This was my first year going to Photoville. I was very impressed. Artists posted their photos in shipping containers. My friend, Lizzy, and I were sweating bullets. It had to be close to 90 degrees that day. It wasn't ideal to be inside those containers. We walked around Time Out Market and I was salivating at all the yummy foods. I have to go back there for lunch or dinner.

Heading down to Brooklyn Bridge Park? Why not have some culture and art in your life. Through June, usually through Fri - Sunday Photoville is at Pier 3. Read about Photoville and wanted to check it out at Pier 3. It's a outdoor Photography art show with clinics on photography and art. Vendors also display photography equipment and new gadgets. Loved the new Polaroid table they had there. It's a great new way to display photography. Instead of having art galleries, you have containers and each container displays ones photography show. It's a neat and interesting new way to display art in the summer season. It kind of reminded me of Dekalb market with their containers. There is a mini dog park as well and a great art installation of flowers made out of lil plastic cameras. To keep one's artistic juices flowing there is also a great outdoor shaded beer garden with food trucks which rotate through the weekend. On the day i visited they had Brooklyn Brewery beer for $5 and Rickshaw Dumplings, Frites and Meats, Valduccis Pizza, and Eat Morris Truck. It's a great way to spend a summer afternoon and enjoy the art of photography.

This is incredible. I love supporting artists and this is the perfect way to do it. The atmosphere is amazing, the photography was top notch, just a great experience. I advise to come around 6, you can see the art and a beautiful sunset on the city. 10/10 recommend for date night, a stroll by yourself or bring friends. 5/5

Photoville is the organization that puts up the large print outs of photography all over Brooklyn Bridge Park. I always take time out to admire their selections and the various perspectives and styles they showcase. They put on a great photography pop up gallery and fair Sept 10-20 this year, which was chock full of great photographers, highlighting unique perspectives, human rights issues, cultures, and history. There were super fun booths by Instagram and Nat Geo, Getty and the NY Times, and awesome talks and presentations. In addition, they somehow wrangled in a mini food court with a pop up beer garden overlooking lower Manhattan. On top of it all, its free, well, there's a $3 suggested donation. But getting exposure to some amazing artists and their work was totally worth it.

I was kind of dissapppinted with Photoville this year. It was relocated from pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park to pier 3 underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. It was smushed into a much smaller location. Some containers were raised and people walked up onto riders to see into them. The smaller space made it more crowded and harder to wander. The worst part to me was that the whole time I felt so bored. It seemed like the same person picked out all the art. In my opinion, the photographs seemed to appeal to the same audience making the experience limiting. This year there was a 'beer garden'. This was a piece of grass where beer was sold and people sat on soggy grass. I can bring my own beer and do this outside of the fenced 'beer garden'. No one made an effort to develop an atmosphere in this section. I tried to stay but it was honestly just not fun and I couldn't force it.

What a great event! I loved the setting and all the eye-opening exhibits. The exhibits showed a wide variety from fashion in New York to poverty in the poorest countries. I love the Brooklyn bridge backdrop. There is a suggested donation at the door. I could have spent hours there but unfortunately they close at 10pm. They have a beer garden and food as well. Sadly we were not able to try it as they closed. Definitely try to go earlier as it is an all day event.

My friend had informed me about this photo exhibition so we came together. Really taking lots of space with photos of many topics. The section impressed me the most was the scenes taking inside the prison, as I would consider prison life being very remote from our own. They were as normal and as real as ours! Towards the end, you would also able to take a selfie and upload onto Instagram. This exhibition is free of charge, however it will only be around for ten days.

This year Photoville was at Pier 5 not 3 and thank gosh, unlike in the past, in September and not during some of the hottest days of summer. As always the photography was a mixed bunch. My faves this year included some extraordinary war photography of the Liberian Civil War. Great war photography chronicles history and presents truths that are raw, often ugly..taken by courageous men and women who sometimes themselves have fallen as they strove to document the grimness of wars. Here were photos of children with dead eyes and live guns, of sandals abandoned in pools of blood the consistency of red tar you wonder how many bled to produce such thick puddles and with a pang wish the owners of those sandals died quickly or else escaped harm. There was a photo of a child withan arm torn by shrapnel, the hand barely attached to bones stripped of its flesh; you could close your eyes and still feel the suffering and pain emanating from that image. Interrogations was another exhibit that showed men and women caught and frozen with fear and helplessness; an explanation says the photos were recreations; you hope so as your mind catches the horror of seeing photo of the man with the gun held to his head. The next time you see a shooting star, wish again for peace on earth. On a lighter note there was the Great Outdoors, scenes of what else, the great outdoors! Keep on Dreaming presented the desires and dreams of 23 Dutch photographers. The venue doesn't always do the photography justice, I agree with another Yelper, because sometimes you get too much shadow, sometimes too much light while you try to look at the photos. But it was an attempt to present a diverse range of photos in a outdoor venue that was quite accessible. Sharon C didn't realize that they have ramps for the disabled, and while I myself thought it was silly to have books in containers and then guards guarding books, I liked the originality of the whole idea. Dumbo and Brooklyn Bridge park were industrial areas once, and I think the containers pay homage to that and large number of containers allows less known photographers to display their work. There was even a container with envelopes inviting the public to submit their own photos for a rotating exhibit. With so many containers, you will surely find an exhibit that interests you. And of course, there are the food trucks in the beer garden area to save you should you get hungry after viewing. For the $3 suggested donation, it was well worth it for anyone with any interest in photography

