My husband and I were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. We initially made reservations to eat at Canto Del Mar but while at our stay at the Marquis we noticed from the balcony that there were private dinners held in front of the beach. We went to the concierge to inquire about it. We were told that the private dinner would be $375 which was about $85 more than what we would've paid at Canto Del Mar. Canto Del Mar cost $145 per person. We decided since it was our last night we'd prefer the private dinner on the beach. The hotel was able to accommodate the last minute change at for that we are thankful. There is a cancellation fee if done less that 24 hours notice. There are 2 preparedmenus to select from my husband and I each chose different ones so naturally we can taste each others and I will have to see he did pick the better menu. Food was delicious and well curated. Each meal was brought out in a timely manner. Everything was amazing. We also have to thank our servers for the night Arturo & Maricruz for being very attentive.

But five minutes after eating the escargot my husband felt ill and dashed to the bano and up they came. Unfortunately he had already ordered his entree (lamb) and when it arrived he found he couldn't eat it. In the meantime I had skipped right to dessert: the tarte tatin. It was disappointing, like overly sweet applesauce on a stale cookie. Overall I cannot recommend Bon Vivant unless you just want a piece of bread and some very nice wine.

The bread service was amazing (don't skip it), and the potato amuse-bouche was such a thoughtful and delicious way to start the meal. I had the octopus, which was cooked perfectly -- tender with a great char -- but honestly, the bone marrow carpaccio that accompanied it was the star of the plate. It added so much richness and depth of flavor that we found ourselves wishing there had been even more of it. My wife ordered the totoaba, and it was excellent. The fish was delicate and perfectly prepared, but the caper sauce absolutely made the dish -- bright, balanced, and packed with flavor. Service throughout the evening was polished, attentive, and warm without being overbearing. To top it off, they surprised my wife with a special birthday presentation featuring a fruit sorbet, which was such a classy and thoughtful touch. It really elevated the entire experience.
