. All of them look fantastic and you can take them home and hook them up that day. No hassle with repair shops, no trouble with cleaning them up. Just pay a reasonable price, take them home and enjoy. After doing some research for a second vintage receiver and a nice matching set of speakers I ended up driving from Fort Worth, TX to Greenville, SC to "Cherry Vintage Audio" and got to meet and talk\learn about some options from Albie the owner. I had been looking online for about 6 months and saw that Albie had some great audio gear and better yet, had some great reviews from happy customers. So when I went to visit friends in GA and NC for thanksgiving, I made a stop in Greenville SC and spend about 3 hours with Albie who is a great guy and knows his stuff about audio. I picked up a Sansui G-7700 Receiver with a beautiful set of matched Augustus custom made speakers. Albie is a very easy going guy, no pressure, lots of time to spend with the customer and very helpful with questions and requests to check out his inventory of great equipment and to have time to sit and have a good listening experience to determine what options tickle your ears. I got back home and hooked up the Sansui / Augustus combination to my multiple tape decks and I'm really pleased by the wonderful listening experience and the great quality of sound these two new additions are producing and of course that 80's receiver and beautifully hand crafted custom speakers offer a great ascetic and nostalgic vintage look and feel to top it off! read more

What an asset to our community. After finding the store online, enjoying the awesome descriptions and history lessons about all the different equipment, I had to go. I must say the experience was as good as I'd hoped! I met Albie, whose passion for and knowledge of not only the speakers and receivers but the people and companies who made them great was very impressive. He was patient and helpful, explaining everything as I listened to probably 10 sets of speakers. Hearing the differences of all the difference brands and speaker designs was super helpful. I was able to figure out what I liked best and even get an idea of why based on Albie's help. This shop is incredible and Albie is a goldmine of great information about Vintage stereos! If you like great sounding music, do yourself a favor and visit Cherry Vintage Audio. I wanted to listen to my records again after 30 years and saw an ad for my first stereo receiver -- the Technics SA-201 -- that I purchased when I was 15 years old (it exhausted six months of savings from my paper route). I did not realize the emotional connection that I would still have to this piece of Hi-Fi equipment because none of my future receivers would ever sound as good. As we moved to CD's, MP3's, and streaming, the quality got worse and worse, the sound quality was lost forever. Or so I thought... Then I see an ad for my old receiver and decide to visit Cherry Vintage Audio. I was blown away by his shop. Everything in great working order, very reasonably priced, and with little cards with a minor history lesson for each item. I felt like I was in a time machine buying my receiver again for the first time. I met the owner, Albie, who said that I could buy the same receiver at 35 Watts per channel that I owned when I was 15 or I could, for a few dollars more, upgrade to "the Beast", the Technics SA-616 at 100 Watts Per Channel. So I purchased "the Beast". Wow! What sound! Just like my Dad did when I was 15, my wife comes in all the time and tells me to "turn it down." All my eighties favorites: Joy Division, New Order, the Cure, the Cars, as well as my Jazz records with Dave Brubeck now sound fantastic, just like they did back in the early '80s. What I learned from Albie is that the best years of HiFi's were from 1979 (when I bought my first receiver) to 1982. This is why subsequent receivers never sounded as good and left me searching for that great sound. I purchased a turntable as well and brought it home and it would not power up. I brought it back to Albie, he fiddled with a few things, got it working again. But when I brought it home for a second time, it would not power up. Maybe it did not like my house. No problem. Albie let me exchange it for another turntable. On to speakers. Albie let me listen to every pair of speakers in his store until I found the ones I liked, four of the Bose 4001 speakers we paired together. What I learned is that speaker placement is crucial to obtaining quality sound. It took a while to find the optimum placement to get that perfect sound. Vintage stereos are old and somewhat temperamental but the sound they create cannot be reproduced by today's modern technology. I have been a lifelong music fan. Recently decided to get back into vinyl. I went to see Albie's shop and was blown away. Really loved the vintage equipment.