Since this is a four day music festival I took advantage of all events occurring on each day/evening including the Bedford avenue block party (which was freel), the collabs between upcoming shows like TNT's Claws, Tidal, Wild honey Pie's Beehive event as well as the main stage with performers during the weekend. There were tons of indie bands performing throughout Bushwick, Williamsburg and Greenpoint which made traveling to each venue pretty easy. The headlining concerts at McCarren Park was surprisingly spacious, with different variety of food trucks, vendors promoting new or unknown Apps, while giving away free swag to entice new member with a month's or a few months of free membership; as well as cityMD providing concert goers with first aid needs and announcing a contest for a pair of panorama tickets (I did not win lol). My PIC and I had a wonderful time attending all the different venues, and listening to all the great artists who for the first time, I got a chance to hear up-close and personal. Look forward to next years festival!

This year: The Dirty Projectors and Miguel, so I couldn't be more excited. The festival is four days long with a block party on the weekend. In addition to the acts, the badge gets you access to parties with other badgeholders: both lovers of music and tech. It makes for an interesting crowd, some people only have tech badges while other have music and some have both. It offers a great exchange of ideas and better yet libations. There is also a cute little block party running down Bedford Ave with performances and vendors cheerfully welcoming summer. As for the headlining concert, that takes place is McCarren Park in a parking lot by the tennis courts. It's a great location. Large enough to be comfortable, but small enough to have great acoustics and to be able to see the performer from any place there.

Some pros are; the event is for charity, environmentally caring, there is a good vibe there, great view by the water, not too crowded, and you sometimes see discounted tickets. I found out about the event through Yelp (yay!) and bought tickets for 8 tastings and 4 beverages. The space was chock full of restaurants selling their best, sponsors hawking their products, and hungry hungry Brooklynites. I arrived around 2 pm and stayed just until it started raining. Lucky for me, I was able to use all my coupons in time! Staff were fantastic overall, with big smiles and enthusiastic attitudes. Now, to the eats: Brooklyn Cupcake - fantastic generous ladies who are passing out the mini chocolate, french toast, red velvet, and vanilla cupcakes like they're going out of style. Brooklyn Floss - root beer cotton candy, a lovely lady spinning the sweets, and lots of happy people in the "smile spot" as they are mystified by their growing cloud of sugar. The Brooklyn Star - winner of the longest line, The Brooklyn Star passed out cheddar cheese waffles with fried chicken, cabbage slaw, and mashed potatoes. Tasty, creative, and pretty. Dirck the Norseman passed out beef brisket and pulled pork with soft buns. Oh so meaty, rich goodness, with a good portion size. Pies and Thighs offered their fried chicken on a biscuit with hot sauce and sweet creamy mayo, which while tiny, is still rich enough to clog your arteries. Maison Premiere was giving out cocktails and oysters on the half shell for a ticket - a nice clean and crisp alternative to the nearby bar fare. Phin & Phebes had six ice cream flavors to sample - or you could get three for a ticket! The ginger cookie and Vietnamese coffee were incredible. Rosamunde Sausage Grill had the second longest line. The Andouille was really solid and they had really fun condiments like wasabi and spicy mayos and cheese sauces Teddy's Bar and Grille had AMAZING beignets. Two Door Tavern had salsa rubbed fried chicken wings - creative, well executed, and delish. Yelp offered a fun gift basket and the usual fun knick knacks- I hope I win! There are probably more that I can't remember. BUT it was such a fun day with very cool people. I reserve a star however - my ticket came with four drink tickets. I can't drink alcohol. So I got lots and lots of free sodas, but definitely not enough to justify the cost of the tickets. I am mollified in that my purchase has made the dream of building the town hall closer, buuuuut may buy one off tickets next year for the food and not drinks.
